The AC in my 1988 S10 pickup wasn't blowing very cold. I expected I would need a new compressor. Chuck checked it out and found the Schrader valve had a very slight leak. So he replaced it and added freon. I was done in 30 minutes with a VERY reasonable charge. Chuck is EXTREMELY honest and won't sell you something you don't need, like so many other places. I went to some of the chain auto repair stores and the first words out of their mouths was oh that's going to need a new compressor with an average price tag of 500 plus dollars, they didn't even check anything but just said what it would cost. Then I remembered Chuck's Auto Air in Hollywood. Chuck has been there since the 80's and there is a good reason he's been there this long. 1. He's honest and 2. He can fix an A/C and does it pretty quickly. Chuck asked me what was going on, then checked one little switch under the hood. In under 2 minutes he found the problem in under a half hour I was on the road freezing cold again. Let's just say a rebuilt compressor costs about 250 without labor. So why on earth would you go to those chain operations? I've been to Chuck's before and now I'm telling everyone. Sorry Chuck you might be a little tired after everyone reads this. Yeah I know the shop is not the prettiest and it's not all shiny and glitzy, but Chuck knows A/C so why are you riding around sweating? Oh yeah you went to the overpriced place and they scared you with the cost. Go see Chuck tell him I sent you and he'll probably say Who? LOL........ DO NOT GO! Extremely rude and has no idea what he's talking about. I went in because my AC wasn't working and he checked it out and told me my compressor and freon were both good. He checked to see if it was the relay, he switched it out and it seemed to work. He told me it was $25 and that I also "needed" some $75 service. Me trusting him I did the whole thing and it was $100. As soon as I leave the shop to go home within 2 minutes, I make a U-turn back and tell him the the AC light is blinking and that the AC isn't working. Here comes the BS, he says that I need a compressor... If my compressor and freon are good how and why do I need to fix that? He refused to return my money and was not helpful at all. It should've been handled professionally and/or I should've left with my AC working. My AC still does not work, I wasted $100 and didn't get anything but an attitude. read more

I've been going to Chuck's since 1996. A more honest mechanic you WILL never find. I've gone a few times, he has checked out my ac and did a quick modification and didn't even charge me. The guy is quick in analyzing the problem, guess all those years of experience have paid off tremendously. I started going to Chucks at least 10 years ago. I had gone to a dealer and then another mechanic who both misdiagnosed my problem as needing a compressor which would have cost me about $800. A friend told me about this place and I went in and Chuck looked at it and fiddled around for minutes and replaced a pressure switch. He said $30 and I drove out very happy. I kept that car about 2 years and never had a problem. I will never go to any one else for my a./c. He just repaired another one for me and I know I saved time and money. Could be coincidence, you decide.... Took car to his shop because AC wasn't working. He said it could be the compressor, or if I'm lucky, it might just be a relay. He checked relay out, and wow he was right! He replaced it and the ac worked. Here's where the I believe he pulled a fast one .. He went on to say that it doesn't appear to be cooling enough, probably low on freon. He did this by just holding the pipe which I guess the freon flows .... he didn't even hook up gauge. He said I should fill it up, and I said ok, BECAUSE I THOUGHT HE SEEMED TO BE HONEST. After, finishing charging my system, he said I was about 1/2 # low. Awesome!, left with AC running, paid $25 for relay and $75 for recharge. Next day, bam! AC stopped. Brought it back to their shop. Probed relay with device and said relay ok, and said, compressor needs to be replaced. Fortunately, I remember reading post, Laz 7/2015, and thought hmmm! ... could this be coincidence? Decided to bring to another shop. They said system was about 1/2 # low (Chuck said he had to put 1/2 #, or did he really take it out), compressor good, but may be leak. They ran system with dye but couldn't detect anything. Said it's possible I may have a slow leak maybe coming from behind dash from the evaporator, but only time will tell, ... if and when my AC stops again. Been almost 7 months since, AC still good. One thing for sure, it wasn't the compressor. Coincidence? hmmm! read more

My 1998 car's AC quit cooling, so prior to Christmas I had a day off and intended to get up early that day and go take my car in for servicing. On December 11, 2012, I slept in and shuddered at the thought of having to leave my car all day for servicing. I took the car to Chuck's Auto Air, and get this, they came out right away to work on it... no wait whatsoever. While I waited (which was only about 15 minutes), they checked my AC system, found no leak (the coolant had naturally seeped out over the course of 14 years), and recharged the coolant. My car's AC is blowing cold again. Had I taken it anywhere else, I most likely would have had to leave my car all day and the price would have been high. At Chuck's the cost for doing the work and refilling the coolant was only $75. I highly recommend this place should your car need AC repair. read more

I have been going to Chuck for over 10 years with several vehicles. He has done some major repairs for me with excellent results. On at least 3 occasions, I went there thinking there might be a major problem, and Chuck fixed it quickly and with no charge. Last week, after I fixed the hoses leading to the heater control valve on my ford Ranger pickup, I noticed the AC was not blowing as cold as usual. I took it to Chuck thinking it might need a recharge. He looked under the hood and found a cracked connection on a vacuum line leading to the control valve. He fixed it in two minutes and sent me on my way, no charge. The AC is now blowing very cold, good as new. I recommend Chuck for all AC repairs, has always been extremely honest and knowledgeable. read more
