My car has a heating issue. I went to this place and the agreement was 55$ to do just the inspection and to figure out the parts needed. I got a call from them after I dropped off the car owner said its just the thermostat issue he said it would cost 317$ I agreed I also asked if that's the only thing needs to be replaced for resolving heating issue, he said no leaks or anything mostly likely that's the only issue and we only know for sure after replacing the thermostat. Several hours later, the technician told me he hasn't replaced the thermostat and said to fix the heating problem they also need to rip apart the whole dashboard to replace some actuator that controls the vent and quoted me 1500$. I said NO don't replace anything I would like to get my car back and I would only pay 55$ for the inspection. They threatened me that I wouldn't get my car back unless I paid 317$ even though they didn't replace the thermostat or anything. Without any other choice I was forced to pay the amount and get my car back, it was cold night and had to drive without heater Owner treated me so badly after I paid for their poor service and he was proud of his 4.0 reviews I felt so sorry that I went to this place just because I got coupon from this place and I didn't check their reviews online. Also he was pushing for coolant flush for another 70$ which wouldn't have made any difference whatsoever. Either they failed to do a proper job of inspection to figure out all the parts and service needed or they are complete dishonest scammers, either way this place is junk please don't take your car here. read more

Bad quality! I can not recommend this place. They take short cuts. They replaced my brake pads with the lowest quality possible. All the brakes did was squeak. I had to take it to another shop after contacting them 3 times and getting them to replace them once. Never again. read more

Went in to get a tire replaced on a Taurus with a tire I had already purchased. Got home and checked the air pressure which is normally 30 -32 pounds. BTW, I've been working on Taurus models for 20 years. Pilgrim puts in 42 pounds! They say that's normal. Re-torquing the rims to 100 ft lbs at home, I couldn't budge the lug nuts off of the replaced tire/rim even with a breaker bar. Returned to Pilgrim where a worker with big muscles struggled to loosen the lugs. No sorry or anything. Not to even mention they charge double what Belle Tire charges. Then the owner came out to argue and believe me he wasn't kind. DO NOT go to this business! read more

They get minus stars! I took my car in and they were very nice! But man o man they charged me $120 just to diagnose the problems, and then wanted over $1400 to replace my throttle body and fuel rail pressure sensor (both very easy fixes). They said it was 3.5 hours in labor. I literally YouTubed how to do both and got them both replaced in around 45 minutes. Parts total cost me a little less than $300. I should have remembered from my past 3 visits that this place only says BS but they have a "$9.95 Oil Change Special" so I gave them one last try last weekend, which I totally regret. I will never ever go back again. They are SLOW, UNTRUTHFUL, and all SCAM! Don't even give it a thought because $9.95 is not gonna be any saving for you by the time you leave the shop. I went for an oil change, was told it will be "about 30-45 min. wait" so I waited at the McDonald next door and came back 40 minutes later finding my car with all tires removed, which I did not even ask for. They said "one is too dangerous to drive and recommend replacing all four for $480." I had all tires checked a few months ago and was told it will be good for another year or longer, so I asked if they can just put them back on and I will shop around. They said "if we have to put it back, it has to be a spare tire because it is too dangerous. We have a great deal. IF you cannot afford four, replace one, but no tire rotation needed because it should be fine." Do not spend money at this place! I really had high hopes for this shop, given that the vibe in Plymouth is very community oriented and even the most obscure of businesses are quaint little mom & pop shops that likely would not be able to keep their doors open if they were in a different location (there is a Kites & Stuff doing just fine down the road where you go to buy - well - kites). Anyway, about 2 months ago I shopped around for a used tire because the one I had kept going flat on me, and Pilgrim Auto had the exact one I needed in stock. I was in and out very quickly which I initially thought was great, and the damage wasn't too bad at $55. Then something peculiar happened about a week later - I walked out to my car and the used tire was extremely low. I chalked it up to just having 4 tires that needed to be replaced before winter, so I decided to keep an eye on it and just drive it as long as possible until I got a new set. Two weeks ago I was at the point of putting almost 20lbs of air into this tire every other day. The last straw was when I put air in it at noon, and found it almost flat by 5pm. I drove back to Pilgrim Auto and the shop manager told me - and I quote - "you need an alignment badly and your front tie rod is off which is causing the inside of the wheel to be rubbed right through". Naturally concerned, I was talked into buying a new tire for $127 (now having spent $182 there) and was reassured it was the only way to safely get my car to Lansing where I could get these repairs done with trusted mechanics I've used before. My car had to sit a week until I could get it in for a fix, and wouldn't you know - a week later as it sat parked I pulled up to find that the new tire was now flat. Imagine that. Turns out I did NOT need front tie rods, and I did NOT need an alignment. What I needed - was for the individual installing my tire to actually make sure the seal was good. Not once on one tire, but twice with 2 different tires. So I bought 4 brand new tires and took my $127 tire with 80 miles on it back to Pilgrim Auto for a refund. I didn't get a refund. I didn't even get an apology. What I got, was an offer to buy my tire back at the going rate of $30 - which they would then turn around and sell used for $55-$60 or more. How convenient of an opportunity, to sell a tire twice in 2 weeks - in addition to the used one they sold me 2 months ago. This place is a joke. I'm sure many people have had work done with little to no issues, but I've spent nearly $200 there and had to go elsewhere just to find a solution that is literally so elementary I dismissed it thinking there's no way a professional establishment or its employees would be capable of making this kind of mistake - twice. Do not be fooled by a $9.95 oil change coupon! They have a "$9.95 Oil Change Special" so I gave them a try. They are a SCAM! Don't even give it a thought because $9.95 is gonna cost you WAY more by the time you leave! If I could give this place a half star I would. The people that I dealt with did not give me straight answers like I would have wanted to see. They sold me a rim that I did not need and charged me more than I should have paid. If you need a refund or want to talk to someone in management there you have to go on certain days. I feel that they staff should be more informed about what is going on with orders. They were very hard to deal with on a regular basis. What a scam! I wanted to help a local business out. Came in from coupon on an oil change special. We agreed on 20 something plus dollars, so I dropped my car off. I get a call from Steve telling me they already drained my oil and it needs synthetic oil and it will be over a 70 dollar charge. They didn't call me before draining the oil to let me know this. I told him I would like to get my regular oil change which we agreed upon. He called back and said they actually didn't drain my oil. Wow, totally got caught in his own scheme! Went in for an oil change with their coupon but you have to be careful. Last time I went in for my 2013 Ford Escape, they wanted to charge me $30 for an oil change they advertised for $14.95. I almost have to make sure before the change, I be very specific in my questioning a to make sure I don't get dink. If you can get their oil change only, it is not a bad deal. My coworker is a BIG car geek, so when something happened on my Ford Focus and I needed it looked at ASAP, I asked him who he recommended. He told me to call Marty at Pilgrim Automotive. I brought my car in on my way home from work thanks to their GREAT hours and they got me right in. All the guys at Pilgrim were extremely nice, helpful, and never made me feel dumb for not knowing a thing about cars. They looked at my car and were able to fix the problem on the spot. I never felt like they were trying to give me the run around or took advantage of my lack of knowledge. They have now become my #1 go to for auto maintenance and I have been telling my whole family about them. BEWARE!!! Do NOT bring your car here!! I took my car to have a leak repaired. They stripped the lug nut with their "powerful equipment" so that it could not be removed. So, I took it back and they ruined my rim trying to get it off. They refused to replace the rim. They refused to give me a receipt. When I insisted on a receipt the manager/owner told me to "shut the f--- up!" He called my friend a "fat f---" and claimed we were trying to get something for nothing. I should have read some reviews before I ever took my car there. I wish I could leave zero stars because that is what this place deserves. read more

Just want to give a heads up to potential customers: 1. If you are told that the initial diagnostics fee will be applied to work you have done it may or may not be true. They charged me the initial fee as well as another diagnostics fee that I was later told about. 2. They have additional costs, besides tax, that they do not mention when they give you your cost estimate (over the phone). Called 'shop supplies' they cover things such as rags & fluids and are a percentage of your bill. What % I do not know. When I mentioned to the manager that he told me that the initial $69.99 was supposed to be applied to repairs done he said that he did not say that, but that he said that it may or may not be applied. Sorry, but that isn't true - I would have asked him to elaborate. When I told him I was unhappy that $66.50 in charges wasn't mentioned as part of the estimate, he told me that they don't mention tax and some of them don't bother giving customers the 'bottom-line' cost. Bummer. After much discussion in which I learned that they spent extra hours on my truck and made no money on it, I was told that he would rather never have me come back again than give me the $140. Apparently that would be them paying me to fix my truck. I didn't ask for the full amount, by the way, but did want the $69.99 promised. I told him that I don't want what happened to me to happen to other people. That people should be told the total cost upfront. I mentioned that I was going to write a comment on 'yelp'. Then he wanted to make me happy. Yep. Offered me a store credit in oil changes for the $69.99. I told him 'no thanks' I don't want to come back. He told me I was being childish - yes childish - "like a kid who takes his ball and goes home when he doesn't get his way" (his words). He offered me a (rather valuable) Care Car Club membership card. I said no to that, too. He asked what he could do to make me happy. I told him that I just wanted them to be upfront about car repair costs with future customers. It's too bad. If he had just acknowledged what he had told me about the initial fee then I wouldn't have a stomach ache or be writing this review. By the way, I have no problems with their mechanics or the quality of their work. My new fuel pump is working well. read more

I had a flat July 8 2018 was stranded overnight at McDonald's on July 9 i walked to Pilgrims talked to owner Marty explaining my dilemma l was stranded overnight in the Heat needed help with tire he told me to get the size of tire and he'd see if they have any Used tires for me l called him with size and Yes he had a used tire for me he said Drive car there even though it was flat and I had no clue if my rim would be damaged?? I drove there, Marty was gone so Steve said he'd look for a tire same size? I said it's already been found as I waited 45 mins later Steve found a tire the Mechanic took old tire off put new used tire on i paid $40 & drove to Kroger about 1 1/2 miles away went into store as I returned to leave MY TIRE WAS FLAT. By this time it was late again I was stranded in the Heat!!! I didn't get help until Wed where I'd suffered from Heat exhaustion !!! I dropped my car off for a simple oil/filter change which they said would take an hour - when I came back, my car was lofted up and in pieces. They tried to tell me they found several other problems they wanted to fix right away during an inspection that I never asked for. My dad had already checked my car the night before and found none of these problems. Two men proceeded to be VERY rude to me, told me I was being irrational when I questioned the problems, and patronized me ("sweetheart" and "honey"). When I called my dad to talk to them for me, the manager was VERY rude to him as well and told him he did a poor job raising me. I would NEVER recommend this dishonest, rude place. read more

The axle on our truck broke and fell to the ground on Ford Road on Saturday we were quite a distance from home and all of the dealerships where closed for the day. We searched for a service center close by and Pilgrim automotive popped up The owner Marty yet answer the phone and told us they would try to repair it the same day but if not they were open in mechanics were on duty on Sundays we felt very lucky that we did not have to pay for a tow bill all the way back to our local dealer The tow truck showed up in 10 minutes Marty called us in one hour and told us the parts were coming and they would have the whole job complete on Sunday by noon. Well low and behold if we didn't get a call from Marty the next morning by 11 as promised when we went to pick up our truck on Monday we were able to meet Marty in person andhe was just as friendly and as nice as the day before .he noticed our tail light was out and repaired it at no charge . I had my car's oil, and supposedly, oil filter changed at this shop in July, 2013. The shop charged me $5.10 for an oil filter, which was never replaced. They ripped me off. I will file a complaint with the State of Michigan. read more

Granted this review should have come a few years ago, but I was not reviewing on yelp then. This business has been there for years though, and I will feel better just sharing my experiences with them on yelp! We used to use them for car repairs. One of the last time we used them, after $1000+ in repairs, I picked up my car and found it smoking. I returned it, and they said to take it to a car wash and do an engine cleaning as there was some residual liquid (oil I believe) on the engine from whatever they fixed. So, my husband took it to the car wash and used the engine cleaner on it. The next day I was clear across town when it started automatically accelerating. The car was idling very fast. It was a harried drive home and back to Pilgrim. They said there was a new problem because of the engine cleaner and that it affected some other part and that would be another $350. I had not choice but to have it fixed as it was terrifying to drive. I felt really ripped off and can only imagine that I am not the only one. My husband said it would have been clearly avoided had they cleaned up while doing their work so the oil smoking would have never occurred in the first place. Find another place to go to! read more
