I came here today during a walk around Lake Geneva. When I went to put my mask on I realized that I had forgotten my wallet in the car. The server, Julie, couldn't have been nicer about it. Great place. It seems to be just about the only holdout from Gordy's which owns just about every other storefront on the block. It's not easy balancing the entertainment needs of the year-round folks and the summer crowd, but Chuck's does it well. I visited Chuck's over the summer during my first visit to Lake Geneva in years. I was staying with some friends at my friend's parents' home nearby, and when a local tells you where to eat, you listen, of course! Overall, I was very pleased with our lunch visit to Chuck's. We had to order at the bar and then bring our food to our table, which was unique, but the food was VERY good. I grabbed a Spotted Cow, because when in Wisconsin, you must, and to eat I ordered a tuna salad sandwich. The sandwich came with a pickle on the side. If you're into sandwiches or tuna salad, the tuna salad sandwich is definitely my lunch recommendation! Chuck's piles on the tuna and lettuce, and does not skimp on any part of the sandwich. I would go back to eat that sandwich in a heartbeat. Besides that, there's also plenty of seating and the restrooms were mostly clean. There were a lot of flies around our table, but I wonder if that is because it was hot and everywhere we could've gone would have been sticky and icky? Unless you're a fan of "ok-ish" food and you don't care for your own health and well-being, then this is the place for you. This place did nothing to prevent the spread of COVID. Everyone would look at you for actually wearing a mask. The bartender had no mask on. The guy who brought our food out had no mask on. And the family with small children playing pool (not eating or drinking at the time) had no mask on. read more

Oh My God, are these people nuts? While I waited for my take-out order, I counted over 60 people in Chuck's this afternoon and only one person (other than me) had a mask. Forget "social distancing"... Non-Existent. Last week's reports said incidences of the COVID-19 virus had increased by over 53% in Wisconsin over the last two weeks and these people seemed totally oblivious. My sandwich was great, although the guy who made it was eating his own lunch (with this unwashed hands and unmasked face) while I watched and waited. I know because he brought mine out to my bar tender, who gave it to me. The service and sandwich were good, but these are NOT normal times. I hope to do a new and better review of Chuck's, but today was an absolute, life-threatening (not kidding) health disaster. I wish I had walked out before ordering. I'm scared for what today's exposure might lead to... Please step it up and get a clue!!! Although we're Trump and Walker supporters, this was inexcusable and potentially fatal incident to my father who is immunocompromised with cancer, waited in the car out front. - Sorry if this review got to "in your face" or "personal"... Chuck's is one of the best establishments in Southern Wisconsin. The food is awesome and priced very well. So cheap! Service is always the best regardless of how crowded this place gets. Telling a single mom she is a bad mom is just not good customer service. Refusing to apologize to a women you made cry is worse. I am glad the manager thinks he handled the situation in a way he is proud of, but our group of 25 people that have been patronizing that bar annually for over a decade do not agree. Our group will never return. And I would suggest other families do the same. If a bar that offers table game available for children can't reasonably handle it when children are children, maybe they should publicize a no kids policy. If not, maybe they should learn how to treat people with respect and humanity. read more

This tavern reminds me of the taverns I grew up with as a kid. Hey, I'm from Wisconsin, don't judge. You order your food from a limited menu (think burgers) and then go choose a place to sit. The bartenders are quick to wait on you and the service was very fast. The burgers were straight-up Wisco bar burgers, and that's ok with me. Good selection of beer, too. read more

Definitely a tavern/bar feel and I was all about it. Order at the bar, menus on the table, views of the water, and history all over. Popcorn machine and pinball available. We stopped here after hiking from Lake Geneva, so it was a much needed respite. Food is good but simple. I had the ahi ahi sandwich with sweet potato fries. Remarkably, and shockingly - this is the best New England Clam Chowder I've ever tasted. Tender clam strips and plenty of dill and butter really take this soup to the top of the taste charts. Never thought I'd find it here! Reasonable drink prices, and incredibly wholesome and homestyle pub food make this the obvious local place to chow if you're on the West side of Lake Geneva. For many years my family, friends and I have gone to chucks. Great workers and people would crowd this restaurant and it WAS a great time place. Now the new workers have turned this place into a non friendly restaurant. They profiled me and my 10 friends who are all college kids and said that it's a rule that we must be 21 to eat there. That's never been a rule in that establishment or anywhere in Wisconsin. If you are under 21 don't go to this place. The worst part about it was one of there workers that approached us was very unkind and you can tell that he and the other workers are delayed and not friendly. Came here for dinner. Nice exterior with a great view of Lake Geneva. Convenient parking and lots of space at the bar or seating. Great layout for a big gathering or a small group. Friendly bar tender takes your order and they bring the food out to you. Had the fish and chips with a side salad. Had house made chips substituted in and I don't regret it. Decent portion size. Fish had a nice batter, good saltiness, crisp, not too think or thin. Very satisfied. Chips were crispy and light, not too oily. Good thickness. Standard coleslaw on the side too.
