My parents and I stopped here around five on a Friday evening. The place was not too busy and we were served immediately. There's a lot to choose from on the menu so take your time reading the descriptions and enjoy the unlimited free chips (nice + warm) and salsa at your table. I decided to order a combo: one beef taco and one shredded pork tostada that came with refried beans and yellow rice. My mom got a burrito and my dad ordered a chalupa. By the time our food came out we (mainly my dad and I) went through three baskets worth of chips and salsa. They were pretty darn good and unfortunately the best part of the meal. They fill up your plate with a lot of the fillers (rice and beans). The food was nothing special and we were all kind of dissapointed. This place wasn't expensive but I don't think we got our money's worth. Ended up bringing the leftovers home for our pups. read more

Terrible service. Boring food. Went about a month ago, early on a Friday evening. My husband stood at the front door (no sign whether you seat yourself or wait to be seated) for several minutes and were passed by no less than 5 employees - not one acknowledged our presence. So eventually, I just grabbed someone and told them I was sitting down at an available table. The response was just a confused "ok". Then we were ignored a little longer before our completely disengaged server came to the table. No smile, no hello, took forever to get drinks even though we could see her just standing at the entrance to the kitchen staring into space. Finally, called her over to take our order, which took forever and was again just rudely dropped at our table and no further checks from our server who we could observe the entire time and was just complete not interested in doing her job. - Most of the staff appeared to have this look of irritation on them. No one was pleasant at this place. The chips and salsa are good. But beyond that, our meals were just 'cafeteria line' Mexican. Bland and boring. Dry rice, flat beans, etc. Normally, I would have walked out from a restaurant with staff so rude. But we have so few mexican options in town, I wanted to know if the food was worth giving the place a second shot at better service....it wasn't. We stopped in here with no expectations, just looking for some decent Mexican food. What we got was an amazing meal, great service, and very reasonable prices! Absolutely the best guacamole I've ever enjoyed, and I am a total guacamole snob. This was so fresh, with a perfect balance of spices and flavors. One of my daughters ordered mango shrimp tacos. They were fabulous! Again spot on with spices and served hot and fresh. The other daughter ordered tacos de carne asada, aka steak tacos. She's only a "lettuce and cheese" type of taco fan so it wasn't the way they typically prepare them, but she loved them. I had the chicken enchiladas. Again, very fresh and tasty. Fajitas had high-quality chicken breast and OK steak. Our main critique is that they should take some risks with sauces. My spice-loving husband felt the salsas were not hot enough (he even requested the spicier version and found it "mild"). Overall, we would eat here again if it was convenient, but probably would not go out of our way. read more

I am surprised at so many negative reviews. I have had the opposite experience with! We moved here from TX a couple years ago and have been trying to find the perfect Mexican spot, and that's what we found with Chulas! From the moment we walked in it was wonderful. The servers are so friendly and remember us every time we go back! We make a point to try something new on the menu each time we go and it has always been delicious - they do not skimp on the meat in their dishes like I have seen so many times before at other places. Their sauces are delicious and savory and the guacamole is made fresh and has plenty of onions and cilantro in it!! I found the prices to be on point with many of the other Mexican restaurants we have tried, and also note that they have a daily special during the week of some of their most popular dishes at a reduced price as well as lunch specials! Pros: complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa tasted fresh and it was so delicious we had high hopes for the rest of the food. All the dishes are reasonably priced and I liked that there were even vegetarian options on the menu. Cons: we ordered our entrees and it was at over 20 minutes later when food hit our table. The kitchen was so slow. Also both of the items I ordered were out. And the place seemed unorganized overall, there's no hostess so people would crowd at the door unsure of where to go to get a table. They also don't have tables for parties bigger than 4. The servers were running around constantly but drinks weren't being refilled and it seemed like they were just as overwhelmed as the kitchen must have been. Food: I got the vegetarian plate and I loved, loved the chills relleno. The cheese enchilada was also good. The other two items though I didn't eat as they were essentially a bean and cheese hard taco and this all came with rice and a large portion of beans. My mom got the fajitas and the meat was overcooked and dry but she did like the flavor. Overall, it's a new place so it's got to work out some kinks but I would go back in a month or two once they've had time to settle in. 2nd time here. They're very prompt to service. The chips and salsa are made fresh to order which is always a plus in my book. They do carryout which is very convenient and so far I've ordered differently at each visit and the food quality and quantity has not suffered. read more

I love Mexican food. Unfortunately, we are not blessed with wonderful choices here (in my opinion) but I did try Chula's for the first time the other day at lunch. Service was very prompt and the food came out in a timely manner but unfortunately I was not blown away by it. I found it pretty mediocre. I had the chicken enchiladas with salsa verde. Searching for a good, classic, Mexican-style meal. Found it, here at the new place in town! A very nice interior, complimented with polite and attentive wait staff! Not much in the way of good Mexican food on Spring Hill. So we are lucky to have a place as excellent as Chulas. The food is indeed 5 star and excellent with the best table salsa I have ever eaten. Having eaten here twice with both dishes being perfect I still can't bring my self to give a full 5 star review....because the price is a bit high for mexican. If my favorite Mexican place 45 minutes away was next door....I would have a tough decision to make even though the food is not as good. So if you are ok with spending a few extra dollars go to Chulas the food is excellent! read more

Very good for the style of Mexican food they serve. Clean restaurant and owners are always there! Fresh chips go great with their fresh salsa! Nice portions. Salsa Verde is HHHHHOoootttt!! And oh so good! Mix it in with the cheese dip. Guacamole is outstanding. Suggestion...offer a few "California" style plates/tacos with corn tortilla, meat, fresh julienned himica/radish, cabbage, slice of avocado, fresh cilantro, graded Côte cheese, touch of Mexican crema and a lime. There are very few Mexican restaurants in Spring Hill! This may be why there prices are so high and the portions so small . It's Mexican food !!! Every Mexican restaurant we have ever gone to give you large portions of everything, beans and rice is very inexpensive but not here!!! Margaritas should have alcohol in them we ordered some and we're not impressed. The enchiladas smaller than Chinese eggrolls and very expensive. When you go here expect to spend some time because the service is very slow, thank God there are two new Mexican restaurant opening in the area soon. read more

I'd heard not so good things so I was hesitant to try this place. Went with friends on a Friday night and was actually surprised. We started with a queso/sausage dip that was yummy. I had fajitas for two with a friend and it was a very generous portion. The seasoning on the chicken was good and it was cooked perfectly. The meal came with rice & refried beans and fixings for your tacos. The service was decent and the prices were reasonable. This was our 4th time here in a couple years. This time the place was beautiful inside with the painted tables and chairs making it very inviting. This time I got the large sampler of starters just for myself and I could bearly eat it all. Delicious. What a wonderful surprise. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her chicken/avocado salad. Her ONLY complaint was no coffee or hot beverage of any kind. She loves her coffee. So that lack cost Chulas one star. There must be a new manager because the ambience is awesome now. We are here last night for the first time. The place is nice and the people are kind and attentive. This place tastes more authentic than the place on 50. They give you free chips and salsa upon sitting and I thought the salsa was very good. I ordered the mango shrimp tacos and oh my. They tasted great. My fiancé got pork tacos which he is enjoyed. The biggest issues I had were: the tables outside are a little small for four people and they use corn tortillas. I love corn tortillas but with the sauce in the mango taco it just fell apart. This is my return visit about a year or so after the first. Was not impressed the first time there but since they redecorated and improved the food my opinion has changed. Very nice Mexican decor. Colorful walls, painted furniture and nicely done bar. The food was the best Mexican in the area. Chicken soup was outstanding, guacamole was fresh and the enchiladas and tamales were great! Honestly, I could look past the drop in food quality if it the service was still good. Service has been going down hill since pre COVID times and is now just bad. It takes several minutes to get someone to come take a drink order and that is with the restaurant only half full. Still can't figure out why they bother to bring you chips and salsa. They only bring a basket with like 10 chips in it. What is the point? Really cute restaurant with good food. Went for lunch and the prices and portions were great. Service was great too! I ordered the fajitas and they were very good, but did not stay warm throughout the meal. These were served on a plate and not a skillet which was odd. For lunch this was a 4 star experience, but if I had to pay dinner prices for the same dish I may have to give it a 3. This was my first visit so I will have to come back and try it again. read more

The salsa was very good - fresh vegetables. The only down side - the cilantro should be chopped into smaller pieces. 4 inches is just too big of a piece. We visited on a Tuesday around 7 PM. There was only 1 other customer in the restaurant. We ordered our drinks and he brought them out quickly with the chips. Our appetizer, tortilla soup came out after a wait (15 minutes) and before we could finish our dinner arrived. The waiter checked on us only once after we were served. Our drinks needed to be refilled and we could not get anyone's attention. The other waitress was too busy wiping down other tables to even look our way. Then everyone disappeared into the kitchen. I finally went over to another waitress and asked for more water and to go boxes. A few minutes later and our server still did not come over. My husband went up to the bar and asked our server for the check. The service was terrible and food was just okay. The fajitas were not seasoned enough. Only 3 tortillas were brought out with the combo platter. There was hardly any cheese on the enchalada. We most likely will not be back. read more
