Reanna and I stopped in to have lunch at Chulas after my dentist appointment. Excellent choice!!! . I wanted Mexican chicken soup and sweet plantains ... Reanna got a salad and chicken tortilla soup. I asked for the plantains more done ... and let me tell you they were perfection!!! . When we were done (half came home with us) I ordered the Flan. . OMG ... the flan is to die for y'all!!!! I need to find out if they sell them whole to take home!!!! . Had the cutest nicest waiter ever. He made sure we had everything we needed. . Definitely a great experience for an impromptu lunch. . I wanted so badly to like this place. I really did. This was my 3rd visit in 5 years, and I'm just not impressed. Unfortunately, this will be my last time going. The food is just too Americanized and not authentic in any way whatsoever. The waitress was just ok, and not exactly the friendliest. I asked a couple of questions about the food and drink, and she seemed like she really didn't want to talk. I asked about the Sangria, and when I decided I didn't want to get one, she seemed annoyed. I needed a couple of minutes to make up my mind about my entree, so I went ahead and ordered the queso and it really did taste like it was just melted American cheese. I got the shrimp enchiladas and my husband got the shrimp burrito. The plate had these strange raised lines in them so cutting the enchiladas was hard to cut without moving it around on the plate. The enchiladas weren't impressive and not many shrimp in them either. My husband said his was ok and had worse before. The menu was great. It's not too overwhelming and it had a front and backside to it. Prices were about average and they had a full bar. The atmosphere is nice they also offer seating outside as well. Ordered and paid through the DoorDash app. Once the driver went there to pick up our food, he was told that I had to pay more money. Highly confused, I asked why because I already paid. He was told that the steak costs more. Still confused because we paid the extra costs for steak, I told him that we would NOT be paying more, that they are trying to scam us for more money. Had a happy hour margarita and even with the house tequila i must say it was phenomenal. Pros: The staff is pleasant. They are bilingual, at least the lady that waited on me. The decor is pretty and authentic-looking. Cons; Air conditioning barely seems to be working. I have sweat running down my face. Do not get the a la carte tacos. I think they were trying to get rid of them at end of night. They were inedible. I told her that the grease didn't even look drained. I specified that I cannot eat anything greasy. This was terribly greasy. She looked insulted. She asked if I wanted anything else but explained that anything she got me would be like this. Also the bus boy was rude. Threw my silverware at me snd didn't bother to look at me, no hola, no hello. He did the same to the table next to me. This place has gone downhill. I was here two other times, many years ago, and it was decent enough. If I wanted a stomachache I would have gone to fast food. The one stars is for the nice decor. That is all. The tacos looked fine when they put them on the table but they were cold and greasy. I am sad that I wasted what could have been a nice meal out on garbage. A simple apology as to why they served end of the night cold slop would have went a long way toward some effort. So, I was charged for a side of jalapenos, but they were left off the order of nachos! Lousy restaurant with horrible customer service. Wow! This place was so much better than I thought it would be. I had a veggie burrito that was way larger than the photo looks. The tomatillo sauce was incredible! It had so much flavor! The veggies inside were so nicely grilled. My daughter had the kids bean taco. It came with a side of rice and a side of beans. She usually doesn't finish all of her food, but that was the most I've seen her eat in a while. She cleaned the plate! I snuck a taste of the beans and they were very good! The atmosphere was relaxing and I loved the custom tables and benches. The only reason I left a star off was the slowness of service. My two dogs have been at a kennel since we sold our farm and this was one of the only places near the kennel that had outdoor seating that allowed dogs. Thank you, thank you, *thank you* from the bottom of my heart for having this for the dogs, they have been in a kennel for a month! We don't usually eat Mexican food but thought we'd give it a try as it was very close to us and we passed it a number of times. We will order again and maybe stop in to eat in the future. Such a great Mexican spot! The interior is cute and the staff is friendly! Our server gave us recommendations and was sweet. Salsa and guacamole are very flavorful and the chips were warm.
