I came here for the first time one Sunday afternoon in January. It was fairly busy as it was lunch time, but I was seated right away. I ordered the LA Kalbi. Like another reviewer mentioned, this was cooked and prepared (Mongolian style) in the kitchen. It came out on a sizzling skillet. It tasted delicious. The meat was really tender and juicy, but there were a couple of pieces with bone-in which I didn't really care for. I thought the side-dishes were really good. I completely finished the kimchi and pickled cucumbers. So good. I almost forgot about the miso soup. It was pretty standard (which is good) and hit the spot on a wintery day. Unexpectedly, for dessert, the server brought out a Haagan Daas ice-cream bar lol. I wasn't sure if this was normal or if it was just because I'm handsome? (found out later they do this for everyone... lol). I didn't really have room b/c I was full from the main dish and sides but ate it anyways (why not?). Overall I had a delicious meal. I can't remember the pricing off the top of my head, but I would say that it's reasonably priced. Oh, they also serve alcohol here too so if your looking for a spot for a group of people, that is an option. I personally had a large Cass to wash down my meal. Daebak! read more

From the outside, this is a very non-assuming restaurant located in a small plaza with a strip of other establishments. I was looking for a restaurant near Ikea, and this place came up in my searches. It did not dissapoint. I think the bi bim bap and the naengmyeon are 2 of the most worth dishes to order here. The food portions are very large and you get a real bang for your buck. The meal came with a good variety of korean side dishes: kimchi, tofu, beansprouts, cucumbers. The seafood pancake is delicious. I'd love to order it again. However, for $18, it's a bit expensive for me conpared to other seafood pancakes I've had. Service is great too. Our servers were very attentive. It was a good dining experience. The only thing is the decor is very strange. It's clean and tidy but some of the decor adds a strange ambiance. I came here at least twice before and I had the kbbq. I remember the menu being more extensive? It seemed a little smaller when we came in last Saturday. Nevertheless, the service was still amazing. Parking is easy and sufficient. They have two areas to dine in. The right side is more for groups. We ordered pa jun, won ton, hot pot bibimbop, and sontofu casserole. They also give you bottles of water and free ice cream. Portions were generous for the prices. You can see in the pictures. Of course, you'll get the free side dishes to occupy your meal. Overall, it's 3.5. I'm a little disappointed by the smaller menu and lack of meat in the entrees. The previous times I would have given them a 4.5. -pa jun - 5 - Korean style pancake with fish, shrimp, and squid. Definitely, one of the highlights of the meal. Pancakes were light and filling. -won ton - 5 - fried Korean style dumplings. Texture was crunchy. Good filling. Not too oily. -hot pot bibimbop - 3 - I love bibimbop however there is barely any beef in there. First couple times I've been here, meat was plentiful. It seemed like recently they started to be skimpy with the meat and seafood. If you get it in the clay pot, the crispy burnt rice on the bottom is the best part. Always a good time when I come here. This time I came for a double date with my family and my bf (cute, I know!) for Valentine's Day. This is my third time coming here with my bf so we were accustomed to calling in our reservation which we made a couple of weeks in advance. As soon as we came in, you are instantaneously hit with the yummy aroma of cooked meats and veggies. It's honest to God, a scent that is drool worthy. We ordered up the Chungkiwa special which is a lovely mixture of meats and seafoods. We got our ban chan and our kimchi fried rice. As usual, the customer service was prime as the sweet, young lady was our sever. She was so quick, attentive and kind. We never felt like we were a burden to her as this restaurant was pretty busy tonight. All in all, this place is amazing. The main reason my bf and I treated my family here was for them to get a slice of Korean bbq heaven and what better time then for Valentine's Day?!? They thoroughly enjoyed the food and the customer service. The food was plentiful and tasty. You can tell that the quality of meat is good and not only that, we absolutely love the cast iron grill everything is cooked on. It helps to ensure that everything is cool evenly and it cooks the meat fast which is much appreciated. This place has an old school charm to it which I really enjoy. Confusing and disappointing I see the good reviews, but I don't get it. Service was ok. Weird decor and some duct tape. They serve room temperature bottled water. Weird. Dumplings came out soggy. Disgustingly soggy. Owner came out and explained it was "Japaneses style." I've worked in Japanese kitchens. Gyoza is fried and then lightly steamed, not sopping wet soggy. Replaced with overly fried dumplings. What can you do. $14.95. Ordered 2 servings of galbi ($41.95/serving). It is cut thick so marinade just sits on the outside and does zero marinating. Not what we were expecting. You have to cut the roll of meat with dull scissors. Gas grill. It just didn't taste good. 5 dishes of the blandest banchan I've ever had. Even the kimchi was tasteless. Soup was some kind of egg drop soup with a ton of msg. Wtf? Gave me a stomach ache. I couldn't even eat the ice cream they serve at the end. Best a la carte Korean place for the price in the suburbs! Quality- everything I had here is good. I Ike how generous they are with the veggies to offset the heavy savory flavors in Korean dishes. From the outside looking in, I didn't think this place looked like it would be a good kbbq location. I was pleasantly surprised, though. I went here with a group of four and was seated rather quickly. The combination grill platter has a selection of nicely seasoned meats, including some seafood options. I'd say that with four people, you may need to order two of the main dishes with it to feel really full. For a party of two or three, this option would probably be enough, though. Though I didn't take a picture of the stone pot bi bim bap, it was probably my favorite part of the meal. Each of the side dishes was well portioned and tasted pretty good as well. The dumpling soup comes with the combination platter and actually had a nice flavor. There were two bowls total that came with the main entree. Another thing I did not expect was that I'd be getting complementary Häagen-Dazs ice cream. I didn't do any research on this place before going, so this was pretty nice. I am taking a star away because one of the servers kept getting really close and personal. this place is a prime example of "big fish, small pond". not many kbbq places outside chicago, so i'm assuming that's why this place has such high ratings. 4.7 stars is a HUGE overshoot in my opinion. nobody on yelp had taken a pic of their recent menus (so i did, ur welcome), and they don't have a website with it either. i'd assume a kbbq place (like every single other one), would have brisket. it's the most basic, simple kbbq meat. but this place didn't have it. there also isn't any nice sides like corn cheese. in lieu of brisket, i decided to order bulgolgi. and while its listed under the "kbbq" section of the menu, they're not bringing out the raw meat for you to grill like kbbq. it just comes out on a hot plate. i didn't mind this, but it's a little deceiving to list it under this category. the bulgolgi was okay, but nothing special. my boyfriend ordered yukgaejang since there weren't many good meat options for the kbbq, and it was a little subpar in my opinion. had barely any spice to it and the meat wasn't nice and shredded like how the dish is supposed to be. it was more-so just little chunks of beef and some of them had some fat on it. the dish didn't seem like a spectacular, spicy yukgaejang that i'm used to tasting anywhere in california. the staff was friendly and they gave hagaan daaz ice cream for free at the conclusion of the meal. the place is a little tiny, so id recommend a reservation if you choose to come here (it was pretty dead for a weekend when i went though). overall, i wouldn't come back here and would try to find a more authentic restaurant for soups or a place that has traditional kbbq meats, sides & dipping sauces. read more

It's a no frills, but includes all the delicious sides you would be expect. Because the space is not huge, you feel like you're just at someone's home enjoying some Korean bbq. Wow the sever and the owner here are so nice. Definitely a family owned Korean restaurant vibe. The meat are super fresh. We got two different type of Kal Bi and the meat was super tender. The pork belly cut was thicker than we expected but after done cooking, it really melt in your mouth and didn't have a overwhelming pork taste. The raw beef salad was definitely a hit. It was flavorful and delicious. The side dishes, especially the kim chi were fresh and homemade. Definitely one of the better Korean BBQ places in the suburbs. We came here for lunch on a Saturday and the owners are lovely people and the food was tasty, but this is certainly not a 5 star experience. The restaurant is in a scrappy little strip mall and has a very worn and dated dining room. The first thing you notice when you enter is the smell of grilled meat and grease. The tables and floor are wiped clean but haven't been reconditioned in a long, long time. The place was full when we arrived, so it was critical to have a reservation or we would not have been seated. Prices are very high for both the type of food and portion size. Others have commented positively on the quality of the meat, but I was not impressed. The bulgogi and kalbi were both no better than cuts of beef at Texas Roadhouse and a significant step below Ruth's Chris or Morton's. Service sucked because the place was busy, they don't have enough staff, and the owners struggle with English. The dining experience itself was fun and as mentioned the beef was tasty. One of the best meals I've had in the Chicagoland area in recent memory! One thing that has been hard for me to find near downtown Chicago is great korean bbq. I've finally found my go to spot now, this place is legit and rivals all of the best kbbq places that I've been to on the west coast. We got the meat and seafood BBQ special as well as the kal bi. The BBQ special comes with little banchans to eat on the side (which are refillable), and you can also ask for little bowls of rice to eat your meal with. Everything including the chicken, the pork, the beef, and the seafood was spectacular. The beef was particularly delicious and was probably the crowd favorite, but I enjoyed it all. The owners are super nice and courteous, and even provide guests with free ice cream bars to enjoy at the end of the meals. Definitely come here and check this place out! read more

5/5 does not even begin to express my absolute love for this establishment. The hospitality alone was amazing. I seriously felt right at home and sadly did not want my experience to end. We did the Korean BBQ with the thin marinated beef and pork belly. While you are waiting, they serve small side dishes such as tofu, bean sprouts, cucumbers, and kimchi. Once you nibble on these morsels, you know you are in for a treat. The marinated beef was unbelievable. Next visit, I would choose beef as it was so amazing. Pork belly was good but beef was far superior in flavor. They bring white rice and lettuce wraps to enjoy with your entree. What a nice night out. We randomly tried this spot as another restaurant we planned on going to is closed on Tuesday's! A quick search on yelp we found this gem due to the great reviews. There is a lot to say here, first it seems like a small family run business but the decor is sooo artsy and quirky and it made us smile. Seems like more to the story as the art, humor and care follows through to its service and how inviting they are to customers. Now the food, the hot pot bi bim bop was the best I have ever had. The portion for me was just right, enough to get full but not overly full. We also got Galbi and Pork Belly for the grill. For us it was well portioned and the taste was great. My favorite Korean BBQ in the Chicagoland area. I've been a couple times now and can't find fault with anything I have experienced here. The people here are great, the menu is excellent and you won't leave hungry. The spice level is perfect. The banchan is great. I like the tofu in chili, the kimchee and the cucumbers. The first time we came we ordered the bbq feast for 2 that included surf and turf. It was a mountain of food but we were really hungry and almost ate all of it. They even brought out a delicious wonton soup starter. Everything was so delicious we just couldn't stop eating it. This week we ordered pork belly and spicy chicken. I would pass on the pork belly. It was supposed to have sesame and salt but I didn't detect any, it was tough and had some bones. I think there are better choices. We also ordered some kimchee chigae and it was one of the best versions I have ever had. Saying a lot since I have ordered this coast to coast. It contained pork dumplings. Terrific. I love that they brought us ice cream bars for dessert. I wish I lived closer. I would be here weekly. read more

Because of the pandemic, we haven't been here for like a year...so glad dine-in reopened recently and Chung Kiwa didn't miss a beat! Not only they took our temperature but they also noted it down, including our toddlers'. We also had to leave contact info for contact tracing. I am totally all for these safe practice! Just had a late lunch , early dinner and was not disappointed. The food and service again was amazing. We had the Bul go ki and the Sam Kyup Sal. We prepared the meats ourselves and both were extremely tender. The marinades were perfect, not too spicy or salty. The portions were plentiful and was more than enough for 3. We did order rice, but I liked the meats in a lettuce wrap. Of course, the egg drop soup and appetizers were included. Our meal ended with a refreshing Klondike Bar on a warm afternoon. I did want to say we felt very safe eating in the restaurant. We had our temperatures taken when we entered, hand gel was provided and masks were worn. My family loves this place, and we decided to celebrate Father's day this year because they hadn't been back in a while. It was unfortunate that they were out of kalbi at such an early time, but they definitely accommodated for that. We instead ordered the bulgogi and LA kalbi - I still much prefer the normal kalbi cuts, but everything was so tender and juicy. The banchan (side dishes) were plentiful, fresh, and handmade by the chef. The kimchi was excellent. The owner is so generous and made sure we got to try their yook hwe (raw marinated beef appetizer), which was a delicious and fresh Korean version of steak tartare. He also gave us a nice tofu salad and wine! We were treated so well throughout the meal and enjoyed every last bite. The service here is excellent. They routinely checked on us if our food was good and if we need more banchan. They had 2 staff checking on the entire restaurant but were very polite and kind. No attitude whatsoever even though they were busy. The food: we ordered Doenjang Jigae , Hot Stone Bi Bim Bap and Wonton and again the food was good but the Doenjang Jigae blew our minds. We live in west Glenview and we have plenty of Korean options in our neighborhood so we do know good Korean food. I would drive here everyday just to eat that Doenjang Jigae again.
