Hongdae is located in back area of Randhurst Village, near Mr Kimchee and the AMC Theatre. As of 2026, they have a Happy Hour from 4-6PM with 50% appetizers and drinks. We got there just in time and ordered a few appetizers, like the tuna tar-tare, edamame, and truffle tuna. The appetizers were on point. For our entrees, we got the beef bulgogi bento box, and the chicken karaage bento box. The bento box offered several things including salad, California rolls, potato croquette, and the main dish. Unfortunately, we were not fans of the bento box. The bulgogi was extremely dry, and pretty much sauce less, and the chicken karaage was dry as well. The sauce was very rich. I really liked the vibe of this place! It was upbeat and lively. The decor was bright, bold and colorful. However, the greenery woven into the surrounding decor helped balance the vibrant visuals with a calmer organic feel. The service was great. The host was welcoming and responsive. Everything was really good here! I came during their grand opening special where they're doing 50% off all sushi rolls and it's such a good deal. My favorites were the Veggie Caterpillar, Veggie Tempura, and the Crazy Girl roll (no spicy tuna, add sweet potato). The rolls were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We visited Hongdae KBBQ for a my friend's birthday celebration, and the staff did a great job pacing the meal so that the cake arrived at the perfect time. Our waiter seemed a little inexperienced and overwhelmed, but he was very kind, good luck to him! I tried the chicken wings, which were a bit chewy and bland but overall fine. Our group really enjoyed dinner at Hongdae. Everyone loved it, both Korean and non-Korean. The ambiance and food totally exceeded our expectations. We ordered a bunch of dishes, and the tteokbokki skewers were hands down our favorite. Not too spicy, chewy with a crispy edge, SO good! The bibimbop was fantastic. I liked that they used kale instead of spinach, it gave it a fresh twist and it was served in a stone bowl. The LA short rib ssam was a crowd favorite as always, and the mackerel was cooked really well. I personally wish the pork belly ssam was more soft than crispy, but it was still tasty. Even the kids gobbled up their food. They refilled the sides, which we appreciated. My only feedback is the white rice should be filled to the brim. We also tried a few Korean beers, and the pear one stood out. Light, refreshing, and perfect with the food. For the amount and quality of food we got, I thought the price was totally reasonable. Wow! Pleasantly surprised at this new addition Korean restaurant in Mt Prospect. It was date night and we decided to check it out before catching a movie at AMC right next door. We started with some Soju and Cass beer. They do the Soju bombs here which were fun. For apps we tried the Kimchi Dumpling and steamed egg. The Kimchi Dumpling were out of this world. I'd highly recommend them. The steamed eggs were a huge portion. If I had to guess it was at least 6 eggs. For our entrees I had the bulgogi. The portion was great for $21 and it tasted wonderful. My wife had the seafood pasta. She really enjoyed it. We also had the please of meeting to owner Sato. She was very nice & our server was on top of her game. Made a pit stop here before heading over to my dinner reservation. Inside is quite huge and loving the vibes. The staff were nice and the restaurant itself was clean. There is parking outside but the spots are filled. Good thing there are other parking lots where you can park at with a bit of walking. I was here for takeout, but the staff was friendly, the restaurant was modern and clean, and my food was ready when I arrived. Presentation was very nice, especially considering it was takeout. Quality utensils were provided. The sushi was pretty good. The rice was properly seasoned, and the ingredients were fresh. The pricing is good but I realized the current pricing is 50% off. As an absolute sushi fiend, nothing catches my eye more than a brand-new sushi place AND a damn good deal. Hongdae Sushi recently opened and is a sister restaurant to the well known Mr. Kimchi just across the street. However, it seems that Hongdae has been open for quite some time, but now under new management. My partner and I were super excited about trying new rolls and at a 50% discount. Looking through their menu, there are so many rolls and at various price points to match whatever you are feeling that night! While we did end up choosing ones we wouldn't normally, I would be a bit worried about some of these rolls once the discount comes off. Since we came for sushi, we ordered 5 rolls, but did note their large menu of grill and bbq items as well. However, I cannot state enough just how amazing the quality of the fish was for their sushi. The only complaint I have for their sushi is that the pieces were a bit unevenly cut between each roll and the plate it came on, which was sat on a rack, could be easily knocked over or cause problems. Despite all of that, for 5 rolls, tax, and tip the entire price was just under $60, making this a very worthwhile and amazing dinner. There are still some slight kinks in Hongdae's service and ambience, but their sushi very much makes up for it. As they continue along, I am hopeful they will smooth out their operations. I am also hopeful that they continue that discount, as some of those rolls were an upwards of $30 without it! read more

Sato does it again. My wife and I were a little bummed that Hongdae rebranded, but turns out we had nothing to worry about. The vibe is slightly different, no more KPop videos on projector screens, but the decor stayed the same. Still very bright and welcoming. Service was great. Sato greeted us at the door and had us seated at the same booth that we were the last time. Our waitress was really good too. She answered all of our questions and was attentive to us the whole time. She also recommended the Kimchi fries. I think it will be my go to order whenever I go back. Sooo good. There is parking up front but sometimes it can fill up quickly. The owner is SO nice. Very welcoming & the service here is 10/10. The food was great too! Great food and excellent service at this new Korean "bbq" and bar in Randhurst!! We visited as a family (wife, 7 yo, 2.5yo, myself) on Valentine's Day for dinner. I called and made a reservation a few days before and the message that I received to confirm was so kind, and welcoming: "I will prepare the brightest spot for you, along with the chair you requested for your child. See you soon!" The restaurant is beautiful and clean and while the decor and lighting may lean more towards a date night spot, it worked really well for my Korean-food loving family. I had the old fashioned to start while my wife had the coconut mojito. Both were tasty but we agreed both were a little sugar/sweet forward. To eat we got the truffle fries, bulgogi tacos, LA short ribs, and spicy pork. All were excellent and the accompanying sides/banchan were all tasty and balanced all the flavors of the meat. Now, I put the "bbq" in quotes because while the restaurant tables seemed to be setup for on table grilling, all the dishes were cooked in the back. Had I been grilling the meats I would have left a few of the pcs on little longer because I like them a little more on the crispy side. But don't get me wrong the meats were of good quality and the marinades and flavors were all very delicious. I had the honey, ginger tea to finish and while I thought $6 was expensive, this was no ordinary hot cup of water with a tea bag. It was a warm, spicy, sweet home made concoction that hit the spot on a cold February evening. The mochi dessert was a great way to end the meal. Our waitress was so responsive and the manager checked in on us multiple times. She was attentive to our kids and gave them stickers and candy! Overall, definitely worth checking out. Couple of pcs of feedback would be watch the sweetness on the cocktails, and maybe ask the guest if they have a preference of cook on the meat. L.A. short ribs were good (but piled with onions to make it look like a lot). Kimchi cold noodles were just okay. Seafood pancake was bad.. pretty much no seafood and all bell pepper. Pork belly ssam was bad.. Pork belly was so tough and chewy. You need the ssamjang with it cause it is bland and it is piled with lettuce to give you less meat. You pay $2 for ssam: 4 pieces of lettuce and a few extra small portions of banchan.. not worth it at all where some Korean restaurants you can just keep getting banchan refill for free and free lettuce. Don't get me started on the service.. the place was dead but it took a long time to get a table - already bad start. There were so many servers walking around but none attending to our table after our food came. Our pork belly was brought out without the ssam. By the time I could get our servers attention that we were missing the ssam portion our pork belly was cold. Considering this place is next to Mr. Kimchi.. there's no competition for Mr. Kimchi. This is a Pocha and it's not even open as late and does not have the vibes of a Pocha/bar. Overall, overpriced for the portions and quality. read more

I've been appalled at the trend of eliminating the fried egg on top at so many other Korean places where we dine, but Hongdae still does it right. Prompt and friendly service, really upscale appearance, but not upscale prices! My wife had a similar opinion of her chap-chae. Both dishes had thin-sliced, nicely marinated and tender beef, as is proper for both dishes. Definitely worth a try if you want authentic Korean. Love love love this new place!!! We NEED more restaurants like these, Korean, Filipino, Taiwanese.... This is a true Korean restaurant - all of the great soups and stews, galbijim, and probably the best pajeon I have ever had in the United States. Keep in mind, this is NOT a KBBQ; the burner on the table is for the soup. BUT, the BBQ meats that they cook for you are delicious....just not AYCE. Eating here is like being in Korea....and I've never been to Korea (which is saying something). I can't say enough great things about Hongdae!! The service - excellent. The manager - also excellent. The owner - the most excellent. I have a hard time writing this because I know that lots of people will go, making it hard for me to get a table. But I want them to be so popular they have to expand. Being able to see our sushi getting made added a special touch to our night. The place itself was very clean and had good music playing. Overall a great experience!
