My friend and I went here for lunch because our other friend & his mom frequents this place. He told us to get the pajeon and that basically everything is delicious. The pajeon was perfectly crispy on the outside and FILLED with topping. There's so much squid/octopus, onions, and bell peppers (which is a first for me). The dough itself is also seasoned so I didn't really need to dip it in the sauce. I got the kalguksu. The noodles are certainly hand made because you can tell by the way It's curled up when it's cooked. It's also a speckled noodle, which I'm not exactly sure what type of flour is used. It's certainly something new for me. There's sooo much seafood in it too. The clams/mussels are small, but there's a lot of it in there. The broth is light. It's not the best kalguksu I've had yet, but it's not terrible. My friend got the bibimmyeon. It's a cold noodle dish, which neither of us ever tried before. It always looked really good to me though. I tried some it's pretty good. The sauce is not too spicy but it's a good lingering spice. He gave me a decent to try and he was eating a good amount and he couldn't even finish. The portions are a lot too! As for the banchan, I was super excited to see acorn jelly. Ive actually never tried it. We liked it! It's lightly seasoned, and the jelly itself is light. It's a good palate cleanser imo. The broccoli and sausage banchan was really good too. The broccoli is cooked to where it's not too soft and still crunchy. It's lightly seasoned too. I liked it haha as for the rest of the typical banchans, all were very well seasoned. It's been quite sometime since we've been here. We ordered the two we always order-- seolleongtang and bibimbap. But we made a mistake ordering mandu. Their mandu is not bad by any means, it's just it's so super authentic I think because they used pickled napa so it's a bit sour. Takes a bit to get used to. The dipping sauce is good though, cuz the sourness. All the banchan are good, also such a wide variety too. read more

What a nice, family owned place with a cozy dining room, good service, and really good food. Our group ordered a variety of entrees and pajun seafood pancake as an appetizer. They were really attentive throughout the entire time that we were there. - We really really loved the side dishes and we were so nervous to ask for more but they gave us extra because they saw how much we liked it. And as starving college students, that means the whole world. Food: - We got their Gamjatang (Spicy Pork Bone Soup) for both of us and honestly, the serving was more than enough. We didn't expect to both feel full but there was so much meat in combination with the veggies and rice and we were both beyond satisfied. - Broth was really rich and there was such a deep flavor with every bite. We drank the entire thing until there was nothing left. - Side dishes were not just sides in this meal. I loved that there was such a large variety of options that were offered. Our favorites were the pickled seaweeds (I swear its the best that I have ever had) and the Kimchi radish. Ambiance: - This spot is tucked away in the suburbs and it feels just like that. This cute little spot is hiding behind a gigantic Chinese restaurant. My friend mentioned this spot to me and we decided to give it a try over the weekend. The menu had plenty of options including multiple ways to cook Saba (mackerel). They had multiple soups and stews along with the usual bulgogi. I wanted to try everything but I ended up settling for the octopus, grilled mackerel, bulgogi, tofu stew and steamed dumpling. Everything was delicious! The service was good and they constantly stopped by to check on us. I've been craving seolleongtang (ox bone soup), and when I tried to go on Labor Day, they were closed. They close on Sundays and Mondays. I went to try again on Saturday, and it hit the spot! They have a big sign on the street, but it's a little old, so it's easy to miss. This place is a bit hidden inside a quiet plaza. There used to be a Chinese restaurant next to them, but I guess it's closed, and another Korean restaurant is opening up. They serve your soup dish with six delicious side dishes. I got their Dogani Seolleontang which is ox bone soup with beef tendon. I was never a huge fan of beef tendons before, but as I got older, I started loving it. They serve it with wasabi and soy sauce dipping, where you can dip the tendons. It's SO good! When the server saw empty side dishes, she was attentive and gave me a refill. It's so filling and delicious. If you want some delicious and authentic Korean food, I highly recommend this place! read more

As others have described, this is a homey Korean restaurant that's not too big with slightly outdated decor and somewhat compact seating. It's somewhat difficult to find behind Empire Szechwan, with little in terms of signage and parking that almost doesn't seem to belong to the restaurant. Service is alright, I wish the table had been checked on a little more often, but it wasn't too bad. The food is a mixed experience for me. The prices are low and the variety is good, but I didn't think it was anything special compared to the wide variety of Korean restaurants available nearby. The cooking is definitely on the healthier side, but reminds me more of elevated home cooking more than restaurant style food. I didn't get the same level of sophistication or flavor as I can get from other local options. The soondubu was spicy with plenty of tofu, but doesn't have the same depth of flavor as SGD. The bibimbop was very light, but I prefer versions from Hakuya or Golden Durebak more. The gal bi tang lacked tenderness in the short rib, though the broth was quite flavorful from the onions and radish. The seol lung tang was very bland, there was a light creaminess from the ox bones but otherwise all the other elements hardly made an impact on the flavor. The banchan overall was fairly good -- with the fruit salad and fish cakes being the standout items for me. Overall, an alright choice if you're looking for low prices and large portions and are specifically seeking soups, noodles, and porridge. Good if you're trying to eat healthier but not my first choice personally. read more

This place is legit Koren food that doesn't hold back on the flavor or spice. The ban chan were delicious, I got the chap chae because I wasn't in a spicy mood, but my partner got something with noodles and octopus that was delightfully hot. The kind of food that reminds me that while I have OK spicy tolerance for someone living in Iowa, there's people out there who can tolerate waaay more spice than me. Well it was good traditional Korean food but the reason the 3 stars is because of the location is very hidden and difficult to find. Even with GPS. It's next to a Chinese restaurant which I'm not sure is open or closed but you have to drive further into the plaza. The pictures from previous yelpers it looks like it's a big place when you walk in but it's really small. I would come back for the food but I was expecting a much bigger Korean restaurant. Otherwise, there was one in Niles that I was going to consider called Tang but then again, I don't know if that's also another small Korean restaurant. Food here is good. Seems like the menu is limited but they have all the traditional Korean dishes such as Bim Bee Bop, Bulgogi and the Spicy Squid or Octopus next to traditional kimchi side dishes or appetizer dishes they give. We also ordered the steam dumplings which was also delicious. I was with a friend discussing our problems so he took my word of trying to find a Korean restaurant away from Chicago and of course around Northbrook Niles the northern suburbs have the better if not best Korean restaurants in the Chicago suburbs. The total should've been ~$28 but we were charged ~$31, so we didn't leave a tip because we thought that they just included the tip in the total price. We get up and leave, we get in the car, haven't even turned on the car when the owner runs out with the receipt. We thought that maybe there was something wrong with the payment but she actually ran out and asked for a tip!!! We were shocked and embarrassed.. we gave her a $5 bill and she left.
