My first time at Claypot and it definitely will not be my last. Their soup is super hearty, delicious and comes in a bigger pot than expected. The taste is clean. Perfect go to spot for yummy soup especially when you are feeling soupy or need a pick me up when you are not feeling too good. #5 wang galbitang is a classic soup that comes with massive beef ribs that are tender. #7 soondubu were okay to me. It is a lighter and cleaner version compared to SGD. This will be one of my soup spots in the future. Their service is friendly and the food came out hot!
1. Woogeoji Wang Galbitang 우거지 왕갈비탕 - Spicy Woogeoji Mixture w/ Ribs 2. Special Yangji Seolleongtang - Yangji w/ a Double Portion of Meat 3. Black Goat Soup 흑염소탕 - Braised Goat with Perilla Leaves, Perilla Seed Powder, Chives, Woogeoji 4. Woogeoji Seolleongtang 우거지 설렁탕 - Spicy Ox Bone Broth with Brisket, Shank, and Napa Greens Great broth flavor across the different kinds we got^. The non spicy seolleongtang is the most mild and black goat soup has the strongest flavor profile; all good and up to you what you're craving. Spicy soups need to be spicier. My ribs were tender and fall off the bone. If you have a big stomach, this isn't the most satiating Korean dish for the price but at least it's perfectly executed. Service was good. Good amount of seating inside.
super super friendly service, a great little spot in what i heard is the koreatown of chicago. now that it's gotten colder, Seolleongtang was the perfect dish to indulge in. the broth was super tasty and hearty! the woogeoji wang galbitang was also delicious! and was absolutely overflowing with meaty bones, we even had leftover to take home. a highlight of our meal was the squid cakes! we got this as an app and it was so yummy and crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, filled with yummy squid flavor. i've had other korean pancakes but this was different in its little dense cake form and was a great addition to the seollangtang.
Had a great meal here on a weekend evening. The place was not busy when we first arrived but as the evening went on more tables did fill up. The menu specializes in seolleongtong. We ordereda modeum seolleongtong, Wang galbitang and a beef bulgogi hot pot. Each order comes with a bowl of rice and side dishes to share at the table- kimchi, radish and onions/jalapeno. The soups were all really good. For the seolleongtong you have to add some salt to the dish that is left table side. The wang galbitang- you get 3 large beef ribs and there is plenty of meat on them. The bulgogi hot pot was nice too with lots of different stuff in the pot. The service is great with the staff very attentive. And at the end of your meal you are given a small probiotic drink.
This spot is a real hidden treasure! We dropped by one night when we were out late in the burbs (they close at 11pm). Wasn't really expecting much, but was very pleasantly surprised. The food was spectacular and quite authentic, I have been to Korea many times and the dishes here were superb in comparison. The service was fast and friendly, and the prices are reasonable. They also have a nice Korean beer and soju selection. Highly recommend!
I haven't been to Claypot in years. I didn't love it back then when they opened (thought the soup was mid and overpriced), so I just never went back. I recently went again with my friends who are regulars and had a very pleasant time. We ordered tteok galbi, squid cake, two ttukgejang (spicy beef broth), and modeum suyuk with extra tendon, plus Korean beer and soju. My friends always say the food here is perfect with drinks, and I get it now. The broth is refreshing and makes it so easy to drink with your meal. Everything was solid, but my favorite was the ttukgejang. Deep flavor, fresh ingredients, and the kimchi + kkakdugi sides were SO GOOD. When a Korean spot has good sides, you can assume the mains are gonna be good too. The tendon in the suyuk was great and super tender, but I personally like mine a little chewier. Both appetizers were tasty. I still need to go back and try their ox bone soup since that's what they're known for. Service was awesome, and they even gave us fried dumplings on the house (my friend's a regular and it was her birthday). Perfect spot for a chilly day. Definitely going back for the ox bone soup and the giant beef rib broth with ribs!
Cute home style Korean soup restaurant! I wanted to try their ox bone soup but my bf wanted the giant beef ribs so we ended up getting the Galbi tang. The meat was so soft and good amount of flavor. I used the scissors to cut the meat into small pieces in the soup. I wish there was more veggies in the soup. The ox bone soup had an option with Napa but not the beef rib soup. The bossam was really good! The meat wasn't too fatty. The raw oyster was fresh and tangy. I used the scissors to cut them smaller. Could use more raw garlic slices. The samjang was tasty. I wish they included lettuce for wraps. Overall the meats were great. Flavors are solid. Could use more veggies. Maybe I need to get them a la cart. Would love to come back for the ox bone soup. The banchan is radish cubes, kimchi and soy sauce jalapeños. I would have preferred cucumber or bean sprouts over Jalapeños but the radish and kimichi were good. They're generous with refills.
I immediately came here when I knew winter was coming. It was super cold and rainy on the day I came which means soup season is finally here. I ordered my usual beef ribs soup, and this place never disappoints me. I love it when they give scissors to make it easier to cut the meat off the bones. I love it that the soup is so simple yet so flavorful. I took my friends here and they loved it a lot. My friend said that she's going to add this to her to go to soup place list because it's just so good. The service is always very top notch here and they're always checking up on you to make sure everything is OK. The place is very spacious and they have seats for all types of groups whether you're going in pairs or party of 10. My partner got his usual beef, Bulgogi hot pot and he loves it because it's more on the sweeter side than savory. I can't wait to come back more often as we actually enter winter in Chicago.
Claypot really hit the spot! The restaurant was clean, bright and aromatic. The smell of flavorful broth simmering permeated the room. We were pleased with our choices on a cold Fall evening. The beef ribs were tender but not quite fall off the bone. I liked that kitchen shears were provided along with utensils. The broth was rich and flavorful without being overly salty. One order was very filling. The tendon mixed with chives, onions, jalapeños was very tasty. It was not overly spicy-- but definitely had some heat to every bite. The texture was a great combination of the soft gelatinous tendons with the fibrous crunch of the chives and onions. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive. The marathon race bibs and medals wall decor stood out to me due to the sheer number of them! It made the ambiance feel casual, really informal and laid back. I liked that it felt relaxed while enjoying our meal!
My friend is a fan of seolleongtang, ox bone soup, and wanted to try this place. Locally owned place, the parking lot was crowded as well as in the back of the building (by the laundromat). It was crowded inside as well, with many groups and families dining. We weren't sure if we were supposed to go up to the counter to order so we waited and a server came to take our order. My friend ordered the yangji seolleongtang and I tried the galbi marinated pork. We enjoyed the pickled radish. It did take a long time for our dishes to come out, although it was worth it. My friend raved about the soup, and claimed it made them feel better. My sizzling dish was very tasty and a very generous portion -- I ended taking leftovers home. Will come back to try the soup.
Great spot for affordable seolleongtang, galbi tang, and more. I don't know if the broth is the best in the area, but it satisfies the craving! The kimchi is pretty good too. The bossam with kimchi and oysters is surprisingly delicious even though it's not the specialty. They give a yogurt drink at the end, which is a nice surprise. I feel like a lot of restaurants have stopped doing this because of costs. It's located next to/behind Hmart. Parking can be limited at times, but it's very convenient if you want to grab a warm meal before grocery shopping.
Claypot was exactly what I was craving. I ordered the Seolleongtang (Korean beef bone broth soup), which came with tender beef shank and brisket in a rich, milky-white broth. I loved that you can customize the seasoning yourself with the provided salt and green onions, allowing you to get the flavor just right. The soup was incredibly comforting and flavorful without being overly fatty or greasy. The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the generous portion came with rice and delicious kimchi on the side. Service was friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. Everything on the menu looked amazing, and I'll definitely be back to try the beef ribs next time. I have been coming to this place for awhile now and im afraid to order their spicy stuff because i was afraid that it will be too spicy, unfortunately if itw not spicy some soups are a bit bland. But i finally discovered my go to and it was soooo good. Yea it is spicy but its just the perfect hint of spicy. We also ordered their squid cake and dumplings and everything tasted perfect. Service is always great! Place is always clean and great place to hang out. Will definitely come back for morr especially now that i have my go to soup! read more
Very casual and friendly Korean spot serving hearty, comforting soup dishes. Perfect for a rainy or cold day in Chi-town when you're craving something warm. Probably not a destination restaurant, but definitely worth a stop if you're in the neighborhood. read more

One of my favorite Korean dishes is seolleongtang so when I found out there was a restaurant that featured korean soups, I was super ecstatic. There were lots of seating inside - very neat and clean. I took my mom with me for lunch and we got the yangji seolleongtang and the wang galbitang. Both soups were very flavorful - they reminded me of the ones I had in Seoul. The banchans were delicious too. The staff was very friendly and everything came out very quickly as well. I would love to come for dinner because there were definitely lots of other items on the menu that I wanted to try so I will definitely be coming back. read more

We were a bit hesitated to try the Korean food here, and today at the dinner time we decided to try Claypot. It did not disappoint. Unlike the pokers face employees in OC Korean restaurants, the owner here was very friendly. We saw smiles and welcomed into the restaurant. And we were not judged by our race ( not Korean). Seolleongtang can be compared to my favorite Seolleongtang place in LA : Han Bat Sul Lung Tang. I am giving a solid 9/10 read more
Claypot is soul-giving Korean comfort food at its finest. You can taste the authentic homemade goodness of the bone broth and tender meat. And the kimchi is unparalleled (they sell by itself to go!) The usage of somen vs glass noodles is a nice, heartier touch. And I appreciate that we can salt-to-taste which is great for the kiddos. The soup-making process is incredibly laborious, and it's clear no short cuts are taken. Delicious healthy option, and the food tastes clean. Pricing is appropriate for what you get. Quality is excellent, and service is consistently on point and friendly. The woman who owns this business is very kind, and we've always had great experiences here! Definitely a neighborhood staple. read more
Very clean and spread out! The restaurant's layout had a Korean food stall feel to it! The food was amazing! The black goat soup, beef rib soup, and their appetizer squid cake were all tasty! The portions were a decent amount. Their side dishes were tasty and went well with the soups! The service was a bit on the slow side. There was only one person who was doing multiple things by himself. He was serving food, seating people at their tables, getting orders, giving people their bills, refilling water, and receiving phone orders. He was doing a lot and it was quite busy, so it was a lot of flagging him down or going up to the counter to get things. Other than that, the food was amazing! read more
Claypot is a Korean restaurant specializing in ox bone soup, something particularly great in the winter or when you're not feeling your best. The broth is delicious and you can dump rice into it to make it a rice porridge. Worth the trip out to the suburbs. Service is very quick and courteous. You get started off with a little bit of bonchon, kimchi . People tend to come in groups and sit eating and conversing . I enjoyed the simplicity . Very popular during lunchtime . read more

Excellent authentic Korean food! Quality- I was impressed by both the dishes I got here. The gamchatang had some nice flavorful broth and the meat was perfectly cooked. It fell off the bone and went well with the soup. The pork belly and oyster went well with the jalapeño and the garlic. I enjoyed making perfect bites every time. If you're looking for a hearty, good bone broth soup in Wheeling, Chicago, this is the place! Their serving sizes are good, the king galbitang comes with 3 good sized rib pieces. Because it's a bone broth soup, usually appears a milky white, but this was pretty clear yet still rich in flavor. All of the side dishes, especially the kimchi and radish kimchi. You know a Korean soup place is good if their kimchi is good. read more
Solid spot for authentic Korean beef soups! Their clear broths shine - try the selleongtang (ox bone) or galbitang (beef rib). These traditional soups hit the spot and taste just like they should. However, steer clear of the Woogeoji galbitang. Its red/orange color is a giveaway - it's not authentic and has an overpowering gochujang (red pepper paste) flavor. Stick to the clear broths for the best experience at this decent Korean soup place. read more

Totally overrated place. Their man restroom has no paper towel or hand dryer also toilet paper wasn't in the holder. They have no AC just with some fans blowing from the ground i hope there was no dust on the floor. I ordered wang kalbitang and it wasn't taste that deep broth, just watery soup, ribs were taste good. It's so hard to find authentic Galbitang in Chicago except from Joong Boo market. read more

Our 2nd time visit. Come for the soup. But this time we try to get something different so we try the Bbq beef ribs was a bad decision. $33/order gives us all bones and taste horrible! I could understand half bones half meat mixed together but most of them are bones!! The service is great after we complaint about the ribs full of bones they offer me other new ribs without charging us extra. But also the flavor of those rib you can tell they had frozen and precooked in bags they are definitely not make in the house!That recall me something like Trader joes frozen Korean BBQ beef ribs and they are taste better than here's read more

I have been wanting to check out this place for some sullungtang. Parking: The parking lot is on the smaller end but there should be parking The menu is limited so make sure to check before you go especially if you aren't in the mood for sullungtang. The food comes out fairly fast and the banchan compliments the sullungtang. Perfect for a cold day! read more

I've been looking for delicious soups, especially in the cold Chicago weather. Based on a friend's recommendation, I made a special trip, driving 40 minutes to try the soup at this restaurant. The No. 5 soup has a rich and flavorful broth, with beef bones stewed to perfection. Their kimchi is also excellent--I've tried many Korean restaurants, and their spicy cabbage is definitely among the best. If I have the chance, I will definitely come back. The restaurant is also clean and well-maintained, and the staff is very friendly. read more
Seolleongtang is the thing to try, when it comes to Korean food. Not a lot of places offer this, as making Seolleongtang takes many hours of preparing, boiling and cooking them pork bones to perfection. What you get as an end result is this light creamy broth that is jam packed full of flavor, and is a delight to consume, on a cold Chicago day. This place is legit, as the clientele is mostly Koreans, or at least that's my barometer. I've been here twice and the experience is always great. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. We non-Koreans have questions and the staff is so friendly in helping. When I finally decided to order the modeum seolleongtang, dogani seolleongtang, and the modeum soyuk, without asking, the staff said "to be honest, the modeum seolleongtang and modeum soyuk are the same. Are you sure?" Talk about service! Awesome feedback. The modeum soyuk was great. It had braised beef with napa, chives Brisket, Chuck, Shank, Tongue, and Tendon. The tongue was tongue-lapping good. The dogani seollegontang was also good. It had Ox bone broth with tendon and glass noodles. I love me some glass noodles. The seolleongtang came with lots of green onions. Just sprinkle some salt, pepper, and throw in some rice, and you got yourself a hearty warm meal. Righteous. All-in-all, a great place, and I left feeling full. BATHROOM REVIEW: Located near the kitchen, the mens bathroom consisted of a urinal and toilet. Urinal flushed well, I didn't try to the toilet. Maybe next time. The hand dryer was phenomenal, and it wasn't even a Dyson. One of the best hand dryer I ever experienced; my hands left there feeling warm and dry. Sit or squat? Squat. read more
This might be our go to now for seolluntang and galbitang! The flavors are light and you can season to taste with the salt on the table. The seolluntang was delightful, perfectly balanced and flavorful. It's pretty big inside, at least much bigger than it looks on the outside. I would guess there are maybe 10 tables? We came around 11:10 and were the only people inside, but within 30 min the restaurant started to fill up! I can see parking getting tight though there's parking around the back too where the laundromat is. If you ever get desperate, you can also park at the Hmart next door and walk over. read more

The interior is cute giving kdrama cafe vibes. However the seating is a little dated. There is a small parking lot for the plaza. The server is very attentive and friendly, and made some good suggestions for the first timer. The special seulungtang was filled with meat but more importantly the soup was delicious. Summer menu is available with seasonal noodle dishes. The bean noodle dish was a very thick but easily watered down with more ice cubes. Will definitely come back to try more of their other dishes! read more

The restaurant is such a cozy place. It feels like your going to your grandparents house. The service was good and helpful! The food makes you feel warm and cozy on the inside. I can't wait to go back here again especially on cold days! read more
