This came with a side of black beans and rice. I didn't eat the taco shell but loved the filling. I also tried the brisket taco. Filled with cheese, sour cream and the house BBQ sauce. - loved it. I ordered a small side of guacamole to pile on top of this goodness. The mango salsa is sweet but not too sweet and mixed with the cabbage added a nice crunch. This cute little spot next door to the OIB airfield is worth checking out for the delicious made to order foodstuffs and exemplary service. Also adjacent to the Chunky Buddha, there's plentiful outdoor seating in good weather, and a cozy interior dining area. The chips and salsa and queso were a perfect start to a fabulous lunch. I heartily recommend the Lil ACP (arroz con pollo). It's a wonderful combination of expertly seasoned chicken, roasted corn and cheese over rice and it's one of my all time favorite comfort foods. The mole chicken was one of the best I've come across and it was clear the chef took pride in what they were doing. The Birria Ramen was a unique and delicious addition. We have eaten here several times over two trips. We love everything we have tried. I actually wanted to have dinner there on my birthday because they make my favorite grilled cheese, so I planned a trip and ate there for my birthday dinner. The interior is artsy and fun. I like the art on the walls and it's cozy inside. It is small, but I don't like crowds and I was comfortable. But the food! Amazing. My daughter inhaled a giant veggie burrito. I had anticipated writing a more positive review based on their current postings on social media, which always have a fresh look. I understand this place is somewhat new (props for launching during a pandemic!) and today (2/22/22) was their "grand opening". However, as a business, it's been in operation for almost 2 years now, starting first as a pop-up and now having a brick and mortar place next to the OIB airport. There are 5-6 tables inside, centered around a TV on the wall. The waiter/cashier/order-taker seemed apathetic when this customer walked in. It was obvious he didn't want to be there (which he confirmed when I asked). Evidently they have volunteers doing the work according to the signage for tips, and when I asked about it, he said they worked in the kitchen (?). Maybe this is a smarty way to say the owner, or maybe her friends are helping out, I dunno. The whole vibe had me consider leaving before I ordered. I ordered chicken quesadilla and it was brought out by the owner herself. The filling was somewhat sweet, the pico was more like salsa (mostly sauce) and the tortilla was definitely overdone in places. The portion size was generous. read more

This hole in the wall is located next to Chubby Buddha Bar. There is no sign at the moment so it might be hard to find. They have a shared parking lot. You can also order their food from Chubby Buddha Bar and sit at one of their outdoor tables. There are some indoor tables inside with one TV. They had some specials available and limited amount of tamales. You wouldn't know they had tamales available unless you ask or look on their Facebook. The food was overpriced, but maybe that's because of the area. We tried the Birria tacos (5/5), Gringo (ground beef) tacos (3/5), and Kitchen Sink (chose chicken) burrito (2/5). I tried a couple bites of my father in law's Birria tacos. They were crispy, the shredded beef was flavorful, and the cheese was melted. The consomme I dipped the tacos in was flavorful. The tacos came with rice and beans, which were okay, rice was a little soggy. The ground beef tacos were American style soft shell tacos, with chopped tomatoes, and shredded lettuce, cheese, sour cream. I was surprised the chicken in the chicken burrito was very sweet, which I did not like. For a burrito called "Kitchen Sink", I was expecting much more than just rice and beans inside. At least it was topped with more variety- avocado slices, a small amount of fresh salsa, and grated cotija cheese. It was also served with tortilla chips and store-bought salsa. You would think given their name, all of the salsa should be fresh. The staff were pleasant. If I ever ate here again, I would just get the Birria tacos. read more

We went to this restaurant on August 23rd 2024 after a day out at the beach. When we got there the atmosphere looked artistic and colorful, yet it was a bit of a hole in a wall with a strange dingy smell. Most Latin or Mexican style restaurants that have been tasty were like this so we were willing to over look it. We sat down and received the menus, good. Before we ordered we were asked for what drink and we said water which then we proceeded to receive each a bottle of water. Service with our waitress and I think owner was great she was very kind and attentive. She was able to kindly guide us through the convoluted menu which had pricing in some areas and didn't have pricing on other areas such as their taco section(red flag). Chips and salsa which are usually a given at such establishments had an appetizer cost but tbf it did come with some queso sauce. We ordered $4.00 fries, for our son, it was a large basket of reheated frozen fries, as clearly evident by taste. We all ordered tacos. I ordered chicken and shrimp, the rest of us had either smoked brisket taco or carne asada with corn(the special at the time). The smoked brisket was awful, it was something like smoked brisket, the quality of meat was inferior and it was clearly heated via microwave the surface of the brisket was not tender but more stringy/rubbery. Definitely not the juicy piece of southern style brisket both implied on the menu and expected from any location in North Carolina. The Carne Asada and corn special was over salted. The chicken was alright, nothing to rave about, the shrimp taco was the best. It had a mango salsa which I am not even sure how fresh the mango was... Rice and beans were fine. All of this would be maybe a 3 out of 5 for stars if it wasn't for the fact that for 2 tacos each and they were more like street tacos size, + some rice and beans it was $15.99 - $18.99 each. BUT, there was no way of really knowing, because the price wasn't on the menu. Taking this price into account, this was absolutely awful. Incredibly overpriced for poorly prepared food. I get the concept, I like the idea, I love that California food truck style taco idea but the execution was horrendous. I was expecting homemade tortillas either flour or corn(only store bought tortillas heated up). Oh and the icing on the cake was that each of those plastic bottles of water we were given, costed us $2.00 each, without us being told it would cost us. All my hope is for anyone to see my review and either STAY AWAY or go here with caution until the owner fixes these fundamental issues. Again, the service was fine and the concept is nice, but the price for both the quantity and quality is not aligned here. Good luck if ever you were accidentally dragged here. read more

Just wow. I'm a Chicano and very picky about my Latin cuisine. It feels like a hole in the wall (my comfort zone) but the food was existential. From super crispy and hot chips and fresh pico, to every type of biria. I prefer goat, but chef does this very, very well. The tacos were sublime. Crunchy corn, not because they were "hard corn tortillas ", but soft tortillas cooked on the griddle slowly until they were crispy and the meat inside bursting with flavor. Amazing food! Will be back without a doubt. We got the birria tacos which may be the best tacos I've ever had (and I've had a lot). We also got the nachos - they looked much more appetizing before the picture. I LOVE that they package the chips separately from from toppings - nothing worse than a soggy nacho. If you're looking for a nice dining experience with the family, this may not be the place for you. OK, so we ate outside, a group of 7 of us. The service was a bit slow, and we had to physically go inside to the bar to get alcohol drinks, but once the food arrived it got better. The food was better than anticipated, the wait staff brought extra chips, salsa, etc, and were attentive as we ate. Considering the size of the portions, the pricing was very reasonable. And the food was a bit of a twist on what we expected, but in a good way. They had fans running, but after it got dark and cooled down, the breeze from the fans was a bit much, and one of our guys had to adjust the direction away from our table. We recently did our annual Golf Trip in OIB and wanted to have some in-home catering so that we could relax after a long day of travel and on-course action. The folks here were easy to deal with, communicative, flexible, fair priced and delivered an awesome product. They came to the house and set everything up for us and not a bite was left amongst a very hungry group!
