Chunky's Cinema Pub opened in Manchester this week! This 10-screen cinema restaurant and bar took over the east half of the former Lowe's space just outside of the Mall of New Hampshire. Chunky's features mostly first run movies and special screening events (ie UFC) and the admission prices seem pretty reasonable $6.49 (matinees), $7.49 (Mon-Thu PM) and $8.49 (Fri-Sun). Each theatre with high ceiling has a big screen in front with ample soft leather office chairs with no arms, which have headrests and recline too, situated on each side of long tables for the food & drinks. The food menu offers the typical American pub fare, similar to what you'll find at a Friday's or Applebee's. If you don't want to see a movie, there is a full service bar in the front lobby serving beer, wine, cocktails, and the full food menu. There is a mini snack bar and also comfortable armchairs in the lobby. I've been to Chunky's other locations in Nashua, Pelham, and Haverhill MA several times with my friends. I was here this week to see Guardians of the Galaxy Part II and the place was not very busy. After buying my ticket, I was directed a podium to grab a menu and a round plastic disc, press button to light up red for wait service in the theater. I easily found a great seat in the middle of the theater and the wait staff arrived to take my order with their electronic tablets before the scheduled movie start time. Since I already ate dinner, I just ordered an appetizer High Noon Nachos ($11.49), a big plate of warm crispy tortilla chips topped with sweet tangy BBQ pulled smoked pork, Monterey Jack cheese and diced tomatoes. The nachos were pretty good and I ended up asking for a to go box. The staff worked as a team and different staff checked on me for ice water refills. I enjoyed the action packed 135 minute movie in a comfy leather office chair. And there were no long previews shown before the movie, which is annoyingly notorious at the bigger movie chains like AMC, Zyacorp, National Amusements, and Regal. For only $7.49 admission at night to see a first run movie and to have lots of pub fare and drinks to choose from at the same time, it was good night of entertainment at a bargain price! I honestly love the idea of dining while watching a movie at the movie theater. Who doesn't love to nosh while experiencing a thematic production? However, I have yet to find a theater that does this combination right, and although Chunky's tries, it misses the mark in some areas. I will start off with the positives. Chunky's is expansively large and has a nice lounge-like area with a bar for those waiting to go into their designated theater. They also have a decent selection on their menu to please anyone, and their presentation of their food is also admirable. Where Chunky's goes wrong is the fact that it takes FOREVER to get your food when you order. I get it, there are other people in theaters ordering and there must be a back log due to this demand, but there must be a way to stagger this in a fashion that promotes timely service. I also found that their waitstaff, when the food did come out, were inappropriately loud given that the movie had already started, and it was extremely distracting. I could hear the waiter 3 tables down from where I was shouting to the guests about the food and asking if they needed anything else. This happened numerous times with a variety of waitstaff. The last thing that I found to be a negative when it comes to Chunky's is the price point. First off, it was extremely expensive to get tickets to a movie. Like $15 a ticket. However, when you are adding food on top of that, overpriced food at that, it gets to be an expensive night out. It would be helpful and beneficial for these theaters to give some sort of discount when purchasing food and drinks when you have already purchased a very expensive viewing ticket. Will Chunky's succeed? I think so. However, I think if they want to keep people coming, they have a few things that they could work on. read more

Came here Friday of Lightyear movie release! We ordered supper here and I got the bacon cheeseburger. Food was pretty good nothing special but was good! Popcorn I wish you could add your own butter to as it wasn't that buttery! Service was really good though and always came right on time! I'll be coming by here again for a movie! read more

By far the best place to watch movies, especially with family and friends. My young son loves eating French fries and nuggets while watching his favorite movies. It also has the cheapest tickets you'll find. And at Chunky's, people aren't so hard on kids for not being completely pin drop silent there either, because in other theaters they think it must be a library or something. read more

I went to Chunky's Manchester last night and ordered the $19.99 teriyaki steak with mashed potatoes. However, the steak, called the Steak Out, was one of the worst steaks I've had in my life. It tasted almost expired. The texture and taste was just so gross. Additionally, despite ordering a chocolate milk and asking three different servers about it, it never arrived. The cheeseburger I ordered was also low quality. I wouldn't come back. While the movie tickets are cheaper than most theaters, the poor food quality isn't worth it. read more

My Husband and I went to Chunky's in Manchester NH. We were reluctant as we had gone to the one in Nashua years ago and were very disappointed. Overpriced terrible food overcrowded awful experience. We figured we would take another chance. Nice clean theater, wait staff were very attentive, We ordered the chili Nacho's for the 2 of us a couple adult beverages and a desert to share. The food was delicious the Nacho's filled us up. In all matinee tickets $12.98 for 2. And $37.07 plus tip for food and drink. And we had a great time. There was only 14 people seeing this movie. Please Chunky's, if you give someone popcorn, also hand them napkins. Every time I order popcorn, they drop it and run and I have to ask a couple more times for napkins. This is a nice theater but not a big fan of the seats, these are more like office chairs and my neck was dying towards the end of the movie. Smaller tables too and weird arrangement of them. We went to chunkys for the experience and prices we had heard about. Not knowing what to expect. Thursday at 6:30 pm was our show time. There were 2 people already at our table, which was a surprise to us, (didn't know we were sharing a table, as it wasn't stated anywhere we read). They wouldn't push over, gave us a very small portion of the table, the menus wouldn't even fit on. They wouldn't stop talking and alot of times their heads were in our way. People behind us kept hitting our chairs. It was loud and obnoxious in there. The chairs were very uncomfortable and too low for our liking. We got up and left before the movie started. Great location and easy access from 293 exit 1 with plenty of parking (even for large commercial vehicles and buses). This theater plays more of the older classic movies. Seats are comfortable. They just need to clean the leather seats a little more as I had to switch out my seat for another one because my seat was dirty. Eight of us went for the polar express the food came out for half of the party and we were almost done eating and the rest of the party had not gotten food. When I asked the first person said 'I have no idea' and walked away. I stopped someone in the lobby and he was very short with me saying they were bringing out food. He brushed me off when I told him no one had brought food in a while. We had the taco bowls and they were horrible. No flavor at all. My grandchildren are allergic to dairy and the event called for milk and cookies. They couldn't have them and there was no option for non dairy milk or cookies. What a horrible experience. I sat through a 3 hour movie recently. My food was delivered by a wonderful server and the food was fine. After the server came to provide me with my bill, a man in the theatre walked up to me and told me to be quite. I was alone and there were no other guests close to me. He must have then gone to management and a young man showed up and told me that I had to leave because I was too loud. ??????? I'm alone and only spoke with the waitress.....???????? Rather than create a scene I explained that the only time I spoke was when the waitress came over to my table. The waitress also came by to drop off my card and receipt while the young man was there waiting for me to leave. I guess you're guilty if someone says so and you can't prove you're inocent. The young man, who would not tell me his name, had pink hair. He then escorted me out of the building. While we were leaving, I felt uncomfortable, but tried to make small talk. I said to him, "I really like your pink converse sneakers." He said to me, 'Oh, you're one of them!" I don't even know what that meant, but I have to say that if this is the way your company treats guests, it's way out of line and totally disrespectful! On the other hand, my son and his friend have had some scary encounters with some of the teenager waiters they have had. The last visit they went to see a movie, like teenage kids do, their waiter threatened them making sure they had enough money. Bought tickets online for a 7pm show. Arrived at 6:30pm and was told theater wasn't open yet. Asked when it would be. Answer "I wouldn't have any idea." As the ticket-taker, isn't that your job? Who should I ask? Perhaps the bartender knows? Finally were seated 10 minutes before show started. Orders put in as show began. Drinks arrived 45 minutes later. Food arrived 45 minutes after that. No drink refills provided but we were charged for them. Burgers were dry and overcooked. No toilet paper in the dirty restrooms. Don't waste your time coming to this location. Last time I came here, I ordered a burger. The burger was dry and the bacon on it wasn't fully cooked. Was very disappointed. The price is high and the food is not worth what they charge. If I go again the only thing I would order is nachos cause they were pretty good and felt like I was getting a better deal for my money. Also last time I came here we had to pre-select our seats and was not happy with this at all. Before you could pick any seats. I was beyond disappointed tonight! I bought 6 tickets to Strange Word. We got their at 3:30, the recommended time if you want to eat before the 4:30 show This would let the kids to eat before the show. We had to wait as theatre wasn't ready. Ok. We got in at 3:45, ordered. Our entire order did not come out until 4:45. The movie started, the kid were not interested in eating, the adults were unable to see what they were eating as the theatre went dark. We were interrupted FOUR different times during the movie by severs trying to deliver food that wasn't ours. A cocktail, an app and 2 desserts! None of what we ordered! I am so mad at myself as I spent $300 as gift certificates over the holidays. Won't do that again. read more

Ordered food with the app they required. No wait staff to be seen. My friend received her food but not her soda. Asked runner for it and it took another 15 minutes to get the soda. My food arrived and again no soda. Asked the runner who said he'd bring it. Nothing. Waited another 20 minutes and went out to the desk and asked the staff member who hands out menus. She said she'd take care of it...nothing! Waited another 30 minutes and I actually called the theater and spoke to Ruben. Once again, he said he would send it in. Nothing. Waited another 15 minutes and called a second time. Couldn't hear that woman's name and again she said she would have it sent in. Another 15 minutes go by. Finally 5 minutes before the movie ended, my soda showed up. Service is atrocious! You can't find any wait staff. I shouldn't have to ask two different staff members and call the theater twice to get a soda!!! Do better or have the patrons get the soda when they arrive at the counter. This place is a good place to visit a movie without it being packed. Seems slow however that is a good thing. The menu is reasonably priced but the arcades are expensive. $1 for pacman or donkey kong. haha. I had a pretty good brownie sundae. I feel the ice cream scooper must be the tiniest one ever though. Why are there no traditional Chunkys car seats to sit it in? The office chair style do not recline as nicely. Overall a good place to catch a movie if you want food too. Very friendly staff. Just ok. Good idea but could use a few upgrades to make it an A+ experience. As far as the theater goes, 4K HDR or Dolby Vision is a must. 1080p...really? Also Dolby Atmos is much better than 7.1, add height speakers. Plus you have seats in the front with no surround speakers. Also the speakers are way too bright. Turn down the treble and turn up the bass. Please have the theaters professionally calibrated. Also light the floors with leds and dim the overhead. The wait staff was good however we ordered all of the food at once and they brought out the kids desserts before the meal. Be safe and order burgers, nachos and wings. Chicken dishes are very dry. Overall it was an Ok experience but I'll stick to my own home theater to enjoy the latest tech, calibrated sound and reclining seats with arm rests. read more

Filthy. We reserved a table for 3. Thankfully nobody sat in the fourt, because it looked soaked with soda. Nobody came by to clean it. The bathroom was disgusting. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned all day. Being a Saturday that had more than 6 showings of each movie meant hundreds of patrons. The burger we ordered had nearly no toppings. As if the kitchen helps wages we're being garnished if they used any. The seasoned fries weren't bad but should have been served with ketchup offered. $80+ for dinner was a waste. If they ever hire a janitorial crew, we might come back and order seasoned fries and a pitcher of raspberry iced tea to share. read more
