I was living so close to this spot for so long but had never checked it out till today. I basically wanted to try the whole menu but opted for the shrimp enchiladas in green sauce along with the horchata. I ordered it as take out and it came with chips and salsa. Stopped in for Sunday brunch time excited for their breakfast menu and unfortunately, we missed it by a few minutes as they stop serving breakfast at 12PM. So instead I got their Asada Huarrache and it was filling but not my favorite. I wish the salsa was a bit spicier and the asada was more flavorful. The rice also was not my favorite, very heavy on the tomato. I feel like we would have had more luck with their breakfast items. Our favorite food item was definitely their house chips! I really recommend their salsa with their chips. In terms of their space design, this is a fairly small restaurant. They have some tables along both walls, a very nice central counter-space, where multiple groups and/or customers can dine. Plus, they have some outdoor tables. Your choice. The staff here are all very nice and you can tell that they are very dedicated to their jobs and this business. They really take care of their customers. Definitely go here -- it's such a sleeper spot! The location is a little random, but the second you walk in, the cute, thoughtfully done decor and cozy ambiance totally win you over. The menu is simple -- but done completely right. My husband loves the carnitas, and I've had the enchiladas which are excellent. Even the beans and rice (which are usually an afterthought at most places) are creamy, flavorful, and so well done. The owners are incredibly kind and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better. It's so nice to see a local small business executed so thoughtfully and successfully. The one thing I'm hoping for someday? That they get their liquor license -- because based on how good the food is, I have a feeling they would make an amazing margarita! This might be my new favorite brunch spot in the OC! Chuponcito thrives on its bold flavors that are perfectly balance. Nothing is too strong in the best way. For example, the drinks. This horchata latte is better than I've had at other places because it's not too sweet and still provides a good coffee flavor without losing the sense of the horchata. My favorite though was the banana latte which isn't too forward but is still unique. The regular horchata is on the lighter side but it's refreshing and doesn't leave you feeling heavy. The burritos seem pricy but they're hefty. The kids menu burrito is probably the size of a burrito elsewhere and the regular breakfast burritos could possibly be shared. Personally I liked the bacon one more than the chorizo one but the chorizo has a nice spice to it. The star though is the hot sauce. Whatever pepper they used to make it has a kick to it that lingers and burns in the way you want the spicyness to. I also sampled the carnitas benedict. I strongly dislike cilantro, and I felt like that cilantro hollandaise wasn't too strong. In fact the flavors were great. Additionally, the service was wonderful. They were patient with us as we took time to decide and were attentive to us which is great especially with a toddler. Overall, this is a great spot and I can't wait to come back again. read more

This is my second time in a week! Even though the place is relatively small, don't let that fool you. The food is exceptional! I've enjoyed the Chili Verde each time and always see others eating it while I'm dining in as well. Their chips are also excellent (and free which is appreciated) and the guacamole is really good as well. They have a great menu with a variety of options, including homemade sangria with beers and wine. The tortillas are homemade, which makes them even more delicious. Their salsa is also made in house and besides their regular salsa, ask them for the extra hot and if you like that sort of thing, you will love it. There's a few tables outside and seating inside for groups of four along with smaller tables and some bar seating. Best Chilaquilas I've had in OC. Such a good find for families. When all good breakfast places in Irvine have a wait 30-50min wait on Saturday mornings, it was easy to get to and we got a table within 5 min on Saturday morning. Well this was a great find in Aliso Viejo! I was looking for good enchiladas and came across Chuponcito. The menu is on the smaller side but I tend to like that finding that fewer dishes allows the kitchen to make better plates. I ordered one red sauce and one green sauce enchiladas which came with rice and beans. The flavors were well developed even in the rice ! The frijoles were smooth and creamy. Hubby had carnitas special which he really enjoyed. They brought chips and salsa to the table - salsa was thin but good flavor. We finished with Flan which was good! The staff is very friendly and nice to all the customers. It was crowded throughout our meal with several take outs. Also loved the simple decor with quality Latin accents. Super cute place with amazing food! My fiancée and I were in the area for a wedding, and decided to try this place out before we head back home. They seemed pretty busy when we got there around 11am or so on a Sunday, but we were able to grab a table and order fairly quickly. We ordered a breakfast burrito and the chilaquiles, both with carne asada. While we did have to wait a bit for our food to come, it was definitely worth it. The tortilla on the burrito was thin and crispy. Steak and potatoes were seasoned well. We especially loved the poblano salsa provided! Really flavorful and tasty. The chilaquiles were pretty delicious as well. For drinks, we got a freshly squeezed OJ and a guava aqua fresca. Both were refreshing and not too sweet! The chips and salsa are so good! Our server was kind enough to bring us some more mid-meal as well! For our entrees, we had the Enchiladas with shrimp and red sauce. I really enjoyed these! The enchiladas are on the small side but tasty nonetheless. We also got a burrito with chicken tinga, and this was quite sizable! Inside is just meat, rice, and beans, but it's topped with sliced avocado, pico de gallo, and sour cream. All entrees are served with rice and beans, and it's really good! Both indoor seating (individual tables of 2-4, communal tables, high top seating at the window) and outdoor tables. The food is so good here! Great portions too for the price. I even love getting their coffees! They have a lilac syrup which you never come across. I've had an iced lilac latte and they were kind enough to alter their matcha to add the lilac syrup. I've had a couple different items on the menu but my favorite was the burrito.
