A white tablecloth with high-end dinnerware was complemented by the ornate ceiling to elevate the visual appeal of the space, making it feel very upscale. The general manager introduced himself and informed us of the specials, and also made sure we knew that he could be of help if there was any beverage we didn't see on the menu. The bottles he was recommending were around the $100 mark - certainly out of our budget, but I'm sure there are many folks who will appreciate the variety of offerings. The dinner menu offered a wide gamut of options, from pastas, to steaks and seafood. I ordered the chicken piccata, and I'm happy to say it was the best I've ever had at a restaurant. The room quickly became incredibly hot, loud, and uncomfortable. It honestly got to the point where I felt like I might pass out. Our waitress was very kind and attentive, and I have nothing but positive things to say about her service. The food was a mixed experience. The standout items were the complimentary bread with the olive spread, which was delicious, and the mussels appetizer. We were pleasantly surprised by the generous portion, and the broth was so flavorful it was almost drinkable. It really just needed a few slices of crostini or grilled bread to soak up every last bit. The entrées, however, were just average. I know better than to order carbonara in the Northwoods, but I decided to give it a chance anyway, hoping I'd finally be proven wrong. Unfortunately, I wasn't. This wasn't really a carbonara. It was much closer to an Alfredo sauce, lacked the rich flavor you'd expect, and included ingredients like spinach that aren't part of a traditional carbonara.
