I came in with about 20 other people. We called days ahead to make sure they knew the group was coming, but this still scrambled to get us seating. But the entire time the lady server was funny, nice, making jokes with us, smiling, and working as fast as she could. She also checked in regularly and remembered everything. I ordered the broccoli beef lunch, which came with two crab puffs, soup, and a spring roll. The sweet and sour sauce tasted like ketchup but everything else was good. I am on the hunt for an excellent bowl of Chinese-American wonton-soup. Not to be confused with hong-kong-style wonton-noodle soup! They are not even close! All of this said, this is a family place and they are really nice, but the quality of the food is mediocre at best. My soup was bland, and the pork-noodle entree was so basic and economically contrived, that I am sure I would get better quality from Panda Express. We ordered food from Chu's on Sunday 2/14. Today, after reheating the leftovers-my boyfriend found a piece of metal in the pancit noodles. Thankfully he did not swallow it as the edges are very sharp and could have caused major damage, not to mention the risk of choking or breaking a tooth or worse. I took the container of noodles with the piece of metal back to Chu's immediately after finding it and was told "sorry- we do not give refunds." The man I spoke with at the counter called the owner, Annie, whom brushed it off as nothing "these things happen, no refunds." I didn't even ask for a refund, nor did I want one. When I told the man I would call the health dept, he was hesitant to give me the evidence back and stated "would a credit make you happy?" I left and will not be back. read more

The Egg flower soup I was not a fan of, it was more bland than eggs but was hearty and filling. I feel the same could be said for the egg rolls, the taste of fried celery overwhelming. The chow main and fried rice were perfect and well cooked. I wasn't fond of the egg medley but my partner was, so I believe it to be a preference. The staff was friendly, warm, and welcoming. Always liked this place, Threw out my back, could not go pick it up. Tried Grubhub. Neither Grubhub nor Chu's could get it straight. Oh, you want the family dinner? It says on GH it's for 2. Ordered. They call, saying first that although my card has been charged, my order wasn't "finalized," want to charge me again. Uh, no. I have the email saying it is being prepared. Then, they tell me all the prices are wrong on GH. And they are wayyyyy higher, natch. Isn't it on the business working with Grubhub to check that the info is correct? Maybe honor what is on there? Mind you, this GH guy already has an 18% tip on the order. But they dither and help NOT ONE BIT while leaving it to me to guess what might work, I come up with an alternative that should cost the same as what is already on my card. They keep saying I should have made the driver call ahead. Guess what GH does not mention... anywhere? Calling ahead. Now they're all cranky and acting it toward me, when I did exactly as the site said. I don't even think I'll want the food, at this point, with the three people all full of bad attitude on the phone, who even knows if it will be spit in. $50 down the drain. I won't use Grubhub again, and more's the bummer, this giant mess means I don't want to go to Chu's again either, because they didn't help- they added to the problem. Get your act together, people. And don't take it out on the customer. Bleah. The delivery instructions I included? Ignored. Called me completely confused as I walked him step by step to apartment number. How was the food? Had such a great experience at chus eatery today once we decided to sit in the dinning area. The lady that served our meal was so sweet. All the courses we're served timely. Very delicious and fresh...She even boxed up our left overs.. most restaurants would just give you the boxes.. and not a dirty plate was on the table when we left.. and she even visited with us for a minute making us laugh.. will definitely come back!! read more

This is one of the best long standing Chinese restaurants I have ever had. While I don't live in this part of town any more we still drive to Gresham when we want Chinese food to eat at Chu's. The number 5 and 8 are our favorites! Plus the egg flour soup is delicious. read more

I had driven by Chu's Eatery many times before at various times of the day, but tonight I was passing by at DINNERTIME so I stopped in. They weren't busy and I was seated right away. They brought a pot of hot tea and ice water right away too. I ordered Vegetable Egg Foo Yung with the gravy on the side. A bowl of Egg Flower Soup came with dinner, and I could get fried rice instead of plain white rice for my side dish for no extra charge. Now I was starting to really appreciate this place. . .with its complimentary hot tea, soup, and fried rice. The soup was pretty good, with tiny bits of beef in it making it especially tasty. It was very hot too, so I knew it was kept at a proper "safe" temperature. I was really impressed with my freshly made Vegetable Egg Foo Yungs. They were actually perfectly prepared. . .browned and slightly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and delicious. The price was fair, service was attentive, and my waiter was very nice. . .a perfectly enjoyable meal! More like 3.5 stars, the crab puffs here are money, the fried shrimp is good. The rice is about as bad as it gets, though. They lost a lot of their value they had going for them with the new menu price updates, I think the lunch menu went from about $5.75 to near the $7 range, which isn't great value for the quality or compared to other Chinese food lunch prices. The new price change doesn't reflect in the quality of the food, except for the crab puffs. The staff is very friendly, especially the girl that handles the to-go orders around lunch. I'm aware years ago I was not a fan of this place. But it may change upon last week's fateful decision to retry this place. After all, this place is so very close to our house. I was happy that we gave this place another try. Last week, we order the combos (the ones that gave me such a bad taste in my mouth years ago), but unlike years ago, I was pleasantly surprised with the result. They gave really nice portion to the meals, and they came 'hot' (freshly made), which gave the taste definite boost. Sure, it's very 'Americanized' Chinese food, but hey, it's all good to me. The food is ok, nothing to jump up and down about, but its close. Last time I ordered food to go, it was after corona right after the restaurants opened back up. I think it was left over from the night before. Not at all crispy, and not at all warm. This place needs to be shut down. I grew up in this rough and tumble neighborhood so ive been to this place a few times each time thinking it would be better...wishful thinking. The restaurant is dirty and smells like mildew.The food is gross the sweet and sour sauce tastes like soap.the staff are racist towards anyone who isnt white. We had such a good dinner here! On vacation visiting my boyfriend's family we came here for a birthday dinner. They blocked off the whole back room, un-asked, and gave us great service. Okay, this is going to be a long one. Buckle up and get ready for a crazy ride. We went here for my friends suprised birthday party. We rented out the banquet room for her party. The waitress started out being a little flustered and annoyed with us, which I understand, we were a party of about 20 people, so we definately made a ruckus. The waitress forgote a few drink and appetizer orders. Which happens. There was an aweome high school boy who was super polite and sweet and really helpful. And the bartender Danny was really awesome. Knew the family and was giving us strong drinks. And delicious drinks. Anyway, as they were passing out the soup, the waitress dumped a bowl of hot scalding soup on a 9 month old kid and his aunt who was holding her. The poor boy started screaming and we took of his clothes so it would not continue to burn him. Although it was an accident, what happened afterward was rediculous. The manager never came out to say anything to the couple who's son was scalded by the soup. We even asked to talk to the manager, and she refused to come out. The lack of professionalism was rediculous. We did not want to get the waitress fired or even free food, the parents just wanted the manager to show that she was aware of the situation and to try and help out. The main dishes came out, someone ordered chickn fried rice and got a noodle dish with a different meat in it. Drink orders were wrong. The restaurant did not have a first aid kit, and the bartender went out of his way to buy anti burn spray for the little boy and offered to call us an ambulance. The other staff gave us ice, but besides that nothing was done. My food was decent, crab puffs were really good. Broccoli beef is okay. Chowmein is kind of bland, but did have alot of different things in it. One of the members ended up getting food posioning from their food. Overall it was a bad time. read more

YUCK! This is by far the worst Chinese food I have ever had. I've lived in this area for a good half of my life and this was my first time there and my last. Service was not bad but the food was gross and over sauced. Mongolian beef was basically beef, onions and oyster sauce--the beef was swimming in it. The noodles in the house pan fried noddle was stir fry noodles. Even the fortune cookies were stale. I know that this place is not an authentic Chinese restaurant but seriously panda express is better than this. Sorry Chu's eatery I will not be coming back. read more
