Great service! We were able to get a seat in the patio immediately on a beautiful Tuesday evening. Sadly, they were not selling alcohol because they needed to renew their liquor license, but the food was great! Lots of awesome vegetarian options and several that can be made vegan. Eaten from here a few times now and while it's not the best Indian food I've had, it's definitely the best I've had in Seattle. I love Indian Food, so when I get to have some, it takes me to a happy place but not all Indian food is created equal. Chutneys looks nice, they have outdoor seating, a fountain as you're walking inside and the setting is nice overall, so they have that down. I've gotten take out, delivery (via Uber eats) and ate in here so now I think I'm ready to review. When you eat in, it's buffet style, you go up and load up your tray with all the staples of Indian cuisine as much as you want. The masalas, jalfrezis, the Naan are all OK, but they just don't slap like they should. I know it's Indian food, and the people all in there are Indian but it just doesn't slap (metaphorically speaking). Used to be excellent with great service. I don't know if they have new management or got in trouble but first of all, no liquor license for a couple more months (?). The food was uninspired, and was a small portion. I'm happy they do have VEGAN items. Our bread came out after our entrees arrived, at their leisure, (we were the only table in restaurant) and the waiter was not attentive and after asking the bill to be split, he didn't, didn't ask about dessert, etc. No atmosphere at all. Service here was 10/10! Everyone was very kind and really friendly. The Lassi was a perfect sweet and tart. It reminded me of a Vietnamese yogurt treat that I really enjoyed when I was younger. The meal we got was a little pricey and when they bring it out it doesn't look like much but it ended up being the perfect amount for me and my partner since I personally don't like leftovers and usually cannot finish the entire meal. He ended up finishing his meal and part of mine. In terms of flavor, I thought it was really good! The flavor was just right. The only thing I wish we had more of was spiciness. I got a middle of the road spice level and my boyfriend got the spiciest but it didn't really feel that spicy. The place was nicely decorated and well lit and there were plenty of tables and spaces for large groups of people. I would recommend giving this place a try if you're in the area! We were well taken car of by the ever watchful eye of the owner, Harish and the stellar CEO of service Shimul. We were able to dine outside, which was perfect because it had been hot all day long, so it was perfect by the time we had dinner. We had a fairly large group of folks, and the staff didn't miss a beat, with the food arriving really quickly. I ordered the Pasta, and it was AMAZING! So very rich in flavor, with nicely sliced chicken that was so tender and seasoned and marinated to perfection. But, my review would be remiss if I didn't talk about the naan. Garlic and perfectly squishy, it was a delightful way to accompany the meal. I have to say something about the delicious beverage I had with my meal -- amazing iced coffee. Have you had this before? It's stellar, and you really must try it! Sweet and creamy, it definitely was a great beverage for a warm summer evening. Takeout for lunch: boneless chicken tikka masala (comes with basmati rice) $21, and a side of daal soup $8. I ordered to tikka masala with a 4/6 spice level and was disappointed when there was no spice at all. The sauce is creamy and tasty, but was very mild in spice. The chicken was bland as well. The basmati rice portion was generous, which I loved. But the rice itself was bland and tasted of the water it was cooked in. The daal soup is small for $8, but had plenty of lentils. The downside is that the soup was also bland and lacked and spice, salt, aromatics, etc. Just tasted like a basic tomato base so I added fresh lemon juice and salt myself. This is disappointing because daal soup is my favorite dish! Overall, the takeout service was quick. The staff was very friendly! But the food was just okay. Had to give it a try since it's the closest Indian food in the Wallingford area. read more

I used to love Chutneys and frequently patronized their bistro when I lived locally, but after ordering a takeout a couple of days ago, I have deleted them from my address book. I don't know what happened to this business but their cuisine has declined (radically) from delicious to disgusting. We ordered a selection of main courses with papadums and nan bread but all of it was pretty inedible (tasteless, bad consistency, burned, and even lacked basic ingredients to be considered a proper meal). My husband usually eats anything, but even he tossed it aside in favor of a home snack. This was an assault on our tastebuds and we will never return to this restaurant. read more

was in the area looking for a quick bite to eat, and stumbled upon chutney's. the restaurant had a good atmosphere, seemed clean as well. customer service was great, all the waiters were super nice and welcoming. we went when it wasn't too busy but i was still pleasantly surprised by how fast our food came out, about 10 minutes. every dish was really yummy, and i didn't think they were big portions, however looks can be deceiving. a little bit pricey compared to other places ive been, but still very good. can't say much about the buffet since we had a la carte but id love to come back and see how it is. read more

AMAZING service and food ‍ we came a little late, when dining was closed, but takeout was still available and I cannot say enough good things about how friendly and generous the Chutneys staff was. They gave us water, paper plates so we could still eat our takeout in the courtyard, and were so nice. We got butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, rice, and garlic naan. The service was a little lack luster we but it was pretty empty with only one person working the front of the restaurant. Me and my friend did the lunch buffet which was about $21 each before tip which is a pretty fair price. The chicken in the butter chicken fell right off the bone and was delicious and creamy. My friend was a vegetarian and they had enough vegetarian options in the buffet for her. Drinks are not included with the buffet btw so much I think could be changed. The naan is as it should be. The rice has taste. You know they followed the recipies for the curries. And they have a couple American type dishes like potato fry and salad. The desserts are plenty and they have 3 chicken dishes on the weekend. They have coffee with the buffet. This is an above-average buffet with good pricing and nice service. The chicken kebab was raw in the center, the malai kebab had no malai on it.. the butter chicken was uncooked, and just yoghurt and square pieces of chicken just thrown into it! The Biryani was just rice mixed with tangy tomato base - with a heavy raw turmeric taste! And the Delhi style chicken curry was a sham! Nothing about anything this restaurant served is Indian food! It's not that difficult people- all recipes are on YouTube, just look it up and cook accordingly. Don't serve shitty uncooked salmonella chicken to your customers! I think I shoulda done more research and gone in for the lunch buffet. I am also a proponent of spending more for quality and effort given. That said, I am a bit disappointed by the vindaloo from the restaurant. I go in for medium spicy vindaloo with garlic naan. Rice included, thankfully. What I got was something that wasn't spicy at all (shoulda gotten hot and maybe the spice level reflects the tolerance of the surrounding area) and super thin curry gravy. Vindaloo should be the safe bet here but again, maybe the appeal here is the amazing parking situation and location. I'll try the buffet next time. read more

Yes, some things are due to COVID but some things are not. I, my husband, purchased 3.5yo and our infant went on a Sunday evening. We called ahead to ask if it was busy and someone barked into the phone - "not busy" - and hung up. We gave it a chance anyway. 1. We have a toddler. We get that not every place is kid-friendly but a gentleman came over and said in a rather annoying tone - the curtains are not strong and can come off if he pulls. Got it. Then my toddler was striking the table w a fork and someone came over to say it would scratch the table, can we stop. So we put a stop to that as well. It's hard to manage toddlers so I get that not all places are great w small kids. 2. The food is mediocre. The puri was oily soggy. I love the location of this restaurant. Its tucked away in a central part of wallingford and is very quiet and well decorated. The servers are all so attentive and kind. It made the dining experience very enjoyable. To drink we had Masala chai - they do not add sweetner and you add it yourself. You also get a refill of the chai which is nice. We had samosas they were delicious and warm and I would definitely order them again. We also had the Tikka masala and butter naan, which was good! The last item was the chicken Biryani which was not good compared to other Biryanis ive had. The texture felt like it was mixed with less spices and more with a curry so it was "wet" and not quite what i was expecting. Great restaurant with amazing food! This was the first Indian restaurant where I didn't feel sluggish afterwards. The food was clean! I'm Indian and don't have a gallbladder so it's hard to indulge in Indian food but chutneys wasn't oily. Usually you can see the oil all over the food at other restaurants but I didn't see it here and the food was fine with my digestion! Service was also great! This review is solely based on the lunch buffet. The buffet has a pretty good selection. Often the food is too salty, some days not. It might depend on who's cooking on any given day. Their raita is not good. It reminds me of Sysco ranch and is too salty. The staff is great. They are quick to seat you and will give your choice of seat as available. I've eaten here for many years, though not all that often. Just don't order Indian that often. I like some others in the area just as well but Chutneys is pretty much the anchor for Wallingford Center, along with the Pharmaca and Tweedy Pops, and I don't want to see the Center fold. The coconut chicken is almost as good as the tikka masala so get one of each. I came across a quick encounter with my food but manager addressed it immediately so that's why I'm giving them 4 stars for addressing the customer service promptly. Tried their buffet, and I was slightly underwhelmed. They had a large assortment for appetizers, entrees, and desserts, along with coffee, but in general these dishes lacked authenticity. The mutter paneer had a good unique creamy texture to it (often missing in this dish), but the daal and other dishes were pretty average in taste. Main reason I wouldn't go back is because there are cheaper Indian buffets offered in the puget sound with tastier dishes. However, the ambience is nice and the restaurant itself is quite fancy! read more
