Typically I really enjoy Taste of India but hadn't been since pre-pandemic and stopped by on my last visit to Seattle. I'm not sure what happened on my last visit as the curries were on the colder side. When you arrive parking can be a bit difficult, there is a small parking lot out front, if that's full you'll need to find street park. The restaurant itself feels warm, casual, and bustling. Queen you walk in you have the option to sit on the backyard patio or in the dining room. We opted to sit in the dining room as it just felt more intimate and the vibe we were wanting for dinner. For our appetizer, we started with the Samosas (Two crispy pastries filled with your choice of freshly mixed vegetables or delicately spiced lean ground beef) which were excellent. Next we ordered the garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, and butter chicken. The naan and samosas showed up piping hot but the chicken tikka masala & butter chicken were cold. I probably should have said something as I was disappointed but was too hungry to care at that moment. If I'm in the Seattle area I may stop by Taste of India again. read more

so, this place is pretty clearly, and almost objectively so, made exclusively for westerners. what i mean by that is that this place serves Indian food that will not attempt to challenge western palettes in any way - rather its goal is to have people walking out with a mildly positive attitude towards the food. if someone were to ask them how the food was, they will say that it's fine and say that indian food is an underrated cuisine. the first indication of this that caught my eye was on the menu, where it was listed that "all spice levels are American standard". The fact that this is on the menu at an *Indian restaurant* is pretty ridiculous, in my opinion. I'll get to the spice levels later The second indication was when the waiter brought out our naan, and said "Here's your naan bread". I almost laughed out loud at this point. Naan bread? Thank god we didn't order chai or he would've said "Here's your chai tea". when we actually got our food, it was as disappointing as I expected Despite the fact that I ordered the 'Hot' spice level (the second highest), this had utterly no spice at all. I know that I have a high spice tolerance, but you know it's not good when other people at my table who have a low tolerance cannot taste any spice whatsoever. I've had hotter dishes ordering the 'Hot' level at American restaurants! In addition to there not being any spice, there was pretty much no flavor at all to the curries. There was just no point to the gravy on both the Jaipuri "Masala" and the Vegetable Kofta, as it both cases it was quite bland and essentially tasted like nothing. The paneer and the kofta were ok - but nothing more than average. Again, the lack of any kind of flavor is just crazy. Our table also got the Biryani, which had decent vegetables but also suffered from a lack of flavor The roti and garlic naan that we got were really hard and difficult to break apart. not very good at all If you're Indian - do not come here - you'll get far better Indian food either a) at home or b) at another place If you're not Indian - I would highly recommend trying another place to actually get a taste of what Indian food is really like. This watered-down version simply isn't it. I would recommend Saffron Grill in Northgate for an example of Indian food done correctly on the positive side, one thing i appreciated about this menu is the customization available for different curries this is especially helpful when it relates to giving options to vegetarians, as it doesn't restrict people who are vegetarian to specific curry options having paneer, vegetables, and tofu options available for each curry is pretty good i also thought the spinach naan was pretty good. out of all the bread we ordered, it was the only naan that managed to be soft, and easy to pull apart the spinach inside tasted pretty good as well the complimentary samosas (although clearly reheated from frozen) and sweet at the end was a decent touch the portion sizes were also decent - the amount of rice that came with the curry was pretty significant read more

My nephew brought us here during our recent visit to Seattle and it was phenomenal! I have tried some Indian food in Houston, TX before and typically I only eat the curries & breads. I tried the coconut curry with Paneer & the Naan with Paneer & they were both delicious! My mom tried the chicken soup (forgot the name but it begins with an M) and she loved it. They gave us mini samosas when we arrived for free and a delicious, I mean delicious cheese cake with mango purées at the end, for free! It was amazing!!! My husband and I went to taste of India on a rainy Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. The inside was warm and cozy, and our servers were prompt and attentive. The currys were piping hot and delicious. I've struggled to find great butter masala in Seattle, and taste of India's hit the mark! Not pictured, but their naans are huge. My husband and I each ordered naan, and the amount of rice, curry, and naan was the perfect amount for a full serving of leftovers. Taste of India may be the largest Indian restaurant in Seattle. They must be able to fit 100 people in here between the inside and outside. They also have a to-go counter in both areas. Between this, and what seemed like 20 wait staff running around and attending to customers, they have the service part of the business figured out. By looking at the reviews here, it seems like the complimentary desert is their thing - we must not be quite as special as we thought we were! Anyways, it's a really nice touch, people never forget those things. Let's start by talking about that naan. You gotta have it when you're going anywhere to get Indian food. And I was blown away by the pure enormity of it here. This thing was bigger than my head! Do not let the largesse of this bread distract you though, it is fluffy and fantastic (F&F). I also appreciate that it's so very clearly homemade, because it's not rolled out that well, there are some sides that are thicker than others. That's not a knock on the product, I just imagine it's hard to churn out tons of these every day. The mango curry tastes great here, and comes with a side of rice, which I feel like isn't as common these days. It does feel like there are very few pieces of chicken in the actual curry though, that would be my main drawback to ordering it again. It seems like this was the same for the other curries that were ordered at my table. Taste of India is a fun place to go get some dinner, and I've heard that they do fantastic takeout as well. Sitting at the table and googling each dish somehow reminds me of exam days back in middle school--such a PTSD experience. I came here on a mid-August night, and sitting outdoors was perfect. The staff were friendly and nice. I had the fish vindaloo. It tasted alright to me-- a bit sour and a bit pungent, kind of like a yellow curry with extra vinegar and chili. Not my favorite. The butter masala was probably more my type: creamier, tomato-y, and sweeter. I think I'll stick with that from now on. The garlic naan was delicious, a little burnt this time, but not a big deal. I ordered the Mediterranean salad with chicken. I did ask our server if the dressing was made in house and he said yes. I was amazed when it arrived how large it was, but it was almost inedible. The salad was drenched PLUS additional on the side which was definitely not fresh. The chicken was tandoori, which had to be left over from the previous day: dried out, tasteless. Sliced green olives were out of place, I bit on a kalamata olive pit, and skant feta. We also asked the server to split the bill, and he clarified that we wanted it split by items vs 50/50. This is my favorite restaurant in Seattle. I love the ambiance. I can imagine it was once a private home. My absolute favorite dish is the Chicken Palak Masala with Garlic Naan. My mouth waters just writing about it. And the portions are large enough that I usually have enough for lunch the next day as well. The staff are always quite welcoming, and make you feel at home. I found it amusing that a one star review in March suggested people go to Saffron Grill instead, as it is owned and run by the same people and has the same menu, but it is on a noisier street, in a much busier neighborhood, and the atmosphere is not at all cozy like this place. The curry was rich & flavorful, the meat was tender, and the spice level was just right for me. The best Indian food I have tried in u district. Beautiful outdoor seating with flowers and heat lamps for the winter, really nice atmosphere. Homemade chai tea with unlimited refills was so tasty. The 6 different spice levels you can pick from is great for those who can't handle a ton of heat, but still want a nice mix of flavors. Pretty pricey but the food is incredibly filling and flavorful. Well worth the experience. My only complaint is that the baba ghanooj appetizer did not have enough pita to dip. We split 4 small pieces between 4 people for a very large quantity of dip (like $15). Came in on a Saturday night with 4 adults and 2 kids without a reservation. We had about a 20 min wait but that was really not a big deal at all as we hadn't planned ahead & they brought around a little chai tea for everyone waiting. We also had 2 vegetarians in our group with one of them being gluten free and there were plenty of options to meet the dietary needs. I spit the tandoori chicken tikka with my husband. It's giving AUTHENTIC!! Had a lunch date here on a Saturday afternoon, it was both of our first time having Indian food and this place was locally owned and had great reviews. Upon arriving the aroma of spices pour out of the door and draw you in, several staff welcome you and there was no wait to be seated. The atmosphere was felt homelike and elegant at the same time with the table set ups and low ceilings but there was staff stationed in a couple corners anticipating the needs of each table so it was very hospitable. We were served complimentary veggie samosas at the start and a complimentary slice of poppyseed lemon cake at the end, both very delicious and for our first time trying Indian food we really appreciate having bites of other offerings from the menu. We started off with garlic naan which came with a dipping sauce that I wish I knew more about because it was so good! Our main dishes was the Butter Masala, it was tomato forward with tender chicken, and the Pineapple Curry with lamb, which we could have upped the spice since the pineapple added a sweetness but we still enjoyed both dishes.
