The naan was very boring, which I guess should have been obvious from the pictures. Decent but not really fresh. Even when I called them asking them to make breads crispy, they really looked undercooked and raw and full of thick all-purpose flour. Portion was also underwhelming and really not worth the cost. Here are the things we ordered: Dal Maharani - decent flavor, can be reordered but a bit oily. Oil was really floating a lot on the top. Vegetable Malai Kofta - good flavor but doesn't really have the malai or creamy flavor. Lachha Paratha - undercooked, very stretchy, didn't like it much. Located on the west side of Lake Union, this place offers a wide variety of Indian dishes. While the popular dish is the butter chicken, I've had butter chicken at numerous occasions so I decided to get the Mother Indian Tandoori Platter and it was fairly huge portions - enough for 2 decent meals. From the menu, this dish has Lamb Boti Kebab, Chicken Tikka, Tandoori Chicken, Tandoori Prawn, and Lamb Keema Kebab. I liked the lamb keema kebab (it's like the Mediterranean kofta) and chicken tikka the most, and I liked the lamb boti kebab the least since it was super tough. The rice is a little clumpy but otherwise flavorful and generous portions. Some parts of the tandoori are a little burnt but it can be hard to have zero burnt since it's on a grill, no biggie. I did online ordering and used their code for 10% off. The wait times are pretty accurate (20 min) so I waited a minimal amount as I timed the online ordering close to how long it takes for me to walk there. Overall, decent Indian spot and I'd be down to try the usual butter chicken here at some point. read more

The food is consistently amazing. Their chicken biryani is always full of flavor (and ghee) and the butter chicken curry is rich and comforting--truly a standout. The Goan curry is also a favorite, bursting with spice and depth. The samosas are crispy and delicious and huge. We ordered the butter chicken, hariyali chicken, and a side of garlic naan as a meal. The butter chicken came with a generous portion of rice on the side as well. The butter chicken had tender cubes of chicken with a rich, decadent tomato based sauce. It was perfect with rice and garlic naan. Really I'd wanna put this curry on everything because of how delicious it was. Additionally the hariyali chicken was a delightful tangy chicken dish with a creamy herby sauce on top. This chicken was also very tender as it didn't require too much effort to cut through the pieces. This dish also comes plated with biryani rice which is a nice additional hit of flavor. One garlic naan order comes as one giant piece cut into 4 pieces. Not the most garlicky naan I've had but it had great crisp and chew which made for a great vessel for lopping up some more sauce. The space is small and they don't have their own parking lot. But across the street has plenty of parking with free parking after 4pm. read more

Came to this restaurant because of the reviews. Unfortunately, my husband and I had a really bad experience. The waitress came over to take our order. I did order but then realized that my husband wasn't quite ready. He asked if she could come back in a couple of minutes. She did come back and he ordered. Like 5 minutes later, my food comes out. Only my food. She says to my husband "you ordered late so your food is coming late." Uhmmmm what?? 1. She didn't have to put in my order without my husband's order. We didn't know she was going to do that. 2. Just such a rude thing to say. I started eating because I didn't want my food to get cold. My husband was hungry so we both shared my food. Ten minutes pass... 15 minutes pass. Let me add, we were the only guests - she never thought to check on the status of his food. Finally, my husband asks "do you know how much longer??"" She goes to the kitchen and turns out they never got the order. But she never thought to check until we asked. I'd had my food a solid 20 minutes. All of a sudden she's apologetic. I have been getting takeout here once or twice a month since I moved here three years ago. I have always had an excellent meal. It is my favorite restaurant in Seattle. The staff is so nice. Portions are very generous, usually a full two meals. My favorites are the Tandoor salmon and tikka paneer, samosa chat, baigan bahrta, tadka dal, chana masala, raita, malai kofta, palak masala, butter chicken, and spinach nan. Discovered Mother India Cuisine while craving some hearty food on a rainy day. This tucked away restaurant has difficult parking, but surprisingly ample seating inside. We were sat immediately and our food came out quickly. The tandoori chicken tikka was deliciously tender and creamy, and the tofu vindaloo was wonderful when paired with the flavorful spinach naan. Butter chicken was best of them all, but still doesn't rank my the top 20. The food was notably lacking any heat or spice, especially the vindaloo which is typically a spicier dish. It was more like a lamb stew you would find in a pub in Ireland. Context: we arrived around 9-9:10pm, thinking maybe we'd be okay since they close at 10, but were told they were closing in 20mins and that we'd either need to eat fast or just take out so we opted to take out. We don't like coming to restaurants late because we know they need to close the kitchen and cleanup before the day ends, but I still don't think that justifies serving us raw/rushed chicken. Our apologies though, we had a late day coming back from Canada. Anyways, the picture pretty much speaks for itself. I was super hungry so I was taking huge bites of the chicken malai tikka until I encountered one with a weird texture. Not string-ish like cooked chicken, but chewy and soft, like sashimi. I didn't spit out that bite but decided to investigate and this is what I found, so there were multiple pieces like this. I will say the butter specialty chicken and garlic naan were not bad, but this dish pretty much killed my whole experience with the restaurant lol. I actually never write negative reviews because I don't want my opinion to adversely affect restaurants but at this point I'd rather they try to improve their own practices to save this from happening to another patron. It doesn't seem like this happens often according to other reviews but come on, this is not okay. Mother India Cuisine was a perfect stop after a show in Seattle, for a bite to eat before starting our drive back to Portland. My daughter declared the Butter Chicken the best she's ever had. She was literally scraping the dish to finish the sauce. I don't usually like naan bread but the garlic naan was soft and light, yet crisps on the outside, and the garlic topping was soooo good. The dal soup app. appeared to be just broth and lentils with bits of garlic and curry. Never quite seen that before... but maybe there was a more complex typical to me version I didn't see. My tandoori was good, but if you go, let them know spice level. I said 0-mild for my daughter's dish and it was 0. Perfect for her. I did not say anything for my tandoori and it had a fair amount of heat. I decided to be on the safe side and wait until I got home to eat it, where it was a perfect spice level, for not having to drive 3 hours :). The basmati rice is perfection and the marsala chai tea delicious, as well as not being too sweet. The restaurant is much larger than it looks from the outside of the super cool I'm guessing 100-year+ old building on the triangular block. Soon as I opened the box my girlfriend lost her appetite. I tried a bite which I barely swallowed and immediately told her to throw it out. A poorly prepared meal for $50. We were walking down lake Union and looking for a place to eat. We saw positive reviews for this place and decided to swing by. Let me start with the positives which is only one to be honest. The service was prompt and courteous. The masala tea was flavorsome but when we asked if there is a free refill we were denied. There are other Indian restaurants in the area that offer at-least one free refill. Now coming to the food, the tandoori platter was way too salty and lacked flavor. The lamb had a weird smell, and the coconut curry and nan were average. The ambiance of the place is dated. Save your hard earned moolah and give this place a miss. read more

I'm being very generous with the 4 here. I almost gave them a 3 because they didn't have ice or decent ventilation, but the service a was good so I felt generous. I went in on the day of the heat wave and the water had no ice and was just a little colder than room temperature. The soda was at least cold (out of the fridge), but they served it straight out of the can, probably because they had no ice. It was honestly a 2 star experience because I could barely enjoy the meal since I was feeling so hot. The food itself is a solid 4. It's not the best Indian restaurant in Seattle, but it was good enough that I'd go back because there was no wait and the price was good. They didn't ask for spice level, which makes me think it's not adjustable. However, I thought the level they spiced the food at was perfect so I was fine with that. read more
