0 of 5 for hygiene! NASTY!
    SmugVegan J.

Skip this place: they have 0/5 hygiene rating and are in need of urgent improvement. Like all of the indian buffets on this street, it is not sanitary. -No sneeze guard -Sign requesting only one plate per person (yuck) -The bathrooms/toilets are a mess: dirty, smelly, dingy, and no paper towels available. Like most buffets on this street, there weren't any southern indian items. They also provide very poor service: I was never provided with a beverage, nor even asked if I wanted one. They did remind me that service wasn't included in the bill. Since I received no service, I didn't pay for any. I like dinner service better, but it was nothing worth going out of your way for. Dinner service was more like ££, cost wise.

Chana masala (with plain and garlic naan in the background)

Looking back, it seems as though there was a touch of destiny and fate that caused me to walk into Chutneys during my vacation in London. Why do I say that you might ask? Well, two reasons specifically: 1) my friends and I were only in the neighborhood because we went to take pictures at 187 North Gower Street/Speedy's Cafe since we're big Sherlock fans and wanted to see the location for the show's 221B Baker Street, and 2) although it subsequently has closed, one of my favorite Indian restaurants back home in Hawaii was also called Chutney, so the name played to my palate preferences. From the exterior, there really isn't much to mention. There isn't any special decor or signage, nor is there anything that would really set them apart from some of the other Indian cuisine restaurants in relatively near vicinity. Additionally, the interior, although clean and surprisingly spacious, also lacked anything of note that would really set them apart. The menu was pretty standard fare for your typical Indian place, and I'm fairly certain any Indian food fan would be able to find something to satisfy their lunch or dinner cravings. I don't know about any of you, but when I go to a new Indian restaurant I tend to stick to my default favorite order of chana masala and plain naan. And what was the verdict? I am happy to say that Chutneys didn't disappoint. The chick peas were not over-cooked and mushy, which is a culinary pet peeve of mine. The naan was also cooked well and maintained that nice chew and subtle burnt flavor/charring that characterizes that style of bread. And maybe the most appealing note for tourists and budget-watchers alike, the prices at Chutneys are very reasonable, especially for the portion sizes. Coming from Hawaii, I like to think that we have it pretty bad when it comes to cost of living and price of goods/services. But holy crap London makes Hawaii look cheap. So you can best believe I was grateful for a bargain when I saw it! Although Chutneys is a little off the beaten path, especially since I've been there done that regarding the Sherlock thing, when I go back to London--I enjoyed my time there so much that it's not an if, but when--I know I'll be on the look out for delicious Indian restaurants. So, who's to say that my stomach won't make an executive decision to jump on the tube and make my way back to Chutneys? If you're in the area, or hell, if you're just looking for some place good to eat, give Chutneys a try. You won't regret it.

Nice chaat and soul food place. Good variety on the menu - north/south Indian and Gujarati. Fast and good service. And very reasonably priced. Loved the veg biryani. Close to Regent Park, perfect after a nice stroll there.

Great and friendly place to eat - we go there with friends about twice a year when in London. Wonderful choices for vegetarians and vegans and it's all really delicious! The last reviewer gave more detail so I'm just agreeing with him/her really!

Just bad and not authentic at all. The paneer is sweet. The starters are either not fresh or not made properly.

Widely regarded as one of the city's most popular vegan restaurants, it delivers food that is satisfying, hearty, and packed with flavour. I ordered the Chick+n Caesar Burger, which featured a plant-based chick+n patty, Caesar mayonnaise, lettuce, and red onion relish. My wife chose the Beetroot Carrot Vada Burger, made with a masala-spiced beetroot and carrot patty, mango lime slaw, green chutney, and tamarind chutney. Both burgers were served with a generous portion of fries and made for a very filling meal. What stood out most was the quality of the flavours and the portion sizes. Every ingredient felt thoughtfully chosen, and the combinations worked exceptionally well together. As someone who regularly eats meat, I was genuinely impressed by the texture and flavour of the Chick+n Caesar Burger. We also ordered two fresh juices: the Cucumber, Celery & Apple and the Pineapple, Apple, Ginger & Turmeric. Both were refreshing and paired perfectly with the meal. Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, or simply looking to try something different, Mildreds is well worth a visit. The menu is creative, the food is delicious, and the overall experience demonstrates just how good plant-based dining can be. Highly recommended if you're visiting London and exploring the Covent Garden area. Service was great - super friendly staff Ambiance was nice - a chilled, quiet, progressive crowd

The mains were so good. We had the Korean fried chicken burger (which was HUGE, by the way), the beetroot burger, and the tofu salad. The burgers were very good, but boy, when I took a bite of my friend's salad, I fell in love. It was refreshing, the flavors were yum, and I'm drooling a bit rn thinking about it. The staff were extremely quick, kind, and sweet. There's lots of seating, although the downstairs area was quite packed. Overall, I loved the ambience of the place!

The moment I step in, one of the staff explained the concept of Tibit to me. Items are clearly labelled. Because I was there around breakfast time, I did not get a chance to see the lunch and dinner options. With that said, I really enjoyed the vegan "sausage" roll (1.60 pound). It was flakey on the outside and filled with delicious UFO (unidentified filling option). I commend Tibits for their plant-based ingenuity.

It was clean and roomy, and I liked the overall vibe. 4/5 SELECTION: It's all vegetarian (but they have labels for which are vegan, along with some other allergy notifications) and it's like a hot food bar, where you put whatever you want on a plate and then they weigh it, and you pay per 100g. There are 40 different dishes offered daily, including salads, hot dishes, and desserts. They also have drinks and cocktails. 3/5 WHAT I GOT: From what I remember/can see from my picture, I got white rice, mixed greens, bok choy, a grilled veggies mix, a green beans mix, a potatoes and peas mix and some of an artichoke dish. All of the stuff I got was vegan. It was all pretty good and tasted fresh and of good quality -- in fact, it was probably the best buffet/hot food type bar I've ever been to. None of it tasted like it'd been sitting out for a while, and none of it was undercooked or tasted too processed. The only complaint I have is that I wish they refrained from using oil, but it actually could've been much worse, so that's that. 3/5 SERVICE: The employees seemed friendly. I mean, we didn't really need to interact with them much, given the style of eatery, but they seemed nice lol. 4/5

Maybe my friend over-sold it and got my expectations up too high, because I was pretty disappointed in this dinner. We were asked if we wanted still or sparkling water. We said still and were brought out a £4.50 bottle. I know it's common to charge for water in Europe, so I didn't think much about it until I noticed that everyone else around us had refillable glass bottles -- free tap water that we were never even told was an option. We were seated downstairs at a large communal table. I don't necessarily mind that, but it was so loud that having a conversation was very difficult. My cocktail was delicious, but so tiny. The wine list was decent -- a good mix of options at various price points. As for the food, it was very hit or miss. The mushroom starter and the pork main dish were delicious. Unfortunately, the two most expensive dishes were disappointing. The prawns had great flavor, but a strangely soft, mushy texture. For me, the flavor made the weird texture okay, but my husband couldn't get over the mushiness of the shrimp and hated this dish. The sea bream was very bland and dry -- highly disappointing for the most expensive item on the menu. We ended on a high note with the affogato dessert (Yum!), but for such an expensive meal, there were just a few too many misses for us.
