OK look after years of hearing how amazing Indian Food was in London I finally made it across the pond to try some. I was always weary of the validity of this concept because I grew up up in Chicago where we have Devon ave. and plenty of very good authentic food. This place is like some type of Indian fusion with some other type of asian food. Or maybe this is like Northern Indian, which I've only ever had traditional Indian. Daughter and I came in for a dinner on a busy night in SoHo. Got seated ahead of our reservation. With the server's tablet, our drinks were at the table before she finished taking our order. Padadums and chutneys were fresh and tasty, and the shrimp meal my daughter had was terrific. I really enjoyed my tandoori chicken too. The best Indian restaurant that I ever been to! The place itself is very nice with good vibe. The waiters was excellent: knowledgeable, attentive and very professional. The food was amazing! Few examples: The Onion Flower Bhajia was beautiful and tasty. The Delhi Samosa Chaat was unbelievable yummi. I had never eat such a good Samosa! This was the last restaurant we dined at before returning back to the US, and I was not disappointed. I had tried Dishoom earlier on in my trip, and wanted something similar again. Came across this place, which had more tables open and less of a wait, and was impressed with their menu. It was overwhelming, but we were happy with the Chicken 65 and Dahi Puri that we ordered for appetizers. There were also a bunch of specialty drinks that looked great and I had a non alcoholic ginger fizz type of drink that was tasty. Ambience and location can't be beat! Portions are small but flavorful. Drinks were also made well. The only tacky thing is the dining time limit...they will literally try to kick you out as soon as you even approach the limit. It's hard when it's a big party, or you're looking to order 3 courses, drinks, wine bottle and eat!! Food did come out quick, but sometimes, understandably, if you can't find your waiter, you can't obviously order more and then next thing you know, they want you out! It rarely happens that we end up in an Indian restaurant without planning for it and this time was one of those and are we glad that it happened. We visited Piccadilly Circus to catch some live shows and stumbled upon Masala Zone. Decided to give it a try on a whim, and it was a delightful experience. The cuisine is packed with flavor, the atmosphere is inviting, and the customer service is top-notch. My only goal on my short trip to London was to devour as much Indian food as I could! I tried Masala Zone, which is located in the prime and lively spot of Piccadilly Square. I had the Masala Dosa for breakfast, and it was great. It was served with three chutneys: coconut, tomato, and peanut. Everything tasted really good and had a very authentic flavor. In London with friends and Indian food was at the top of our culinary wants. While another place, not to be named, had a line 30 deep outside of it we continued on and stumbled onto Masala Zone and it was fantastic. The place was busy but when we got there we manage a walk up table. We must have hit it right because by the time we left they were on a 20 minute wait. Place was a varied crowd of all ages and backgrounds which seemed a clue the food would be great. It was. We opted for the share platter so we could get a variety of flavors and try many things. Perfect way to try out a new place. The food was bursting with flavor with a mix of veggie and meat options. We also did a few of the items from the cocktail list which were also well balanced. Place is good I like the set up. Food is really good. We reached there at 10 minutes to 10pm and they were closing but the hostess was nice enough to give us a table. The wait staff was good as well but one of the lady waitstaff had an attitude, she was very rude luckily for us somebody else served us. Over all good food, good ambience maybe servers with too much attitude should be eradicated specially given the location you shoud be more accommodating and tourist friendly. If I am in SOHO I will stop by again this time surely an hour before they are closing. read more

I used to be a regular at the Masala Zone when I lived in Earls Court: as chains go, the food is more interesting and varied than many. If I was eating in the evening, I would always order a thali - being guaranteed a good selection without having to choose myself. However, this time my friend and I were looking for somewhere for lunch in Soho, and, me being vegetarian, we knew they always do a good range of veggie options. We both opted for the lunch bowls: these had rice, a wedge of papadum, spiced spinach, a chickpea curry; mine then had paneer lababdar, with paneer (cheese) in a sauce of tomato, onions and cashew paste. My friend's had butter chicken in a similarly spicy tomato sauce. Both were moderately spicy - I particularly liked the spinach dish (how to make spinach interesting without trying too hard). We also both chose the Nimboo Pani to drink: this is Indian style lemonade, made with both sugar and salt, and lightly spiced. It is both refreshing and compliments the meal, and is something I wouldn't normally have. We chose it without ice, which meant the flavours came through very well. All this, plus the service charge (12.5%) came to £35, which isn't too bad for Soho. Service was efficient, though a little tight-lipped when we decided not to have dessert. It's a nice spacious venue, though, and the tables by the windows are excellent for people watching in this neck of Soho. read more

Unforgettable Masala High Chai experience - Indian take on traditional English high team - at Masala Zone Picadilly. This has to be one of the highlights of our visit to London. We had both the non-veg and veg versions of Masala Zone's high chai, along with unlimited masala chai. Each snack was presented in the perfect size to for us to appreciate the flavors without feeling too full. My favorites from the non-veg set was lamb sliders, fish croquettes, chicken tikka sandwich, and gulab jamun. My only complaint is the small size of the chai container - we had to wait a while for the waiter to refill the glass. It would have been preferable for them to leave a small pot of masala chai on our table. The restaurant's decor is absolutely incredible. Very regal and detailed that's helps to add to the royal dining experience. We will definitely return the next time we visit London. read more

Came to London to sample their famed Indian food. This place has a beautiful, dark ambiance and the restaurant is filled with red and yellow tones. The small plates are delightful, I recommend looking at photos of the starters before hand or ordering blindly if you're more experienced with Indian food. My server was Selvy Fernandes and he helped this vegan (who's allergic to eggs and dairy) make sure she ate like a queen! ‍ I had to roll myself out of there because the food was out of this world and I kept eating WAAYYY past the point of "full." Carnivores and vegans (and anyone with food allergies) can eat here with no worries. Definitely worth the visit! Came here for some indian dinner. This is a different region of indian food compared to dishoom. But honestly dishoom was better in my opinion because it was more spicy and got more spices to make the food good. Masala zone is pretty good but it just doesnt meet my standard of very good indian food. Size could have been bigger because i wasnt full but the price of the food suits the size. Just wanna compliment Sel for being such a lovely waiter for the dinner because he was respectful and formal. Sel should be the role model of being an excellent server. But there was some miscommunication inside that it took us until our food is served to get our water. The gulab jamun was the star dish of the night. Totally should just come here for the dessert. I've always heard that London has great Indian food, so I was excited for Masala Zone, but that wasn't the case here. We started out with Goan Crispy Fried Prawns. They were good, but kind of just tasted like tempura shrimp. For my entree, I went with the Butter Chicken, which was pretty disappointing. It just tasted like chicken in tomato soup. It didn't taste like curry and didn't have any spiciness to it, even though the menu said it was medium spice. The Garlic Naan was pretty good and rice was fine of course. The waiter recommended one order of each per person, but we would have been fine sharing between two people. The ambiance at the restaurant was very nice though and the service was great.
