We shared guacamole, excellent, and loved the freshly made chips and salsa. He had steak burrito with a tomatillo sauce, side of rice and small salad. For a sweeter option, try the black berry margarita. I got the steak burrito. It was huge and the steak bits were tender and juicy. I was pleasantly surprised by the green pepper sauce on the burrito: both flavorful and noticeably spicey. We finished our meal by sharing a brick of tres leches between three of us. It was ridiculously moist. If you've never had tres leches cake, i would highly recommend Chuy's for your first bite. I'm from Houston, and if I were in Houston now, I would give Chuy's 3 stars (there are like 5 Chuy's in the Houston area approx), assuming the restaurant was at the top of its game. But I am in Gainesville now, and compared to the other Mexican offerings here (and believe me, I have tried it all), I am giving this Chuy's 4 stars. A big negative for Chuy's in my opinion is that it's over-priced. You can get much better, more authentic Mexican food in Houston for lower prices-- while watching the tortillas being made at your table. Chuy's is taking advantage of us because that does not exist here. The Chuy's menu is limited and lacking so far as I am concerned, and is missing the traditional dishes I miss from southeast Texas... HOWEVER, Chuy's has creative, unique dishes on the menu that are quite delicious and definitely worth trying. You won't find them anywhere else. The dips are YUM. Don't skip those. It can satisfy many of my Tex-Mex cravings-- especially in the realm of fajitas, guac, & queso-- and because of that, I greatly appreciate that Chuy's is here. If you're craving Mexican food and like a little heat, you'll enjoy Chuy's. El Indio is a cheaper Tex-Mex option in Gainesville that satisfies some other cravings like genuine Southeastern Texas cheese enchiladas, without costing much at all, Be sure to check it out too. Holy guacamole. Chuy's is my favorite Tex mex restaurant hands down. I got the #6 combo which comes with an enchilada of some kind, a chicken chalupa, and a beef taco. The plate also had refried beans and rice. For only $12, I was filled with delicious food and happiness. The chicken chalupa were topped with lots of cheese, lettuce, jalapeños and much more. The tacos were crunchy and beefy. The enchilada was really cheesy and the sauce paired with it nicely. Surprisingly though, the rice and refried beans were my favorite part of the dish. Usually those are sides and don't get much attention but on this plate they were amazing. They complimented the other three food well. Overall score: Taste - 5/5 Portion - 5/5 Price - 4/5 Service - 5/5 Atmosphere - 5/5 I really enjoyed Chuy's and I'm glad my first time here was excellent. I like that they're made with freshly squeezed juices & not a pre-made neon mix. My husband & I shared the Burrito en Fuego, one of five entree specials for their annual Green Chile Fest. This burrito was over the top! Filled with moist chunks of chicken, fajita onions & peppers & *smothered* in a spicy green chile queso, this dish was perfection for two heat-loving folks. Came here with a group for lunch on a weekday. We walked in and were seated right away. The restaurant was a bit warm and is usually on the colder side, so not sure the air was on. Anywho, our waiter came and took our drink orders then our lunch orders. The drinks came out quickly, but the refills were not noticed by the waitress and we had to ask for seconds. The food took a bit longer than usual to come out which was a bit concerning since we only have an hour lunch break. But our food did come out, a couple mishaps. My soup did not come with a spoon and a co-workers salad did not have dressing on it or on the side. Had to wait another 5 mins for the dressing and spoon. Everything looked the same, menu looked same but honestly, when we got our lunch chicken fajita soft tacos, I almost sent them back. They were lukewarm at best. I'm used to my fajita meat coming out steaming and piping hot. None of that here so that took away from the plates main attraction. Creamy Jalapeño Ranch Dip!!! Whoa tastebud explosion. I could drink this through a straw..it is that good! On to the main course. I got steak quesadillas (not on menu but the happily sub steak for chicken). My Valentine's Date (hubby) got the Chuychunga (chimichanga). The flavor explosions continue. Per the menu it is a homemade, 12" flour tortilla stuffed with refried beans, cheese and your choice of sauce & your choice of Mexican rice or green chile rice.
