It's OK. Depends on the staff working that day I guess. Some visits, with a great wait staff / manager, the place runs efficiently, you get great (and friendly) service, and a great time. Others, it's as if you are providing an inconvenience by being there and they are simply annoyed by your presence. Food is OK. There's certainly much better in town (and some that are truly local, family owned establishments). The location is convenient and the ambiance / decor is great. Clean, COVID compliant wherever I looked, but I will say, freezing, and unfortunately, so cold the food cooled down too quickly! We shared guacamole, excellent, and loved the freshly made chips and salsa. He had steak burrito with a tomatillo sauce, side of rice and small salad. The burrito was humongous and even with his hearty appetite, half was enough. Steak was tender, rice well cooked. Waitress brought us out a sampler plate of all the sauces with our chips-very helpful. My son and I did fajita combo- steak and chicken. Excellent, tender, it foo many filler onions-fresh tortillas made on site, excellent! Daughter had chicken burritos and my wife had the sampler platter-it came sauced, she wished she'd gotten the sauce on the side but it was all really good. This TexMex chain has everything you want. Chips come with chunky salsa and their signature green pepper dip. My frozen house margarita came nice and tart. For a sweeter option, try the black berry margarita. I got the steak burrito. It was huge and the steak bits were tender and juicy. I was pleasantly surprised by the green pepper sauce on the burrito: both flavorful and noticeably spicey. We finished our meal by sharing a brick of tres leches between three of us. It was ridiculously moist. If you've never had tres leches cake, i would highly recommend Chuy's for your first bite. And all of this culinary fiesta takes place in a riot of flamboyant Mexican-themed kitsch. Every time we go to Gainesville. This place is a MUST. I always get an enchilada and my boyfriend gets the steak burrito 10/10

I'm from Houston, and if I were in Houston now, I would give Chuy's 3 stars (there are like 5 Chuy's in the Houston area approx), assuming the restaurant was at the top of its game. But I am in Gainesville now, and compared to the other Mexican offerings here (and believe me, I have tried it all), I am giving this Chuy's 4 stars. A big negative for Chuy's in my opinion is that it's over-priced. You can get much better, more authentic Mexican food in Houston for lower prices-- while watching the tortillas being made at your table. Chuy's is taking advantage of us because that does not exist here. The Chuy's menu is limited and lacking so far as I am concerned, and is missing the traditional dishes I miss from southeast Texas... HOWEVER, Chuy's has creative, unique dishes on the menu that are quite delicious and definitely worth trying. You won't find them anywhere else. The dips are YUM. Don't skip those. It can satisfy many of my Tex-Mex cravings-- especially in the realm of fajitas, guac, & queso-- and because of that, I greatly appreciate that Chuy's is here. If you're craving Mexican food and like a little heat, you'll enjoy Chuy's. El Indio is a cheaper Tex-Mex option in Gainesville that satisfies some other cravings like genuine Southeastern Texas cheese enchiladas, without costing much at all, Be sure to check it out too. Holy guacamole. Chuy's is my favorite Tex mex restaurant hands down. I got the #6 combo which comes with an enchilada of some kind, a chicken chalupa, and a beef taco. The plate also had refried beans and rice. For only $12, I was filled with delicious food and happiness. The chicken chalupa were topped with lots of cheese, lettuce, jalapeños and much more. The tacos were crunchy and beefy. The enchilada was really cheesy and the sauce paired with it nicely. Surprisingly though, the rice and refried beans were my favorite part of the dish. Usually those are sides and don't get much attention but on this plate they were amazing. They complimented the other three food well. Overall score: Taste - 5/5 Portion - 5/5 Price - 4/5 Service - 5/5 Atmosphere - 5/5 I really enjoyed Chuy's and I'm glad my first time here was excellent. I love the steak tacos al carbon. You can't lose with these tacos. The meat is flavorful and grilled perfectly. If you are looking for something lighter, then try the mexi-cobb salad. This is a satisfying salad with all the right ingredients. The diced avocados are ripe and the fajitas chicken leaves you wanting another bite. The salsa was similar to pico de gallo and their signature green/ ranch looking dip was VERY good! I think it's a jalapeño ranch dip? I might be wrong but whatever it is, I couldn't stop eating it. I smothered my burrito in it too! I guess I jumped too quick to my dinner choice. I ordered the ground beef burrito. It was a good sized portion. Included a side of rice and lettuce & tomato. The flavor of the beef was extremely good. I mean, they really know how to season their meet. My daughter ordered the steak taco salad and of course I had to try it. The steak was cut into perfect little cubes but the taste.... Oh my gosh! So juicy and full of flavor. It was seasoned very well but not salty. It was perfect! I was blown away with how everything tasted. I will definitely be coming back very soon! This place will NOT disappoint. Oh forgot to mention, the staff is super friendly. Arrived at Chuy's with my wife and was immediately greeted by the host. Just a few moments and we were seated. The area we sit in was very nice with many portraits of Chihuahua type dogs. Also, background music was noticeable but not overwhelming. Our server Taylor came to our table after only a few minutes. We ordered chips and salsa & jalapeño. Taylor brought it only right a way. 3.8 Stars. Place is cool. It has that real non-chain restaurant feel that's missing at almost every new place. Service was okay at the bar, but all of the employees were welcoming. The burrito was awesome. Sauce plate was cool to try all the options. Some really good ones in there. Tortilla soup was yum. The fajita chicken was over cooked, but you could tell the flavor was there. Unfortunately the Texas Tini was way too sweet. A floater for only $1.50 made it almost right. And homemade tortillas are really why I wanted to give it 5 stars. We wanted to give this place a higher rating for the ambiance, but food & drinks are what you really leave your house for. We arrived in time for Happy Hour, which is a treat. Not only are adult beverages discounted from 3-7, but they offer a complimentary "Nacho Truck" with chips, taco ground beef, refried beans, & queso for patrons to build their own app. I ordered the HH lime margarita on the rocks. I like that they're made with freshly squeezed juices & not a pre-made neon mix. My husband & I shared the Burrito en Fuego, one of five entree specials for their annual Green Chile Fest. This burrito was over the top! Filled with moist chunks of chicken, fajita onions & peppers & *smothered* in a spicy green chile queso, this dish was perfection for two heat-loving folks. It comes with a side of green chile rice, which was good, but not great. All in all, a slam dunk first for me & Chuy's! Came here with a group for lunch on a weekday. We walked in and were seated right away. The restaurant was a bit warm and is usually on the colder side, so not sure the air was on. Anywho, our waiter came and took our drink orders then our lunch orders. The drinks came out quickly, but the refills were not noticed by the waitress and we had to ask for seconds. The food took a bit longer than usual to come out which was a bit concerning since we only have an hour lunch break. But our food did come out, a couple mishaps. My soup did not come with a spoon and a co-workers salad did not have dressing on it or on the side. Had to wait another 5 mins for the dressing and spoon. That felt a little long, since everyone else was eating. The tortilla soup was very good, especially since it was a bit cold the day we went. It comes with a soft tortilla on the side that was awesome to eat with the chicken from the soup. So flavorful! Liked that they brought out free chips and salsa. Always on target.....this is a restaurant that is consistent with its food. I tried something new and was super pleased.....pulled chicken enchilada deluxe! The chicken, enchilada, and sauce is to die for....... I highly recommend you trying this dish. What's preventing 5 stars? My friend was offered 3 soft tacos for the same price of 3 hard, she said she could modify the dish, and when he got his check.....this wasn't the case. She should have told him prior to. Normally I'd give Chuy's a 5 stars, just because they're Chuy's and they're consistently good, tasty and funky. Except, I guess, in Gainesville. Everything looked the same, menu looked same but honestly, when we got our lunch chicken fajita soft tacos, I almost sent them back. They were lukewarm at best. I'm used to my fajita meat coming out steaming and piping hot. None of that here so that took away from the plates main attraction. While we were waiting I witnessed a kind act by the manager. A patron down on his luck came in to speak to the manager about getting something to eat. This place rocks from the ceiling to the floor. They have cool ceiling art(see pic). Tile on the floor is mixed and quite lively and colorful. The art is quirky and fun! Cold beer was excellent. Lime sectioned perfectly to go in the bottle. This is a skill set folks! Our server Jordan was very personable and seemed to know the menu very well. He was engaging and attentive! Creamy Jalapeño Ranch Dip!!! Whoa tastebud explosion. I could drink this through a straw..it is that good! On to the main course. I got steak quesadillas (not on menu but the happily sub steak for chicken). My Valentine's Date (hubby) got the Chuychunga (chimichanga). The flavor explosions continue. Love the cheese in the quesadilla and the portion sizes were amazing. We topped off the night with Tres Leche (not pictured as we dove in to quickly). It was so moist and flavorful. Everything was delicious! The queso has a great smokey flavor and just the right amount of spice. The pico salsa is also fresh and flavorful, with small diced chunks of tomato, onion and peppers. I ordered the oven-roasted chicken burrito. Per the menu it is a homemade, 12" flour tortilla stuffed with refried beans, cheese and your choice of sauce & your choice of Mexican rice or green chile rice. I had it with the green chile sauce and the Mexican rice. Great taste just a little on the spicy side for me. The portion was big enough to share, as I took half home. For dessert we ordered the tres leeches cake, and it was soooooo good, it had a creamy base of whipped fresh cream, topped with strawberries. Delicious!
