Chuy's is great. I have yet to have a bad experience at this place. The food is fresh as the tortilla's are made in house. The meats are always cooked great as well. Relaxed atmosphere but if you're a snobby foodie this probably isn't going to be your favorite place to dine. It's usually pretty noisy during peak dinner times due to its family-friendly vibe but we love it. The portions are large and we always take a box of leftovers home because we ate too many chips, every time. The chips are the bomb and that's usually how I judge a Mexican restaurant. The chips are the first impression & Cheuys for sure has the best ones I've experienced. Crunchy, not to think, fresh and nicely salted. Ask for their creamy green sala, it's free and it will change your life. Reg and peach margaritas are my personal go to but ask because they're always switching favors which is fun! I'm from Texas and this is the best Mexican food I've had here "up north" in Kentucky. Most Mexican food here is TV dinnerish at best. Chuy's is EXCELLENT and one of my faves when I'm in Lex. The people who give the food bad reviews just don't know real Mexican food. Fresh made tortillas and fresh chips with creamy jalepeno and salsa is to die for. My only complaint is that I don't eat here enough! Every waiter/waitress I've had here is very cool & attentive. The queso is really good and the chips are addictive - very light & crispy with the right amount of salt. The salsa is on the spicier side for my personal taste but I still couldn't stop eating it. And I don't know what this place does to their chicken, but it's the best chicken I've had. My usual is the shrimp & cheese chili rellano. Very tasty! Im not understanding the good reviews for this restaurant. The chips (taste just like the chips at Chilis, and yes, are just as thin) and pico salsa are pretty good and were the best things about this place. Went down hill after that. Not sure if it was the particular dishes we ordered (The Elvis Memorial Platter and some chicken bombom dish) or us simply being used to the mexican restaurants back home (we were traveling,but come to KY a few times a year)but the food was bad enough that we wont return. Taco Bell would have been a better option and cheaper (my one sister and I split a meal, I had water, she had a small mixed drink and our bill was $30. Now I will say the restaurant was pretty busy so people do like the place, but we totally don't get. If you truly like Mexican food I would suggest you keep driving and pass this place up. read more

Is it possible to give zero stars? My friend raves about this place so we decided to have dinner their for my daughters birthday. We had a party of 12 with lots of family in from out of town. I was underwhelmed by the menu given the good things I had heard. It took 20 minutes to get a drink that had been ordered from the bar. Half of our party got their food ten minutes before the other half. All that is bad enough but out of 12 people, 6 of the orders were WRONG! On the second try they only got two WRONG. On the third try my order was WRONG again and I gave up and told them to take it away and take it off the bill because everyone else had already finished eating. The server said that the manager was going to come speak with us about all of the issues.....NEVER HAPPENED! I can handle mistakes, they happen, but to not respect your customers enough to come speak to them about it is terrible. Some of our bill was taken care of but as we were leaving the server told us that she personally paid for some of our meal. What?! First, why would she need to do this and then why would she tell us that?? Where was the MANAGER??? During our stay we also heard two tables behind us complain of wrong orders. well... chuy's is slightly out of character for me but it reminds me of chi-chi's which was my introduction to tex-mex in my youth. it holds a special place in my heart and because of the similarities, this place has risen above all other similar chains in my estimation. one of their servers told me that they don't have a freezer for food. it's all fresh. that's a nice feature and I give them credit for making that effort. you may not all agree, but I believe it's better than the others and if you're going to eat at a tex-mex chain, it should be the best. read more

Mediocre is the perfect word to describe the food I had at Chuy's. With so many great Mexican restaurants in lexington I find it hard to believe that people would choose this place over a place like Mi Pequena Hacienda which is not to far away. The pork tacos were kind of dry, no sour cream or much of any of the normal taco toppings came with to add additional flavor, my girlfriend was scraping some of the remaining lettuce and unripened chopped tomatoes from my nachos just to attempt to help out the pork. The nachos were unremarkable but at least filling. I will give Chuy's credit though in an odd way, the salsa they brought to us was extremely hot when compared to what is provided from other places, don't know if that's what is normally brought out or if options are given but I give them credit for knowing somehow that I would love the heat which honestly i did. My gf however loved the flavor but had to stop when fire shot out of her mouth and her tears had to put it out. Our server was great as well, and the other servers I noticed were all very attentive so one star for the salsa and one for the service. read more

The best! Delicious food, margaritas from scratch. Every entree I've tried I've loved, favorites being stacked enchiladas, chicken tacos, fajitas, and the Elvis Presley combo. The salsa is super fresh. Ask for the jalapeño ranch dipping sauce too. It is addictive, and it's free, but they only bring it out if you ask for it. If you can make it during happy hour, m-f 4-7, they have drink specials, and a free nacho bar where you can load up all the nachos you want with salsa, queso, refried beans, and taco meat. Came here tonight at the request of our son for his 10th birthday dinner. The food would be a 4, pending they fully cook the chicken (1 trip it was raw) The service however is a 0. Called in an order for takeout last night. This was our first taste of Chuys and will more than likely be back to try the actual sit down atmosphere. Calling in the order was simple and prompt. They repeated back the order clearly and then gave simple directions on what to do when coming to pick up the food. I like the fact that they have the carside to go. I didn't catch her name but the server working the to-go station was incredibly friendly and bubbly. The food was good and the portion sizes left us enough for lunch today and possibly some for tomorrow. I had the chuychanga and it was good but the chicken could have used a little more seasoning. Nothing to prevent me from trying something else next time. The jalapeno dip was as good as people keep raving about. Just the right amount of heat to it. I really liked the fact that we got two full dinners with enough leftovers for two full lunches and the price was under $25. It makes it worth it to return and try a couple margaritas next time. read more

A little slice of heaven! Went to Chuy's with some co-workers for lunch and it didn't disappoint. Now I've been back about 3 times and they still make me happy. The chips are thin/crispy and warm--the salsa is just hot enough and oh so slightly chuky but not big chunky, the queso dip is divine--fajitas are great--my fave dish is Chicka Chicka Boom Boom...it's two chicken enchiladas with some kind of addicting sauce. They also gave us some sort of spicy ranch dressing alongside our salsa and it makes me want to drink it. Service has always been good on my visits. Love it!!! read more

The service and cleanliness was good, but the food was horrible. The burrito came wrapped in what seemed like a pita instead of a tortilla - too much bread! The chicken in my combination platter (enchilada, taco and other item) looked like it was either out of a can or boiled - no flavor whatsoever. On top of that, the manager was walking around with a large sucker in her mouth. Couldn't figure that one out... When we received our bill, we were double charged for the combination platter. Unlike others, my experience was not as good. I food came out lukewarm. The plates were warmer as compared to the food (especially enchilada's). We were a party of 4 and my friend and I ordered the same thing (Veg. enchiladas) and we both got cold food. We came here for a Sunday dinner, sat in the bar to watch the football games. The bartender and manager greeted us and offered to let us try the drink special of the day, we did. The chips and salsa are yum! The food is reasonably priced for a chain. I had the fajitas, and had plenty to take home with us. My drink was fine, nothing to brag about, my boyfriend went with the 'special.' Now just because it means it's a daily special doesn't mean the price is, paying $8-9 for a drink, which is more than our actual food is a bit much. Next time we will ask the price of the drinks, tacky? No, budget friendly. :) The bartender did give us a bag of chips to take home, and we were on our way. Just because there are so many more unique and authentic Mexican restaurants in the area, I doubt I'd go back here too much even though it's practically across the street from where I live. Went around 3pm yesterday. The hostess seemed like we were bothering her by asking for a table. She tried to sit us at a dirty table and when I asked her to clean it she told us to sit where we want to. Our server was great and the food was good, we got soft tacos and a chuychanga. Did feel like a dance club as the music was loud and annoying. Definitely odd for a Mexican restaurant. Think dining for Mexican food in Abcrombie & fitch or something. read more
