We LOVE this Chuy's for 1 reason and 1 reason only (besides the food): our server Cody. Cody always makes us feel so welcomed and entertained. I am underwhelmed when I eat at Chuy's. They present this fun and exciting atmosphere (which is cool and all), but man, let's talk about bland. The food is not flavored as Tex Mex should be. It tastes like it is lacking in both Tex and Mex, like some sort of gentrified Tex Mex. I've been here twice and each time, I have been disappointed. I love Chuy's. I go to the three different locations. 2 locations in Nashville and one in Franklin, TN. I realized a few differences in each location. At this location sometimes you would have to do valet parking. I like the tortillas the most at this location. However, The last time I've been to this location the chips was very salty and very oily. The best part of this restaurant for me it's mainly the chips. They make it fresh and it's very thin and has a nice color to it. Creamy jalapeño sauce is a must with the chips. I normally order the big as your face Britto. They used to have big portions but the last time I went to this location only 3/4 of my burrito was stuffed. It was very disappointing since I really love this restaurant chain. read more

Oh Chuy's I do love you! I have been a regular at Chuy's since moving to Nashville over a year ago. Free HOMEMADE chips and salsa, free valet parking, and great margaritas! What's not to love! I have to say I order the same thing EVERY time (3 crunchy tacos, refried beans, and green chili rice) but hey if it ain't broke don't fix it! Love me some Chuy's!!! Recent California transplant and let's face it, Nashville and authentic Mexican food don't fit in the same sentence together!!! Chuy's by no means is anything near authentic Mexican food. But authentic tex-mex, it is and it is far above the rest!!! The creamy jalapeño sauce is a gift for jesus himself and if you're there on the weekends make sure to get the special, it's something special for sure!!! Who say's you can't get anything for free anymore, Chuy's doesn't!!! The free nacho bar (4-7pm) is legit!!! The biggest problem (Vandy location) is that the parking situation totally sucks!!! We went the Chuy's while visiting Nashville last week right before cinco de mayo. I was hesitant at first since I've been to Chuy's in Southern California and was horribly disappointed but the one in Nashville must not be related as it was a much better experience. We were seated right away and fresh chips and good salsa was quick to follow. Our server Nikki was new to the job but did great and it was easy to tell she cared about providing good service. I had a margarita I really enjoyed and chicken tortilla soup which came with a delicious and house made flour tortilla. I tend to be a tortilla snob and could tell these were made fresh in house. They have several seating areas which gives nice variety including two patios that allow for entertaining people watching. All in all it's a great spot. My buddy said his tacos were just okay (otherwise I'd give 5 stars) but everything else considered, especially the awesome service from Nikki, made me really enjoy this place. read more

Saturday night was officially a long overdue ladies night for 2 of my favorite East Nashville broads. We decided to mix things up a bit, cross the river, and head to midtown for a couple libations and some small bites. After a couple strong beverages, we decided to venture across the street to Chuy's for some chips and salsa and whatever else our buzzy appetite desired. First off let me mention that I have been to the Chuy's in Cool springs and even the location in Birmingham and have had good food and good service. This was not the case in the new midtown location. The server behaved oddly and was quite unknowledgeable about the beverage menu and what vegan/veggie options were available. My margarita tasted about as good as a frozen minute maid limeade, and that being considerate. When one of us asked for a Jack and water, she literally brought a shot of jack and a 20oz cup of water- and yes I'm serious. We then sent it back to the bar to find that she returned to the table with the same glass only a bit bigger were she has added a splash of water but left out the ice. As peculiar as we all thought this was, I finally made my way to the bar to ask the bartender to make me a jack and water, which she politely did without explanation. When we finally got our food it was decent, but the whole atmosphere and uncomfortable dynamic of the experience left us less than enthused to return. I hope that these are just symptoms of a new restaurant and that with time the staff, service and quality of food and drinks will become up to par. Midtown is quite the thriving area and I would hope to see quality restaurant choices thrive especially since they are a popular chain. read more

Why have I not had this place before?! Chuy's has a fun atmosphere and pretty good food. My boyfriend and I shared the Pancho's chicken appetizer, and that was enough to fill both of us up! They have a great happy hour and at $4.50, you can't beat that margarita special. However, the single best thing on the menu is the creamy jalapeño sauce. It is amazing and good on every item on the menu. My reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because I don't think their salsa is anything to write home about. September 27, 1:30pm. We asked for beef and chicken fajita. The fajita arrives and there is a BIG METAL SCREW in the fajita. We show it to the waitress, she calls the manager and rather than apologizing, the manager treats this as if it happens all the time, he said that it is an honest mistake and the screw belongs to the side of the cutting board. I am speechless after this answer. The manager was as if this has happened many times before. This is a great example of service failure recovery. The manager did not even say that he was sorry. I don't want to think about what could have happened if one of us mistakenly tried to chew that screw. read more

Before all the Nashvillians give me crap about liking this place because it's not a "hole in the wall" Mexican joint, let me start by saying I am from a city that is known for its AUTHENTIC Mexican food. I have yet to find that ANYWHERE in Nashville since I've lived here. So, since the bar is lowered on this side of the country, my fall-back is to just stick with Chevy's. But guess what? Utterly unacceptable. The Chuy's at Opry Mills is WONDERFUL and, if I hadn't eaten at that one multiple times to know what this restaurant is SUPPOSED to be like, I WOULD NOT BE GOING BACK TO ANY CHUY'S. I found a 1 INCH long, very exposed chicken bone (with cartilage still attached to one end) in my food tonight. If I'd bitten down on it, it probably would've broken a tooth. The bone even had a point on the non cartilage covered end! That's the kind of thing that, if swallowed, could EASILY puncture someone's windpipe and/or internal organs and such and do some serious damage...if not kill them (I'm HOPING someone would notice a bone that size while chewing and not swallow it, but...you never know). And d'you know what the waiter said when we informed him of this? He laughed and said, and I quote, "Oh, I had someone get a bone that size in their food last week. It happens all the time." Um, I don't know where the HECK that waiter has been eating, but no. NO. THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. ABSOLUTELY NOT. Little, thin bones get left in food on occasion. MAYBE. Bones that are almost as thick and long as my pinky, though? NO. And it CERTAINLY doesn't warrant a LAUGH. Here, we thought my mother getting sick after the last time we ate at THIS Chuy's was just a one time thing and decided to give it another shot...alas, poorly made food appears to just be what they do at THIS particular Chuy's. We'll be sticking to the Opry Mills restaurant from now on, where the service and food is GLORIOUS (something tells me the Opry waiters wouldn't LAUGH at you if you found a bone that size in your food, either). read more

The absolutely biggest problem I have with delivery ordering from this restaurant is their REFUSAL TO IDENTIFY THE ENTREES!!! Tonight we had 13 entrees. I order for a firm and we unpack and lay out the entrees for the people who ordered to come and pick up according to their names. When the items are not identified in some manner, we cannot do this easily, sometimes impossibly if there are two similar orders but with some kind of difference in the sauce or some such. I have called the restaurant directly and have had two different responses - one manager was rude and said absolutely NOT, the other apologetic and said he would make sure this was done. However, when the delivery driver gets there, the staff has some reason why they DON'T DO THIS - they a) aren't paid to do so; b) too busy to do so; c) aren't allowed to do so. Why isn't this a KITCHEN staff job??? Even if they don't speak English, they could mark SOMETHING on the item with a grease pencil!!! If the food weren't as good as it is, we would quit ordering from there. I HAVE boycotted them for a while, hoping for better. After tonight, I will probably do so again!!! read more

The Boom Boom and margaritas! My second time there yesterday went as follows... Parking: I drove by this place one Friday and cars were literally lined around the block. I am not kidding. Prepare for a long wait on busy nights. On the other hand, Monday pre-7pm parking was a breeze. Drinks: I tried the lime margarita... Yummers! There are drink specials before 7 so make sure you check that out. Chips: The salsa is good but don't forget the creamy jalapeno dip with the never ending supply of warm chips. Food: The food is good and the portions are HUGE. Four people shared four dishes last night (large chicken tortilla soup, Boom Boom, Fajitas and a Mexican salad). They were all delicious and the tortilla soup was comparable to Mas Tacos.... but way too much food left. I now have three to go boxes resting in my fridge. Maybe it was all just the chips we ate....... Dessert: I'm a girl. Dessert is a different category from food. Anyway, I have been lucky enough to have had dessert on the house both times I've been there! This time, it was someone at the table's birthday. Last time, just because. :) The fried pastries with honey is okay. The cake with syrup, ice cream? and strawberries (I obviously don't know what it's called) was really really good... I would have ordered that again. Noise: It is loud in there. It's a fun place but I wouldn't have intimate conversations here! Total: Four drinks, four dishes, three to go boxes, total $60. I've had this location twice- once in person and once through GoWaiter.com- both times were so yummy! The chips and salsa are perfection and the flavors on the dishes are true Tex-Mex delight. I came to Chuy's in midtown and was super stoked being from Austin Tx! However my experience was a let down. My Bartender Kelly was very attentive although he was super busy, I really appreciated that. Unfortunately there was a waitress, April that kept talking absurdly loud calling the customers "assholes" and how she had to "work" and she was counting the minutes till she was cut. I have been a server for many years in my past and would never have been so loud and blatantly rude in front of the customers. Been back a few times and must say that the food quality has declined slightly, and the service has declined markedly. Now, when we go, we stick to the bar, where we get great service (4 of 5 stars). What can I say about Chuy's that hasn't been said? Probably nothing, but I will give you my take on it anyway. A colleague and I hit up one of these in Austin, TX and we were pleasantly surprised to see that there were 2 in Nashville while traveling there on business. We went to the one on West End, and I have to say that the less than $5 top shelf margaritas at Happy Hour certainly made me happy. The staff was friendly and attentive, even though the place was packed. They were even concerned about my food allergies (the manager came out and we went through my menu choices and how certain menu items could be altered so that I could still enjoy them). The atmosphere was pretty laid back, and unlike most crowded places, no one tried to hustle us out of there as soon as we were halfway through our entrees. Speaking of the entrees, the portions are huge (esp. the burritos), so be prepared to carry it home with you. All in all, it was a good experience and I would definitely go back again. Especially if there was one in the town where I currently reside (Hint, hint...). read more

So tried Chuy's today for the first time in Nashville and it was not good. The service was good and so was the chips and salsa. The pico de gallo was better than most Mexican restaurants. I ordered the Tortilla Soup and it was the worst I had. It was too watery when is suppose to be thick and the chicken did not taste fresh. Overall, the food was ok at most and I probably won't be going back. There are many awesome Mexican restaurants out there and this is not one of them. read more

Of all the places we went to in Nashville, Chuy's was BY FAR my favorite. We came here before catching our flight but wished we had a whole day just to stay there! The decor is filled with framed dog pictures, hubcaps, and Elvis photos. You could literally stay all day just looking at the walls! We chose to sit at the bar where the most fantastic lady served us up drinks. I cannot remember her name but she was blonde and a PRO at her job. She served us up drinks and managed to get chips and salsa out from the behind the bar. THE SALSA IS TO DIE FOR! It is the perfect amount of heat and crunch. We also ordered the queso. It is more of a chile con carne and queso mix. Since we weren't sure if we had time for food, she asked if we wanted to do a sauce sample! All of the sauces she brought out were delicious! I LOVE Chuy's! I think the food is fresh and great. The Mexi-cobb salad is really good with lots of chicken and avocado galore. The creamy jalapeno is to die for. I always get a side to go with the chips (which are completely addictive). My boyfriend gets the Elvis' Green Chile Chicken, and it's always good. The kids menu is great with lots of options that are very affordable. The atmosphere is upbeat. The service is always good. The nacho buffet in the bar is great during happy hour!
