Of all the places we went to in Nashville, Chuy's was BY FAR my favorite. We came here before catching our flight but wished we had a whole day just to stay there! The decor is filled with framed dog pictures, hubcaps, and Elvis photos. You could literally stay all day just looking at the walls! We chose to sit at the bar where the most fantastic lady served us up drinks. I cannot remember her name but she was blonde and a PRO at her job. She served us up drinks and managed to get chips and salsa out from the behind the bar. THE SALSA IS TO DIE FOR! It is the perfect amount of heat and crunch. We also ordered the queso. It is more of a chile con carne and queso mix. Since we weren't sure if we had time for food, she asked if we wanted to do a sauce sample! All of the sauces she brought out were delicious! I LOVE Chuy's! I think the food is fresh and great. The Mexi-cobb salad is really good with lots of chicken and avocado galore. The creamy jalapeno is to die for. I always get a side to go with the chips (which are completely addictive). My boyfriend gets the Elvis' Green Chile Chicken, and it's always good. The kids menu is great with lots of options that are very affordable. The atmosphere is upbeat. The service is always good. The nacho buffet in the bar is great during happy hour! This is by far the most disappointing experience I have had at a Chuy's. It took 10 minutes to even get our drink orders. It took another 30 minutes to get food. Whilst in our meal the table next to us left due to not having an order taken and when they brought to food out the wait staff decided to attempt to resell the food. I've heard a fair amount of hype about Chuy's since moving to the Nashville area and decided to give their outdoor patio area a try. Their Midtown location is typically packed all the time so I felt like they must be doing something right. Their menu had all your stereotypic Tex-Mex options but was a little pricey. I tried one of their signature Margaritas which was just okay, it was stout but didn't really possess great flavor. Our server seemed a tad bit in the weeds but was able to guide us through the menu and make some good suggestions while working his entire section. The food had some large portions but like the drinks they lacked any distinctive flavor profile. I don't really know what to say about a place that brings chips to your table in an ice cube scooper. My friend ordered the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, aka the Boom Boom, and our entire table felt a sense of second-hand embarrassment. Unfortunately my quesadilla, while tasty, looked more like a snail wearing a tortilla snuggie. I would recommend ordering 3 margaritas at once based on order time and quality, and ignore the dastardly and judgmental reactions of your party. The decor is less Tex-Mex and more reminiscent of a swimming pool at a South Los Angeles trailer park. It helps to be a Vanderbilt student, and also doesn't help to be a Vanderbilt student. I know better than to expect authentic Mexican at a place like Chuy's, but I've enjoyed some decent food here and I love the open air bar so it's been a regular stop that's convenient to my hotel. Chips & salsa, and the service is still great, but like most corporate chains, cost cutting eventually wins out over food quality. The "stacked enchiladas" are a mass of heavy corn tortillas and a little bit of tasteless, probably microwaved, chicken. Have a beer & chips here, wander the awesome neighborhood for food. read more

Short and sweet. Go to the Cool Springs location. The Service at the Broadway location is horrible. I have been several times and it just gets worse and worse. The opening week was wonderful while the seasoned waiters and "lifeguard" staff were there, but the current staff could care less abut the customers and are more concerned about their facebook status. The last time I was there it took 30 minutes for a carryout order of chips and salsa and then she had the nerve to round my bill UP!!! pocketing 80 cents... I will never go back. This was the worst Mexican food experience for all of us. We were a party of 4. We have a good basis for comparison having lived in Houston and SoCal for many years. We have also experienced not-so-good Mexican food at other cities. However, this was the worst. Between us, we had enchiladas, fajitas, tacos, and burritos. We were not able to eat more than a few bites. The meat was stale and tough. The sides did not taste good. The chips were also stale. Service was essentially non-existent. The server never once inquired about drink refills. He also did not inquire on why none of us ate the food. Perhaps our experience was not typical; however, we will never consider returning to find out. read more

Bad Mexican food. The gift that keeps on giving. All night long! We should have walked out from the beginning. Four servers and the manager walked by us at the door until we asked if we should just take silverware and menus and seat ourselves. When the hostess did show up, well let's just say she won't be winning any congeniality awards. The booth was dirty. Under the table was full of napkins, etc. We placed our order then the fun started. We heard a loud crash and joked "hey, maybe that was our food?!" Turns out it was. Okay fine. It happens. They remade our food, brought it to the table and proceeded to drop a plate again. Close enough to where all four of us were literally wearing ranchero sauce. Had to ask for water refills three times and turns out, they only comped two dinners. Really? Turns out the stack of napkins in the floor under the table came in handy to wiped up the chunks of tomato and beans off our shoes! And, at the end of it all, the food wasn't even that good and I have to keep reliving it all night long!! Save yourself friends. Find somewhere else to eat. read more

I love Mexican food and I am pretty critical of it. I was impressed by Chuy's food. Their Mexican food is actually spicy and has tons of flavor. I love spicy food, the spicier the better but that is difficult to find in a mainstream Mexican joint it seems but Chuy's food had some good heat and flavor. The food quality is actually 5-star in my opinion, the only reason I did not leave 5 stars was that they crammed our party of 4 into a tiny high-top table in the bar section, it was a joke. Also their chips and salsa left something to be desired, the chips were good but the salsa was just ho hum average. I ordered some fresh green chili enchilada dinner that was delicious and as mentioned had some good heat. Chuy's in Midtown is a spot I frequent and have always felt welcomed by the service. It's prompt, the food is always done well, and even walking in being greeted by the staff is how you'd want to walk into any restaurant. But, a server named Christina should really check her attitude at the door when she comes in to work. I've never experienced any type of disrespect here, but I felt like an inconvenience to this woman. This time I was with friends and wasn't staying long having to be elsewhere, so I munched on chips. She grabbed my menu and rolled her eyes in front of us. I always order food, but since I wasn't going to be around long I just opted to snack. She still received a generous tip from the other meal that was ordered so I'm not sure why the rudeness was necessary. I love coming to Chuy's and have given them business for many years. Probably one of the best chile rellenos I've had at a tex-mex restaurant like this one--the breading was crispy and delicious. The enchilada was well made and the beans were soft and fresh. The weird blend of Mexican food and Elvis is somehow quite stimulating. Be careful, the chip/salsa is virtually bottomless, as is the jalapeno sauce (which I suspect is Ranch dressing with chopped up jalapeno bits in it), and they do enormous damages to my efforts to be in six-pack shape by Christmas. Pretty much everyone who lives in Nashville (or near any of their other locations) knows what the food is like. As others have said, it's Tex Mex, not authentic interior Mexican cuisine. That being said, it's some of the best Tex Mex we have in town. (I moved here from Texas and I miss it!) They have more than just your sad, standard variations of ground beef, cheddar cheese, and tortillas. This review is for the pick-up service. I was craving the creamy jalapeño dressing so I ordered a chicken taco salad through a delivery service. My taco salad was packed in a cake box! It was huge! The delivery guy said they had packaged it that way as to not break the taco shell. Honestly, if I'm ordering take out, I don't really mind a broken shell but I thought that really spoke to the level of service. They also included free chips and salsa (and another container of creamy jalapeño!) which never go to waste in an office full of people. The biggest waste of an hour of my life! Worst experience I've ever had, and we were only doing to-go! Seriously ruined my night and I'll never be back or recommend anyone to go here. Around 6:45, I Called in queso, tacos, and a chimichanga, and was so very looking forward to it. They told me 25 minutes max. When we arrived, we tried pulling into the ToGo curbside, when the Valet, layed on his horn at us, proceeded to pull up next to us, rolled down his window while in someone else's vehicle and aggressively says to us "what are you doing, picking someone up? Get out of here." We said actually were picking up a to go order.... we should have left then. I mean how rude. (Managers, check your cameras) After that, my boyfriend walked inside to grab the food. At this point It has been 40 minutes since I had called and placed the order so I thought surely it was ready. My boyfriend waited for ten minutes inside and had to ask two different employees about our to go order, just for someone to walk out saying they just dropped our food....... no sorry, no sincere apology, nothing. this whole ordeal took about an hour and we had to deal with rude employees that really just didn't care. Didn't even get our dinner. Spend your money elsewhere. We went down the street to Las Palmas (best Mexican restaurant ever) and had a great experience and a great dinner in about 25 minutes. Yes, it's 'chain food' but I'd consider it a cut above many Mexican restaurants I've been to in and around the Nashville area. The staff is friendly and the service is fast.
