I give it a 3.5 stars. The ambiance was super cute...nice and cozy with a fireplace. It wasn't a very large establishment, which adds to the coziness factor. The food was okay. It wasn't horrible but it also wasn't amazing. I got the chicken parmesan on top of alfredo. My eating companion got the catch of the day, which was mahi-mahi with smashed potatoes with asparagus. Our service wasn't great. Our waiter seemed to be off. Not sure if he was just having a bad day or what but I do feel like if affected the quality of our service. As a result, I won't be rushing back but if I'm in the area, I'm not opposed to giving it another shot. read more

I was recently here with friends for a cozy dinner on a chilly icy evening. The ambiance at Ciao is very comfortable and relaxed, so it was perfect for a girls' night out. Our server was superb! She was very friendly, relatable and cool. When we commented that we were surprised the restaurant didn't offer filtered water or even bottled water, she agreed with us that it didn't make sense in an upscale restaurant like Ciao- as opposed to the manager's more defensive reaction. Her overall demeanor was very chill while professional and efficient. By the way, they did offer San Pellegrino sparkling water at a price, of course. Our dinners were excellent! Our salads preceding our meal were very fresh and more than you would expect from a basic salad. I had a chicken Alfredo entree light on the sauce and it was perfectly delicious. Ciao used to be one of our favorite restaurants in Sylvania, but our recent visit was disappointing. The food felt uninspired and lacked flavor, and the pasta was overcooked and gooey rather than fresh or al dente. We left feeling that the quality has slipped significantly from what it once was. I hope they can recapture what made the restaurant special in the past. Our waiter, on the other hand, provided excellent service. read more

I don't ever post reviews, so I hope that shows you how mad I am. I first tried this restaurant 10 years ago for my dinner pre prom and didn't like it. From what I remember the food tasted awful and was just terrible all around. Fast forward to today, I ordered DoorDash to give them a try again. Now why would I do that? My coworker and I were just talking shit about this place this past week and wondered how they were still open. Mind you, I've only tried them once prior in my teens, so I figured I'd just give it another shot. My mistake. For context, I ordered the Oglio (have had better at other places, but that's not the point of this review) and the Asiago al Forno. What I received for the Asiago al Forno was a box of shredded cheese straight out of the bag and some bread. Now, having worked in the food industry, I understand food quality will be different when you order take out versus sitting down at the restaurant. I fucking do. But if this restaurant is so worried about how the quality of the food shows up to my place, maybe it shouldn't be up to order on DoorDash. Mind you, I've ordered baked/melted cheese from other places and have never had an issue. Exactly what they advertised is exactly what I got. But "Ciao!"? Lmao. What really gets me is how someone, chef/server/ whomever, thought that this was okay. You're charging me almost $17 (added tax) for this item and you want to play in my face, as a customer who was giving YOU another chance, for what? Poor food quality, poor service, do not waste your time here. There are way better Italian spots in Toledo that aren't a commercial mess. read more

We didn't really like anything during our visit. We came and sat in the bar area for happy hour and live music. The live music was nice, they sounded good. On the downside the martinis we ordered were not good. The food was not good and the service was not good. They are way overpriced for what they're offering. We had the wait at least ten minutes into our meal before our server came around to ask for Parmesan. At any other Italian place they bring it with the food and ask right away. Told manager nothing was really good when he asked and he just got aggressive and took my food since "I didn't like it" and didn't give any discount. I may have had a few more bites but that's okay he saved me from eating the disgusting food they prepared. They're so many other great restaurants in the same price category. Has a great experience overall at this restaurant. Our appetizers fell as little flat (calamari wasn't crispy and pizza was supposed to have mushrooms) but still were eaten and enjoyed by the table. The real star was the cheese wheel experience, which both looked and tasted excellent. As was the bolognese and dessert. Very affordable and great warm staff made this a must recommend. This place... Of all the restaurants in Toledo, this is one of the most confounding, inconsistent places I can think of. One visit, it's one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. Hands down, blows away Mancy's, Incorvia's, M-Osteria, Sebastiano's, Rosie's, etc. The thought and creativity in some of the dishes is so far beyond the others that it makes the competitors look like they're serving canned ravioli. Unfortunately, the next time, it's reminiscent of a sophomoric attempt at what a nice restaurant with fine dining should be. I've been disappointed here more times than happy or satisfied. It's frustrating as I know how good this place can be. This was a visit of satisfaction and fulfillment. They hit the mark every time on this visit. OUTSTANDING! Main Street Ventures (I believe that's the corporate name for the owner) is based out of Ann Arbor. Real Seafood, Zia's, The Chop House and the former Grazzi's are all theirs. There may be more places, but this is a fairly representative list of their restaurants. They use an on-line service for reservations (Resy???) that has a link on their website. I tried to make a reservation for 3 of us at 6:00 last Saturday with no success. I will say that Resy is a great thing. I've never had an issue with them. Now, I know they don't reserve the tables in the bar, so I thought we'd give it a try without a reservation. I really like sitting in the bar at Ciao as it has a nice vibe to it. Anyway, the hostess and dining room manager (?) greeted us at the reception desk and explained that they had no tables, but we were invited to grab seats at the bar, have a drink and a table should be available in 20-30 minutes. We took them up on the suggestion and low and behold, our table was ready by the time we were served our cocktails. I'd say it was no more than a 10-minute wait. My Martini was pretty good (I had to request it to be stirred and not shaken), but I ordered it dry and that's how it was made. Nice! We were seated in the bar and things just progressed very nicely. Our waitress was great (sorry, I can't remember her name, but she had long, blond hair and was just great). She didn't rush us but was available for requests/needs. Our water glasses were always full, extra bread was brought to the table pretty quickly, etc. The meal started and it was great. Started with the house salads and one of our dinner guests wanted the soup instead. The salads were wonderful - fresh, crips greens, gorgonzola cheese, and that nice balsamic vinaigrette. My only quibble is the croutons aren't homemade anymore. I was told the soup (Tuscan Tomato???) was great! The entrees... Two of us ordered the shrimp scampi with fettucine. The shrimp was cooked to perfection. the pasta was fresh pasta, and it was perfect too. The sauce was a nice balance of garlic, wine, lemon, sundried tomatoes, spinach, etc. The dish wasn't over-sauced, the garlic wasn't too strong, etc. It was as close to perfect as one could hope for! Absolutely delicious! The other dish was pollo mostarda. It's a chicken dish with figs, goat cheese and kale (WOW!). I believe the sauce is made of a wine (I didn't try it, but I bet it's a marsala wine) and a grainy mustard with some herbs, etc. It looked AMAZING. It's served with a deep-fried risotto cake (it could have been pan fried - either way, it looked delicious). I almost ordered it, but I really don't like kale. I guess they would have subbed spinach if I asked, but I really wanted the shrimp. Next time for the pollo! My dining companions split a chocolate mousse and said it was one of the best they've ever had. We all ordered coffee. The coffee wasn't that great. Tasted like Keurig. Weak, thin, no body, nothing great. So, I don't go here very often because it is expensive, yet inconsistent. Drinks are $10 bucks for the well booze. Entrees are $20-$40 depending on what you order, of course. Desserts are around $10 bucks, and coffee is something like $3.50. With the tip, it's an easy $50+++ per person. That's a lot of money for something that may be a huge disappointment. If it was consistent, I'd put this place back on the regular rotation. If you've not been, I would suggest trying it. The kitchen staff appears to be on top of their game and the floor manager is paying attention. The wait staff is doing a great job, and we had a wonderful time last Saturday. We started with the fried ravioli as an appetizer, which was decent. We attended during happy hour with live music, and while the music was enjoyable, the rest of the experience fell short. The server was polite but largely absent, and when she was available, her demeanor wasn't particularly friendly. I ordered the Alfredo with broccoli but wasn't able to get Parmesan until about 10 minutes into the meal. Both the espresso martini and the Cosmopolitan were of low quality, which added to the disappointment. The food, while visually appealing, lacked flavor. To make matters worse, there was an unpleasant smell of urine near the bathrooms, which was off-putting. This was my first visit, and sadly, it left such a poor impression that I don't plan to return. In fact, we ended up leaving and heading to another restaurant for dessert and drinks because the experience here just wasn't satisfying. read more

Our server Eddie was fantastic- super friendly, quick, knowledgeable, and made our dining experience spectacular. Honestly, I'm going to be thinking about this dinner for WEEKS. The fried ravioli... the fresh bread... the CREAMY GARLIC SALAD DRESSING. UGH!! The restaurant had an upscale vibe but was also comfortable and cozy at the same time. Ciao has excellent food! A great place for a free birthday meal. The table-side Alfredo is amazing! The filet was also top notch. The service is good, but their policy for reservations stink. You must call an hour and a half before the time needed. Even if there are tables available they will only seat you in the bar without a reservation. They don't open for lunch so you really need to make the reservation the day before. The ambiance is nice, but could use a little update. Maybe some bright white Italian pottery and get rid of the fake grape vines and bad art. Overall, a great experience. read more

I remember when Ciao opened. I was in high school, and it was a great location to have dinner on prom night. 30 years later, and it still fits that bill. The atmosphere is friendly and approachable, if not outdated, and the menu follows suit. Everything is textbook elevated American Italian fare, with very few risks being taken. The quality and execution are high, and the service is attentive and welcoming. As with all the restaurants involved with "Main Street Ventures" you'll find some issues, like the clunky and slightly malfunctioning digital menus, but overall, Ciao is a wonderfully predictable restaurant, perfect for a very casual evening out with friends or family. //////////// Ricordo quando aprì Ciao. The bartenders have always been nice, the waiters always friendly and the food always great. We try and branch out but there is a core of about 5 items that we just love to much. I have been eating at Caio for decades. I have had many excellent meals over that time. It had become one of my favorite local restaurants. Wednesday, September 10, 2025 was completely different. I ordered a small house salad and a bowl of one of my favorite dishes at Caio, Zuppa Toscana. Years ago, I bribed a waitress to get me the recipe so I know how it used to be made. No longer. Other than salt and pepper, there were 12 ingredients. Of those ingredients, 4 were completely absent. 2 were questionable, 1 had been changed and the others were minimally represented. It was basically a bowl of broth with a little carrot, onion and celery. Because of the many good meals, I'll try again. read more

I haven't left a 5 star review in a minute, and this makes me so happy! We rarely go out for a "nice family dinner" anymore. Typically we leave feeling underwhelmed and honestly a little ripped off. This time around the food was excellent! We came to the table with six of us. Every single plate was flawless. No one complained. No one's food was cold. Everyone's food came out at the same time. The pasta, perfection. The steak my friend ordered was cooked exactly as he requested and beautifully plated. The two fish dishes, superb. I had some of the best ravioli I've ever gotten. My husband had a shrimp pasta dish that was light and perfectly seasoned. I looked at it and expected it to be a little dry and flavorless. Those looks were deceiving because it was delicious. The service was, fantastic. We never had an empty glass. They were very attentive. The manager came to the table to check in on us as well. They have a full bar with a great wine selection. I didn't personally love the bread service, but that's only because I prefer, my olive oil to have some seasoning. I will say the olive oil for dipping was good quality- I just prefer mine with some flavor infusion or herbs. This was my first time here. When I lived in Sylvania, I drove by at least a half dozen times a week and never went in. My husband is not a big fan of Italian food (crazy I know) but this wasn't your run of the mill basic Italian food. The restaurant was very clean. The tables were nicely set. I loved the wine bottle chandeliers. This would be an excellent spot for a date night or business dinner. It was on the pricier side for our typical family dinners ( $95 for two of us with one drink each and no desserts or appetizers) , but I don't mind paying for good food, good service, generous portions, and an overall great experience read more

Nice cozy little Italian place just off of the highway exit. The food was delicious! We started with a Asiago cheese dip that was amazing! I have d the lamb chops with potatoes, spinach and asparagus. There was some sort of mint sauce on the plate as well. Very good! My wife had the chicken Marsala and she raves about it. Not my type of dish though. The side salads seemed like an afterthought. It was mixed greens with a cherry tomato cut in half and two croutons. It wasn't awful, just seemed like they were saying here's a small salad to hold ya over. Wasn't impressed with that to say the least. One thing that did bother us was the manager. He would walk around talk to tables and he was VERY loud. He would stand there and talk to a table for over five minutes. Not about food or their dinning experience either just random stuff. It really took away from our evening and experience. This would have been at least four stars if it wasn't for the manager. We would go back if we knew for sure he wasn't going to be there. As far as Italian restaurants go, Ciao is average. My last couple meals have been less impressive than the previous couple to be honest. It's always busy and the food is ok but not great.
