This was my second time dining at Marcel's. It is located in Sylvania's Saxon Square, an upscale strip mall. It is a very nice restaurant in an understated way. The ambiance is very intimate and I definitely recommend reservations because the dining area is on the smaller side. So... I made reservations for a party of three on Marcel's website and yet the reservation didn't make it to the restaurant's reservation list... Yikes! Yet they were able to accommodate us, fortunately. We didn't realize it at first, but Chef Marcel's wife was our server. How lucky is she to eat so well on the regular?! She was very gracious and patient in tending to our table and answering our questions. Very lovely and down-to-earth! While Chef Marcel is known for visiting with customers, he was too busy iIn the kitchen when we were there. We started with the stuffed large portobello mushroom as an appetizer. It included beets and was delicious. No picture because we were hungry, but check out photos of the rest of our dinners! I should note that my two friends enjoyed the complimentary bread and raved about it. I held out for the appetizer, but the bread looked delicious. Two of us went with the weekly special of mahi mahi, which included a salad of mixed greens. The mahi mahi was served on tortilla shells with rice, black beans and cilantro. It was a unique combination that was delicious. Our other friend opted for the chicken marsala with button mushrooms over rigatoni.. She also ordered the brussel sprouts as a side and loved them. While the desserts looked amazing, we passed tonight because our dinners left us no room for dessert! We first came here for Valentine's Day and then just popped in tonight. We made reservations and had a table for 2 along the wall with beautiful hanging pictures of out west scenery. We had the same server on both nights which I forgot her name but she's amazing! She's friendly and paces the service just right. And I like when she suggests her favorites on the menu. On both nights I ordered the butternut squash but tonight I ordered it without chicken and I like it better without it! I think I tasted more of the flavors blending together especially with the apples and onions. I tried the wedge salad, so delicious especially with the candied pecans. My husband had the salmon bisque soup and the grouper for dinner. I had a bite of the broccoli and the polenta with a taste of the grouper and it was really good with a slight kick! The grouper was meaty and mild. Of course we had to have dessert even after a bottle of prosecco! We tried the pineapple carrot cake and the chocolate Panna cotta for the second time. I highly recommend both, the pineapple is a perfect ingredient! I'm excited to see what the spring menu will bring and to return to try the Korean bbq steak and have more of the Dutch Bitterballen! Celebrating perfection! We went last night to celebrate my friend's birthday, and what an amazing surprise! Everything -- absolutely everything -- was perfect. Not a single dish disappointed us. The flavors were clean, balanced, and full of freshness. We started with the appetizer of the day (a delicious beet creation ), then shared the Dutch-style beef -- wow! There were four of us, and we all ordered something different: Korean steak, Mediterranean chicken, cauliflower steak, and salmon. Each one was just as delicious as the other -- impossible to pick a favorite! Excellent work, Chef, and your team too -- you were all wonderful! Highly recommended. read more

I met Chef at a function at The Toledo Zoo and he is an amazing Chef. We dine here, for the first time, on our 3rd anniversary and it was wonderful. Having read the one star review, I'll try to give my opinion. The portions at Marcel's are perfectly fine. In fact, I usually have a little left over to take home. I have never left feeling like I didn't have enough food, and I am not a small man. As for the seasoning, each dish has its own wonderful and unique flavors, some with delicious fresh made sauces. If someone feels the need to salt everything, good for them. Wouldn't you rather have your food prepared with less seasoning than too much? You can't take off excess seasoning. I'm done with my unsolicited rebuttal of the one star review. Marcel's has become a favorite date night experience for my wife and I. The ambiance is intimate and comfortably elegant. The staff are incredibly friendly and respectful. Chef Marcel, even though clearly busy most of the time, still makes his way to all of his customers to say hello and ask if they are enjoying the experience, and if there's anything he can do to make it better. It's a personal touch that you won't often get in a restaurant. Sylvania is very fortunate to have this wonderful restaurant. I'm giving 5 stars because 10 isn't an option. So, do yourselves a favor, and go enjoy a wonderful meal at Marcel's. read more

Enjoyed an evening at this lovely eatery off Sylvania Avenue & wanted to share how impressed we 3 guests were with the warm hospitality and exquisite food. We appreciated the uniqueness of the dishes offered as well as not having to wade through too many options. One of us enjoyed the salmon (with the amazing dried-fruit quiche), one the mediterranean grilled chicken, and one the vegetarian cauliflower dish. Each was a unique plate of culinary delight without in any way being pretentious or over-the-top. Just very creative, with flavors that blended well, and prepared (and served) with great care. We intend to go back often not only for dinner but also to enjoy the coffee and the desserts -- we saw some being served and noted how beautifully artistic they looked! Tried Marcel's for the first time tonight (it's where the old Charlie's Italian was). Ordered the Dutch Meatballs, the small filet and a NY strip steak. The meatballs were tasty. You only get 4 small meatballs so it was perfect for the two of us. The filet comes with French fries. The steak was perfectly seasoned and melt in your mouth tender. Fries were good too. The NY strip steak was very tender and my husband said it was the best he's ever had. That came with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Chef came out and introduced himself. We will definitely be back and highly recommend. read more

What a wonderful dinner Chef Marcel created for us. Everything was delicious -winter salad, Braised short ribs on top of creamy cheese au gratin and maple caramelized carrots. Luckily he brought bread-as I forgot and it was delicious also. Chocolate mocha panna cotta for desert- perfect!!! Marcel's is the perfect place to enjoy a delicious meal and visit with friends. The food was beautifully presented, and delicious. The filet was perfectly prepared, the sauce was a lovely complement. Service was just what you want, attentive and non intrusive, allowing you to savor the meal and have conversation with friends. Loved that the chef made his way to our table, a nice personal touch. The menu is sadly limited. All the entree's, salads and side dishes are extremely under seasoned. Everyone added salt to their dishes. The wait staff knows absolutely nothing about the menu. They market C.A.B. beef but the server didn't know it means Certified Angus Beef. The portions are small & I left hangry. The dessert menu is a joke. Don't waste your time & money. read more
