We lucked out on this restaurant finding it while exploring quebec. We are not foodies or fine dining people but the menu sounded good and the prices were reasonable. I got the Table D'Hote that started with a plate of terrine and confits. There were 6 components to this dish, not including the bread and butter that we ate with it. - chicken mousse with apple cider - kangaroo with currents - duck a l'orange - confit of turnip with ginger - confit of carrot - spicy dijon mustard I thought i'd made a mistake with the first bite, but after the 2nd bite i realized it wasn't bad and by the third bite i was hooked. This was delicious. It was food that you didn't want to rush but savor bite by bite, slow chew by chew. This platter goes down as one of the best dishes i've ever had. It really deserved more than 5 stars i can give it. I like terrines but don't often get to have them. It's not my wife's thing, but she was matching me bite for bite. it was that good. Not sure where the butter came from but it was the best we'd ever had so thought it deserved a mention (who'd a thought one butter could stand so high above the rest). this was followed by a creamed leek soup with plenty of flavor. for a main i had a salmon filet with citrus butter and capers. This came with a side of pasta with basil and olive oil. the salmon was a bit dry at the thin end but excellent for the other 90% (it's fish shaped one end will be thinner and cook quicker). The pasta was al dente and the sauce light. My wife had the Linguine Ciccio a pasta with cream, tomato, italian ham, muchrooms and parmesan cheese. It had a full flavor without being overly rich. we topped off the evening with a creme brulee. it was toasted and the spoon went in with a crunch just like it's supposed to. The service deserves special mention as it also was one of the best we've had anywhere. there are 4 or 5 waiters floating around the room and all of them seemed at our disposal. water topped off, bread brought any question we had was answered by who we asked and not (let me send your waiter). after ordering i asked a server if he'd would grab out waiter for us. Instead he asked what i needed and when i said i would like to change my rice for pasta if it wasn't too late he ran of to the kitchen to take care of it. Then came back to tell me it was all sorted. Our only disappointment is that we came back on our last night in quebec only to find they were closed due to it being labor day. This was an excellent find thanks to the previous reviews on Yelp! Our family truly enjoyed the whole experience: the food, service and ambiance. We are American and Rafael spoke perfect English answering all of our questions:) The minestrone was sooo good full of vegetables and tortellini. We also loved the linguine with clams, the penne in puttanesca sauce, spaghetti with lemon and pepper and the stuffed veal tortellini in a creamy tomato sauce. It was all so delicious we are heading back in two days for more!! We are so glad we discovered this restaurant on our first night in Quebec City!!! read more

I hate to be in the minority here, but this was just so-so for us. The place is warm and inviting, and feels like old school Italian. Service is impeccable. So why didn't we love it? To me, Italian restaurants live and die by their tomato sauce. This tomato sauce is more like a cacciatore than a true red sauce. That might be fine for some applications, but, for us, it didn't work with the arancini or veal parmigiana. The caesar was pretty heavily dressed. But the spaghetti with lemon and pepper was fantastic...our favorite offering of the night. read more

Sometimes you're in the right place at the right time. This throwback to 1960s/1970s Italian restauranteur supremacy will not disappoint although it took us by surprise in the best ways. Just off the main drag if Rue St Jean, up the steepest street in all of Quebec city, make the journey. Eating in restaurants at least once per day, this was the beat service and perhaps the best food I have had all year! Small and welcoming, I'd gladly return every week for a new dish from Ciccio. Delicious home baked bread appeared without asking, attentive but not hovering service delivered winning dish after dish. Vegetable soup followed by eggplant parmigiana followed by an incredible pasta de mare and coffee came as a menu de hotel at a bargain price. I can't recommend more highly! Buon appetito! The services was great. Felt like owners managing the dinning room. 12 tables, kids have the Cesar salad a 9. Pastas were great, veal-parm. Was tender and done well, tender. Son loved his lemon pasta. Pace was perfect. Music was strange but quiet, went from classic Italian to country to modern electronic. It was really an enjoyable dinner. Overall 4.5. Great food and great service. I absolutely appreciate when the water glass and the bread basket are never empty, and you never have to ask. This off-the-main-street restaurant is amazing! The ambiance is very cozy and romantic. We ordered two pasta dishes that were simply delicious. The spaghetti with tomato sauce and basil was very fresh and simple, without being boring. The spaghetti with lemon and pepper was simply incredible - so unique and memorable, the lemon taste was perfect. This is probably the best Italian food you'll find in Old Quebec, at a very affordable price. Would definitely return. read more

This is really a winner. Tucked away on a side street, we found it on a Monday night with one other diner. The food was outstanding. The service was warm and attentive, making for a very nice evening. Unusual for an Italian restaurant, they had a selection of draft beer. The next night was bitter cold and we trudge up and down Rue St Jean not finding much to our liking and what do you know, we decided to head back to Ciccio's. Stay away. Probably the worst Italian food I've had in my entire life. I ordered a green salad and a main course. What's the side on the main course? The exact same salad in approximately the same portion. What rocket scientist decided to serve me two green salads? Why didn't the server mention the same salad was part of the main course. Tho the two reviews here were old, we went anyway bc it was a block from our airbnb. It was a wonderful dining experience! White tablecloths, soothing background music, waitstaff dressed in black - classy but not stuffy. Waitress spoke English, offered us English menus (we found QC to be VERY French). Food was about the best we've had in Canada. My salmon Grenobloise was tender and moist, and the seasoning was terrific. My wife's veal dish was likewise mouth-watering. AND the veggies were delicious - not an afterthot or plate-fillers. Bread consisted of sliced baguette, not dinner rolls. Water glasses were continually filled. They even lighted the little candle without being asked: they tended to the details that set top restos apart. Wines by the glass were good, not great. Ditto the apple pie. But cappuccino was great. I would give them 4.5 stars but 5 is fine. We would happily go back! read more

Read the very positive reviews and decided to take our family of six, two seniors two adults and two kids, for our last meal in Quebec city. All six of us felt that the reviews were justified. We started with the calamari as appetizer in a perfectly fried battered crust and a tangy dipping sauce. The linguine ciccio had a robust and deliciously flavored sauce worthy of finishing with the bread provided. The linguine garlic pasta with clams and the veal meat balls with linguine were delicious and finished off by Grammy and grand-daughter who normally don't finish their main dishes. The veal scallopini with pasta was a winner also. The classy understated ambiance is a charming blend of brick wall, wood accents, low ceiling, table clothes and table lamps. The service was attentative and timely. All in all it topped off a wonderful Quebec City experience. read more

As this place was recommended on Yelp, I gave it a try and yes, it fulfilled all the expectations. It's a bit off track from the typical tourist track, but it's really worth the detour! This is one of a few restaurants where you still have a classic Quebec experience at reasonable prices. Lot's of great pasta choices under $18, salmon tartare for $13 and Table d'hôte menus from $30 to $36 with escargots and other goodies. Loved the food, the service and the classic ambiance with real oil lamps. This place is great for a romantic evening when it snows outside. read more

Great Italian food! Pastas are fresh and cooked to al dente with a variety of sauces, vegetables and meats. The steak was so tender and melt in your mouth goodness!!! Very cute little Italian Restaurant on a side street of the bustling Saint-Jean-Baptiste neighborhood. We found this place by total accident. At first glance, it appears it could be a little too pretentious with it's white linen table clothes, but proved to be anything but. We actually called before entering to see if we needed reservations and they told us to come in 30 minutes. As we entered, they gladly took us in with warm smiles. I had the pasta carbonara, which was simple, yet rich, creamy and wonderful! It was with a chopped smoked ham, instead of a bacon...a wonderful surprise and change from what I'm used to. My boyfriend had the veal meatballs which were draped in a lush, dark gravy perched on top of a mound of spaghetti. It was very flavorful and the meat was cooked perfectly. Just happened to walk by this restaurant, which is located on a side street, in the upper town of Quebec City. We decided to try our luck one Saturday night, even though we didn't have reservations and restaurant looked full, and were told they would accommodate us. Ten minutes later we were seated at a quaint table for 2. Everything on the menu sounded delicious. We got to meet the lovely owner of the restaurant, Rosetta who told us her and her Italian family own the restaurant and run it. We had the Cesare salad and arancini as appetizers, and both were absolutely delicious. As a main course we had spaghetti al pomodoro and veal piccata al limone. The spaghetti was a taste of Italy (I'm Italian) and the veal was so flavourful and it melted in your mouth, both fantastic. We had a decently priced bottle of good wine and ended our meal with a creme caramel, espresso and a shot of sambucca, which was the perfect ending to an absolutely wonderful evening. All staff were amazing, friendly and attentive. Definitely would give this restaurant a 5+ if I could. We very highly recommend!! read more

Cafe Ciccio offers delicious, affordable Italian food in a warm, friendly neighborhood atmosphere. This was the best meal we had in Quebec City,in no small part because of the great wait staff, excellent wine list, and attention to the details that make a dining experience memorable. Max, our waiter, was very personable and quick to explain menu items and offer recommendations. We has a wonderful appetizer, on his recommendation -- a won ton filled with pork, shrimp and veggies and deep fried. Very surprising at an Italian restaurant but delicious. The house salads were generous and entrees, steak for my friend and pasta two ways for me, were perfectly prepared. A mid-price Chianti was the perfect pairing for this meal. Dessert was a very good crime brûlée and a sample of "sugar pie" which was like pecan pie without the pecans. Everything works at this local gem! Check it out! read more
