So I can't stand reviews that are based on niche issues or a poor service. Reviews should be culinarily based, right, that's the reason you're checking reviews. That being said Ciccios isn't on the downward trend they're sitting at the bottom. I used to love their pizza and now it is reminiscent of a Poconos based summer camps cafeteria pizza, plastic cheese and all. Every pizzeria has a below the bar pie come out now and then but this pie was engineered to be gross, you could taste every corner Ciccio's cut to produce this atrocity. I really hope it's because of the current economic climate and not because they sold out. Maybe one day they may return but for now it's a CicciNoooo. read more

This is my "go to to-go" slice when I'm in South Plainfield. The crust tastes good, but is almost too thin as the tip sag forces you to fold it back over itself before you fold the slice to eat it. The pepperoni is a bit greasy, so do not try to eat the slices while driving unless you wear a bib. Two slices are going to set you back over $5 these days. Now, on to the hot sandos... I get pizza steaks, sausage, and/or the various meatball varieties. The fresh bread makes the sandwich worth the trip. The sauce is fresh and flavorful and the other ingredients are fresh. My boyfriend and I recently moved to South Plainfield and we were in the mood for some pizza. We've heard that Ciccio's is one of the best in town so we decide to given them a try. We ordered a pepperoni pie and mild buffalo wings. The pizza was pretty standard. I wouldn't call them the best but it satisfies a craving. We really loved the wings! They had a good flavor to them. One of the BEST pizzeria's around. They use all fresh ingredients. Pretty much anything you order from their menu is AMAZING! First time stopping by, I was looking for something to have for lunch while I enjoyed the sunny day in Spring Lake Park since I happened to be in the area. They had a nice assortment of slices available so I went with my usual favorites the white and a sausage. I thought it was a bargain $6 and change with a drink included. The woman at the counter was very friendly too! When I finally ate my pizza at the park it was crisp and delicious. Now I definitely know where to go for pizza when I'm back in the area. No idea how long Ciccios has been open but I have been coming here for over 30 years. This is what you think of when you think of a local pizza place. Lots of table for people to hang out and order a slice, a friendly staff not to mention all the standards for an Italian restaurant. They make a good pizza but I really come here for their dinners. Yes, it is a typical pizza place. I did not notice anything that makes it unique and maybe that is one of the good points. You get what you expect coming in and the food is good. The other nice thing is there is a relatively large parking lot for the strip mall it is in and it seems to be one of the quieter ones. Bottom line, easy to get to and a nice place to go. read more

I ordered @ 9:15pm on Sunday and they treated it as I ordered 5 mins after opening. No matter what you need they least treat every order like it's a family order. The food is great and the pizza is off the chain. The family is straight from Italy and they make the food like they are back home. Each pasta dish is made to order and nothing is mass produced. It's just real comfort Italian. I asked for extra fresh Mozzarella and basil and without question it was done. read more

This review is gonna be a bit late cause I went here over a month ago but anyways it was first time here and ordered an eggplant parm sub and asked the guy if they had Buffalo chicken slice. The guy goes I can make you one. Me not knowing that he would just take the chicken slice that's sitting in the front display go to the back and just drizzle some hot sauce on it , I said yes okay. The guy came back and all you could taste is Buffalo sauce. I didn't wanna be rude so just ate it. But it's a joke. Like if you don't have something then just be honest and say that you don't instead of trying to make something that isn't. The slice did not look like Buffalo chicken slice nor did it taste like one. I DO NOT recommend it at all. If you really wanna eat Buffalo chicken slice go to another pizzeria. My husband and i are visiting his hometown from Ct, while exploring we stumbled upon this place. The pizza is thin crust and not greasy or heavy at all and the cold cut sandwich was the best i ever had. After eating my husband and i went back to order two more sandwiches to bring back to CT with us. Ciccio's pizza keep doing what you are doing and we will be back trust us. After driving for over three hours straight, I was starving and looking for something other than highway fast food to eat. Making my way to my destination on local roads, I stopped at the first pizza place I saw, super hungry for at least a slice of pizza, and possibly a hot sandwich. As I'm standing at the counter, I look over at the pizzas on display and see a cockroach casually walking around the counter...and walk underneath a tray with a pizza on top. I tell the girl at the cash register..."uhm...I just saw a cockroach walk under the pizza tray." She lifts the tray, with the pizza, and sure enough, the roach is still walking around. She takes a rag, and pushes the roach across the counter, into the glass display, and squishes it to death. I was so hungry that I almost stayed, but thought better of it. "Actually, I gotta go. Sorry." I turned around and left. I figured if I saw one roach, there's gotta be a lot more that I don't see, and I didn't want to take any chances. Eat at your own risk. read more

Young females cashier (family member) apparently doesn't know how to properly interact with customers. Has an attitude and treats you like you're an inconvenience. Pizza is sub-par. For an Italian owner I am incredibly disappointed. I come from NYC, so when I saw a pizzeria in Jersey with an Italian owner I thought to myself that this is going to be great pizza (there are tons with polish owners, Mexican owners, etc - not that I have anything against other ethnicities, but if you walk into a Chinese restaurant and find it is owned and made by Indians, you will question the quality). I couldn't even eat the pizza. I threw it away. I work only a couple blocks away so I figured I would give it another chance... big mistake! It was even worse on the second go - round. I will NOT be making the same mistake again! The young female cashier is the owners daughter. She's never been disrespectful toward me, but she isn't exactly friendly either. The owner sits in the back chit chatting with the same group of men every time I've walked in. Yes, I've only eaten the pizza twice - but I do stop in from time to time and grab a snapple. I have long hopped to find a pizzaria that wa as good as the one from my childhood. Ciccio's is it. Their pizza is so good - IMO on of the best in NJ and certainly my current favorite. Everything is just right. Right amount of thickness (not doughy), sauce and cheese. I see two Italian gentlemen's making them and that is certainly reassuring. Great local family-owned spot with excellent friendly service. Perfect for impromptu picnics as it's conveniently located across from Spring Lake Park. Our go-to pizza toppings are the Caesar salad with chicken, buffalo chicken, sausage and pepperoni. This has been a great debate in the area for quite sometime. "Who has better pizza in the area?" With each parlor having their own secret way of throwing a pie together,. Ciccio's finds them self with a unique flavor all their own. The cheese proportion is just right, the sauce has a sweet after-taste, and the crust is more chewier than crispy. This pizza was ok, but nothing special. The slices in the window were pretty standard, and even included a "chicken" which was literally just a chicken cutlet, cut up and thrown over a pizza. Like, at least toss in in sauce and call it a buffalo slice no? Anyway, I got a veg slice and the plain chicken slice. The slices themselves were pretty big, but both went floppy. It was weird, there was a good crunch in the crust and tip of both slices, but the middles were a greasy, oily slop fest. Nothing special here. read more

This is South Plainfield's 2nd best pizza. The crust is awesome and the toppings are plentiful. The Strombolis here are also great. They have a multitude of hot and cold subs too. A personal favorite of mine is the meatball parm sub. Ciccio's has the best one in the area. You can't go wrong whether you just want a slice or something a little more substantial. read more

It's has the old-fashioned pizzeria-style bench seats, they serve zeppoli's on Friday's and Saturday's, the slices taste great right out of the oven and they even make a Pizza Hero...which is your typical hoagie/sub roll filled with cheese and pizza sauce like a sandwich. I love it when typical run of the mill pizzerias have good bread! The husband ordered a pepperoni slice and a cheese steak. Pizza is your typical NY style, oily, and greasy pizza. I wouldn't have it any other way when I come home to visit. However, this is the first time we ordered something other than pizza. Got a cheese-steak with all the fixings and it was delicious! It was filled with ooy--gooy cheese on a nice French-style baguette. Not the typical soft Italian rolls. This really adds texture tot he cheese-steak, the crust on the bread.. wow.
