    Garlic tots

Came here on a friday night for dinner. The place is really chill. We ordered the penne vodka with chicken, angelinas pizza with pepperoni, and garlic tots. The food came out pretty quickly. Everything was delicious and the services was great. I would defiantly be back.

Was in South Plainfield for a wake and decided to grab a bite afterwards. A quick yelp check of popular eateries in the area, and Angelina's Tavern, only a few doors away looked promising. The reviews were on the money. Rustic looking, half dive bar, old school looking joint with a full bar and a separate dining room in the back. Ultra casual vibe throughout, not very large dining area, with plain wooden tables placed around the room. I guess cozy, comfortable, and homey would be my call. Decor was very simple, but just right for this ambiance. I wasn't looking for elegant dining, just good solid food, and of course, pizza. Plus, they have a good sized parking lot, which is always a plus. Very hospitable, quick, and friendly service. Kudos to our efficient waitress who was very busy as the tables were mostly filled, but managed to stay on top of everything. The shared appetizers were delicious (shrimp special, Arancini, and fried Calamari ), but the star of the show was the wood fired, classic Grandma Pie ( also comes Sicilian style if that's your preference). The pie was excellent, and a great companion to my cold bottle of Heineken beer. Generously sized, perfectly seasoned, nice crispy, crunchy crust and undercarriage, with a tasty sauce and cheese topping. It all married together very nicely. It was satisfying and satiating, and not a bite was left. ***Note: The Grandma Pie is not on the menu, but my initial check on this place revealed that if you asked for it they would make it for you special. If you know, you know! All in all, in was a good stop and was glad that we stopped in. Thank you Angelina's! 04/27/2025

Since I was never was here before and it's within walking distance of my home I finally got around to going. You pretty can sit anywhere you want either at the bar area or the dining room they don't seem to hardcore about assigned seats. The downside of the dining room is it's in the same room with the pizza over so it's gets hot they had ceiling fans on but it was still very warm.My waitress was very nice I started off with the meatballs they were good but what stole the show from them was the bread that came with them for dipping. It was soft and light and tasted amazing. The main dish was the parma pizza. It was very good you can never go wrong with anything with prosciutto and mozzarella. It was thin crust but was sturdy enough to be picked up. My only complaint was that the sauce was too watery for my liking but it didn't derail the dish. Overall it's a nice local joint not upscale but not a grease spoon spot either. It's nice place if you're in the area

Quaint, cozy Tavern. You are properly welcomed into establishment. Everyone is very friendly, family owned business. Cooks, waitresses, and bartenders all part of the family. We were recommended by a friend small world. Everybody knew everybody from our town although location is in South Plainfield Family is from town, which is where we're from. Food selection was great. Generously priced along with the alcoholic beverages. Everything we ordered was very satisfying. Nice big portion definitely took home. They gave us dessert on the house which was freshly made cannolis. (Yum) They have a parking lot on premises. Afterwords, we went to the bar to have some drinks overall it was a very welcoming & enjoyable Friday night experience and will definitely go back!

A solid Italian spot that isn't takeout. Plenty of parking. Love that the bar and restaurant portion are separate rooms. Service was phenomenal. Multiple people kept checking in on us. Everything came out super fast. Very reasonably priced. Eggplant rollatini wasn't the best texture but eggplant is tricky. Flavors were delicious. Penne vodka was good. Could have used more sauce. I ordered it spicy and there was no heat. The bread that came for the table wasn't my favorite - the sesame seeds weren't necessary. The meatball appetizer was fantastic. The fried pizza dough it came with was a game changer. Cocktail was good. The whole place reminds me almost of a dive bar vibe but more elegant. Will definitely come back.

What a find! We were thinking about heading out to that pizza spot in Raritan but they seemed to get pretty arrogant on their website based on a pizza review, so we decided to find a more local joint. And holy smokes, Angelina's tavern has such a local vibe - the servers and staff are super friendly and helpful. Was blown away by the food! The pizza was way up there with some of my favorites. Great flavor, crust, fresh ingredients - only complaint was the pizza interior was a bit liquidly, which doesn't make for great cold pizza for breakfast, so just finish it there. But check out the photo I attached. Also the penne vodka w/chx was fantastic. I recommended Angelina's to my North Jersey Italian friends, and I can't wait to come back.

What a great neighborhood joint. This is our second visit and it's got such a great family vibe. Food is good - classic home style Italian. We enjoyed the pizzas and the service is great.

    Buffalo "barely" chicken

We usually order 5 specialty pizzas twice a month and barely any chicken on the buffalo. Can't believe the price increase! (Almost $20 total). Plus they discontinued some of the pies we loved. So disappointing since the pizzas were delicious.

Great vibe, great service, great people. I went with a friend and we got a few drinks, an app, and 2 entrees. We had a really pleasant dinner with generous servings and tasty drinks. I personally really liked the martini and the penne vodka.

Lopsided looking Margherita pizza. Cheese slices too thick, too much sauce layered on. Burnt crust on one end...
    Curtis Y.

I was so excited to see the brick oven, but the head chef must've taken a break today. My margherita pizza was very bland. I couldn't taste salt in the dough, nor in the margherita sauce. Moreso, the margherita sauce was too watery, and mozzerella slices were too thick. Picking up a slice, the overfill of sauce drips, making the experience disappointing. One end of the pizza was cooked too long on the hot end, pretty burnt. Didn't look like the nice symmetrical pizza I see on their Instagram posts, as mine was lopsided looking. The arancini balls made up for this experience. Very good, love the vodka sauce and meat stuffing, standard. I may give this place a try again, as their penne vodka with shrimp and octopus look really good. Please re-train your pizza maker, this kind of pizza should not have even reached the takeout box..

Over the years I have heard nothing but good from friends -- "Excellent" "Exactly like they make it in Florence!" "Best Italian food I've ever tasted." I went with a party of four. For appetizers we split the Polpo E Patate (grilled octopus & potatoes) and Patate Fritte (French fries). The octopus was amazing, tender almost like perfect scallops with a tasty pesto. The French fries with herbs, garlic bread crumbs and pesto were crunchy, tasty, delicious. For mains my companions had Branzino with eggplant carponata, an amazing 4-cheese Gnocchi, and swordfish. I tasted all, and all were spot on; everyone loved their main course. I had Linguini Vongole (clams and linguini); the clams were perfect - tender and tasty; but the star of the show was the homemade linguine, seasoned perfectly and cooked to al dente perfection. We finished with cappuccino and Tiramasu. The service was excellent. Attentive and quick, and our waitress, Merin, was able to answer every question about the menu with authority, and even about the ingredients and preparation. The ambiance is understated, relaxed, and what you hope for when enjoying a special meal. I am quite stingy in passing out 5-Star ratings; I reserve them for the best of the best, for restaurants where I'm confident readers will also enjoy an outstanding meal. Mangia Toscano is clearly 5-Star; it is *the* must-do restaurant in Metuchen.

Their stock answer was humorous after hearing it recites by all three servers: "It's in the oven" I guess practice makes perfect. Standard salad with balsamic, same as every mid pizza/food place I have been before. Red snapper special was way tough on the outside, like chewing leather that you never would really want to eat?! Best thing here was the pork chop, sweet spicy peppers, with onions yummy brown sauce, although the pork was a tad overdone. Overall, this place is a pass.
