I have nothing bad to say about Tony's in Planfield. I flew home from LA and wife was craving good Italian. We got penne a la vodka, cold anti pasta plate, fried ravioli and my son wanted fries. The sauce they make for the ravioli was spicy as advertised. Pasta was great. The plate of cold apps had fresh mozzarella, sharp provolone, cucumber, peppers, olives, salami and soppressata. The meatball parm sub is my go to order and is consistently good. Good meat to sauce to cheese ratio. I've gotten some of their steak sandwiches as well over the years which are also yummy. The pizza was dry and not good at all. I have been a customer for many years and I don't usually complain but this pizza was that bad. My brother picked the pizza up for me and when I called them all they kept saying was they wanted to talk to my brother. I explained he just did me a favor picking it up, he is not eating pizza these days. Meant nothing to Tony's they wanted to speak to my brother. The sauce did not taste fresh, the cheese was dry like a bone around the pizza, the dough was not very good either. I went in to get a Chicken parm but I got a chicken parm that was fried to the point it was card board. They threw a ton of sauce and cheese on top melted it and charged me $15. They said please sit by the area where you can be served. The waitress did not give us any silverware. My wife had ordered a slice of pizza which came on a paper plate. We had to go fishing for our own garlic as the wait staff was no where to be found. My some had ordered a soda which came with a fly. This place does make good pizza but that is about it. read more

Pretty disappointed with the pizza given the high reviews here. The sausage thin-crust slice I was was SUPER thin... like the crust cracked when folding the za. I hate that. Meanwhile, the other specialty slices I tried were all done sort of deep dish style... but weren't really thick enough. The Sicilian slice in particular was just too thin. Wife picked these up, and told me the selection on a Saturday around 5pm was limited. That's gotta be prime time for pizza slices. One slice she brought home was just grilled chicken. WTF is that? I work in Edison and Tony's is a favorite lunch stop for me and the guys I work with. The pizza is the best around! Tony's also has cheese-steaks and cold sub sandwiches, which are all excellent! My personal favorite is the "Tony's Special" which is their version of the Italian sub. It is the best Italian sub in the area, by far. You also gotta try the tomato bread. It is excellent and you won't find it anywhere else. If you are more into sit-down traditional Italian dinners then Tony's has you covered, too. They younger man who runs the register is rude and should not be in a customer facing position.
