I specifically came for the live salsa music and social dancing, which was incredible. I visited on a Friday night and arrived just as the band was beginning to set up. The salsa dance floor was empty at first, so I explored the entire space, which was huge. There were separate sections: a salsa area, an outdoor patio where people were enjoying cigars, a bar area, and restaurant seating. The band sounded fantastic - they started playing around 9pm and performed for hours. There was a lively crowd of dancers, and it grew super packed later in the night. It seemed beginner-friendly, but there were definitely some incredible, experienced dancers as well. I met quite a few regulars, who sang praises of the salsa scene here. You can check your coat for $3 at the entrance of the dance floor, which was helpful. The cocktails were strong and decently priced. The guy in charge of cigars was rude and not helpful. I asked what he recommended in Terms of light flavors since I was new to cigars, he said I don't know what to tell you. Everyone has a different palate. Like explain to me a beginner friendly cigar instead of being a douche. I was taking my time asking questions and he kept rushing me saying I have other sales to make right now so if you want you can pick from these cheaper ones at the bottom. We had a terrible experience at Cigar Bar. We were charged a $20 cover per person after being told there would be a place for us to sit. Once we got inside, the staff completely changed their story and told us there were no seats available and that we would have to stand wherever we could, even separately. If you're charging people an entry fee based on the promise of seating, you need to honor that. Otherwise, it feels like a bait-and-switch. We would never have paid the cover if we'd been told the truth upfront. Very disappointing experience and poor customer service. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you're okay paying just to stand around with no guarantee of the experience you were promised. read more

Context: paid $20 for to attend the Portugal v. Colombia match. I've been here before for my brother's bachelor party. This was the main reason for considering this option for my World Cup watch party experience. It was terrible, and I would not recommend anyone visit this establishment with any goal other than to smoke a cigar and get a drink. There were two screens for the event, and neither were large enough for the size of the room/number of occupants. One room was constantly 5-10 seconds ahead of the other, so one room would know if an event like a goal or corner kick occurred before the other. At one point, some patrons decided to open the game on their phone to get more up-to-date information. During half time and the second water break, the broadcasts were interrupted by a notification to switch channels to an MLB broadcast. This notification blocked the entire screen and the room had to chant to get any bartender/management assistance. In order to get a seat, you had to grab a chair from across the room/building and seat yourself. No table, no waiting service. If you did that, you HOPED you could get a spot to see the screen. On top of that, I believe I had the worst drink I've had in my 11 years of drinking. I know what a Henny and Coke tastes like, and it was like an E.J with RC Cola if I'm being gracious. This is a really great restaurant in the city! I was invited here for a birthday brunch and cigars. I really like the fact that they had big screen TVs inside and outside. So even if you wanted to enjoy a good cigar you could still watch the playoff games. Their food menu is limited but mighty. The items we tried for brunch or crab cakes and bacon wrapped shrimp. The mini chicken sliders are definitely something to try. I ended up ordering the beef empanadas which were nicely sized and had a great dipping sauce. The drinks were pretty good. I came here with my sister and their spouses and we had a great time. They have food, a full bar, and dance lessons with music. I didn't stay because I'm still recovering from surgery, but this spot is lit. The food was so good and so were the drinks. The Brussels sprouts were quite good. So were the tacos. And those drinks. This spot was very clean and filled up throughout the evening. We got our food in a timely fashion. The waitress answered my questions about our food and they did quite well. I probably wouldn't return because in all honesty, I don't get to this part of San Francisco often. But if in the area, I'm going. And I will let my friends know about this spot. The humidor was one of the smallest I've seen. But was able to pick a nice one. My Father Nicaraguan binder & wrapper. Medium body. Nice smooth smoke. Good service at the bar. I love a good cigar and having a cigar in San Francisco, with live music, the most diverse talent I have seen in a hot one. Yes, please!! It was salsa night, and the talent was stunning! Wildly diverse crowd of lovely ladies, dancing, and enjoying the night. It was a thing of beauty. The hostess, Maria, is adorable and super nice to chat with. I felt like she was really helpful with my cigar selection. She suggested a Montecristo Platinum, to pair with the whiskey my buddy was drinking. It was nice to get a solid cigar suggestion. We both enjoyed the smoking experience, and the cigars were smooth, peppery, and just right. Our server, Sara, was fantastic! She was fun to chat with, and honest about the menu items we were thinking of ordering. She made sure we had our drinks as quickly as possible, considering it was completely packed in there. She did a really good job, and she's very friendly, chatty, and a cool cat. We just needed some appetizers and didn't get a chance to order from the dinner menu, but everything sounds delish! Duck Fat Papa Bravas: How do you see duck fat on the menu, know it's fried, and not order it? I can't say cause we killed these! Super crispy exterior, cooked through on the inside, and served up with a spicy aioli. Simple, but executed accurately. Very good. Chicken Flautas: Not bad, but not great. I definitely would suggest a more aggressive seasoning on the chicken and some more salt. It lacked flavor, and that punch of spice to go with the crunchy cabbage and the sour of the lime. The drinks were pretty solid too. My buddy had 3 whiskeys, he loved every drop, and overall, the tab wasn't too bad for two dudes having a night on the town. It may be a nice restaurant and salsa venue. But Kenny downstairs is a jerk. I was charged 20$ at door which is reasonable if you are going salsa dancing but I was just going to have a cigar. Upon entering the cigar bar are there were no seats. I then stood waiting for 10 minutes until I asked a barmaid who explained I needed to check in with Kenny for a seat. I found Kenny and explained that I had hoped to just enjoy a cigar, but that there were no seats available... he said, do you always walk into a Restaurant and just sit down... I said to him, no but that I have never been seated in a cigar bar which is what I thought this was. He very testily again responded again that he couldn't understand why I would expect to be seated in a restaurant without checking in with the manager. So I got a little angry and said look man, I laid down 20$ upstairs, at no time was I told that I was entering a restaurant -they said the cigar bar was downstairs. I then asked him why he was being a dick? He said "that's it you are done". I told him, I'd happily leave when he refunded my $20. In his defense he walked me upstairs and gave me $20. So... long story short. This is probably a cool place, but it isn't a place to enjoy a cigar. PS. I don't drink and am a threat to nobody at 60 years old. I've been getting into the world of cigars, and looking for a unique date night activity, so Cigar Bar was an obvious choice. We got there on a Friday night around 10pm, and the place was busy and lively. $15 cover charge, which they charge after 9pm, so if you want to avoid that, come earlier. Checked-in with the hostess, and a outdoor table wasn't available right away, but the superstar Enrique was able to find us a table where we could enjoy our cigars. Enrique was very helpful, gave us suggestions on what cigars pair well with what we were drinking, giving us different price pint options, top notch customer service, he really made the experience amazing. At our table, our server Tara was amazing and kept the drinks flowing. Both Tara and Enrique, really made coming here well worth it. I haven't experienced that level of customer of service in a long time, very refreshing and elevated the experience. Be sure to wear clothes that you don't mind smelling like cigar smoke. Cocktails were reasonable. The staff working their tail feathers off were efficient and super friendly. Forgot your smokes? No worries they have a solid selection at the bar to choose from including cutters and matches with wood splints for those fatties that take a bit to get going. Unless you are smoking or got their early enough to secure a table , it was literally standing room only. The crowd was quintessential SF... eclectic, all ages, sizes, races and genders. I'm not a cigar person usually, but we were given an extremely comprehensive explanation of our options, their pairings, and how the whole system worked. Definitely newbie-friendly, not snobby at all. The food and drinks are so much better than I expected. They serve perhaps my favorite espresso martini in the Bay Area right now (sorry former favorite, wilder). They use an almond cold brew they make as an ingredient and a chilled glass, served up. Highly recommended, called Darkness. The Gin Fizz on the other hand, I could t finish--too much bitterness from some ingredient I couldn't identify (not from an alcohol, maybe too much pith from a fruit?) The dance floor is lively and the band is excellent as well. The outdoor area was extremely popular on a Friday night, so be prepared, though we didn't have to wait at all for a table or anything. Downside is that cover was $10. Why? That's why I'm docking a star--it's absolutely ridiculous that so many places making enough money off the food, drinks, and food times, feel the need to charge cover. Our dinner reservation was at 8:15 pm and we sat down in the bar area, around 7:45 pm. Our plan was to have one drink and leave - we put our drink orders in immediately and paid right away. The place wasn't that busy and the service was so slow. The bartender didn't really seem to care and he was taking his sweet time making drinks and our ticket seemed to get lost along the way. 8:15 pm rolls around and our drinks are still not at our table - at this point, we had to leave and ask for a refund. I thought the food was really food. We got a few of the small bites to try. When we ordered they had a special going on which was awesome! I thought the empanadas were really good I liked the flavor and they had lots of cheese in them. I was also a fan of the duck fat papa bravas. They were nice and crispy. The space was amazing. They had a nice dance area with a bar and live music after the dance class. This space had really good vibes. I definitely want to check it out again sometime and try some other items from the menu. Amazing atmosphere on a Friday night. It's usually salsa night and they have a live band. Make sure to enter before 9pm if you wanna avoid the 15$ cover. We came here for the salsa, drinks and cigars but the food was unexpectedly amazing. Everything we ordered off the menu was delicious - the vegetarian polenta cake, the beef and cheese empanadas and the chicken sliders. Only minor complaint is that the pitcher of punch could have been more potent but for 60$, it was good value for money. For some reason the customer appreciation and care dropped within the year that I had last tried this place out . Bartenders don't tend and even got made fun of for asking where the cutters were for the cigar I had just purchased. No instructions on where to light up a cigar . I was pointed out towards the stairs instead of the outdoor patio within the establishment. Next thing I knew I was not welcomed back as I "attempted to light up the cigar indoors". Just had wonderful dinner at CBG tonight. WOW! The food was amazing. We ordered guacamole with chips that came still hot (very nice!), the TRUFFLE FRIES- best I've ever had! They were crunchy but not dry on the inside and brown enough-not overcooked that were just AMAZING! The steak was a really good portion and tasty that came with potatoes and cauliflowers- cooked with butter, so yummy. The octopus with sausage pieces was delish. The room we ate in has warm Spanish interior, it's hard to find a place like that nowadays.
