I just came here with a friend of mine and food here is delicious. I always pass by here in the past but never really paid much attention to it. Now I really regret it because I had their quesadilla and oh my goodness it was delicious. Also had their orange soda and it definitely was awesome too. I would definitely recommend 4.5/5. I only subtracted 0.5 because while I'm sure they might consider catering to your request but unless if I missed something, I wish they gave the option to just let us order a quesadilla without the other stuffs on the side so it might be a little cheaper. Was looking for a snack at the Lonsdale Quay yesterday afternoon to take home. Cilantro and Jalapeño caught my eyes because of the customer order line up (no other stall had a line up) and the food served at the counter looked delicious. One side is the counter to order food to take out or eat right there and the other side is a small grocery shop. I spent a good ten minutes looking at the grocery items but decided I didn't want to cook anything so bought the ready made take out containers of guacamole and salsa. The customer before me also bought guacamole and salsa and a bag of fresh tortilla chips. When I inquired, I was informed the chips of the stand were sold out but they would be happy to make me a fresh batch if I could wait for a few minutes. Yeah, I could wait for this as I confirmed giggling - fresh chips! When I got home, the snack was delicious. The tortillas chips were light and crispy. The guacamole was creamy (didn't go brown the next day) and also had some good chunks. The tomatoes in the salsa were not mushy and held nicely. Reminds me of good Mexican food in Mexico. Can't wait to go back to try another other dishes. read more

I am not always the biggest fan of fast food court meals however I'm a fan of Cilantro and Jalapeño in Lonsdale Quay. I haven't tried many items from their menu, but I have tried their Chimichanga ($13.49) and it is so good! It is a 10" crispy flour tortilla packed with cheese, salsa, guacamole, crema, beans and your choice of: chicken/beef/pastor/chorizo/veggies. It is served with a beans, rice, guacamole and salsa. I recommend getting it with chorizo! While you are waiting, you can check out all their products they sell (salsa, guac, canned goods, sauces and so much more). Pretty much anything you need for a Mexican food night at home, you can get there! It's definitely not gourmet or super authentic, however it is a great place for a quick and affordable bite to eat! read more

One of the few stalls in the Lonsdale Quay Market that was open during the COVID-19 pandemic, so we decided to get lunch here. I got a chorizo quesadilla which also came with black beans, salsa, and guacamole. A decent choice for a quick, semi-cheap (depending on what you order) but filling meal in the Lonsdale quay. I wasn't super hungry so I chose the wrap (it's called something else) for $7.99. I had veggies and added guacamole. It was actually pretty flavourful with a variety of flavoured roasted/stewed veggies, it was very messy and sloppy so I just ate it with a fork and knife. My dining partner ordered the taco salad a large homemade taco bowl with lots of iceberg lettuce, salsa, black olives and a generous portion of chicken. Both were ok but not fantastic. If I could give 0 stars, I'd choose that option but forced to give 1 star. We ordered eat in service on Sunday April 14 2024 and I really wished I hadn't. Pre-Covid, this was one of my favorite places to eat. Now, it is worse than frozen Mexican from the grocery. We had the chile rellenos (Daily Special) and chicken enchiladas. Chile rellenos was meh and overpriced. Enchiladas- $3.00 for a 2nd one- both filled very minimally. My enchilada meal was barely lukewarm. Mexican rice was filled in with a bag of frozen peas and carrots. Black beans were runny and tasteless. Bit on something hard in my chicken enchilada- probably a chicken bone piece but didn't want to know so spit out the entire bite and stopped eating. I didn't want to write this review. I emailed the website contact form and asked directly for an owner right after my meal. the staff wouldn't have cared nor could have done anything about my complaint. I even requested my $42.45 back bc it was so horrible. The owner didn't respond within 48 hrs. A owner, Manager, anyone still hasn't responded. Said in my email that I would go to Yelp if I didn't warrant any type of reply. Save your money in this economy. Go to another Mexican place. We're all getting jacked and they think we can't do anything about it. read more

Not much to say about this place. Located within the Londale Market area. This place is a great spot for a quick lunch. Freah ingredients and affordable prices are a good combo for hungry workers. I wish it was larger portions for the price that you pay. More often rhan not, i find that you need to order to go as there are always limited seating in this area. Personally, mexican food is not something I often crave. But if someone offers, i'll never turn this place down. Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think. read more

I highly do not recommend this place. You're better off eating at Taco Bell. If you can't make a simple salad you have no business running a restaurant but then again this food stall is located at a highly populated tourist area hence they can fool unsuspecting patrons because there's no way anyone will come back a second time after they tried this place the first time. There chimichanga is to die for, however just a tip if you dnt eat certain kind of meat ( or no meat) double check the filling before you take a bite as twice I was given pork and beef instead of chicken. Always walked by this little shop/takeout in the Market. Finally decided to try their tamales. Got the chicken tamale (salsa verde pollo) and it was pretty good. It came with pico Gallo and black beans. Have to say the black beans were my fav as the tamale was a little dry. Probably one of the better Mexican joints in Vancouver. We came for soup, but the Soup Meister had put away their soup already, so we came across this place. It was my first time at this fast-food like Mexican restaurant. Definitely would not call it 'gourmet' by any means. I wish I could give this more stars but there really was nothing good about the visit. 1. Vastly overpriced 2. Poor quality of food (over cooked fish, microwaved rice, beans etc.) 3. Poor service on so many levels. It was almost comedic. I understand that some people have bad days, but this was almost unbelievable. We sat at the counter and 3 times customers approached to have something fixed about their meals. One woman returned her nachos which were supposed to have no meat, to which he replied 'oh I accidentally put meat on it, but then I took it off'...WHAT!? How is that acceptable? Just make a new order of nachos without meat! When we complained about our food (there were so many issues with our food, I would be writing a novel if i listed all of them), the guy who worked there was going to offer us a frequent customer card as some form condolences. WHAT!? I never want to come here again, never mind come here multiple times to facilitate the benefits of a frequent customer card. Nice try, I guess. If it hadn't cost me $25 (plus $5 tip which I wish I had waited until we got our food to put in the tip jar) I probably would've just thrown it in the garbage and gone to find something else but I'm too cheap. read more

I was so glad to see that one of the very few places to buy authentic Mexican foods and munch on plates of tostadas, taquiles, and quesadillas has moved out of a tiny stall and into prime corner real estate at Lonsdale Quay Market. Although the specials board could be easier to read - it looks pretty, but the magic marker script on clear glass ain't the move - I managed to make out enough to order a Cilantro & Jalapeno special quesadilla. I ordered the small size but it was more than enough to eat, especially when the plate comes with plenty of guacamola, salsa, sour cream, and refried beans, as well as rice and tortilla chips. You don't expect artful presentation from a take-out taco joint, but I was charmed by the way they stood up the tortillas in the refried beans and put a cucumber dolloped with sour cream in the centre of the plate. My only complaint was having to listen to two women yap like the people with annoying voices in radio ads while I was sitting at the counter waiting for my order. I guess that's the price you pay for sitting on the corner seat at a busy market. Luckily, they got take-out and took their office gossip or whatever elsewhere. Some tasty treats await for you here. Their homemade chips and condiments make my day. I'm not a soup fan, but the soups here are must-try items. The 'caldo tlapeno' is a regular favorite. Chicken, rice, avocado, and spice are combined with some other great flavours into quite a hearty meal, though if I'm extra hungry I'll ask for extra avocado, or buy a bag of their homemade taco chips and dip them is some hot sauce beside the soup. The 'classic' mexican items aren't as impressive... the tacos and the like are quite bland. But if you venture off the norm and try something different you will be rewarded. The last meal I had was the chorizo... a plate of sausage smothered in Edam cheese, served with black beans, queso freso and lettuce, and tortillas for which to fashion into your own tacos. This place has saved me from a few of those nights. Their take away guacamole, salsa, crema, corn tortillas, along with some nice chorizo sausage...or even a rotisserie chicken...make for an excellent lazy-man's (or in this case gal's) feast. Lunch here is a bit of a gamble though, some days the food is awesome and other days it doesn't quite hit the mark. This place is much smaller than I thought it would be. However, I'm from Los Angeles, and I was craving a taste of home. Mexican food and ingredients can be very difficult to find in Vancouver. I ended up purchasing some chorizo, some really delicious crema, and some corn tortillas. They also stock Mexican spices, several kinds of chiles including poblano and jalapeno, fresh tomatillos, salsas and guacamoles, corn chips, big and little cans of hominy, masa harina, mole, corn husks, dried chiles, etc. I haven't tried their hot prepared food but overall they are a good little source for a few Mexican specialties. Tex-Mexican in Vancouver? Yes, please! When we travel to the states there is an abundance of good, cheap Tex-Mex or Mexican restaurants, but they are much rarer in Vancouver. However, I must first confess I was looking for "Screaming Mimi's" at the Lonsdale Quay for a pound of freshly steamed mollusks and chowder, but they are now sadly closed. The veggie platter was fresh and the portions were adequate. I quite enjoyed the smoothness and freshness of the guacamole and the freshness of the salsa. The refried black beans are quite runny, and tasted okay. The chips were handed to us in a plastic bag?! Odd, since they fry up fresh tortilla chips in house. The sopes with the green sauce was also tasty. More visuals on the menu would help customers decide between all the various Mexican entrees. Then as we were leaving, we noticed that all the components of our veggie platter were available in the refrigerated section in tubs to to take home. Solid flavour and freshness in their food, but dishes need a bit more oomph in terms of portions and flavour profile. read more

Their location is great for them as there aren't many Mexican options at Lonsdale (tons of Japanese restaurants though!). My boyfriend and I came here and we enjoyed their friendly attitude and the food was quick. However, if you frequent la taqueria, or sal y limon, this place's food pales in comparison and it'll do the trick if you have a hankering for Mexican, but definitely not the best. Best place for Mexican on the North Shore the best Q market and the only place I have found that is comparable to the stuff I've enjoyed down in mexico Super fresh ingredients - everything has great flavors and that distinct "fresh" that only comes from fresh produce (none of that mushy crap). The prices are reasonable, they have a very good selection and the staff are always extremely nice. I am so desperate for good Mexican food!!! This is the only place I know of on the North Shore, and I've enjoyed it a couple of times. Their location in the Lonsdale Quay food court isn't really the most comfortable, but the cafeteria seating behind it works just fine. The fresh salsas are awesome! The prices are fine, The food is fine. Overall, it's not bad. I just wish this place was open a bit later, And would love it if the prices were a little bit lower so I could justify eating it more often. :P read more

I think this *might* be the family who served up Mexican at Hogan's Alley Cafe in strathcona in its last incarnation before it was reborn as the Roost. I am not sure, but their daughter was definitely working here -- though I didn't recognize anyone else. The food was certainly similar -- nothing fussy or pretentious; just simple, satisfying Mexican plates with fresh ingredients. I tried the enchiladas verde, which were served with beans, rice, pico and guacamole. The verde salsa was the standout of the dish for sure but the refried black beans were decent too. I doused the whole thing in some hot sauce from their plentiful imported selection and ate it outside with a view of the water. I'm not often on the north shore but will make a point to eat there again next time I am! read more

I work near Lonsdale Quay & have gone to Cilantro & Jalapeno a number of times. The most recent time I went, I noticed that they heat up large amounts of food in the microwave in PLASTIC containers. I will never eat there again, as I never heat anything in plastic in a microwave. As far as the food goes, they used to make really good home made nacho chips. However, the last two times I've bought a very expensive bag to take home they were distinctly over cooked & didn't taste very good. Much prefer Cinco de Mayo - food is fresh & served with a smile. This is an embarrassment to Mexican culture honestly. They use cold ingredients and then warm it up in a microwave! They do it in front of you too like that is normal! Disgusting. I don't how they advertise this as "Gourmet". They're staff is rude and slow. I was waiting for 25 minutes for my one burrito while two other customers (who ordered after me) got theirs before. Horrible service, horrible food. Coming from the South/Southwest I have yet to find a decent Mexican restaurant anywhere on the North Shore, and this is definitely NOT it. I stopped by here to grab a burrito to take home for lunch. I was super hungry so I ordered the largest one that was about $13 after tax. As I'm not a huge fan of raw tomatoes I asked the lady who was working the counter if there were any inside of the burrito or in their salsa. She said no. After walking about 5 minutes back to my place, I opened the box ready to tuck in and was completely taken aback. Inside of the take out container was a sloppy mess of red sauce pooling on top of a tortilla that was laid flat on top of all of the burrito's fillings. Water was puddling on top of the red sauce. Yikes. But yeah, I was starving so I tucked in with gusto anyway. Turns out the inside was a big sloppy mess that was overflowing with fresh tomatoes. Go figure. The rest of the bottom layer was cold refried beans, chicken and guacamole with peas in it. I managed about 5 bites before I got too grossed out and gave up on lunch. read more
