The negitoro roll was a standout; super flavorful and nicely balanced. I also really enjoyed the B.C. roll, which had a great texture and tasted just as fresh. I ordered to go bento box of Chicken cutlet which includes California rolls, tempura, salad and miso soup. I was glad to find a option non-teriyaki version in bento and surprisingly they have lots of variety of food in the box. Beside of salad (dressing aside), there was a stir fried vegetable under the cutlet. Tempura dipping sauce tasted original because too much mirin though. Chicken cutlet was very thin almost like a ham. The cutlet batter and chicken were almost same volume. I had enjoyed varieties in the box but quality wise, it was not great. Got one of their special rolls - Snow White Roll - to go and it was great! A generous amount of chopped scallop on a california roll base. The best part of the roll was the aburi as it gave the roll a nice smoky flavour. The sauce on top was a little bit heavy handed but did not detract from the taste. We came here to grab some food before drinks as we didn't want to have alcohol on an empty stomach and the food was alright. I cannot say enough about the quality, presentation and staff at this wonderful sushi place. The ingredients are super fresh and the menu is varied and authentic. I came here twice in 2 days because it was so good. My hotel is only 2 blocks away, so it is very convenient to anyone staying in the Shipyard area. Their pricing is so reasonable and much less than the USA. My favorite is Ikura and it was so incredibly fresh. I also tried the Ebi, sunomono, miso soup, agedashi tofu and the house salad which was so fresh and beautifully presented. You will love their menu and casual vibe. No, this is different: I mean just by its name. You might be tempted to do that with Mr. Sushi. It's not my favorite name, but it turned out to be a nice spot. Miss Sushi? I dunno much about her. Mrs. Sushi? Nowhere to be found. But Mr. Sushi is here and he's making a statement: I'm here, so come and get your sushi on. We saw a little of everything. The sashimi was the standout for me. These were girthy, thick slices of fresh beautiful fish. Just exactly what I wanted--too bad I didn't order them myself--but I did get to sneak a slice. Perfect. I ordered the nigiri sampler, which was a crazy amount of food. Everyone else gave me the ol' "Of course we'll have some" but when my plate arrived (some time after everyone else head already been served) they weren't interested. I was stuck with a whole plate of it. Mr. Sushi is an insistent fella, so I managed to get it all into my sushi loving gullet, but that's a lot of food. This is not a complaint, at all. Just know that if you preceeded dinner with a cheese plate at the hotel, you're going to get full with the sampler. It's not super fancy pants inside, and I like that. A provided high-chair was very dirty and I spent several minutes cleaning it, since I'm not paid to clean it so I'm giving 1-star rating instead. Last time was the same actually. Water was not refilled and I was left with empty glass until the end. About food? I ordered one Karl's roll, tempura udon and chicken teriyaki. Karl's roll was good, nice mix of flavors. Udon has been served a few minutes before tempuras, but the whole thing was good in flavor anyway. Tempura was well fried, crispy, slightly oily but acceptable. Chicken teriyaki was very well done. Quite a gold sushi spot located in the heart of lonsdale. Came here after a long hike to get some lean protein in! Honestly there were a couple of sushi spots around here but the name caught my interest! The food is quite good as expected for Vancouver ;). I had the dragon roll (sashimi, cheese, hot sauce) and its deliciously complex in its flavor. Oh and it comes out FLAMING (shotglass) but you can totally blow it out..I also got my staple Alaska roll. Also ordered the salmon sashimi which tasted like butter but more on the expensive side ($15 for 8 pieces). Also had the tempura appy which includes two prawn and two potato tempura. Since they are landlocked and don't necessarily get the best sushi all the time they were looking to fix their sushi craving. I hopped on Yelp and saw that Mr. Sushi was just a few blocks down from their hotel so we decided to come here. I gave them a call about an hour and a half before we were going to come in to make a reservation and on a Tuesday night, it was not a problem. We walked over from The Pinnacle (a short 4 minute walk) and were sat right away in a corner booth towards the back. Menus and teas were places in front of us right away. Like I said before, they have an extensive sushi menu. Like, there are so many options. I couldn't even decide what I wanted until the very last minute when the server asked me what I wanted. Of course, I started with a miso soup. For my main, I ended up going for the dragon roll (crab meat, prawn tempura, unagi, tuna, avocado). I also ordered the tempura platter to satisfy my prawn tempura craving. Yes, there was a lot of food. Yes, I alllllllmost finished all of it. Service was just okay. I wasn't blown away, but it also wasn't the worst service I've received. Good sushi and good company made up for it though. If you're looking for a sushi spot outside of the regular holes in Vancouver, Mr. Sushi has got you covered. Plus, it will probably be less busy than most of the places downtown. read more

Truth be told, I don't eat a lot of sushi. Especially now that I'm landlocked in Colorado. However, there are a few select cities where a fresh sushi dinner is hard to pass up; of course Vancouver is one of those cities. Mr Sushi was the perfect pick by our local guide. Casual, but well-lit interior. Clean and new(ish). Great prices in CAD. Plenty of options, seafood or otherwise. Our table went to town at Mr Sushi: sashimi, tempura, takoyaki, nigiri, sushi and even udon in piping hot broth. I particularly remember the tuna sashimi because the pieces of fish were very large. This was good! Had a chicken teriyaki bento and the salad was really good. The tempura was awesome. Super crispy and we had it Togo and it didn't get soggy at all. The teriyaki chicken was on a bed of veggies instead of rice which wasn't my favourite. As someone who rarely eats California rolls, the Cali roll was actually super delicious. This cute little modern style restaurant in Lolo has a large selection on their menu - so much that we need to return soon as I saw a few items I'll be needing to sample. On our visit I had the deep fried California rolls (soooo good), and the flattened gyozas (meh). My partner is a little more sushi adventurist and had some colorful fancy dish which he loved. Another sushi place on Lonsdale in North Vancouver? It is bold move to do so as there are so many other establishments within walking distance alone. I believe in order to survive you have to seriously up your game on quality and unique offerings. Mr. Sushi has both of those down. I was there with a good friend and we were both immediately blown away by the scope of the selection. Just the creativity of some of the rolls will make narrowing down what you want to order a difficult task. The restaurant itself is significantly smaller on the inside (reverse Doctor Who I call it) than it looks on the outside. I can imagine it being difficult to get a table say on a Friday night if you arrive after six. We both found the quality of the food to be phenominal. Not to mention how quickly they are able to get the dishes out. Something that is very important in a restaurant with limited seating. Random Tuesday night dinner, we ordered the Katsu Pork Bento, dynamite roll, scallop roll, uni nigiri that they were featuring and a deep fried soft shell crab Happy to say that the uni was very fresh. The reason for this update: They deep fry everything with panko. To some it may not be a big deal, but for some items it is. As per my original post, they bread the chicken karaage with panko, and to my disappointment the soft shell crab as well. Which is really a shame, because the soft shell crab was super fresh and yummy but I did not care for the panko breading. There's is nothing wrong with it, just not what I wanted. I was expecting the traditional, authentic Japanese style where it is just slightly floured and then fried. Service was wonderful and consistent with our last visit. read more
