Half off Wednesdays on their standard oysters. Happy hour 4-5:30 I had half a dozen oysters. Two fantastic glasses of wine, with a bump of caviar (cuz why not), the beef tartar, shrimp cocktail, and weekly ceviche of scallops and yellowtail. Could not have left this place happier. We had a lovely first experience at Pearl. The stylish space transports you away from Anchorage, a big plus! There were plenty non-oystery things to eat. We had a crab artichoke dip which was exceptional, a beet & arugula salad that was beet heavy (yay!), a nice lobster bisque, and a thick French dip sandwich that my partner enjoyed. You can't get here fast enough. The food, presentation, and service off the scale. Kate, our server, guided our selections and she was spot on. Oysters on the half shell have been highlighted by other reviewers, but this gem of a restaurant is so much more. We started with a dozen varietal oysters from the Happy hour menu. After that, he devoured the light clam chowder unlike any other. The shrimp cocktail was divine followed by steak tartare. I chose the beet and arugula salad with pistachios and a goat cheese mixture, and Kate suggested adding the tuna tartare. Inspired! When he saw my beet salad with tuna tartare, we ordered another to split. One of the best dining experiences ever. And ask for Kate. read more

Pearl opened with their soft launch at the tail end of July and I managed to obtain a reservation for August 2nd. The space Pearl is in was once occupied pre COVID by the beloved Bubbly Mermaid, a champagne and oyster bar which I discovered many champagnes that are now in a permanent rotation in my collection, so Pearl has some big shoes to fill in my heart. We started with their complimentary truffle popcorn which was previously popped but still flavorful. Our first item off the menu was the shrimp cocktail, the shrimp were large and the cocktail sauce was spicy, more so than either my husband or I would have cared for. The shrimp was peeled all the way to the tail which was incredible. The champagne / sparkling wine by the glass offerings were slimmer than I had anticipated which was somewhat disappointing. There were only 5 choices in the sparkling wine or champagne family by the glass. They do have a decent bottle list with prices in the mid $80s up to the mid $600s. I enjoyed a glass of Guy de Forez Champagne Brut which was enjoyable. My husband had two oysters on the half shell which were presented in a visually pleasing manner. He said they were very good. I enjoyed an ounce of platinum osetra caviar which was delicious but expensive for the amount. Next up was the smoked salmon spread. It came with warm bread that was just slightly crispy. Besides the expected salmon flavor, capers and a hint of lemon really shined through making this a very briney spread. Next up we tried the deviled eggs, these change daily I suspect. Today were marinated in a pickled beet juice, with sprouts, pickled onion, mustard, and some sort of jam dotted on top. Very creamy, the perfect balance of acid and cooked perfectly well. Even though the deviled eggs was delicious, the price point of $9 is a bit steep for one egg. Our next menu item is the baked triple cream brie en croute which came with toasted nuts, local honey, fresh thyme, and a mixed berry chutney. It was beautiful in presentation but incredibly messy. Even though the brie is served in a pastry, we would have appreciated some crackers or bread. The cheese also wasn't warm at all, so it was probably either forgotten about and sat for a bit or it was made ahead of service. My husband believes that the croute was perhaps over cooked due to the flavor of the pastry itself. Service has been top notch through the entire evening, Cary has been very on top of it which is appreciated. My husband says that he has felt a bit rushed and it could be due to the fact that they are trying to get people in and out. The ambiance is a nice change, it's bright inside with art deco themes throughout the restaurant. Lots of gold, pink and navy blue makes it a visually stimulating environment. We finished with the chocolate Cigar for dessert. It was present in a very hip manner truly resembling a partially smoked cigar. The flavor was good. Pearl is stated to be a restaurant that is open year round but for the time being there are no plans to have champagne flights much to my dismay. However perhaps this will change as the restaurant matures and falls into a rhythm as the tourists leave and all that remain are the locals. I can hope at least. Overall, Pearl is a very hip restaurant but based the price point and menu offerings, I cannot say this is somewhere I would frequent like the space's predecessor. read more

Disclaimer: went here for a hot date and only got wine, YMMV Like the Bubbly Mermaid (RIP), Pearl is completely different than just about any other place in Anchorage. However, it is completely different than the Bubbly Mermaid. The space is bigger, much more open, and brightly lit. The selection of wine by the glass was not expansive but I felt like it was a very well-curated selection. (I got a Vino Verde, my favorite style of wine and...not particularly common to find) Service was incredible. (the owner of El Green Go's waited on us, how cool is that?!) Me? At and oyster bar? Never would have thought but here I am two dinners down and planing on more! I am dipping my toes in the realm of slurping down oysters so my review is focused on Pearl's Specialty Osyters and apps. Favorites Salmon Spread - Creamy and delicious paired with the best baguette. Ceviche - YUM. Just yum. Caesar - who doesn't love a fun Caesar? Devil's Wear Prada - Spicy but in a good way, I even ordered ordered two Lemonade stand - fresh and mild Karate Kid - strong and spicy Highly recommend sharing a bottle and a bump of caviar! Honorable Mentions Devils Egg - One of the tastiest $9 eggs of my life but I don't know if I'd causally drop $9 on one egg again. Rockefeller - a fun spin on the Classic Chocolate Cigar - tasty! Berry Dessert - sweet and tart all at the same time Overall, but have enjoyed both experiences at Pearl. While pricey, their oysters are fresh and delicious. The apps and sides are well done. On top of all that presentation and ambiance is 10/10. Service is also very friendly and attentive. While I want to bump a star for charging $9/egg (just kidding...), I'm not only because everything is such good quality! read more

Pearl is an experience - you come to take your time and treat yourself. The interior is chic and cozy, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the food tastes delightful with beautiful presentation. I could eat a dozen chocolate cigars, they're to die for. The oysters that are spicy have a decent kick if you're not a fan of spice, so maybe steer clear if you're questioning it. Having seasoned popcorn as soon as you're seated is a great touch. The drink list was also expansive without being overwhelming which we appreciated. read more

Where do I start? This place is incredible. I ordered a half dozen fresh oysters plus a few specialty oysters, and every bite was outstanding. The oysters on the half shell were as fresh as if they came straight from the farm. The "Poke'mon" was unforgettable--served in a stone bowl that releases a cloud of nitrogen for a dramatic, otherworldly effect. The poke and oyster flavors together were amazing. The "Smokey & the Bandit" came under a smoke-filled glass dome, and the subtle smokiness paired perfectly with the oyster. Between the freshness, the presentation, and the creativity, this has instantly become my new favorite spot. read more

My excitement when I first heard about Pearl turned to apprehension when I saw the menu (pricey), but we went last night for a birthday party, and it was 10/10. The ambiance and dishes were fantastic, and the service was exceptional. I can't remember the last time I had such great service in Anchorage. It's definitely worth a try and it's a great spot for special occasions. We had oysters, ceviche, duck liver pate, beef tartar, "bumps" of caviar, and desserts. The food had tons of flavor and beautiful presentation. The interior is very nicely decorated. Environment is fun and not at all pretentious. Will have to go back for the escargot and blueberry caesar. read more

Unfortunately, we were disappointed with our overall experience at Pearl. We had a 7:00pm reservation for two, and due to parking downtown we were running a few minutes late. The restaurant called us at 7:05 to ask where we were, we communicated that we would be there very soon and were just parking. The person on the phone said that was fine, but wanted us to know someone was coming for our table at 9:00pm, which would limit our dining time. When we arrived minutes later, we were again reminded that we would have to be out by 9:00pm. This felt rude, but we understood they had a busy schedule to keep and carried on. We then had to wait several minutes before being seen/served and throughout our time there had to wait quite a long time between drinks/food, which seemed odd as they were in such a rush for us to be there in the first place. All of this was not anything earth shattering, but the worst part of the evening was when we ordered the ceviche special, ate most of it, only to realize at the end it contained peanuts which was never mentioned in the description. Unfortunately my boyfriend is allergic, so he went into anaphylaxis. This is not necessarily the restaurant's fault, but I believe if there are major allergens unexpectedly in food (peanuts are not commonly in ceviche) that should be communicated. When we alerted the waitress of the issue and that we needed to leave promptly so he could receive care, she wanted us to stay to have peppermint tea (this would have done nothing for his condition) and also made us wait to receive our bill, not offering to comp anything, not even the item that caused the issue. Any of these things alone wouldn't be worth a negative review, but overall the experience was just subpar and missed the mark. Overall, in my opinion the price point and food offerings require a certain level of customer care and service and unfortunately the staff at Pearl significantly under delivered. The food we did eat was tasty, and the champagne and caviar were great, but all in all it was a disappointing evening. The restaurant itself is pretty and feels like a unique experience, especially for Anchorage. However, due to the lack of customer service I don't expect we will return. read more

Oysters are the stars here. Party variety of appetizers were equally stunning and uniquely designed and delicious. Wonderful array of champagne and wine options to choose from and two of the most exquisite desserts you must save room to enjoy, do yourself a favor by ordering both. A personal confession: I used to think I didn't like oysters. The food created with flavors and designs guided by a magical and talented chef, literal blew my mind-- every offering was divine and unexpectedly thrilling.
