Everything was great, from the quesadillas to the Nacho Gringo! Try this place out, its worth it.

The food is amazing. Hands down best Mexican food you can get within 10 miles of Fort Lee. The nachos are excellent for a late night snack. We usually take out and eat at home, but if you want to eat there, bring some beer or wine and some friends to make the most of the visit. (Decor is a bit old, but who the hell cares). The owner really takes the quality of the food and his service seriously, and it shows. We will always come back to this place. read more

Worst Mexican restaurant ever! I have never had food I could barely eat. The chicken quesadilla was under cooked with no cheese. The burrito looks like a foreign object, was dry with burnt cheese on top. Stuffed with only shredded chicken & rice. Everything was just awful. I waited over an hour to have crap delivered! This place has some pretty good food. I think dining in is always fun, and for some reason it tastes much better than delivery. I love the chicken tortilla soup here, excellent guacamole, and the burritos are good too. Ooooo this is hard. ONLY because the tacos I had were horrible. This is NOT What Mexican food should taste like. Underwhelming to say the least. I ordered food for delivery and it was almost inedible. The chicken fajitas were a bland weak portion of what looked like boiled pieces of Luke warm chicken. Yesterday evening I went to Cinco De Mayo, planning to redeem an online discount vouchers I had purchased. After the gentleman, who seemed to be the manager and/or owner, took our order I showed him the voucher. He read it and without comment placed it back on the table, meaning (I assumed) that I should give it to him again at the end when the bill was given to me. As I asked for the bill I gave the waitress the voucher, but she too placed it back on the table, this time without even looking at it. The bill presented to me was for the full amount, of $36.30, and I tried to show her the $20 off voucher a second time. It turns out that she could not speak or read English, she then took the voucher to the busboy and other kitchen staff, but it appears no one could read or speak English so they have no idea what the piece of paper, aka the voucher, represented. Unfortunately, I do not speak Spanish so I was unable to explain. I asked for the man who took our order but I was told he left and no one could could adjust the final bill to remove the $20 from the total of $36.30, meaning I had to pay the full amount because none of the employees understood what the voucher meant. I believe this a scam on the part of Cinco De Mayo. They trick you into coming in with your discount voucher and then pretend not to understand what is going on. If the only English speaking employee isn't there then the Living Social voucher can not be honored. It is worth noting that after the bill was paid and I was leaving I did see the (supposedly only English speaking) gentleman lurking around in the back. Very shady business practice. read more

Some seriously rustic decor, but some amazing pico de gallo, with just the right amount of cilantro, lime juice, and heat. The pico alone made me overlook the smiling waitress not bringing me a glass of water until I asked. I ordered the mixed fajitas, which were a little heavy on onions and peppers/short on carnivorous matter, but perfectly decent, and an ample-sized portion considering it was lunch. Awful customer service!!!! I called to tell the restaurant that their $10.00 Cancun Salad was delivered with only 4 pieces of chicken in it. After getting questioned excessively I was told that my order would be redone. 5 minutes later I get a call from the manager wanting to argue about the issue and tell me that his chef said I always have the same complaint which was a lie. Regardless the manager should know better than to argue with a customer. I will no longer be ordering from this establishment and they should have more thought about how to treat customers. read more

Let me start by saying that I never write reviews. However, this place is so horrible my conciounce won't let me allow any one else to eat there without knowing what they are getting in to. We ordered enchilades and the carne asada - Both awful. The carne asade was as rubbery as the bottom of my shoe. They forgot the enchilada mole that is supposed to come with it and then argued with me when I complained. I would rather get Taco Bell - you get what you pay for, they are a quarter of the price and the food is much better tasting. SAVE YOUR SELVES AND GO ELSE WHERE! read more

Cinco De Mayo is REAL Mexican food that I really love. There are specials every day. The food is all prepared on the premises and served hot. The guac is good too. I have enjoyed their burritos, pork chops (both green and red sauce are good choices), paella, and shirmp dishes. We went there with a groupon. The service was fantastic. As was the food. It was by far the best refried beans I ever ate. The salsa was fresh and delicious. My son had the steak fajitas which I would say we're very good. Not execellent. The meat was a bit tough and not rare. My husband had the spicy chipotle soup which was fabulous and the shrimp I red sauce which was good. Not fabulous. The sauce was delicous and see used the chips to finish it. I had the chille rellanos with shrimp. It was fabulous. I loved their salsa verde and it was stuffed with shrimp. Prices were reasonable. I would definatly eat there again. Cinco De Mayo is a small, no-frills Mexican restaurant with pretty good food. The service is friendly, though it can be a bit slow at times, especially if the restaurant is busy. Cinco de Mayo specializes in mexican cuisine. Everytime you order there, they offer you freshly fried tortilla chips with salsa complimentary with your meal. I usually get the steak quesadilla or the cheese empanadas, both are good but not great. I also agree with Nicole R. Delivery takes over an hour and a half. Such a waste of time when I can drive down to Chipotle and get a burrito bowl in half the time. But overall, the food is mediocre, the service is bad, and the atmosphere is dirty. OK, first of all, if you are a fan of Taco Bell, you shouldn't be reviewing Mexican restaurants. Quick clarification. My hubby and I stopped at Cinco de Mayo on our bicycles to satisfy our salsa craving. The place looks dumpy inside and out, and they are not licensed to serve alcohol, but we sampled some Jarritos sodas and were content. We loved the salsa. It is the freshest salsa we've had in NJ or NY. The chips were fresh and still hot. Since we had come in at an off-peak time we were the only ones there. Service was very warm and attentive--I think the owner served us. We ordered veggie enchiladas and a taco bowl salad. We had filled up on salsa and soda so we had to take most of it to-go. Enchiladas were creamy and savoury. The salad was OK. We loved the salsa so much we came back that week with a friend for dinner. It was busier so service was slower but the owner made a point of chatting us up (he remembered us from earlier in the week). We don't live in the area but we will definitely go back. read more

Rarely do I give any restaurant five stars...because inevitably there is always something to complain about :) Ordered take out .. arrived at my house at lightning speed. The Chimichangas were perfectly crisp and full of delicious shrimp...the other was Carne Asada... The burrito LA.. was amazing. Typically I hate the refried beans and rice from all Mexican restaurant's...However I was pleasantly surprised. Somehow they have perfected something that is usually a toss away. This place is near my job and usually convenient for days we dont pack a lunch. Some people from work decided to order there today for CINCO DE MAYO. Our confirmation said 12:30, after calling to find out where the food was at 1:15 when it still hadn't showed up, I got hung up on. I decided to cut them some slack since it is Cinco De Mayo and maybe they're crazy busy. Anyway, food arrives over an hour late, the "taco salad" was pretty much a few greens with grilled chicken, barely any salad. The mandarin salad had RAW CHICKEN in it. A burrito was probably the only semi edible thing delivered today. We obviously called to be refunded, and we'll see if that even happens. Stay away from Cinco de Mayo especially on Cinco de Mayo. read more

Just bought the yelp deal and went here for the first time tonight. This place was way more than what we expected. We got a chimichanga and beef fajita as well as the horchata. Everything was perfect! Also there's complimentary chips and salsa which was a big plus! The owner was extremely nice which made the experience even better. Will definitely come back here. For years this has been my favorite Mexican BYOB hole in the wall. Although they give the table free chips and freshly made salsa, you have to order the guacomole. They make it fresh at the table and it's outstanding! The service has always been friendly and attentive and the owner has consistently gone above and beyond service. On a number of occasions, my daughter or son has ordered a dish and decided they didn't like it. Without hesitation it was taken from them and replaced with another dish of their choosing with out complaint or charge. And free dessert was thrown in for them to make their experience even more memorable. I am a huge fan of their burritos and a creature of habit when I dine there -- it's always guacomole, burritos, fried ice cream for dessert. It's tiny, but that makes it cozy and a great place to bring friends. read more

I can't believe that the majority of the bad reviews for this place are because of the slow delivery. Do you not know what real Mexican food is? Obviously not because this is nowhere close to it. This has to be some of the worst Mexican food I have ever had. We ordered the Avocado salad, chorizo tacos and chicken tacos. Lets just say the avocado salad sucked, and it was the best part of the meal. The chicken was absolutely tasteless. The menu says the tacos come with tomatoes, onions, cilantro, lettuce and jalapeno. There was not a trace of any of those ingredients with the tacos. The delivery got here rather quickly but when the food taste the way this does you might as well not show up at all. read more
