IXIM Taco stands out as a refreshing addition to the local dining landscape in Hackensack. This taqueria, inspired by the Mayan word for corn, embodies a commitment to authentic flavors, showcasing a deep respect for Mexican culinary traditions. As I stepped into IXIM, the atmosphere welcomed me with an inviting warmth, immediately setting the stage for a delightful culinary experience. The menu boasts a wonderful assortment of tacos, allowing diners to choose between corn or flour tortillas, each topped with the essentials: onion, cilantro, salsa, and a luscious avocado salsa. I couldn't resist ordering the Al Pastor taco, a personal favorite. The marriage of marinated pork and juicy pineapple chunks creates a perfect harmony of sweet and savory, transporting my taste buds straight to the streets of Mexico. Equally impressive was the Birria Taco, featuring Jalisco brisket enveloped in a crispy tortilla. This dish is a testament to slow-cooked perfection, with tender meat steeped in a rich, spiced broth (consomé). Each bite was a revelation, enhanced by the delightful crunch of the pan-fried tortilla. For those seeking vegetarian options, the Nopal taco, made with grilled cactus, stands out as a flavorful choice. The seasoning and charred notes provide a satisfying depth, ensuring that everyone can find something to enjoy. The pricing at IXIM is refreshingly reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food and the impeccable service. I had the pleasure of chatting with Franklin, the owner, who took a moment to share his culinary journey. His pride in the hand-pressed corn tortillas, made fresh daily, echoed the sentiment of tradition and home cooking--what abuela would have done, he explained. It's clear that Franklin's passion for food and Mexican culture permeates every dish served. To complement my meal, I savored a glass of Agua de Jamaica, a refreshing iced hibiscus tea that perfectly balanced the rich flavors of the tacos. Its tartness was reminiscent of a cranberry tea, making it an ideal companion to the flavorful offerings. During my time at IXIM, I appreciated the opportunity to connect with the community. I shared smiles and stories with local police officers and fellow restaurant owners, creating a sense of camaraderie that reflects the heart of Hackensack. I eagerly anticipate my next visit to explore more of what IXIM has to offer. With its dedication to honest ingredients and real technique, this new taqueria is poised to become a beloved spot within our vibrant culinary scene.

Great casual restaurant to stop in and grab a bite. Food came out quickly and was really good. Definitely recommend the birria taco, I would order that again and again! You have the option of ordering at the counter or using their self-serve kiosk, and they'll call your name when your order is ready so you pick it up from the kitchen window. Only downside is that it's on the Main Street so limited street parking, but there's a lot really close by.

Service has been nothing but kind, helpful, and attentive every time we've gone. On our last visit, we were jonesing for happy hour and asked for the drink menu, only to discover they don't serve alcohol but they're BYOB. "And there's a wine and liquor store only two blocks away," our smiling server whispered conspiratorially. It was a genius idea. While we waited on our order, my husband jetted out for a 6-pack of Modelos and got back just as our chicken salad was being set down on the table. We asked for it to be timed as an appetizer, and I'd say the serving size might be closer to an appetizer than an entree. But the chicken pieces were well-marinated and delicious, making the salad a meaty entry point into our shared steak fajitas. These fajitas are a winner winner chicken - er, steak - dinner. Since we got it done medium well (my preferred doneness - feel free to judge me for it), I was worried about the steak being tough but these were tender enough for both my husband and I to emit a simultaneous "wow" at first bites. The sauce on them was also incredible, so much that we asked our server about it when he checked on us mid-meal. He crossed his heart and demurred, "It's a secret, so I can't really tell you," but when we pressed for more information, he admitted the main base was "lots of tomatoes". Well, whatever's in that magic sauce was good enough for us to drag our spoons against the near-empty fajita plate, trying to get every last drop of it. My husband and I have visited twice now, and our order has ranged from good to excellent (with those steak fajitas being the high winner thus far). There are a few parking spots in the front lot but being that this is in a quiet, residential area, there's plenty of parking to be found on the side streets if necessary.

Without us asking, the staff noticed and asked if it is ok to warm up the place. That really helped enhance the dining experience. Now the food, we shared the chicken fajita and the enchilada mi bandiera. The chicken fajita was so tasty, the chicken is made w chicken thigh. Some might not like that. We enjoyed it tremendously. The chicken and the veggies were very flavorful and grilled perfectly. They were a little stingy w only 3 tortillas but it's ok. The enchilada was also good. Good flavor but it was Luke warm. Would've been better if it was hotter. I very much enjoyed the home made hot sauce and their signature mole sauce. A good dining experience. Left satiated.

Consistent service throughout. Our appetizers and entrees came out back to back. Our waiter still checked on us throughout and allowed us to take our time, we did not feel rushed. The chicken flautas and empanadas were perfect to share for appetizers. I ordered the chicken bowl which came with a variety of sauces, rice, beans, guacamole. Basically all the fixings for inside a taco. I really enjoyed it! My friend spoke highly of her chicken tacos as well. We originally wanted to order tres leches for dessert. However, it was frozen according to our waiter. We tried the churros instead, but they didn't taste as fresh. We loved our spicy margaritas and espresso martinis. This is definitely a fun place to visit especially if you are going to see a show at the Bergen PAC! It's right next door. Parking at times can be limited especially on a weekend.

Based on past years and just general expectations for Cinco de Mayo, you'd expect at least some drink deals or themed offerings. The flyer is vague and ends up being misleading, it gets you in the door, but once you're seated, there's nothing different from a regular day. At minimum, there should have been some kind of special to match the holiday. This didn't live up to the expectations they set.

Steak fajita. No sizzle. Very very little steak - mostly vegetables. Also only comes with 4 small tortillas, if you want more it's extra.

The ambience of the place was very interesting and they definitely tried to put a lot into their space. The food was good! Guacamole was freshly made at your table, drinks tasted good, dinner tasted good as well as dessert! THE BAD. The service kind of began to lack by the time we got dessert. Once we were served dessert, our server was no where to be found to get the check and settle up for the night. The only other complaint is the pork and beans side was just ok and a couple of dishes were a bit pricier than I have gotten it elsewhere. Overall, the flavors were good and there was enough food.
