I went in on a Wednesday evening after 7pm. This place is a small, casual eatery with a full bar. The ambiance is casual, so dress however you like. They have all types of appealing specials including happy hour drink prices after 8pm. To eat we started with the guacamole: it was fresh and I could tell that the chips were fresh as well. For dinner, I had the chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. My entree was delicious and it was served nice and hot. The rice and beans had great flavor, but I wish my enchiladas were a little heftier. To drink I tried the classic mojito and a classic margarita. Both drinks were blended well, tasty, and strong. There were also people coming in just for drinks which speaks to the quality of the libations that this place has to offer. The service was also great. Our server was kind, attentive, and bilingual. The best kept secret in this area. It's a great little restaurant with strong drinks and live music on the weekend. The DJ/singer even sat down at our table and serenaded us! Amazing show! The churrasco (medium rare) is absolutely some of the best I've had. The chicken enchiladas were so comforting and filling. I almost never order chicken at restaurants because I'm afraid it will be dry - this was anything but. They have daily specials but you can't beat half off tacos on Taco Tuesdays. The carne asada tacos are great and come 4 to an order. The birria tacos come 3 to an order with a small cup of consommé. The highlight of this place is their house-made hot sauce. You can purchase it separately as well to take home. One is a habanera sauce and the other is an avocado jalapeño. I'm obsessed and use it on everything: chips, fish, steak, eggs. read more

Hubby and I are looking for a cocktail bar on a Saturday night and found this fairly new restaurant in Hackensack. So glad we did. It was a nice small place with 2 bars and roughly a dozen tables. We had the tequila sunrise, pina colada and one more we can't remember but have the picture attached. They did not disappoint. We also had the ceviche mixto and the red snapper. The ceviche and the cocktails are a perfect combo. Service was great and servers checked on us often. Food came out fairly quickly. Our server Shadie (hope we got it right) was also the bartender and she did a great job on both. She mentioned that they often have karaoke night on Fridays and Saturdays. We'll certainly be coming back and try the other drinks with the ceviche again. read more

In the midst of expensive overpriced Bergen county - this place is a hidden gem!!! I honestly don't know how they keep their prices so good (almost every meal was $10-12, and kids 2-7 eat free on Sundays!!), their service was very good, and their food is equally great. Newcomer on Main Street serves up one of the best Birria Tacos in town. We weren't sure what we were in for so we tried a vast assortment to get a feel of the quality of Mexican faire and they delivered! Guacamole is 10 out for f 10 and the Taco Burrito was YUM! Cocktails were good and the service was pretty quick and hospitable. As for ambiance, it is mediocre, therefore not a date spot if you are looking to impress. Floors need an update, would recommend eliminating the front bar to add seating (there is a bar in the back as well), get rid of the atm at the entrance and add a touch of authentic decor/art. We spent at least a half-hour online trying to find a decent Mexican restaurant. Most of the ones near us tend to be a little watered down when it comes to flavor and seasoning. Then we discovered El Alazan. This place reminds me of the little family run places we would frequent when in Mexico. The vibe is Mexican, the music is loud, the menu is short, and the food is oh so good. read more

The service was really good, but we were the only ones there. It was early afternoon. My wife enjoyed the taco salad I just had the taste of Mexico. Which was just an appetizer plate I don't think I'll have it again. The places has bars and things seem to be well stocked. This place is definitely worth the drive. The restaurant is relatively small so just be mindful and plan ahead. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant and how it was decorated. Very "day of the dead" theme even tho it was December. We went for taco Tuesday and all tacos are half off which was amazing. The tacos are pretty standard but I did love the options they had. The downside was the margaritas are made in the morning pre-made and you can't modify the type of tequila in it. They also didn't have frozen margaritas because the machine was broken. Brand new, pretty little restaurant with a couple of bars, what looks like a little dance floor and live entertainment. First things first: their website gives you no idea the sheer amount of food offerings this lovely place offers. So just go. We went for an early lunch and the place was filling up mid-week. Office workers, families, everyone was seated promptly, and our lovely foodserver/manager Jessica took care of everyone. The food. Oh my the food. Since this was our first (and absolutely NOT the last) visit, we hit the items by which we judge kitchens. Come on, we all do it, whether we admit or not. With Mexican cuisine, we try the Quesadilla, Guac, Fish Tacos and Burritos. And in this case, the wings. Holy holy. Everything was fresh, hot and fabulous. Those wings...we got Ortega (I think that's the Chef's name, sorry if I fudged it!) to our table because they were over the top wonderful. Good size, crispy, not greasy at all -- just yumminess through and through. The Fish Tacos were tilapia -- fried crispy and freshly topped and the four tacos made quite the meal. That Taco Burrito made my husband very happy indeed. Guac fresh and choppy -- perfectly seasoned. El Alazan is offering some major major deals on their food. But you really have to go in to understand them all -- their happy hours are extended, their half price entrees are off the chain, and you will leave full, happy, with plans to return. Go go go. This place had a very filling food. They had a very good spicy sauces. And if you're not into spicy food, they had a great not spicy nachos. This is also a great place if you're a vegetarian. Me and my dad had the best time here. There's also really festive decorations. There's even a blowup cactus. Jessica and Ortega are incredible. This should be a Michelin star restaurant. I think they should be famous personalities on TV. I believe if someone could franchise this place they would make millions of dollars and they could eventually run for president because people would love them near and far. Not sure how they get the great reviews !! This place is extremely mediocre. The service was beyond slow when the food arrived it was cold! One person in our party of 3 was served their food five minutes after everyone else and it wasn't even crowded. There was no excuse for the service. They played a constant loop of Selena music. That is pretty irritating as songs were repeating. The chips were bordering on stale and the amount they give you is for a single serving ! The mole is awful. It's not made with chocolate. Not sure what it is. Will not return. read more

Initially, my friends and I used to go every day for lunch, now not so much. I am giving 3 stars because I genuinely do like the food and I will say that Jessica has the best customer service skills & she has always made us feel welcomed. The ambiance is nice as well as the music. Up until recently, there is another woman there who is rather rude and has zero to no customer service. The first issue I had with her (not Jessica, but the Dominican girl) was that my order wasn't given to me correctly, I ordered the lunch special (as usual), stew chicken (I specifically asked for breast) with white rice & no bean; well I got beans and I sent it back-she apologized, brought it back no beans but now with wings and leg, which I don't eat. I couldn't wait so I simply didn't eat it. I will say, after that Jessica did handle it and redeemed the restaurant. After that, every single time the Dominican girl has been there, she is extremely rude and really gives an unwelcoming vibe when she sees us come in. I just had another encounter where she behaved the same way. This was such a great place, but honestly, it's not worth the headache. If you go & Jessica is there, she will take care of you, if you encounter the Dominican waitress be prepared to feel her bad vibe. read more

Being new to the neighborhood, we try to go to different places to see what sticks. We came across this spot via a posting on FB and we were pleasantly surprised. They just opened a few weeks ago so the traffic there was light but the food and drinks were on point. The service was very good, the young ladies very nice and great bartenders, lol. Omg is all I have to say!! I never take the time to write reviews but this cute restaurant deserves 5 stars! We ordered and picked up the food, the restaurant is really cute there was probably 5 different couples having dinner so I told my boyfriend we should eat there next time. The next time has come 2 days after we had it and we are having it delivered. I had the chicken noodle soup and chicken quesadilla and my boyfriend had the mixed burrito, we both loved our food!! He used the side sauces to make his spicy and it was so spicy he was sweating!! Give this local restaurant a try you won't be disappointed!! read more
