I had the worst dining experience of my life after eating at The Cantina yesterday, spent $350 dollars . Shortly after our meal, we experienced what can only be described as severe food poisoning. It has now been two days of intense stomach pain and not being able to leave the bathroom. The only items we all shared were the ceviche appetizer and the guacamole, and those were the only common foods we ate. This has been an extremely unpleasant and painful experience. I'm very disappointed and truly hope the restaurant takes food safety seriously so this doesn't happen to anyone else. Unfortunately, I will never be returning. read more

I had tried the food in this place about 2 years ago and the food wasn't bad. I stopped today and the food was awful. My co-worker ordered the Pozole and the taste was horrendous, it tasted like boiled meats that had been microwaved. He usually doesn't send food back but this one broke the guy. I ordered the skirt steak tacos and they were not good at all. No seasoning on the meat just plain meat. The limes/radishes and cucumbers that come with the food looked dry which is a sign of something that has been seating in the fridge for a long time. There are better Mexican restaurants in the area that are cheaper and way more palatable than this place. read more

What a nice surprise! First off, valet parking. incredibly pointless. Nice touch i guess when its packed, but...oh well. I had reservations for 3 on a saturday at 5. i received confirmation via email and texts. the hostess couldnt find our reservations. to be honest, myself and my mom felt like she didnt believe us. i even showed her everything, she had a bit of an attitude, and seemed annoyed. make sure to keep your texts and emails because sometimes IT issues happen, but whoever the hostess was working that night didnt seem to believe us. Service was exceptional. Fast, polite, friendly and everyone was paying attention. incredibly organized and smooth. We were approached by a photographer during our drinks and apps to take a group pic. (smart way to make some cash and give out a souvineer, my mom ate this shit up). pics are $20 and come in frame. photographer took 2 pics, b&w and color. Food wise - we grabbed the pollo flautas. theyre basically 2 wide ones, topped with some guac and lettuce, cut in half. so 4 halves in total. we LOVED these. chicken was juicy and seasoned well, also the shell wasnt dried out and over fried. 4 salmon tacos order. modestly priced at $22. i liked these a lot, they were pretty simple, but the salmon was cooked and seasoned well. this is sharable as an app, or very filling for a slob like me who ate all 4. everyone else loved their chicken fajita and steak tacos. would come back in a heartbeat for drinks and to check out live entertainment. make reservations! dont let this location fool you, it gets packed. read more

I went here for the first time this past weekend and I had a nice experience. The decor inside is beautiful and the food is great. I ordered a red sangria and mango margarita. I also got the nachos and chicken which was a great proportion. I loved the chorizo quesadillas as well. I would state to make a reservation as you may be waiting an hour if you do not reserve on time. I was excited to try this place, I recently read it was rated the #2 Mexican restaurant in NJ. I don't know who wrote that review but I'm sorry they have never had real Mexican food. I'm also honestly astonished at the amount of 5 star reviews. it was as very disappointing and we won't be back. we ordered the guacamole and it had no flavor or spices. we suspect it was "mockamole" where restaurants add zucchini or cucumbers to it to stretch it out. it came out ice cold and watery which is not normal. it was likely made much earlier in the day. it came out immediately after we ordered it which was suspicious. we commented "wow that was quick" as did the table next to us when they ordered it. I ordered the "Asian inspired" tuna/salmon tartare. I wish it had inspired to have flavor. no hint of sesame oil or serrano and mockamole on top. I had to keep salting it so it had any taste at all. the tostones were good once we heavily salted them but again no flavor. sadly only one meal was very good. a couple of us ordered mezcal and were served regular tequila. we were told it was indeed mezcal. the bartender sent the server over with the bottle, he thought visual aid would make it so. the poor server, who was excellent, kept being sent back by the bar to convince us it was mezcal. if you've had mezcal you know it immediately. it smells like an ashtray with tequila in it. we were ultimately charged for 1 mystery tequila which I suppose was fair. oddly enough we ordered a margarita that did have mezcal in it so I guess he did know what it was we just weren't served it. the bartenders were too busy playing "Cocktail" flipping shakers and being filmed to care. bottom line....no amount of cheesy decor and silly costumes makes a good restaurant. they need to train their chefs and bartenders about the cuisine they are serving. the service was excellent, very attentive and plentiful, although a bit rushed by the kitchen. they were churning tables over like a diner which wasn't necessary as there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. they have valet parking which is completely unnecessary. there are also were a lot of huge tv's with baseball on all of the restaurant. it was very distracting. you either want to be an upscale place with a dress code or a sports bar. you can't be both. very odd experience, and expensive for what we had. sadly we won't be giving them another try. read more

Food excellent. Qualities Enough to take home after eating your fill. Quality, Steak so tender, shrimp succulent and sweet, tortilla taste homemade. Appetizers could be a meal by themselves. We dink drink, but neighboring tables looked very happy with theirs. The real reason I enjoy having dinner here is the atmosphere. It is one big party all the time. If even on table is celebrating something it is like everyone is also celebrating. If there is no obvious party someone will start one. Just so much fun. read more

9/7/24 We noticed a Mexican restaurant took over the Chinese restaurant at this location, so we decided to try it. :) Valet Parking Only For a restaurant that was almost full, service was still swift. Our waitress was friendly and had a big smile. That is always a good sign. :) Hubby got a cocktail, but we forgot what it was, but it was so pretty. Hubby enjoyed the drink, as it was nice and strong. Coca-Cola came from Mexico in a glass bottle. Why does this taste so much better than the American bottles?!?!?! Tuna Tartare Guacamole is a must-have! We were a bit hesitant but were curious about it since it's different. Turns out to be a great choice. This is how we want to have Guacamole from now on! LOL Pulpo a la Braza was tender and well seasoned. The micro salad that accompanied was good, and the dressing is delicious. Hubby enjoyed his meal. I personally didn't care for the tortilla strips in the salad, but that is my personal preference. Salmon a la Plancha was a letdown. It was overcooked, so it was a bit dry. The food took forever to come out... we made reservations for 6:30 pm. We arrived on time. When we were seated, there were about four tables in the restaurant with people at them. I was happy about that because I was thinking that our food would come out quickly. After we placed our order, The restaurant began to fill up about 30 minutes after that we were still waiting on our food. When we received our food, mine came out wrong. The waiter failed to advise me on how the food was prepared and how I should order my food because I did not want onions on my shrimp tacos. He did not tell me that the sauce was prepared with the onions in it and that my shrimp tacos will come out with nothing on it but shrimp and cheese. I was very disappointed because I had to send my order back and wait again. By the time it came out, I packed up my food to go. I did not like it. The only thing that I liked was the guacamole. The atmosphere was great. The staff was great. There was a guy walking around taking pictures that offered to sell them to us in frames. I thought that was a nice touch. They only had valet parking which was not fair. You had to pay for everything from the time you got out the car until you left. To be honest, I was not impressed. I finally came to Cantina 46 and enjoyed the visit. The restaurant has a festive decor, large televisions, music always playing, a nice bar, and a friendly waitstaff. Our server, Gabriel, was exceptional. He went above and beyond with ensuring that we were satisfied with our selections and was attentive throughout the entire meal. We started with the Guacamole Tropical ($18.00) and it was a great choice. The guac was mixed with mango, jicama, and grilled pineapple. The combination of all of those ingredients made this a GREAT starter and the stone bowl that it came in was beautiful. My Coconut Margarita ($15.00) was VERY GOOD. It had an appealing presentation and STRONG! Their complimentary chips and salsa was good and the salsa was pleasantly spicy. The entrees were large and to-go containers were definitely required. The first entree was La Hamburgesa, with Yuca Frita ($21.00). The second was the Burrito Supremo (Sirloin steak, shrimp, chicken, mozzarella, spicy red and green sauce on top, with a side of sweet plantains. $19.00). Very cute decor and good service. Ordered a classic margarita on the rocks with sugar rim (yes they have a choice of sugar or salt). we ordered traditional guacamole and queso. Both are great. Should have been served with serving spoons because we didn't realize that chorizo was underneath the bubbling cheese. I had the chicken tacos with pineapple and guacamole, and one of my friends had the shrimp tacos. It came with four tacos so we traded. No complaints at all. Would definitely go back. read more

We were here for a family celebration I had seen this on social media and decided to be brave to try it --it is not on the menu, but I asked the hostess and she knew what I was talking about -- Chimoltrufia - a ridiculously expensive and STRONG drink - it had Grand manier, Hennessy, Casamigos and Coronita! This drink -- my two cents -- have it at your own risk - or order one and share it across the table!!! Also, some of us had Strawberry Margarita, Estilio Vinejo - both drinks were good. I visited Cantina 46 for a team dinner with my colleagues and our vendor. The restaurant is right off Route 46, had plenty of parking, and was pretty packed by the end of the night. I think it becomes a lounge later on the night. + Traditional guac 5/5: I actually really liked the guac! It was creamy and fresh. One of my coworkers actually ordered another one for herself lol. + Taco de Churrasco 3/5: Not my favorite carne asada tacos. The steak was really dry and chewy, and in really big cuts. The wait time and service will make you not want to come. If that was at least good I would've given this place five stars. We were there for 2.5 hours total. The first app didn't come until 45 minutes into our time and the main meal came an hour later. Busy or not, you should be prepared to make the food at reasonable time. Onto the food and drinks...The food and drinks are really good. The drinks are strong and tasty. The guac trip was sooo good. It had chicken, tuna and pineapple guava that had great flavor. The molcajete of meats was delicious but we didn't get to eat it all there because they took an hour after our appetizer came to bring it to us. Went here as a guest to a birthday party. There was valet in the front when I first got there. I went in and the place was very popular for Friday evening. The bar was completely full and I'm sure there was a wait as a lot of people in the front entryway. The place was very loud, which is one of the first things that I noticed which I didn't put against them... It was a Friday night. The service was subpar at best, I think the waiter only came back twice throughout the whole entire night after we had ordered. I also didn't really care for any of the food and I was able to try a variety of different things on their menus just because I was a part of a big party and nothing really stood out to me. Delicious food! Great drinks! I've heard about Cantina 46 for a while but didn't visit until recently. It was a Friday night and not busy at all when I came in. We were seated immediately. There was a mariachi band and someone at a table singing which was funny but loud. There were a lot of tables. The decor was modern and more trendy than usual Mexican restaurants. They even have a little VIP section by the big screen. I love the floral pieces in the center too. We started off with drinks. I had a Frozen Passionfruit Margarita and my gf had the Sex in Tulum. They were both delicious! I believe I had 2. For our entrees we were both in the mood for enchiladas so I had the chicken that comes in a green sauce with a side of rice and beans. She ordered the steak that comes in red sauce with rice and beans. We both loved our choices and even each other's. They were both a solid meal and portion was great. I've only been here for happy hour so I can only review about my experience at the bar. I didn't like that we had to valet the car , it's an extra five dollars just to park. My boyfriend and I had the margaritas at the bar and we were impressed with the presentation and drinks. They were on the sweeter side but still good. We went for golf at 21 golfs and this was one of the places that was serving food around 11:30 PM so we thought you give it a try. I didn't have high hopes but when we went inside, it was really fun vibe ..music was a tad bit loud but that's fine given that the ambience was like people could dance. we loved the food. I ordered, Chile Verde and my husband got fajitas. Both the dishes were very good. We also ordered Mexican corn starter, that was also delicious all in all loved the food. Went here for lunch and it was amazing. The service was really nice. For starters the menu was impressive as I never seen such a Ln extensive menu for Mexican food. Speaking of food, I had the Chipotle Chicken Quesadila and also had the tropical guacamole, which included pomegranate and pineapple. Hands down the best Guacamole I ever had in life. This is a great happy hour spot. Friendly and attentive staff. Nice decor and clean bathrooms. We filled up on flights of frozen margaritas, fresh guac with warm chips, and finished with a plate of fried fish tacos. Drinks were very good. Frozen mango and coconut were our favorites. The guacamole was plentiful and creamy. My only complaints which isn't a complaint but a suggestion- the fish tacos need a bit of texture some where. Think about adding a tablespoon or so of a crisp, Dressed slaw of some sort on it. The tacos tasted good and were properly cooked but the layer of guac/dressing and hot fish on a warm taco went down kind of mushy. Nothing to really sink your teeth into. Stopped by this place around 3pm on Saturday, the decorations and Mexican themed I loved very colorful and vibrant. There was good music in the background and a space for a dj not sure the schedule, I ordered a passion fruit margarita which was very good, the queso fundido with chorizo app. Personally the queso fundido was delicious and I couldn't find the chorizo until the bottom so if I were to order it again I would try the plain queso fundido nothing added to it. I also ordered the tacos with pulpo and chicharrón which I thought were delicious they had these pickled onions on top and everything was well seasoned it came with a roasted red pepper sauce which I just ate with chips. I took a star away because all Mexican restaurants I have been to give complimentary chips and salsa this one does not. I also was under-impressed with the salsa tasted watery almost from a jar. The restaurant looks much larger outside than inside, but it was decorated very nicely and they even had a live performance. For dinner, I ordered the chicken quesadilla and I think this was the best quesadilla I've ever had. I came here yesterday. Valet parking was a must as it was super packed. No problem although I am not a fan of valet parking. When I left the restaurant the attendant grabbed my car. Mind you the attendants were rude, did not say a word to me, and did not even answer me when I asked a question about valet. When my car came I didn't even get a chance to take out the tip I was going to give the valet attendant before he rudely said, "where is my tip?" At first I wasn't sure if I heard him right so I said, "say again?" And he again in a more rude tone said, "are you going to give me a tip? Tip? Tip?" I looked at him and said no. Grabbed my keys.
