I finally made it out to the Cinder Block taproom after drinking their beer around Kansas City for years, and honestly there's something cool about finally sitting where it all actually gets made. The space feels relaxed and approachable without trying too hard. Big open taproom, easy atmosphere, good energy. The kind of brewery where you can settle in for one beer and accidentally stay for five. Mary behind the bar was awesome right away. Friendly greeting the second I walked in, super knowledgeable about every beer on tap, and genuinely helpful without making anything feel scripted or sales-y. Hospitality matters to me a lot, and she made the experience feel welcoming immediately. I worked my way through quite a few beers: Hop Cuddle, the collaboration with Tall Trellis, their Mexican-style lager, Weathered Wit, Pavers Porter, and the rice lager. Every single one was excellent, but that rice lager was probably my favorite. Crisp, clean, refreshing, incredible mouthfeel -- one of those beers that disappears way faster than you planned. Weathered Wit deserves a shout too. Light tartness, citrus notes, classic Belgian yeast character, ridiculously refreshing. We made this brewery our main hub for Snake Saturday and it didn't disappoint. The space is massive with an awesome patio, pool tables, and plenty of TVs. It's definitely a spot I'd come back to on a normal weekend. ​The Drinks ​The Hits: The Hard Cherry Mash Sour Cider and the bright green Scooby Snack were both fantastic. ​The Miss: The Irish Coffee. They couldn't tell me what kind of coffee they used--a major red flag for a coffee cocktail. ​The Food (Bay Boy Specialty Sandwiches) ​They were serving sandwiches from Bay Boy alongside gourmet chips. I grabbed the El Jefe with Sweet Onion Hawaiian chips. ​The Sandwich: A killer Cuban-inspired build on their signature Dutch Crunch bread. That bread is the real deal--super crispy on the outside and soft inside. Because of the crowds it did take about 20 minutes to get our food but the girl behind the counter was really nice despite trying to serve hordes of celebratory drunkies. ​The Atmosphere ​Beyond the beer, the parking lot was full of food vendors and some really cool cars. My last review for Cinder Block was 6 years ago during Covid, and they were delivering beer to my house since the brewery was closed because of the outbreak; my what a different time! So, did they survive the pandemic? You bet they did and they have since expanded with the opening of The Commons - an adjacent space with free games and a larger alcohol selection and a space they rent to Bay Boy Sandwiches- the best sammy shop in KC (both have separate Yelp reviews). Cinder Block is my very favorite in KC because they are the closest to my home (cheaper Ubers), a solid variety of beers, a great staff, a huge block-long complex with dozens of seating options indoors and out and a great clientele - I always seem to have some of the best conversations at the bar when I'm here. Last week I was here to watch a couple of World Cup matches and made three new friends. If I'm wanting to go out and unsure where - I'll always head to Cinder Block / The Commons! We went to the CiderFest event they held over the weekend, and we had a GREAT time! They have a huge space now, with tons to do while you're there. They have plenty of space for a group, or just a couple friends depending on who you're coming to hang out with. There is a big outdoor area for seating, and then they have a huge space inside with games, corn hole, swinging chairs, and a bar with cocktails as well as the normal bar for the brewery! Bay boy now has a walk up window you can order a delicious Dutch crunch sammie from to enjoy with a crisp cold beer. Cinderella block currently has a Royals themed Blue Raspberry Sour Ale and it is AMAZING! The ciders we tried were very interesting, the Yuzu was by far the best one with the Pineberry taking second place. We came for Tuesday night trivia. We brought in pizza from another restaurant which is common and allowed. The beer was really good, staff was friendly and the trivia night was fun. Trivia is held in a separate room so noise from the main bar is minimal. Will return. read more

There are many breweries in KCMO and there are many BBQeries in KCMO...but there aren't many of these 'eries that are within walking distance of each other. This is one of those exceptions! I went to F325 BBQ first, then walked a few blocks to this brewery. They had a great selection beers, and also ciders. The highlight though, was talking about Alaska with the lovely woman working the taps. It was close to closing but I didn't feel shamed or rushed at all, outstanding service! read more

I recently visited Cinder Block Brewery for the first time in a while to check out the new/extended space, The Commons. They did a great job with it. There's a few arcade games, pool, darts, cornhole etc. The layout and aesthetic is awesome. Cinder Block also partnered with Bay Boy so you can get an awesome sandwich while you hangout, drink and play games. It's so cool to see Cinder Block grow and succeed. We've stopped in at Cinder Block many times and always enjoyed the beer and experience. We came by over the weekend to see the new expansion space, The Commons. This space is National Park themed, which I love and has plenty of seating and even some swings. There were games like darts, pool, and corn hole as well as arcade games that were free to play. I was in the area and had a little time to kill so I popped in for a beer. Staff was helpful in describing what was what of their beer flavors. Very good brewpub in NKC...very large interior as well as a large outdoor patio area...not many IPA's to choose from but the one had was very solid, so much so that a six pack was purchased on leaving...service was fine as it wasn't very busy and I just walked up to bar and ordered...didn't notice any food and it was later in the night so if there was a food truck it had probably already left for the evening...it is kid friendly and they do have some non alcohol drinks as well as freeze pops for sale...all in all this is a good place to have a beer and unwind, will try again next time in the area...RECOMMEND read more

The day was dreary as I met my friend at Cinder Block brewery. We were both feeling low and wanting a cold one to forget about life for a while. So it was a jolt to our dour perspectives, finding the tasting room to be a Mecca of tranquil positivity and happy people, with abundant foliage hanging from the ceiling, along with comfortable seating. We settled in on one of the plush couches and ordered up some liquid mood enhancers. Cold and delicious were they, the Juicy Pils and Passion Party of particular note. Between the quality of the brew and the enchanted surroundings, the veil of gloom was lifted. Happier outlooks prevailed, also due in part to the super friendly servers, who, I get the feeling, will always brighten your day, peering into your soul and matching your disposition with the perfect ale for you. Or, more likely, serving whatever pour you request. A great, fun spot. read more

Cinder Block is one of my top ten favorite breweries in KC! They've been a staple for the past ten years at least and I always enjoy going and enjoying some beverages. They have a large space in NKC with plenty of seating. The brewery is kinda split in half or thirds is probably more accurate. There's the main brewery area where you can order beer, plenty of seating, and TVs if you want to catch a game. Then there's the reclamation room that can be booked for private events or can be used for additional seating and space. Finally there's a giant patio with even more seating-covered and uncovered and even some yard games-bags. The outside patio is dog friendly btw. The staff are always friendly and helpful. They don't have food but they have a nifty kiosk that you can order food from the bbq spot next door that can then be delivered to you at the brewery. Or you can bring your own or maybe hit up whatever food truck is visiting-check CB's socials to see who is on deck. They offer a wide variety of beer. One of my favorites is Black Squirrel. It's a delicious stout and I love including it as part of my annual Black Friday festivities. If you're not into beer, they also have a pretty wide selection of ciders. And they're actually good, probably one of the best in ciders amongst the other breweries. Recently they started offering cocktails-frozen and just regular. Those have also been great. I love the option of a frozen cocktail on their giant patio on a gorgeous sunny day. Definitely check them out! read more

When you walk in you get such a good vibe. It's super adorable and plenty of plants! The couches that are options to sit at are super comfy. This is definitely kid friendly. We went on a Friday night and it wasn't too busy. I got a cherry cider that wasn't bad. I'm not a huge fan of their beers. But if it fits your flavor profile definitely a neat spot! I stopped in here on a Tuesday evening while passing through town. This is a nice little brewery. They had trivia going on in one section but I sat at the bar as it was quieter. The bar tenders were friendly and fast. I tried their cherry cider and the Mexican lager, both were good. Of the two the cider was my favorite, as it wasn't too sweet or tart considering it was a cider. The area around the brewery also seemed to offer a lot. I'll definitely stop by again on future visits to KC. read more

I'm a huge fan of microbreweries and trivia. If you're also a fan, you'll surely enjoy Cinder Block. Located in an unassuming/industrial part of North Kansas City, it's a must visit for beer lovers. They have several staple beers, including Block IPA, Hop Cuddle (Hazy IPA), Juicy Pils, Real Fine Lager and Weathered Wit. They also have some ciders, frozen mixed drinks, and wine available for those who don't enjoy beer. While they don't serve my favorite beers in the area, my favorite beer here is the Hop Cuddle. Cinder Block also often has a variety of food trucks (some of which are vegetarian or vegan friendly), so call ahead if you have a dietary restriction. Otherwise, you're able to bring in outside food. They have Geeks Who Drink trivia on Tuesday nights, which is always a fun time. It's in the side room, so make sure you find a table in there if you want to participate. This is also a good place to stop if you are on a bike ride in the area. read more

I'm reviewing this both as a brewery and a wedding venue! I love this brewery. They've got an awesome layout with tons of cool seating and tables made out of old barrels and a great outdoor space with yard games and cute twinkling lights. They make great beer all around, but we are actually huge fans of their cider. They recently had a cider fest and it was so fun. This brewery has a beautiful country feel with its rustic interior decor and friendly, helpful staff. They offer beer flights and growlers. Everyone, to include their patrons are friendly. It's really a very inviting place and calm atmosphere. My husband and I recently introduced some friends of ours to this place and they really loved it as well. They have a good variety of IPAs and ciders. I love ciders and recommend the Mango Tart. My husband who is an IPA drinker liked the Mango Tart as much as I did, we decided to purchase a growler of it to take home. Highly recommend this establishment. read more

Decided to hit up Cinder Block and I'm so glad I did. On Black Friday they release their Black Squirrel Imperial Stout. I didn't know this when I walked in but I had to try it when that's all you see when you walk in. It is so good and has so many flavors all at once. It's not an all night drink but would definitely make a good dessert drink. On top of that the bartender was really great and we helped with music selection. I'm a big Cider and Sour fan and they always have plenty of options on tap. They are super fast and accommodating. They have plenty of seating; outside, bar, high top, table top, couch. Cinder block has a great little selection of crafted beers. I opted for the cherry cider and it was really good. My friends all selected different drafts and and really enjoyed them. Loved the industrial/whiskey barrel decor. The interior was large with lots of seating options and the patio area was very large. Lots of patio tables with umbrellas and a coupe of corn hole games. This popular brewery is located across from chicken n pickle and on a block hoping with restaurants and breweries. The day we visited they offered 7 different brews , 2 ciders and a barley wine! We settled for the real fine lager. It had a crisp taste with a smooth finish. The vibe was very cozy, chill and relaxed. In the back room a game of trivia was going on. In the main bar area is a mix of cozy couches, comfy chairs high and low top tables. They also have a really big outdoor area.
