This liquor store that also doubles as a bar is a very curated place. The liquor store side sells some rare types of alcohol you might struggle to find in other places. Their selection ranges from Fernet Branca to really good bourbons to fancy bottles of gin. I think there's even a pistachio liquor that I saw. The store side also sells a ton of bitters to make a huge collection for your home bar. Lastly, the store has drink ware and notebooks you could keep your recipes in. The bar side is a fantastic place to grab a drink in North Kansas City. The bar has access to the same big selection of liquor the store sells on the store side. Actually, the bartender ran out into the store side to restock a bottle when it ran dry. I asked for a drink that normally needs to be made with Sprite. The bar didn't have it but the bartender said he'd get creative. He did just that when he added soda to lime juice and I couldn't really tell the difference. When we went, the bar's television had on the classic movie Office Space. It was fun to just sit back and watch it again.

Unique spot! Buying bottles in cocktail arrangements and then a cozy bar in back is a phenomenal set up. The bartender crafts insanely good drinks. Staff in general was great. Such a fun part of town. Great prices!

Excellent selection of spirits especially gin and Japanese whiskey. Drinks are okay, very strong but to be expected when there are 2-3 in every drink. The espresso martini was diff than any we had, had before -right or wrong. The mixologist was slightly off putting, more concerned with the TV remote than serving. No thank your any customer service aura to him. The place was fairly full so hard to get a vibe check. The place seems nice and it's in the heart of NKC, which makes it walking distance to much.

Custom made for me!

Mitch e Amaro is a little gem of a liquor store and craft cocktail bar hidden on Armour in downtown North Kansas City. It opened in 2019 and was impacted like many small establishments by closure during Covid. As my wife became a budding mixologist during the pandemic, a visit was in order. Follow her on Instagram at boozin_with-soozin! Mitch e Amaro is perfect for home bartenders and cocktail nerds (their term). Beyond a superb selection of the finest liquors, they also have all the utensils and ingredients to be a rock star bartender. My wife loved her first drink, a $40 shot of The Boss Hog straight rye whiskey over ice. Exquisite was her first word! I tried several cocktails, the Negroni, Aviation and Corpse Reviver for me. I'm more of a gin fan. Each drink was better than the last. Susan had a Sazerac and closed out the night with the classic Old Fashion. Beyond the friendliness of the staff, they really do a great job of listening and explaining what makes each drink special. My only wish is they served some salty snacks while you drink. Otherwise, it was a perfect evening.

These nonalcoholic mixers make for great nighttime relaxation routines.

Josh and Ben are running a one of a kind curated liquor store and wonderful back bar. A great addition to North Kansas City (or any city).

Employee acted "too good" for us. We asked questions and he gave one word answer. Just sat on his phone the whole time. Won't go back.

When we arrived, it was a little quiet, so we sat at the bar. The two bartenders working were welcoming. One of them asked if we were there to eat, handed us menus, and then let us know what wasn't in stock. It was a little weird that they were out of chicken quarters, pasta salad (or was it potato?), burgers (maybe that's a testament to their popularity), and bacon... Thankfully, the mac & cheese was available, so the mission wasn't a fail. The plus was that it came with a side of fries, and not just any-- they were seasoned sidewinder fries, for those of you who are fans of thicker potatoes. I had the Italian po-boy, which I really enjoyed. I thought they constructed it well, and the spicy relish wasn't too much heat if you're worried about that. It was definitely the right amount of food, too. I was able to clean the plate and not regret the last bite. At this point, they've been open for 8 months, so I think they've worked out the kinks, but we also showed up on a Wednesday night, so service was great and attentive. It might be different on weekends, but I'd come back to try more things on the food menu.

We went there before a Knucklehead's show, which allowed us to just hop down the road conveniently. So don't overlook this if you're headed to the East Bottoms for some live music. While the food was good, this will definitely be a little better ambience with a good crew, soccer game, or weekend. Food was delicious. Pork belly bites were cooked to perfection, fries perfectly crispy, the grilled cheese sandwich was still good even left over the next day!! So, so good. With that said, I took off a star because while it was empty, the bartender was not the friendliest. We were asking about the menu, deciding between choices and he was rolling his eyes and loudly sighing, like we were inconveniencing him. Meanwhile, there were zero people in the other area of the restaurant, and all of the patrons were sitting at the bar. Maybe 6-10 max? There were two of us girls. I'm not gonna say he was hired because of muscles and being good looking... But I'm going to say customer service isn't his forté, rubbed us wrong when excited to try a new place. I absolutely hate including this on reviews. But being a new restaurant on a slow night, I don't like feeling like I'm supposed to profusely apologize for sitting at the bar.

The restaurant is attached to a hotel but had a ton of different seating options. I had planned to stay for a while, but our tow arrived unexpectedly early. The bartender and kitchen staff were amazing and changed our order to carry out, put a rush on the food, and gave us the check. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and even as take out it was so good. There was a ton of chicken and cheese inside and even some vegetables (I think pico). I would definitely return and the friendly staff knocked it out of the park!

That changed yesterday, when Diana Condori, the bar manager, was named a 2026 James Beard Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service semifinalist. As we love supporting restaurants and bars that receive that kind of recognition, my wife and I headed to Fern Bar that evening. I was especially curious what exactly a "sugarcane and agave bar" meant. We arrived around 5:30pm and found only a handful of guests inside. After congratulating the bartender who first served us, he mentioned that Diana was working that night and would stop by to meet us. During our conversation, Diana shared that she didn't even know she had been nominated. She woke up Tuesday to a call from owner Bryan Arri, who said he had big news and was coming over. Her first thought was that something terrible had happened--like the bar had burned down. Instead, he showed up with coffee and told her she was a James Beard honoree. Diana is originally from Bolivia and has lived in Kansas City most of her life, with the exception of time spent in San Francisco during the pandemic. She further refined her cocktail craft through local pop-ups in Kansas City under the name Condor's Cove. When Bryan was preparing to open Fern Bar, he reached out to bring her onto the team. The printed cocktail menu immediately reminded me of the Monarch and the Mercury Room--not surprising given Bryan's background at Manifesto and the Monarch. Thoughtful, intentional, and clearly designed for people who appreciate serious cocktails. We planned on having one or two drinks but ended up staying for three, thanks to an outstanding lineup and a memorable conversation with Diana. We tasted: * No Fly Zone - Rum, agave, pineapple foam * Mr. Collage - Smooth, elegant, egg-white cocktail * Three Negroni Lunch - Bitter, boozy, and beautifully balanced * Pendergast No. 4 - Complex and spirit-driven * It's Bananas - Banana liqueur with bright tropical notes * Off the Rails - Creative and well-executed rum/agave cocktail One downside of many cocktail-forward bars is the lack of food, but Fern Bar offers two varieties of mini burritos for $4--just enough protein to keep things balanced while indulging. Great concept, exceptional service, and truly memorable drinks. Check it out--and be sure to say hello to Diana.
