Border Brewing used to be one of my favorite places to meet friends and unwind after work. It relaxed atmosphere that made it easy to recommend. Unfortunately, that has changed. During my recent visits, I repeatedly observed behavior from one of the bartenders that made the environment feel uncomfortable and unprofessional. This man has frequently crossed personal boundaries and generally came across as someone who was more interested in making female patrons uncomfortable than providing good service. Instead of feeling like a place where everyone could relax, the atmosphere felt like a boys' club where inappropriate behavior was tolerated. The biggest disappointment wasn't just the employee's conduct--it was the lack of action or acknowledgement by management that concerns are taken seriously. Instead of addressing complaints, they move to suppress reviews. When an establishment allows and enables behavior that makes customers feel uncomfortable or unsafe, it reflects on the business as a whole. I used to recommend Border Brewing without hesitation, but I can't anymore. There are plenty of breweries in Kansas City where everyone can enjoy themselves without worrying about being subjected to inappropriate comments or an unwelcoming atmosphere. read more

It was dead on a Friday around 2p but that's a good thing cause I got my flight fast. I thought the place was cool, they have a good amount of seats inside but that have an OUTSIDE PATIO that has a good amount of space. Beers were good and no shitty ones. Im off the shitty IPA thing cause they all taste the same, the same ass taste! The one thing I thought was weird was the Mens bathroom is JUST A URINAL. If you have to shit, use the garbage? My second stop in a self-directed Crossroads brewery crawl, and my first visit to this location after they moved here from a couple of blocks west from here a few years ago. I only stayed for one beer - the Lithuanian Farmhouse Ale, and it delivered the smooth kick that I love about Farmhouse style beers. Border Brewing Company has been around for a while now and in my opinion has solidified itself as a solid brewery amongst the ever growing micro brewery scene in Kansas City. When you walk in, it's clear you're in a brewery. It has the quintessential OG brewery vibe. It's not pretentious, though, and the bartenders at work here are amongst the kindest I've met in KC. They will happily tell you more about any of the brews on tap and help make recommendations. The last time I was here I was meeting a friend I had their take on a Mexican lager - it was great! This isn't the kind of brewery that has the variety of beers that would keep me returning regularly, but I'm super glad they're here, and I think they make a great product. Bevy of Breweries (and they're all beauties) Border Brewing Company keeps with the alliteration and supplies some pretty bodacious brews as well as some tasty cocktails, colorful ciders, and unique seltzer beverages. It's located in the aptly named "brewers alley" and used to be located a block or so down the street. The new spot is a lot more spacious, and the purple painted outside draws you in from the street. It was a perfect stop on a walking jaunt during First Fridays in the crossroads arts district. The line wasn't long, and the drinks were poured and served with lighting speed! I was impressed. What also left me impressed with the newer selection of Kin Hard Seltzer cocktails, how neat, especially since Kin is the first black owned seltzer brand and is partly owned by one of the same owners of Border. This fun pink drink had a flavor of Kin Sletzer mixed with vodka and gin but, tasted like pink lemonade. It would be the perfect pool time sipper, I usually don't like sweet drinks however, this one was fun and balanced. The beer we went with was an IPA and had rich complex hoppy flavor (though I forgot which one it was). A new storefront is a good reason to post an updated review. The brewery has moved down the street into some sweet new digs. The new, spacious room is extensively decorated in modern woodwork, complete with a long wraparound bar. That bar was constructed with built in cell phone chargers, just in case you need a little juice while you're bellied up. There's a backyard patio that when finished, will not only be an awesome spot when the weather is right, but will also house a small stage for live music performances. Stopped by for a happy hour drink. I enjoyed the cute patio space with live music and cute art. We decided on this brewery over the several others in the area because of their great happy hour deals. Beers were $5 and they had a couple other specials as well. I was a little disappointed because we were charged wrong in the end. One of the beers was not included in the happy hour price, which was fine but I wish the bartender would have mentioned it before. We even told her we were there to enjoy the happy hour. Then our second round was not rung up as happy hour at all even though it was still happy hour. We didn't say anything so I can't be too upset about it. The bartender was really nice besides the mistake. The beer was also delicious. I was able to try several between my friends and I and enjoyed them all. I had a great time and will be back. Small brewery with about 5-6 choices. Bartender was friendly but did seem like she'd rather be somewhere else. A couple other people were wrapping up (Sunday football games) when I came in. So it was just for a good portion of my time there. I ordered their most popular according to the bartender. The #1 Strawberry Blonde. Price with tip was $7.50. I imagine that's about average. WOW was this beer good. It was so smooth and tasty. I could have drank it all day. No food served here - I think I saw pretzels as a snack. They have about five - 4x person tables. The stools don't have backs which made it a little uncomfortable sitting to watch the game for an extended period of time. There are about 5 TVs as well to watch games. Nice brewery in the middle of Crossroads with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We saw people of all ages at the brewery and some people had their dogs with them too. I ordered the Chocolate Milk Stout and it was delicious. Not too sweet and too easy to drink. The BF had the Patio Pale Ale and also enjoyed his beer. I will say that I have never had a nicer bartender. This man (sorry--I wish I had his name) could possibly be the owner? Either way, he was super nice. I don't think I ever saw him without a big smile on his face. And not a cheesy, fake smile. He looked like he honestly loved his job, loved the people who were in the brewery and just was loving life. Refreshing to see people actually love what they are doing. I love the little patio at Border! Great for an evening beer and some people watching .. especially if it's first fridays in Crossroads. Border Brewing has some solid craft beers on tap. They have lots of options as far as type of beer - IPAs, dark beer, pale ale, etc. I really like the Shiftie IPA and the Patio Pale Ale. With just 5 beers on tap here, I think they are off to a great start. I went in on Saturday to try some of their brews and was met with an insane crowd of people at 230pm. Apparently there was some crawl or run or some such thing & they were all screaming and standing everywhere. I nearly walked right out from the packed brewery but decided to trudge on. Thankfully they rolled out shortly there after and I was able to breathe again, phew! Border Brewing has a good mix of bar seating and high tops of varying sizes plus room to move when it isn't being used as a marathon spot. It's a pretty chill atmosphere though something seemed to slightly lack for me...I think it may have just been the comfort level which I'm sure will come with some time as they've been open for more time. I was able to snag a parking spot right in front of the brewery which was awesome. One of the interesting things to me about KC is the abundance of parking and not just parking but completely gratis parking! I digress. Samplers were just $2 each so I was able to get a flight of all five on draught for just ten bucks plus tip. I had their Blonde Ale (meh), Patio Extra Pale Ale (I'm not usually into pales but this was phenomenal), Rooftop Red Ale (solid though not mind blowing), Double IPA (great aroma, solid taste) and their Campfire Porter. I love a good smoked beer and that porter had that great smokey flavor. The standouts for me were the Patio Extra Pale Ale and the Campfire Porter, hands down. Border Brewing was the first micro-brewery in the Crossroads Arts District of KC having opened 5 years ago. They started a renaissance in brewing in KC and attracted several others to pursue their dreams and launch breweries. The District now hosts 5 amazing breweries, each with their own feel and approach to craft beer. Border stood out to us with extremely helpful staff as well as customers who guided us through tasting the 10 craft beers on draught. The standouts to us were the Coffee Break Nitro Cream Ale that had so much coffee flavor we couldn't believe it wasn't a rich black color, the Lights Out Stout made in collaboration with Double Shift Brewing next door that featured Star Anise (my fav) and Fennel Seed, and their staple Strawberry Blonde. Now, let's be honest, when we walked into Border Brewing we weren't expecting to get excited about a 4% fruited blonde ale, but that's why it's such a great beer, because it renewed our interest in what is usually a straight forward brew. I have never been here before so when friends suggested we meet at Border, I was down to clown. There are so many things to love about this place; I can't gush enough. Our friends arrived early with their baby and were comfortably seated on the only couch in the space. They were immediately greeted and overwhelmed (in a good way) by the kindness and hospitality of the owner. We ordered two flights of beers and enjoyed a really nice evening. I'm not a huge beer fan, but GUYS, it's so good. Strawberry Blonde is so yum! I can honestly say that all the beers offered were delicious. Some I liked more than others, but there wasn't one I disliked. This place is so laidback and cool, there was a dog chilling inside the bar, and it's so my vibe.
