Cindy has changed my dogs life! We adopted our senior pit bull girl after she was rescued from a hoarding situation. The years of stress, neglect and starvation she experienced wrecked her nervous system. She couldn't be kenneled without total panic, would nervously guard the door when left free, she was kicked out of multiple day cares, attempted to attack a guest in our home when she felt scared (didn't actually hurt anyone!). She never relaxed, was always on guard, honestly I don't think any of us slept through the night for months. When I called the shelter for advice, they made me feel like an idiot and a monster for ever needing to leave my house. Said my dog couldn't be kenneled and I needed to leave her for free but when I left her free, she was dangerous at the door so basically - I was now trapped at home since she couldn't be boarded and I couldn't have a sitter come over to take care of her due to the guarding. I cannot recommend Cindy enough! From the very first session, it was clear that she has an incredible way with dogs. My dog, Roxy, and I went to her because of a word of mouth recommendation from our favorite Pet Store in LG, Los Gatos Pet People and I will never look back! There are not enough words in the world to describe how great Cindy and the Dog Help Now team are. We sent our 5 month old puppy to do Cindy's 30-day board and train program and he came back a whole new boy. I overestimated how much time it was going to take caring and training a new puppy while balancing a night shift hospital job so I needed a lot of help. Cindy took the time to listen to all my concerns and walked me over what our game plan would be during his stay. As a first time dog owner, Cindy has taught me so much and has helped me tremendously. Now when I bring Brodie around other dogs, I'm like man! He is SO WELL BEHAVED! I continue to be impressed with him every day since we've gotten him back. Brodie used to have a lot of accidents especially while meeting new people out of excitement, he would bite our fingers, he would excessively pull when we walked him on the leash, was shy around other dogs, etc. Brodie has now has not had one single accident since he's gotten back in the house or while meeting other people, he thinks twice before trying to bite our fingers, he walks besides us now during walks, he is a lot more calmer, and we actually learned over the month we left him with Cindy that he is a lot more bold and confident around other dogs. I should have posted a review a couple of months ago when I was working with Cindy, and there are not enough good things to say about her work. I have 2 dogs (corgi and basset hound - both rescues), and the corgi has been food aggressive and resource guarding for the entire time I've had him (since 9 weeks old). It had improved some with lots of work, but had recently gotten much worse when I lost my oldest dog (another basset hound). I was having a terrible time with him and my basset was bearing the brunt of it. All of my dogs go to puppy classes/intro obedience when I get them and he's a very quick learner. This was something I couldn't handle and was very quickly getting worse. I finally broke down and asked a couple of the rescue groups I know if they had a trainer they worked with. One of them pointed me to Cindy and I gave her a call. We spent a couple of hours talking about what was going on and I decided to have her come to my house for some private training so she could see the dynamic and hopefully find a way to help. It was the best decision I've ever made. She spent about 3 hours at my house and by the time she left there was already a vast improvement. It's not that she changed my corgi, but rather she understood what was going on, and gave me the tools to help both dogs with what they need. I was only able to do a couple of sessions with her because of other circumstances, and I intend to start them up again when I can. Those couple of sessions changed everything at my house. It's not magic - you have to put in the work with the dogs to get to where you all need to be, and it's an ongoing process. My dog is a 50 lb Standard Poodle. She and I have been clients of Cindy Gehring for two years. While still a puppy, my dog attended "boot camp", boarding with Cindy for a few weeks for intensive training. Since then we have met periodically with Cindy for individual and group training sessions. My dog and I have both learned a great deal from Cindy's training. I have owned dogs all my life, and this is by far the best behaved dog I have ever worked with, thanks entirely to Cindy's guidance. My dog is athletic, strong and fast. She could easily knock me or my friends over, could easily run away. But I don't worry about these things, because I know she won't. When she was still a puppy she loved to play, and would try to play with smaller dogs. At that time we had an older Chihuahua, who did NOT want to play with a big dog. The poodle was so persistent that I was afraid she might hurt our Chihuahua. Cindy, working with my poodle and a small dog of her own, was able to train the poodle to be very gentle with smaller dogs, and to accept a doggy "NO!" as an answer and stop trying to play with him. I regularly take the poodle to the dog park now where she plays with all sizes of dogs, and to this day she is gentle with the smaller dogs and lets them alone if they don't want to play with her. When the poodle was still small I had to pick her up to put her in the back seat of my pickup truck. When she reached her full size and weight, I was still picking her up and putting her in the back seat - I could not convince her to try to jump in, no matter what I tried. When Cindy realized that was happening, she worked with us. In only one training session, the dog was jumping into the back seat unassisted! All I need to do is point to the seat and say "Hup!" and the poodle jumps up into the seat. The point of these stories is that Cindy Gehring is an outstanding dog trainer. From dealing with real behavioral "problems" to guiding a juvenile dog in its growth to a trustworthy companion, Cindy excels. read more

Update: After 4+ months of working with Cindy, my appreciation for her only continues to grow. I've seen wild improvements in my 2 year old rescue, and truly couldn't have done this without Cindy! Posted August 2019: I'd say Cindy is the best, but that would be an understatement. She truly understands the psychology of why a dog behaves the way it does, and was able to assess my pup's behavior within minutes of meeting her. She clearly knows what she's doing and loves her job, and is patient, understanding, and clear with her instructions. Since I am a first-time dog owner, everything is completely new to me, so I cannot emphasize enough how much her patience was key to my experience. On top of being a total expert with my dog, she went above and beyond by also understanding ME and how having a new dog was affecting me psychologically. She helped me identify the anxiety I was giving myself with this new dog care and gave me the tools to understand the process and take things one day at a time. I am a volunteer for a dog rescue and consider myself pretty dog savvy. I have three of my own and always get comments on how well-behaved they are. I met Cindy and had many conversations about several dogs that were adopted out and the new owners were having difficulty. Cindy excels at "difficult" dogs. I had her come over and meet my crew. Wow. She determined my newest addition thinks she is dominant over the entire family. Cindy made corrections within minutes. Now....keep in mind that this can be difficult work. It may appear mean but it is discipline. Things have been different here at home ever since. I have not maintained the level that Cindy established but I know how to get those results if I need them. Cindy was extremely helpful and gave us the help we needed for our extremely shy fearful dog. We went to her when we had almost given up because our fearful rescue dog had not been socialized and I had no idea what he needed in terms of training to help him. We went to see Cindy and she immediately was able to pick up on the family dynamics and how each member of the family played a role in his actions. In just one session we were given the guidance and tools we needed to work with him so he was less fearful and we were consistent so he wasn't as confused. She has an HR background and is very in tune with humans which is very unusual for a dog trainer as most only know how to communicate with the animal (sounds funny but true). I met Cindy a few months back when I was fostering a 1 yr old pit bull with major social issues. We had run into each other at my store, and she had noticed me working with my dog. She met with my dog and gave a complimentary on the spot consultation about Henna's needs. I had made it clear that I was not able to afford private training since I was only fostering, but Cindy still wanted to help and offer advice and guidance as best she could. It was evident that Cindy is passionate about pets and their owners, and ultimately wants what is best. None of the dogs I've had over the span of about 30 years have ever been that well trained. They would jump on people, bark, destroy stuff, beg for food, etc. Mutts, pure breeds, males, females, puppies and adults all seemed to be crazy pets for me. I exercised them, took them to training classes, and generally did everything I was supposed to do. But I still love dogs. And now I have 3 little kids and I want them to love dogs, too. So we got a got a golden retriever puppy and the challenges began all over again. After the dog started biting their sleeves and dragging the screaming kids across the floor, I tried again to get a handle on the crazy canine behavior. I am a mother of 3 AND I am a teacher; why can't I train a dog? The classes, praise, and treat rewards just weren't working consistently. The dog was out of control and I could not trust him for a minute. Cindy showed me and my 3 kids and my 1 year old golden retriever how to live together in harmony. I have never had a dog who was so calm and obedient. The dog is not frustrated and the humans are not frustrated. Cindy knows how to train dogs. We hired Cindy initially after trying without much success with another trainer. We had five or six at-home sessions with Cindy to get our young, somewhat feral rescue pup, Cody to be more attentive and to be calmer on leash. Here's the deal: she is as good at understanding human behavior and how it affects our dogs as she is at understanding dogs. A huge part of successful training is understanding what you might be doing wrong and correcting yourself so that your dog responds optimally. Cindy is awesome at that! So, don't expect to be off the hook and have a wonderfully trained pooch without putting in a little of your own effort. Cody has made amazing strides, as much from her on-site lessons, but what she has trained me to do when she's not there. We have also boarded Cody with Cindy, and he loved it - he came home calmer and better behaved. We will not hesitate to board him with Cindy again - we'll know he's in extremely capable hands. Working with Cindy for almost two years, I would definitely have to say that it is easy to just have a dog as a pet but it is very hard to have a very well behaved dog. My definition of a well behaved dog is one who you can: listen to your commands despite the high distractions around, trust alone with infants, protect the family while still being able to play and be sociable with other dogs. I've learned that any dog is able to have all these traits; yet, I believe that as owners we often spoil their chances of reaching their full potentials. Whether it is due to our lack of understanding, inabilities as owners or simply not setting boundaries and spoiling our dogs, despite the initial good intentions and love, many of us ruin our dogs. I have been definitely guilty of all of this but have learned that with the right techniques, blood, sweat, tears and determination, your dog can definitely be corrected. Dog training is not easy but after all the hard work, it is definitely worth every bit. When you get a dog, you are supposed to do the research on the breed and know your abilities and experiences as a dog owner. Instead, I fell in love with the puppy eyes and ended up getting my dog on a very impulsive decision. Though some are lucky and find a dog that matches their lifestyle and capabilities, I definitely failed in this department and got a Belgium Mallinois & German Shepherd Dog Mix from a very prominent working line. Being a beginner dog owner and a full time software engineering college student, it was definitely not a very wise match. I have learned that with determination and perseverance in the right direction, even a college student can have a well behaved working dog. Through this intensive process, I not only was able to transform my dog to a dream dog but also transformed the way I view myself. Contrary to the common belief, dog training is more about training the owner and I would have to say that Cindy was very successful at this. I've definitely become much more patient and better at controlling my spikes of frustration and now laugh at my past mistakes not only in training but in also in life. Cindy truly cares about the owners and dogs and constantly pushes the dog and owner to achieve their best. I have a one year old yorkie who I thought was untrainable, disobendient, and after everything I did, he was still a rascal. Then I met Cindy, she is great I swear she is a dog whisperer haha. We did the board and train because we wanted to get him trained asap. Her coming over worked for a little but he eventually went back to his old ways so she recommended this. After the board and train, he came back a much more calmer and obedient dog. He listens and doesn't wander off anymore. Sometimes he gets distracted, but I immediately use her techniques and he listens right away. Cindy is had a good understanding of dogs and humans and how you interact with them. She worked with him AND us and trained us to work together and to communicate better. Before we met Cindy, Toby would bark maniacally and try to attack anything or anyone who came near us. I attended a seminar at Babies "R" Us in San Jose called Introducing your baby and your doggie and Cindy was the instructor. Cindy was awesome. She was very knowledgeable and provided some great tips on introducing your baby to your four legged family member that I hadn't even thought about! WOW! She was very funny too. She reminded me so much of Cesar Milan the Dog Whisperer in her method of training. There are so many parents who give up on their dogs when there is a problem however it doesn't have to be that way. We called Cindy for help with our Staffie who gets overly excited with people (she loves them to death) and gets overly excited when visiting new places. She can go from a 1 to 10 in seconds and such a high excited state can sometimes lead to trouble. I have always been a rescue dog owner. Rottweiler's to be exact. Due to the short life-span of the breed and after I lost my last Rottie, I decided to get a puppy. WOW. I forgot how much work puppies are. Rottweiler's are a strong-willed breed. They need lots of structure, socialization and a strong leader. I had never had any problems with my previous Rotties BUT they were all older when I adopted them. Once I brought the puppy in my life, I was in trouble. I allowed him so much freedom, that he had no respect for anyone or anything . He tore up everything in my home, including my hands and feet. Thanks to Cindy I now have a well-behaved, confident and loving Rottie. She found what motivated him to work, what challenged him mentally and more importantly she taught me how be the leader my dog looks to. My "puppy" is now 2-years-old. We still train with Cindy off and on. Not because he needs additional training but because he loves to learn new things...he loves a challenge and Cindy knows all the newest things to keep him on his toes. Cindy was, by far, the BEST dog trainer I've come across. She spent 4 hours with my two very unruly dogs (and toss in a psychotic neighbor screaming at us...good times) and she was calm, in control and while she knew it was so hard for me to see my dogs being treated firmly she kept me and them on track and as a result we saw improvement DAY ONE!!
