A year and eight months later (COVID-19 restrictions constantly changing), I finally got my first gel manicure done, woohoo!!! All thanks to Nancy of Cindy's Nails, yay! Cindy's Nails is located on Duarte Road in Monrovia, one block after Nano's Café. They are located right next to Adolph's Barber Shop and there's a Car Wash before Adolph's Barber Shop. Parking: Street parking or private lot. I got lucky and parked right in front. During lockdown, I either painted and/or cut my own nails. However, when it comes to nail shaping/filing and cuticle trimming, I leave that to the professionals. I finally plucked up the courage to get my nails done and after a 40 mins session with Nancy, I walked out there feeling like a new woman with freshly painted nails, yes! I recently cut my toenails, otherwise, I would have splurged on a French Tip pedicure as well, next time! COVID-19 Safety Procedures: Face masks are worn by both patrons and employees. Hand sanitizers are available and social distancing practiced. The manicure and pedicure stations have plexiglasses in between patrons and employees. Hand wipes are located at every station and nail materials are sanitized. The place itself is clean, quiet and relaxing. $26 Gel Manicure - OPI Gel Polish G842 - (I believe it's called An Affair in Red Square). Or my interpretation, "Dorothy's Red Ruby Slippers" - especially, when the light hits my nails just right - shimmery, bold red nails, yes!!! I may not always red lipstick, but I'm always down for red nails and/or toe nails! Working with Nancy was a pleasure! After a quick hello to each other, Nancy got down to business. She asked me if I would like my nails filed and what shape I wanted. I asked for filed and trimmed nails with a little round shape to them. I usually go for squared shape nails, but my nails grow fast, and the sides easily cut into my skin. We didn't talk much for the entire session, which was fine with me since I was enjoying the relaxation and quietness (I was the only patron in there at 10 a.m.). A little after 10:30 a.m., four other patrons arrived, and the two other employees started working on the first two ladies getting spa pedicures. The other two ladies getting manicures waited a bit. Not gonna lie, I got a little nervous thinking Nancy was going to rush. Thank goodness, she didn't. She was very meticulous and took her time. I got about three or four coats on my nails with curing them in between. Afterwards, Nancy wipe them off with the alcohol spray, followed by a coconut cream moisturizer, mini hand massage. She then put a hot towel over my hands for a few minutes before wiping my hands clean. Yay, loved how pretty my nails turned out and how soft and yummy smelling my hands and arms were, heheh! The two other ladies were also sweet and professional. Overall, I enjoyed my session here at Cindy's Nails and look forward to getting more future manicures and pedicures with them. Don't come unless you want your cuticles accidentally nipped twice... and after gel removal your nails are so bendy. Idk if it's bad technique or what. I'm pretty sure it's bad technique. Also as soon as a person walks through the door and is waiting the lady starts cutting your cuticle even faster and rushing. And you have to bring cash or else they charge you $1 or $2 more. My mom, sister and I have been coming to Cindy's Nails for several years now. They consistently offer attentive and good service which keeps us coming back. Pros: they accept appointments which is a huge plus and not only that but they actually honor their appointments. Every time we have made an appointment we have had no problem with getting our nails done in a timely fashion. The mani-pedi price is $24 which is a very competitive rate for the area (pedi alone is $16 and mani alone is $10). They give an amazing foot massage with the pedicure!! That alone is worth the $24. They also really take their time cleaning your nails and cuticles and have never rushed through our service. The chair massage is actually quite nice as well. Cons: they have a rather small collection of nail polish with limited colors and brands. Tips: if you are particular about your nail color/brand of polish then bring your own. I found this nail shop on yelp and immediately asked for an appointment same day, only a few hours prior. I was given a response promptly and was given options for times to come in same day. Great & quick customer service for appointments! Their prices are extremely fair, another great aspect. I came in and enjoyed a relaxing pedicure. I received a nice massage, I really liked how Nancy asked me what temperature I liked my water at for my feetsies. I did not wait at all and was helped right away. The pedicure was so relaxing, it ended too soon. My only complaint is that the paint job on my toes wasn't as neat as I would have liked. There is nail polish past my cuticles on half of my toes. I called around 3:45pm on Friday and they said they're available at 5:30pm. Came in at 5:30pm and didn't have to wait. Was done by 6:40ish. I think they were shocked when my bf walked in. They may have said in Vietnamese that they don't usually do men but did it this time bc I made an appointment over the phone and was already there. (They knew I was Vietnamese, but had this convo with each other) Forgot to confirm this when I left. But he's happy with his feetsies and they only took about 30 mins. I always like when they speak Vietnamese to me bc I don't get to speak it much unless my mom is visiting. Feels like home listening to them chit chat. They seem to know their clients here and weren't too chatty with me but friendly enough. Prices are decent for the area. $15 pedi $25 stiletto full set. They charge $1 for credit cards. Really great work, really good prices, and very friendly workers! This is my regular place (when I actually have time to get my nails done). If you make an appointment, you get in and get out in less than an hour for a gel manicure. They have massage chairs for pedicures. I love getting ME time here. Some places will try to rush in order to get as many people as they can in a day and that will leave you with a crappy nail job. The ladies here are NOT like that. I headed over and they said since I have gel on take off is $5. Wth that's literally what a "change" is changing the color. I go to leave and there are signs everywhere they accept card..what they don't have is a sign saying they will charge you $1 to use it . Not a fan of hidden charges..just tell me upfront.. also for those of u saying that other places charge take off yes some do but they say they will charge when I call them. I've been going here for my manicures and pedicures since they were on Foothill Blvd. I started coming here when I was in high school, so I venture to guess it's been about 7 years? Cindy is always so nice and remembers my name and always asks about my mom - who goes there occasionally. All the ladies know me. The veterans are Julie, Ann, and Ruby (my FAVORITE). Sometimes Cindy has new girls working there and I always prefer NOT to get them (I had a bad experience with one). I always call ahead to see if Ruby is available and always just get a manicure and pedicure. Sometimes I'll get a french, and it's only $3 extra. Where else can you get a GOOD mani and pedi for $20?? I called at 10 am and scheduled an appt for two for mani/pedi. I explained one would be for gel. They gave me a 1:30 time. My daughter and I arrived a few mins early. We were not seen however until 1:50. I explained that I wanted gel nails and was given the color wheel to make my selection. My daughter was not getting gel. They worked on our toes and then walked away. One woman began working on another client and the other woman began folding towels. I asked who would be doing our hands and they all looked at each other confused as though they did not realize that was part of our appointment. My daughter said she would be fine without getting a manicure, I however needed to have the gel nails done as I had specified on the phone call and when my toes were painted. One of the ladies said she would take me. She moved me from the tub chair to the regular chair and began removing my previous polish. This process was taking an extremely long time. I asked to have her just remove polish and buff and shine so we could leave. We left the shop around 3 30. Timing is everything. I will not be back. read more

Before I decided to go here, I called a few places and asked for prices, and this place was reasonably priced ($13 for pedi only, $20 for both mani and pedi combo) and most of the Yelp reviews were positive. The lady was very nice and very thorough. She tried to have a conversation with me (but I am a pretty introvert person). The place is small but clean and neat. It was cozy but a little bit warm inside (AC wasn't on but fan was running). The only downside is that they don't have a lot of options on nail polish, only 2 racks. So if you are picky, I suggest to bring your own nail polish :) I will definitely be returning and bringing my mom for her birthday treat! read more

I have been going to cindy's nails since middle school. For about a decade! And I ONLY go to Cindy to get my eyebrows & more recently I have been getting my lip waxed while I'm at it. I have had bad experiences with other salons who do not wax eyebrows right it shouldn't be that hard but many people get it wrong. Cindy always takes her time and I look forward to going because it is actually very relaxing. She makes sure to blow on the wax so it doesn't burn you and it has never been too warm for me. She is also very precise even when it feel like she has messed up I keep quiet because I know I am just being paranoid in the end they always come out perfect and even. She has excellent eyes it might help that she wears glasses and gets really close to your face, but I like that, do what ever you have got to do to make sure they are even ;) I have pretty normal kind of flat eyebrows and she doesn't try to get crazy and make them dramatic she cleans them up and keeps their natural shape which I love because I think your natural eyebrows flatter your face the best. I don't know how she does at reshaping them and I doubt I will ever ask her to although when I went in with my friend a couple days ago we asked cindy's advice and she told my friend to keep letting them grow back fully then come back. She is an honest woman she won't do it just for the quick cash before your eyebrows are ready. She also takes her time in tweezing and trimming and puts on a nice lotion after to soothe the skin you will want to wash your face after about an hour or two because it is a little oily. When in a couple days ago they were already closed and cleaning the salon, she knew I was there for a wax and happily took me in and did my waxing not rushing at all without any attitude just her normal self-I really appreciate that. I hate when people take you in but are mad at you for coming in so late I would rather come back another day if that's the case. She always remembers my face and name and always asks how my mom is doing, my mom is an extremely shy person but looks forward to going to cindys for her waxing too because Cindy is not one of many words but she is very nice and makes you feel very comfortable too. I'm not sure how much every thing is but its very inexpensive about $10 for eyebrows & lip together though. Also pedicures there are amazing! I love the spa chairs they have about $12 for pedi I think. I don't know because I always just hand over extra cash. Just bring your own nail polish because the selection isn't huge I don't mind because I like to have my own anyway for later touch-ups :) Any of the girls are good for mani pedi, ask for Cindy for waxing! And I have not got a full set in a while but Cindy does the best in the shop if I remember correctly but she is always busy call to make an appointment for that!
