After an afternoon of sightseeing (& sweating in the heat), we were very excited for a cold beverage on the rooftop. Cindy's has a large outdoor patio with standing room overlooking Millennium Park and the bean. Such a great location! The drinks were delicious & the service was great. We wished we had time to enjoy a second beverage but we will definitely be back!
I love Cindy's!! I think this was my third time here. It's probably one of my favorite rooftop bars in Chicago. The service is always good, the vibes are fun, and the rooftop view is one of the best. If you come in the summer, the rooftop has a bar so you don't have to keep going in and out, but you're allowed to take your drinks from the inside bar to the rooftop. It gets a bit crowded out there and there are no seats or places to set your drink down. I prefer coming in the early evening so I can enjoy the clear view of millennium park. At night you can't see as much. I also prefer coming here in the winter because it's a lot less crowded and you'll basically have the rooftop to yourself. They also have cozy fires on the rooftop during the winter. We came here recently for a late night snack and dessert and drinks. As my drink, I ordered the Cha-Cha-Chicago, which was kinda like a pina colada with blueberry and super refreshing! For food, we ordered burrata, carrots, and the macchiato noir. The kitchen closes at 10pm (two hours before the bar closes). We got there around 9:30 and were able to order food no problem. The burrata was delicious and refreshing! The carrots were also good. We asked if dessert ended at 10pm too and couldn't really get a clear answer from anyone, but we ordered around 9:55. Although the bartender forgot to put our order in after we asked him, we still got our dessert after 10pm. We ordered the Macchiato Noir and it was so delicious and tasted like salted caramel and coffee. Our bartender offered us complimentary sips of Amaro (probably as a way to apologize for forgetting to put in our dessert), but that was really nice of him. We took them outside to enjoy on the rooftop.
Incredible venue with great views of the city. Cocktail menu was especially great due to the adjective listing under each of their specials. Enjoyed the Emerald Mile along with the classic breakfast (gluten, dairy free). Server was great. Be prepared to be put on a waitlist (didn't take too long). This place is sought after due to its location.
First time in Chicago and I had to come to Cindy's due to the raving reviews and videos I've seen online! Let me say the view and restaurant were beautiful and the service was great. My three star review is for the lack luster food. After experiencing all the incredible food in Chicago I was disappointed with the quality and taste of the food at Cindy's. The shrimp in the shrimp and grits was overcooked, the monkey bread tasted stale, the chilaquiles were soggy, and the avocado toast was bland. If you're looking for an aesthetic place to take pictures and enjoy the view this place is great!! I wouldn't come back for the food. :)
Loved everything about our experience! The location is incredible- we had our lunch overlooking Millennium Park. We came here on a Friday for our 2pm reservation. We got seated outside. Our waiter was Ian, he was amazing at his job. He knew the menu extensively and describe everything well. He treated us like we were friends. The food was surprisingly delicious- we ordered the oysters, shrimp roll, and smash burgers! It was delicious. For dessert we tried the peach orchard- it was an interesting dessert, it had a lot going on. It was big, enough for two people, maybe three. It was an OK dessert, as soon as I ate I forgot about it. Overall, a great experience! I would love to come back for a girl's brunch or dinner!
I went here with my boyfriend and the atmosphere was incredible. Post-grad life has us balling on a budget, so we shared fries, mussels (SO tasty), and two cocktails. The environment is... bustling to say the least, but has an amazing, intimate feel with the right person. We were seated along a row of two-seat tables, which felt slightly awkward and cramped, but there was space to go outside, take pictures, and enjoy your beverage/the view from there! We had a reservation, but I saw a couple people come in without one and they seemed to have no problem entering in. To be safe, I'd definitely recommend making one.
I'll start off with the ambiance and that it's totally worth the visit just for the view alone! You take an elevator to the rooftop level of a tall building in downtown, and you get to experience a view of the lake, millennium park, and much more! You definitely want to come during a nice day and take pictures. The food was decent. I will say that I got the chilaquiles, and I was getting really tired of the flavor; it was a little salty when I got it, and the chips were so mushy at one point. The eggs benedict on the other hand was delicious! The English muffin paired so well with the ham and egg, and the potatoes were to die for! They were warm, crispy, and flavorful. The service was great; the waiter gave us recommendations and always made sure our waters were full. Additionally, he made sure to check in with us through the meal. I'd definitely recommend coming here as an experience, but I will say the price of the food is a pricey for what you get.
Cindy's Rooftop was a very enjoyable experience, and I can absolutely see why it's such a popular destination. The views of the Chicago skyline are breathtaking and definitely the highlight of the restaurant. The menu is somewhat limited, but the food was very good. We ordered the signature smashburger and the cod fish sandwich, both served with crispy fries, along with gin spritzers. Everything was well prepared, flavorful, and satisfying. Our server was attentive and friendly throughout the meal. The only disappointing part of our visit involved the host. Our server had turned our table so both of us could enjoy the skyline view through the window. Later, the host approached us and said we couldn't have the table positioned that way. We explained that our server had been the one who turned it for us, which was true. The host walked away and never returned to clarify the situation or let us know if it was acceptable after all. That interaction left us feeling confused. As a same-sex couple sitting close together, we couldn't help but wonder if that influenced the interaction, although we have no way of knowing. A brief explanation or follow-up from the host would have gone a long way toward making us feel more comfortable. Overall, the incredible views, good food, and attentive service made for a memorable visit. Despite the awkward interaction with the host, I would return for the atmosphere alone.
Always a beautiful atmosphere, friendly staff, and elevated experience. Cindy's is one of those places that is just a bucket list places for great food, unique cocktails, and stunning views! The prices are a little high, but you have to remember youre downtown! I do love that you can have a drink outside on the patio without reservations. Reservations open up 14 days in advance and they go quickly!
One thing I've learned turning almost 60... I'm traveling for the views, the food, and the memories--not to fight a crowd for a spot at the railing! (If you are young, dress up, enjoy the view, the music, the vibe (as one gentleman around 26 told me, so sweet), and the crowd. Cindy's, on the rooftop of the Chicago Athletic Association, is absolutely worth the visit. The sweeping views of Millennium Park and Lake Michigan are beautiful, and the food was every bit as impressive as the scenery. Since we're vegetarians, we enjoyed some delicious meat-free dishes, including crispy arancini, a rich and flavorful rigatoni, and a chocolate dessert (The Rocker, I will say the baked Alaska did look amazing), that disappeared much faster than I'd like to admit. We paired it all with two refreshing mocktails (N/A Spritz $16.00 a non-alcoholic hugo, aperol or pathfinder spritz; bitter - citrusy - crisp and a KEVIN!! $18 seedlip garden 108, strawberry puree, lime, elderflower soda). The best surprise? Our mocktails were complimentary because our room couldn't be upgraded, and our credit card package included a beverage credit. We also had a $100 hotel dining credit to use during our stay. It's a good reminder to investigate travel credit cards--they can add some nice perks, especially if you pay the balance off every month. My biggest tip: make a reservation. The wait can get pretty long. We were lucky and only waited a few minutes. Could you grab a drink and stand outside? Sure. But honestly... that's a younger person's game! I'll happily trade standing shoulder-to-shoulder in a crowd for a comfortable table, great service, and a view I can enjoy. Age has taught me that comfort is underrated. Our server was friendly, attentive, and somehow always seemed to appear at exactly the right moment without hovering. If you're visiting Chicago, put Cindy's on your list. Be patient if you're walking in, order something you've never tried before, enjoy one of their creative drinks (with or without alcohol), and take a few minutes to soak in one of the best rooftop views in the city. Sometimes the best souvenirs aren't things you buy--they're the meals, the laughs, and the places you'll still be talking about long after the trip is over.
The only thing worth coming here for is the view. Ordered oysters which were so so and tiny for $25 for 6 and the $22 beat salad my toddler could have opened the canned oranges and canned beets himself! Service was ok. Up charge for what food costs? Prices are already inflated !! Find another rooftop as Chicago has many to chose from! Would not go back. We had to go to another restaurant for real food afterwards. Sad,
All I can say is WOW! Last night in Chicago and what a perfect way to end it at Cindy's Rooftop. Make sure you get reservations ( 14 days before ). Can't miss it ! The views are incredible and make sure you come for nighttime views as well. We had the tuna tartare ( delish !) the strip steak was really great. The rigatoni vodka was in a special lemon whipped ricotta HEAVEN! Bread and herb app delish. I can't believe this mocktail !! Late night dinner and sips after the ghost gangster tour around Chicago! We picked Cindy's rooftop at the Chicago Athletic Association on the 13th floor for stunning skyline views which was the perfect spot to just unwind from the busy day. Though we couldn't see much of Lake Michigan, we knew it was just right there. We enjoyed the fresh Caesar salad, creamy Rigatoni alla Vodka, and warm bread with herbed butter. , and an espresso martini and a glass of prosecco. For dessert, we ordered the baked Alaska (So good), and coffees which ended the night with perfection. Service: Cheers to Anthony for the wonderful service and great menu suggestions!
Great spot hidden above the Athletic Club across from Millennium Park. It wasn't clear to us that Cindi's was upstairs but after poking around in the lobby we were directed to the third elevator "the gold one, top floor." Now this is a fun little place that even in Yelp, when searching it didn't like finding. But it was worth it. Immediately when stepping up to the bar, I see Colonel Taylor small batch Bourbon - one of my favorites. So, I ordered a Manhattan! There is just something about the two that go together and are meant to be! My wife was pleased with her Old Fashion until she tried mine - Ahhhhmazzzzzing. We sat at the bar for a bit and chatted with the crew getting recommendations of other places to go and collected quite the list. Chicago here we come! Looking forward to enjoying some of these little gems now on my list! After awhile and as the bar got busy, we stepped out onto the patio overlooking the park and it was stunning. Long wait? I recommend waiting because the views are amazing!! Definitely worth the hour wait. View of the city and port is pretty nice. The service was 5/5 worth it all. I've been to Chicago three times, so of course, I've been to Cindy's three times. It's an incredible place to eat, drink, and take in the views that downtown has to offer. During our last visit, we sat at the bar since we didn't make a reservation (make one!! We were on the first elevator up and still couldn't get a table haha). We loved our drinks and apps - it was just too expensive to order entrees. My suggestion would be getting a table in the main dining area (the high tops are my fav) so that weather doesn't matter. I also think the brunch menu is just the BEST. While it's still pricey, it's delicious and more filling than their other menus. Parking? Don't get your hopes up. There isn't any associated with Cindy's and they can't validate parking slips. We paid $37 to park for four hours down the street, and it definitely hurts the wallet. It's probably easiest to park further down the pedway or metro line and use public transit to make your way downtown. We just didn't have that kind of time the morning we were driving through. read more

You're paying for the view at Cindy's Rooftop. The drinks and the food are great, but truly the view is outstanding! Their menu is small. If anyone is picky, there is not the place to come. Tables are reserved only for food AND drink. If you just want a cocktail and a few hundred photos, this could be your place! It's busy. The bad part, everyone needs a drink so the bar area is congested and slow. The good news, EVERYONE wants a photo... some people are very polite offering to snap your pic... because they also want you to snap THEIR photo. It's a very Chicago/Midwest thing so go with it. read more
While I'm not saying Cindy's isn't nice, I think it would be a nicer establishment if they did not allow people to crowd around the bar and outside. It's unenjoyable to eat dinner at a place where you need to make a reservation a month out and patrons are standing by your table. Otherwise, I have no complaints on the atmosphere. I enjoyed the pork chop and the burrata. I would say do without the rigatoni. It's not bad, but it was the least worth it out of all the dishes we had. Go to one of Chicago's many Italian restaurants if you want pasta. A bonus surprise was that they gave us a glass of sparking rose for saying we were celebrating in our reservation. It wasn't good, but free is free! read more
My last stop before flying out of Chicago during Lolla weekend, I came here upon a recommendation of a friend grabbing drinks. Walking into the building, there was an attendant on the ground floor for the elevator that would take me up to Cindy's. When I got there, the open air, clear glass ceiling, and spacious interior caught my eye, along with the interior wooden decor. The tables were all reserved, so we got drinks at the bar. I choose a drink that my group also got, and took a sip. The drink itself was sweet and was decent for its price. We then headed out for the balcony. For me, the highlight of Cindy's Rooftop was the balcony, where I could see the Bean, Lake Michigan, and to the right, Lollapalooza. Definitely a must go if you're ever in Chicago, or perhaps need a happy hour drink! read more

The Potato Bisque was my favorite! We also ordered the Korean Fried Chicken sandwich and Fish Fry. We sat at the bar and our waiter was very kind and helpful. They have a nice view of Chicago as well but due to the rain it was extremely foggy. Would recommend. read more

We had to book a reservation much in advance as it was very difficult to get a spot at this rooftop. We realised once we went there as to why it is always booked. The views are stunning and breathtaking. The food was amazing as well and was presented beautifully. We had the oysters, salmon carpaccio, biscuits and gravy and stuffed french toast. The service was also good and friendly and the ambiance was very lively. We enjoyed our brunch and highly recommend visiting Cindy's rooftop especially if you are a tourist in Chicago. read more

Their spicy passion fruit margarita was my favorite. Our bartender kept them coming. We managed to walk in to the bar on a Friday night, but wished we had made reservations for indoor dining. The ambience was loud and busy, but wasn't too chaotic since the rooftop was open and spacious. Looking forward to my next time here already. Until next time, Chicago! read more
The ambiance at Cindy's is unmatched! It has amazing views from the rooftop and is a really nice place to come and chill at with friends. I love it because even if you don't have a reservation for food, you can come just for drinks and you usually don't have to wait for more than 20-30 minutes to get up. The drinks are a bit pricey, but I think you're paying more for the vibes and the views of the city than the actual drinks themselves, so it's worth it. It's a nice rooftop to come to last minute if you don't have plans to go anywhere else because you know you'll be able to get in! Great place for after work drinks on a sunny day. Some of the best views you'll have from a rooftop bar. Our group of 8 was able to grab drinks from the bar without needing a reservation despite coming after work on a beautiful day. I don't drink alcohol but they had three interesting mocktails. I had the Back Up Again with Seedlip. It was a nice and refreshing fruity bubbly drink. Everyone else appeared to enjoyed the alcoholic cocktails. read more

Came for the hype and the vibes. Both disappointed. Ambiance - 3/5 - Loaded with tourists. Great views of the bean. Service - 2/5 - Staff seemed tired or did not care. We were sat and not waited for a while. Unsure if they were understaffed but it did not seem like anyone wanted to help. We were unaware that they were not serving actual food until we were seated. The attendant failed to mention that they dont serve food from 2-5pm when we initially checked-in. Drinks - 2/5 - We got a mimosa and and the el segundo. Both were overly sweet and poorly made. We were not fans. My partner did not finish her drink. We left fairly quickly. It would be nicer in the future for staff to specify that they are not serving food initially especially if people do not look at their website ahead of time. Overall not the place for me. read more

Was so impressed by the view. Host was kind and accommodating. Got us a seat quickly but..it was a bar seat - tall with no back. Not super comfy for someone with back problems, but thought I could suck it up. Except no server came. We waited for about 40 mins and no one came. So, we left our spot, ordered a drink from the bar, and just looked at the views. Honestly the menu and food I saw at tables seemed very overpriced and not even worth it. And lots of the seating was awkward - like couches and a coffee table. So, this was probably my favorite view in Chicago. But just get a quick drink at the bar and skip the food. read more

My best friend and I went to Cindy's lunch to celebrate finishing grad school. Reservations were at 11am when we arrived we asked if we could sit outside. We had to wait about 15 minutes for the table so there could be enough servers to filled tables, but it was ABSOLUTELY worththe wait (even though the inside was so beautiful). We were able to sit at the bar and grab a drink. The old fashioned was amazing. A little on the sweeter end but so smooth. The view whilst eating was unbelievable. All the food was great. The oysters were definitely my favorite. Where the fish itself wasn't as break apart in your mouth as id have at other places, the pickled fennel and celery slaw, and eschabeche sides of the fish fry were mind blowing delicious!!! Apart from the amazing view and hearing the orchestra practice in the park when we were eating, the most amazing thing was the service. Any staff member whether they were there to clear the plates or ask to take your order would top off my water and ask how we were etc. The bill sat there with my cc for all of a minute when the gentleman clearing our dishes said he'd take it to Ryan, our waiter. Note: the terrace becomes a standing room at 5pm so if you want to eat outside with the view I'd recommend getting there earlier like we did. Otherwise you can enjoy the view with a drink after 5pm! read more
Cindy's is the bar on the roof of the Chicago Athletic Association: perhaps one of the *best* views in the Chicago. I definitely recommend stopping-in for a cocktail and (perhaps) to take a few photos for Instagram. The CAA is a landmark building loaded with history. While I understand you're paying for the view(s), the drink prices are such that you're not likely to linger. The same phenomenon applies to the food. The portions are generous and the food is good, but there's more compelling offerings to be had elsewhere in the city. So, go for the view & a drink or two-- then make way for the next group of people who are doing the same ;) read more
We had a lovely time at Cindy's as it was a beautiful day, had a table with a view and the drinks were excellent. I got Fernet About It (Ginger Lemon with Gin and Fernet) and my hubby got the Summer Night Walks (spicy margarita). I honestly wasn't expecting much from the food but the Orecchiette pesto with mushroom was delicious. The fish sandwich my hubby got was just okay (he wasn't expecting a fish burger) but the service was excellent and we were able to relax. This place is not a place to rush in, eat and rush out, there is a lot to enjoy here, particularly the views! read more

We came here based off the recommendation of a Chicago local. Since we didn't have a reservation, we made sure to get there right before opening time at 11 am. There was already a line to get in, but the two of us were able to sit at the bar right away :) The views here were definitely gorgeous and already made coming here worth it! I also loved the overall aesthetic inside. The food here was decent but nothing too special. We got the oysters on the half shell, striped bass crudo, and the fish fry. I think the fries that came with the fish fry were honestly my favorite, as they were crispy and seasoned well. TLDR: great views, okay food, good vibes read more

Wow - popular spot. It's a beautiful rooftop bar with nice views of Millenium Park and the Bean. There's a long line in the lobby so always be sure to make a reservations - you'll be able to go straight up. Staff is super friendly and the drinks were yummy. We were staying at Chicago athletic hotel so this was a must. Direct elevator to the restaurant without any lines or wait before 12:30 ish. It got crowded at end around 2. Lovely brunch place with nice view and ambience. Brunch menu is small with no egg options. The açaí bowl was delicious wi the fruity coconut flavor. The salmon looked great. The burger was good but not really a brunch vibe. Get the $75 Champaign and split with 4 (each mimosa is like $16 on its own) so it's worth. Create your own/DYI. At the end you can take nice pictures on balcony that overlooks the bean and get a little overview of Chicago. Worth going to for brunch. read more

This place is all about the view. Food, service, and price were not impressive. We ordered bloody mary, walk the earth, the burger, pancake and sausage on the side. The pancake was huge and fluffy, although I would prefer fresh berries as toppings. The portion of the pancakes is humongous: even the smaller version should be shareable. The burger was just so-so and doesn't live up to the price. Bloody mary lacks spice and texture, but walk the earth wasn't too bad. Our server was nice and made good suggestions; however, we did wonder where he was many times. It is likely that Cindy's is understaffed. The highlight of the meal is the view. The view from patio is fantastic, especially with the fall colors and nice weather. read more
Honestly we came for the great views, but was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was! The chicken was so juicy and flavorful and the gnocchi was so soft and fluffy. The staff was really friendly as well. Definitely have to plan ahead to book if you're visiting Chicago! We also got a couple cocktails but they weren't my favorite, a lot of them ran really tart and sweet so if that's your thing go for it! read more

The view of the bean is unmatched, the outside deck for a drink and some pics was perfection. The food on the other hand, less than stellar. The chicken and waffles were not good. Chicken was disgusting actually. The waffles were ok. Nothing to brag about. They did have fresh baked cookies that were yummy, but all the rest of the food I can't recommend. If you're coming for a drink and the view it's great. read more

Cindy's faces east so no sunset...it is a pretty view all day long. Patio may be more pleasant in the evening on a warm day...
Do they accept walking?
They do! But come early - even if you get there before they open and go up the first elevator, you might have to wait at the bar. I've walked in twice during opening and been seated within 15 minutes.
Good place for dinner conversation? Or, super loud and you need to yell to be heard?
It is loud in the dining room, you can talk to the person next to you but have to talk loud or yell to heard on the other side of the table.
Are kids allowed?
I'd imagine so, but after 8:30 PM / 9 PM it might not be a "fit"...

What time is happy hour?
There isn't a happy hour, per se, but they do have a 'limited menu' from like 2:00-4:00 (or maybe 2:30-4:00) and it is just a couple of items/shareables. Even without a sunset view, it is well worth an afternoon visit, the lake view is amazing!
Yelpers! What would you recommend for solo diners?
There's a bar / countertop where a lot of people sit and hang out. Looked like a ton of fun. I almost got up from my table to go sit at the bar.
You have to pay $65 to get in?
Honestly though you can easily spend $65 when you leave there.
Do you have to have a reservation for brunch?
Yes, unless the popularity has fallen way off. I made a reservation three months out last summer.
Do I need reservations OR a table to hang out on their patio? I'm wondering if I can just grab a drink and take in the view and then leave :-)
You can just go hang out, no need for reservation!.
