RL is a really fun experience. The food is fabulous, and the service was good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's upscale, so you definitely get the feeling of being pampered there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had a large group, and our server made sure we had fresh cocktails and wine often. We had a great time and would go again. Reservations are a must.

I had heard good things about RL, so when given the chance to have a business lunch here, I was happy to attend. Checking in we were given a table in the main dining room and seated way before this place got completely packed, about 20 minutes later. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining room reminded me of an upscale RL store, with wood walls, bookcases, and similar upscale library style décor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was great... helpful, very professional, and friendly. The menu was filled with many great options and just when I thought I selected what I wanted, our server told us about their specials, which included a sea bass sandwich, so I went for that instead! We started with their pigs in a blanket - They were GOOD!! The mustard that accompanied them really added a nice touch to the flavor and the dough they were wrapped in was flaky and tasty. Next up was a bowl of their tomato bisque, again - RALLY GOOD!! The goat cheese in it added a nice, sharp flavor for each bite. The sea bass sandwich was excellent too! The jalapeño on it added a nice spice and the fish was so very soft, flaky, and flavorful! The bun was incredible too... Overall, a great sandwich! I look forward to returning... Highly recommend making a reservation and joining them!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Perfect cozy winter spot. We were seated in the main dining room in the beautiful booths.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the RL burger, mini Reuben's and lobster roll. Everything was good - the Reuben's were a fun touch on the menu and perfect for sharing. I did order a glass of wine and I swear it was champagne, but I was able to send it back. Overall it was quite pricey for what we ordered. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But we came more for the vibes anyways.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

If you are lucky enough to grab a spot un the bar, definitely do! The wait staff is amazing, the drinks are divine and the food is delicious. I highly recommend getting a martini and the RL burger and [[HIGHLIGHT]]enjoy the dimly lit atmosphere of the bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you happen to get the corner seat, you can do some fun people watching of shoppers in the retail store.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

RL was a fun experience! Our service was excellent and the food was tasty. We enjoyed our drinks as well, but they weren't really unique or special. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The downside of this spot is that it is truly the most crowded restaurant I have ever been to. It was claustrophobic and we were literally on top of all of the tables around us.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Because of that, we won't be back! If you don't like being super close to others while dining, make sure you avoid this spot.

Review is for the bar. Came here for a pre-dinner cocktail with my cousins visiting from Italy. Can you get more American than Ralph Lauren?! Had not been here in years. And I mean many years! Never just sat at the bar so I did not remember the bar being so small but three of us got a seat right away. The turnover was fast. The bartenders were amazingly attentive and one even spoke Italian. Highly recommend!

Cozy spot with an upscale forwardness to it that's the vibe at RL. It feels classic Chicago, polished but not pretentious. If you have reservations, you're in luck. You'll glide right in and get seated. Us? We like to wing it. And I mean truly wing it. My advice get there early and snag a seat at the bar. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a tight space, but honestly, the magic is in the bar. That's where the energy is.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We went for brunch and split the recommended burger and fries (solid choice), plus a half dozen East Coast and West Coast oysters. Paired it with a glass of wine and it just worked. Simple, well-executed, and exactly what we were in the mood for. Be prepared this place fills up fast. Either plan ahead or have a backup plan if you're walking in. The wait staff was friendly, drinks were good, and the overall experience felt worth the effort. We'll definitely be back. Just maybe with a few friends to explore this gem.

Not in all my life have I ever seen shrimp that big in a shrimp cocktail. Seriously--you could make a meal out of just that, and honestly, I probably should have. But I have no chill and kept ordering... and ordering. I followed it up with the crab salad, which was absolutely delectable--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. And then, because I clearly have no self-control, I went for the chocolate layer cake. It was so good and came with a soft, dreamy dollop of cream on the side. I should've just stopped there and called it a perfect lunch. The service was top-notch--attentive at every turn. I think they liked my husband more than me, but I'll let that slide. They don't have sweet tea, but I made it work with iced tea and sugar packets (Southern problems, I know). The decor is a dream--classic, cozy, and full of charm. It's the kind of place that feels like a little escape from the city bustle. Just know that if you don't make a reservation, you'll probably be waiting... unless you know some secret trick I don't. The only downside? The bill. Especially for lunch, it stung a bit. But hey, for a splurge-worthy experience, it was worth it.

While in town, stopped here for lunch on a Friday. Made reservations for 2:15 and checked in about 5 after 2. Simply put - this place is an ant hill, folks crawling over each other, each believe they are more important than the last one. Atmosphere is very plush which dark wood, framed photos on the walls, etc. We were finally sat and made a drink order. I went with an old-fashioned which was good. They added table bread for us, and I went with a lobster bisque. They serve it in front of you with lobster meat in the bottom, and pour the soup over top it. Good flavor. I went with a burger for my meal - and as I write this I think I ate more burgers this trip than I have all last year combined. Anyway. Good flavor, bacon was a nice touch and cooked properly to temp. I added the chocolate cake as a dessert which was rich. Would love to come back here for dinner - but for now, good to come for lunch which in the city.

Had the chance to dine here on a recent visit to Chicago. I've had the opportunity to dine at the NYC polo bar as well so will provide comparison. RL restaurant in chicago was a relatively easy reservation compared to nyc. Similar atmosphere/decor. It is nice that you can walk in and sit at the bar in chicago (not the case in New York). The menu is fairly similar, small differences in items between the 2 locations. The service is phenomenal but the NYC staff is just a bit better. The vesper martini was delicious. We shared escargot and lobster rolls to start which were delicious. The RL burger did not disappoint and I would argue was better than the NY equivalent. For dessert had the NY cheesecake which came with blueberries and it was amazing. Highly recommend. Would go back.

RL Restaurant, nestled just off Michigan Avenue in Chicago, has been a cherished staple since its opening in 1999. It has a cigar bar library vibe, adorned with dark wood, paneled walls, and classic oil paintings, reflecting the timeless elegance of the Ralph Lauren brand. The seafood selection is particularly noteworthy. For those like me who appreciate a well-crafted cocktail, RL's old-fashioned is great. I pair that with fresh oysters. Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, RL Restaurant is a very solid choice. Bar is first come first serve but if you want to dine in the dining room, get a res.

$400+ dinner for two, including drinks. Nothing special,…read morelike we hoped. Pretty much standard steakhouse fare ... maybe a little less tasty than some of the other top-ranked steakhouses I've been to. I'd put it on par with Smith & Wollensky or Capital Grille, which is to say better than average and overpriced. To start off, the wicked stepsister hosts, who look about 20 years old, at the front seem to take joy in making you wait, even if you have a reservation and laugh in your face when you ask to sit in a certain area. There is nothing cool about dealing with a 20 year old on a power trip when paying almost half a grand for dinner for two. The real hero of this establishment should be their lighting designer ... I would venture to say that the dimly-lit yet perfect feeling vibe of the restaurant is what sets it apart. If not for the design of the restaurant, it would be just another steakhouse. The waiters are as pretentious as the hostesses. You know you you walk into a Restoration Hardware store and someone making minimum wage gives you, 'mansion attitude'? That's everyone we encountered at Bacette's ... insufferable snobs. We started out with cocktails, which were well made. Nowhere were the prices but expect a cocktail to set you back $25. The steaks are around $80 - $120. We both had the bone-in filet mignon, which was $89 at the time of the review. I guess it's supposedly a rare cut of meat ... although when I asked our butcher about it being rare, he chuckled and said, 'whatever sells steaks, I guess'. The filet was good ... again, nothing amazing ... on par with a chain like Capital Grille. I ordered mine medium rare and it came medium and a bit under seasoned. Each steak comes with a side of Bearnaise sauce, which honestly was the best part of the meal. Rarely would I consider ruining a $89 steak by dipping it in sauce ... but it kind of needed the extra kick. We got asparagus and the truffle Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was better than the steak, however, we were expecting the normal overflowing sides, which are usually too much for two people to finish. The Mac and cheese was pretty small and we felt like it was more like a single side ... especially given that the filet (minus the bone) was probably around 8 ounces. Asparagus was just your average asparagus. We had the chocolate pie and ice cream for dessert. The chocolate cake was almost like an entire slice of cake frosting with a scoop of dense whipped cream on top. Way too sweet and we barely ate half amongst the both of us. The ice cream was nothing special. We didn't realize you could not have a reservation and sit at the bar. Honestly, we were placed downstairs at a table ... and felt like we were sitting in a basement. It was not as nice as the upper restaurant and they refused to move us when we asked them if we could sit upstairs in the better part. She gleefully said it would be a two hour wait to change tables. If we knew we could have just snagged an empty bar seat upstairs, we'd have done that because it's better than the basement. Although, we saw some near arguments as people rushed in to get a bar stool in front of people who were waiting a long time. And, it's a little awkward to eat with vultures standing behind you waiting to jump into your seat, I'd imagine. So maybe make sure that you request to be seated upstairs and see if the mean girls hostess will accommodate the request. Overall, Chicago has so many good steakhouses, the fact that this one ranked so highly mystifies me. I've been to several better than this which were not even ranked. The atmosphere is cool ... everything else is average ... except for the attitudes which are below average.

Long Review: Met a friend for dinner while in Chicago and he said Gibson's was a must. We went on a Thursday night and the place was absolutely packed. Very vibrant and really friendly people all around. Piano bar vibes with the live playing at your request. Bartenders are attentive and try to get to everyone quickly. Just to give you a sense of how friendly this place is, I accidentally knocked over my glass of wine while reaching for the bill. Caught it though...phew. But not before I spilled it all over the back of the woman sitting next to me, the man to the right of me, and of course all over myself! Within two seconds, a waitress came over with napkins to help clean up the mess, the guy sitting next to me got on the floor and wiped it all up, and the woman whom I spilled the drink all over was like "Don't even worry about! At least you caught the wine glass!" Wow! I was stunned at how cool everyone was, and it set the tone for the evening. We finally got our table and split the Gipson's ribeye, lobster, sweet potato and brussel sprouts. Seriously one of the best steakhouse meals I've ever had. The negative: for a restaurant where you going to spend over $100 a person, we had to ask twice for water refills, in fact one time we asked the manager and he had to track down our servers. The seating is just ok, it's pretty loud as your on top of each other really. The steak was above average but not great. They seems to char the outside see pictures and it was fairly bland, got the filet. Salad was drowned with dressing and had virtually nothing other than 2 average cheap grape tomatoes. The sides were just ok. I wanted to be blown away as Chicago is "known" for their steaks, the waiter even said they had their own rating. Meh... Everyone was absolutely fantastic. We could have been served 7-11 sushi at this point and I still would have left 5 stars. Food time. The kimchi pork dumplings were an absolute flavor bomb and that parmesan broth gave the dumplings a little extra kick that took it to the next level. Plus, I love when the dumpling wrapper has a little chew to it and isn't this soft mush that dissolves in your mouth. The beef fat frites were a nice treat as well. They were not extra or over the top in anyway. But you can tell when something is done well and correctly, just like these fries were. The Premium Steakhouse Set, in my opinion, is all two people need to enjoy this very special experience. All the accompanying condiments were exceptional on their own and could have functioned as their own course. The Japchae glass noodles were a stunner. The real sleeper was the chopped lettuce greens tossed in their chili vinaigrette. Could have eaten 20 bowls of those lettuce greens. Sadly, I forgot the name of our server who cooked and cut our meat for us. She really added to the experience. She expertly prepared our food while maintaining a fun and pleasant conversation with us. The meat itself, my goodness, tender, smoky, quality-forward, and perfect served with the condiments. What a spectacular meal and overall experience.

Finally decided to give Perilla a try (not a fan of Asian-fusion type food usually) and it was…read morebetter than expected! We went during happy hour, selection of food and drink items were good and the price is right too! We ordered a bunch stuff to try: * Raw oysters - good, nothing to rave about * Argentinian shrimp - the shrimp were small and looked kinda depressing, flavor was decent though * Bossam - this was probably the lowlight for me, traditional bossam is pork belly, it is just not the same without the fat, pork collar does not cut it! * Short rib skewer- flavorful, cooked just right, delicious * Garlic chive pancake - this was my favorite, full of scallions, nice crunch on the sides and soft in the middle * Chilled soda noodle and kimchi - not traditional cold noodles, but it was tasty * Crudo - it was a TINY piece, certainly not worth the price even though it tasted fine, this was not a happy menu item * Basque cheesecake - wanted the Perilla sundae but was sold out, so settled for the cheesecake, it was just fine Staff were all very friendly and helpful. It was a nice experience overall. For happy hour, I would come back!
