Cinema Cafe is a great experience. This particular location has slightly smaller theaters, so it really feels like you're watching a movie at home rather than pressed tight together against a ton of people. Every chair is a recliner, each has a tray to put your food on and everyone has a drink holder. No fighting with your neighbor over which one is yours. We saw the second Dune movie on a Saturday afternoon. It was a full house and we went with seven of us. It was a great viewing experience and the food went over well too. Here's what we had and what we recommend. Recommend: Hawaiian pizza, meat lovers pizza, veggie burger, butterbeer Not so hot: margarita pizza, popcorn Four of us got pizzas. Cheese pizza was what you'd expect and was pretty good. Meat lovers Pizza was the best of the bunch with plenty of toppings. This wasn't one of the skimpy topping situations. The Hawaiian pizza was the second best and well-loved. By the way they're Hawaiian pizza is ham and pineapple but also chicken. Nice! The Margarita pizza wasn't so great. It was nice and hot but really there wasn't much basil so you may as well just gotten a tomato pizza. We had a vegetarian burger which was a nice change out option. My nephew really liked it and devoured the thing so fast that I hardly even saw it. He's a teenager, so go figure, but he talked about it afterward on his own and appreciated it. Finally, we had a pair of chicken sandwiches. Both has juicy meat that was not dried out, and the bun was fresh. Another case where they were eaten quickly. Last but not least, my wife got a butter beer. She said that this was the best one that she has found around. Mind you butter beer was a big deal because of Harry Potter so a lot of places don't have it anymore but she's had these in five or six places so I was happy to hear that this was the best of lot. read more

Luxurious and small theater. Seats are extremely comfortable. They recline and have a tray table. They are on the more narrow side so if you are in need of a larger recliner probably not for you. My husband is 6'2" and 200# and he fit comfortably. The menu is underneath the little table in case you need it. There's call buttons for waiters on the left side near the feet. You can order food and alcohol. We got two drinks and a dessert. Definitely gonna be coming back. Great waiters and waitresses. Clean facility. Very nice location. read more

I am very displeased with my time at this theater. The screen didn't work and delayed our viewing. We order the the multiplex appetizer sampler and got it "megaplex" which means you get boneless wings and onion rings. We literally got 4 boneless wings and 3 tiny onion rings. So coming into this I had pretty low expectations. I really thought I was just going to a middle of the road theater with cafeteria food. I was pretty wrong about that. The seats were super comfortable that had power reclining features. The food is no where near a what you would find in a high end restaurant but it's certainly something you would find in a good local diner. I want to say I haven't been to see a new released movie in over a year. Shocking, I know. But we're in town visiting family, and the opportunity presented itself. Who can pass on free reliable babysitters? Diapers are expensive, so when I heard I could see a new movie for $4.99, I took that offer up immediately. We did show up about 45 minutes early as we wanted decent seating. If you aren't there early enough, seating can get challenging and if you're ordering food, the small island tables aren't fun. They don't pressure you to get food, as you'll hit a red light to call your server. My husband and I easily shared a buffalo chicken sandwich and some cheese fries. The food is actually really tasty, and for some reason we seem to always order the buffalo chicken. If you aren't into sharing, the amount of food you receive is a good portion size for one person, but we're watching our girlish figures and Christmas spending is right around the corner. While you don't get reclining seats, the chairs aren't terrible and price you pay is just as comfortable, if not better. read more

Nice location in Va Beach. Prices for tickets are lower than other theaters & there is a good selection of food. Unfortunately on my second visit, the server wasn't pleasant AND the food was cold. I ordered chicken strips with fries. The wait time for food was long, and we were actually one of the first ones in there to order. She didn't seem to want to be there. Maybe she was tired because the movie started around 10 pm. I'm being nice by giving them a 3 star because my first visit was nothing like my last. I'd give them another try for sure. read more

Wow! Wow! Wow! What a pleasant surprise to come in and see upgrades! This location has recliner chairs. No need to drive to a new location to enjoy this perk. Came here for a birthday party. The option was to rent a full theater for $99. Seems like a great option for a birthday venue. Food was hot and fresh. Great service. Clean facilities. Despite the current pandemic, I felt very safe coming here. I'll definitely be frequenting the movies more often. read more

I love going to the movies, and this particular location is good. Cinema Cafe Kemps River has the latest movies and offers military discounts. The main issue that I have with this location is the seating. Seating is mainly computer chairs and they're four to a table. Once you get past the seating it's an overall good theater. I believe that they should upgrade to the reclining seats that Cinema Cafe Edinburgh has. On a positive note, the food has always been great. I mainly have their chicken tenders and they're so worth it. If you're in the neighborhood this is a definite matinée movie spot. read more

Great place to bring the kids for a movie. If it is a new release, I highly recommend arriving an hour early! Seriously. Unless one doesn't mind having last choice in seats. Fav menu items: French Fries, Chicken Wings (Asian Zing), Children's menu Chicken Tenders, and a little special request I ask for...a Greek Salad w/ Gyro meat and tzatziki. Dressing on the side. Ohhhh soooo good! My Fav!!! Pic included! Service seems consistent. Love this spot! Two of my favorite things all in one?! Sure!!! What I love about Cinema Cafe: - Food you can enjoy while watching a flick! - Large, comfy chairs that roll! Watch out, it could make you fall asleep! - The red button you press when you need assistance! What I don't love about Cinema Cafe: - Inability to purchase tickets online. - Coming in late and having to share a table w/ strangers when it's a full house. Kinda awks. - Sometimes they forget to bring you your food. Sometimes. - During popular premiers and peak times, expect a cluster-fudge to happen at the front of the theater as there's no space for crowds and long lines with the tiny ticket booth right there. I come here when I'm hungry and it's time to watch a movie. The menu consists of pretty much anything for anyone. The pizza is okay, but I suggest you request it "well baked" as we've received it still kinda cold and half baked (aka yuck). When you can't decide on what to have, I suggest the Megaplex Sampler with the option of making it deluxe when you add chicken tenders and onion rings. And the popcorn? Pretty good!!! This is one of the Cinema Cafe locations that shows first-run movies at an affordable price. We've come in on several occasions, but I am partial to mid-week movies. I hate fighting crowds! They offer a discount on Wednesdays. It was $3.99 for an evening movie ticket. Can't beat that! They have a bar area that we have taken advantage of before the movie. Decent, local beer choices and friendly service. The food, while not restaurant quality, is decent. I ordered a grilled chicken salad. The veggies were fresh, but it was loaded with toppings. That's not my preference, but I'm sure others would love that. We also ordered a pizza - tasty but heavy on the cheese. We got a pitcher of soda, which was 75% ice. You may want to ask for them to go easy on the ice, or you'll end up paying a lot for a little. Popcorn was a bit stale. Theater space is CRAMPED, so I recommend getting to the theater early, or you will end up crawling over people & tables to get a seat. Overall, a good space to catch a flick while enjoying dinner and a drink. read more

Went to an early showing with my nieces. We had the theater to ourselves. We ordered our food during the previews but did not receive it till mid way through the movie. The food was cold and tasteless. We pushed the button for refills but no one came. When I took my niece to the bathroom I saw staff members standing around on their phones. The bathroom was dirty. On the way back to the theater staff members were still standing around doing nothing. We were the only ones in the theater and they never checked on us. I would not recommend this location. read more

I booked my ticket the day prior, blocked off work, and took an Uber so I could enjoy a couple beers during the film. Showed up 30 minutes before showtime, sat down for a moment, then realized I had time for a beer at the bar. As I got up, a large family filtered into the aisle, and I overhead them say "oh we don't have seat X (my seat, with a great view)". When I returned, there was a child in my seat with a recently purchased printed ticket. Apparently the family complained that their extra family member couldn't be seated, and someone in management swapped me to one of the last remaining seats, which was up against a wall. The Commodore Theater and Beach Cinema Alehouse are better, and cleaner options. Recommend that you go there if you're buying tickets ahead of time. read more

This theater is a more lowcost option (esp before 6p) to see more pronounced recent movies then the "about to go on dvd" with the classic CinCafe theaters. It's a bit of an upgrade to the food, order the chicken tenders and get the Asian zing sauce. The bathroom was a bit in need of a cleanup and our server was quite polite. I did like that they did show movie tailers whereas the older ones don't. You can also use your belly card to check in. read more

Each time we have come here it has been a pleasant experience. There isn't much to say other than this is the way to go if you want dinner and a movie. My seat didn't recline, a malfunction that should of been checked before hand. To make up for it I was given a couple free tickets, something that comes in the mail every week anyway. I was less than impressed with my visit here, especially having the newer Edinburg Cinema Cafe to compare to. A group of us went for a movie and sat at the counter. There were at least two more chairs in the row than there should've been, so there wasn't much room to get into and out of the seats. Our server was super polite, but very slow. It took way too long to receive our orders, including a mishap where our friend didn't get her dessert until after the movie was over and we were the last ones left in the theater! She got a refund, but it was disappointing. My potato skins were served with sour cream instead of ranch as advertised, but I was able to get some after a while. The pretzels and cheese were good but nothing spectacular. I did like that they had local craft beer. I wish the seating had been more comfortable and the service quicker. This will remain my last-resort movie theater. read more

Well I have been here many times over the years and I just noticed I have never done a review. So in my honest opinion if you are going to a movie I do not understand why you would go anywhere other than here. The ticket prices are reasonable in comparison to the other theaters in the area. Match that with the fact you can get an ok sandwich with popcorn and a soda for 2 for the same price as popcorn and soda at other places and you have a winner it seems to me. Now this location is starting to show its age and could use an overhaul and I hope they get to it in the near future, but still the prices make it worth attending. Plus if you want a beer or mixed drink while you watch your movie this is the place to get it. If you come expecting great food you will be disappointed, but if you come here just expecting average Applebee's or TGI Fridays with a movie you will be more than happy with your choice. read more

Conveniently located for sure which is why we frequent this location. The food is pretty decent and the bathrooms always appear to be clean. However, we cannot get over the smell. It seems like every time we go it smells like dirty mop water. Almost as if they clean with the same disgusting mop every single time. Sometimes the smell is less potent and other times we just want to run through the lobby area and into the theatre so we don't have to bare that smell. We like to go to the location in the Pembroke area just to avoid the smell, but they get sold out quickly. Honestly if it wasn't for the smell we would love this location. They are undergoing renovations and not sure if that is only limited to the outside but I hope that if the inside is getting renovated that the smell can go as well! read more

Went to see Sing 2 with my family to include my 2 yr old daughter, service and food was awesome as usual. The horrible part that ruined our night and to be honest our Christmas traditon was walking out of the theater (around 7:50pm) after the movie and hearing an employee yell loudly in the kitchen that "he can run fuc**** circles around them". This same person I had previously seen at the bar in the lobby. Probably an employee off the clock. The worst part was that nobody applogized or seemed concerned. This will definitely make me think again before I bring my family around Cinema Cafe again. read more

Fairly decent movie theater, but the tables are small like an old school class setting. Then, the seats are extremely loud so if you're a person who likes to recline the chair then sit up, you'd definitely be bothering other people in the theater during the movie. And lastly there's not much difference in seat heights so if your short it's hard to see above the heads of those placed in front of you. This is a nice little spot to catch a movie. I'm from Maryland where almost every theater has a recliner seat, my family lives in VA Beach, and most of their theaters don't have recliners. We typically will drive to Hampton when we want to recline, however this night we didn't feel like driving that far. These seats kinda remind me of comfy office chairs. This place doesn't get enough love. The food is good, the staff are attentive, and the movies are a good price. Sure, you will probably drop $40+ for a movie with your date but it would be the same as a regular fancy dinner. So why not just do Dinner and a Movie all at once and save the drive? The floor lighting can be a pain at times and the same for the low lighting but you need to see your food. Jump scares are fun but not when you have food, or a fork, coming at your face! This is the theater I always come to. You can reserve your tickets ahead of time online and pick your preferred seating. The chairs recline, although noisily, and they have trays attached to each chair. Underneath the trays is a sticky slot for a menu, but when I came in yesterday they were using qr codes instead. I ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich and fries with cheese added. The sandwich tasted like it had been in the back of the freezer for quite some time. The fries with cheese are always a win. My husband orders the chicken ranch pizza every time we visit and he's liked it the majority of the time he's gotten it. My kid always gets the chicken tenders and fries, but yesterday she branched out and tried the honey BBQ wings, which she loved! read more

Surprisingly yummy! I got my husband to go to a RomCom ("Isn't it Romantic?") yesterday by promising him pizza. Price was reasonable....like $5 in morning and $5.95 for senior matinee. We had comfy chairs with a bar in front of us, and great service by Andre. We were very impressed by the combo which was about $24...included a large cheese pizza with one topping and big thing of popcorn and pitcher of soda. The popcorn with butter was really good and the pizza was fabulous, with lots of cheese! Pepsi products but I was happy that they have DIET Dr Pepper, which is hard to find around here. Good screen and sound! Had a fun afternoon and was over impressed with the food! You have to get there 45 min early, stand in a line until 30 min early, and then get let in. No reserved seats. Cinema Cafe was my first introduction to dining while watching a movie when I moved to VA. We would come here all the time, the food is your typical food, nothing super fancy. I used to order a chicken gyro off-menu and now it's on the menu. My other favorite is the Broccoli bites, warm fried gooey cheesy bites served with honey mustard. On Wednesday, they host "Wacky Wednesdays" you can get into *most* movies for $3, and they run specials on popcorn buckets for $3 and various other items I can't seem to remember at the time. read more

The Cinema Cafe is the way to go! Kemps River is my favorite of the Cinema Cafe's. It's larger and they play more current flicks than some of the other Cinema Cafe theaters. The charm of the Cinema Cafe is that you can eat, drink and enjoy a movie all in one place. For what you would pay for movie tickets at a normal theater, you can get your movie ticket, popcorn and a beer here. And the food is good. Not exquisite, but better than you would expect at a movie theater. I love the pizza/popcorn special, the ultimate junk food movie night indulgence. read more
