This is an old theatre. It's got old theatre 'charm.' That means ridiculously uncomfortable seats (many of which are broken) and lots of heads blocking your view. But it also means reasonably priced concessions with delicious popcorn that has real butter, lots of beers and ciders on tap, and a cool vibe you just won't get at the big places. I like this place. Come on in and enjoy first/second run films, get some booze on tap, a giant bag of popcorn, and have a good time. Kids allowed at all hours (dammit) and your ass will feel just like it would have if you saw a flick in 1914.

    Time for some Leo

This place is sweet, cheap, and old. If you get it, you get it. If you want a huge recliner and a $12 soda, probably not for you.

It's expensive but you're paying for the experience and I'd say it's worth it once in a while. I saw 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple here, kind of a weird choice for a movie theatre where you eat dinner- it was pretty gnarly. The good: -couches/comfy seating -actual food -friendly staff -neat atmosphere The less good but not necessarily bad: -having to wait to be brought to the theatre by a host -much more expensive than a regular movie theatre -no cherry coke (but they do offer a Roy Rodgers) -the popcorn is REALLY buttery which is cool if you're into that but I was overwhelmed by the sogginess

One thing that is neither positive nor negative is the sound in the theater, while it is very clear it is also extremely loud. I am not typically someone with sensitive hearing but if you are on either far side of the theater please prep like you're going to be right in front of speakers at a large concert (I have started to bring ear buds with noise cancelling due to the ear/head pain from sitting nearer to the walls). The positives: great film quality, comfortable seating, easy to purchase tickets. The cons: pricey menu that I have yet to feel is worth the price poin for the quality of food you recieve (also specials are rushed through before sitting), cleanliness of seating has been 50/50, parking availability can be difficult, each time we have gone food timing feels disruptive to the film. The last film we saw (Scream 7) food was still being delivered to people with 20 minutes left of the film.

Stoned or just unclear about his customer-facing job description? Who knows. Anyhoo, Decent menu, with burgers, salads, sandos and pizzas (small). You have to order away from the bar, weirdly, then pick up and bring your food into the theatre. Unwieldy. It's a bit spendy for what you get food-wise, though that seems to be the case everywhere these days. I like this place but haven't been in years so am happy to reconnect. Comfy seating in the theatre but screens are a bit dated. I will say the sound was pretty good. A decent movie-going experience with good enough food and drinks. Parking can be a bitch in this neighborhood though, with the new rules.

The bartender who took our order didn't write it down as he was taking it, which always makes me wonder if they will remember it correctly. He didn't. Carelessness. The bartender asked us which auditorium and our seat number and we were told that it would be delivered to our seats. Still no food an hour and 15 minutes into the movie so my partner went to check on it. He was told that they couldn't find us, which makes no sense unless the bartender entered the seats wrong. The cost was refunded but no dinner for us. Other than that the auditorium and seats are pretty nice but not better than any other theater. I doubt that I'll go back.

It used to be the Swedish Evangelical Mission Covenant Church. There's some cool millwork, antique light fixtures, and large curved staircases, but overall this is on the tamer side for McMenamins properties. The venue had standing room and high-tops on the same level as the stage. Upstairs is theater style seating that was decently comfortable and had a counter spot to put your drink. There weren't any bad views, and the sound system was better than I expected. I think there are two bars, one on each floor, but the upstairs one was closed for the small event I attended. They serve drinks and small bites, not full meals. Parking is challenging nearby.

The doors opened up and hour before and we were able to get a seat in the balcony on the first row. The venue was small so every seat was great. Up front is perfect since there is a stage. They show some great things and their location truly demands you continue the friend talk about the film at a bar or over some fries next door. A lot of shows have raffles. I have won several things like a gorgeous local artist print of John Waters and a still from Cat People. This is a super safe space for LGBTQ+ and all us local weirdos too. As long as you are not a hateful Nazi, you are welcome and I always have great encounters with so many lovely people. I have attended a lot of concerts, shows, burlesque, drag... all sorts of fun here. Their website is great to check out what is coming up but they are down to show you a good time. Just east of the river, in the middle of a residential part of Portland lies this little theater. Something I was not expecting to see when I was invited to watch a friend's movie that he filmed. Let me share some information on what to expect before coming here: * Parking * Once you spot the place and drive past it, you won't find a garage anywhere. Street parking only. So be cognizant of street parking signs as well. * The Theater * A classic type of theater reminiscent of days passed with a marquee above the entrance. Upon entering, there isn't much of a lobby, but a concession stand selling everything from candy, popcorn, and drinks. They even sell beer and wine, and local canned ciders. I also heard, they're cool with you bringing in food from outside. Just not alcohol, which is understandable. Although the lobby is narrow, i still loved looking up at the movie poster decor that lined the walls. There's only one movie screen as far as I know of, so don't expect a huge building with 20 screens. I mean it is an old building with old wooden doors, brass doorknobs, heavy curtains, and tiny restrooms with exposed pipes. Inside there is a small stage in front of the main screen, available for performers and events. Yes, you can even rent out the venue as well to hold an event. As for seating, the chairs are pretty wide and fairly comfortable. There may have been only about 200 seats, so expect the closeness of audience interactions and the quiet whispers to be heard loud and clear. In short, this old school theater is definitely a historical icon of Portland, with its marquee board changed by hand and little box office up front selling tickets. Come here for homemade movies, B rated films, as well as weird random classics. Just check their website for what's showing. I enjoyed my friend's event and I wouldn't mind seeing another crazy movie here like The Toxic Avenger!
