Maybe we should've just CIRCA-led around the block to find another option. This is my second time at Circa and it was arguably worse. First, I want to say that our server and the staff were all very kind but the hostess was the worstess! We came in without a reservation and expected a wait- but she seemed completely offended that we would not have one. We ended up waiting ~35 min (as she had quoted) and when we got back she gave us so much attitude. I understand if people are having a bad day, but not the impression you want to set. The food was mediocre, we shared a handful of things- brussel sprouts, grain bowl, etc. The max and cheese somehow lacked flavor and texture. And nothing really stood out. Unfortunately it's one of the only white table cloth places around so it gets a lot of traction. Overall, I wouldn't recommend considering the price tag and uninspiring food. read more

Circa at Clarendon was almost our second home. We would like to thank every single member of the Circa Team for hosting us for over 8 years. We were greeted with a smile every time we entered the restaurant and they made every dining experience a memorable event. We dined there multiple times each month and the service, drinks, and meals were consistently great. Circa at Clarendon is a well-established restaurant that checks every box with a great management team, well-trained service staff, and an experienced team in the kitchen. The entire team at Circa is very professional, and many of the team members have been working at Circa for many years. We were lucky to meet them and enjoyed chatting with them every time we visited. Several months ago, we asked the management team if they would be able to prepare a special menu for us to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary. With no hesitation they coordinated with the Chef and put together a special Peruvian style dinner for us which included a special dessert. Been wanting to try circa since the patio always looks so inviting when the weather is nice. Finally went for brunch- unfortunately it was a little too cold to sit outside, but still had a good experience! The service was pretty quick. Got the salmon Benedict which had a really good sauce and was overall a really solid benedict. Spontaneously stopped by CIRCA with some people this past Thursday evening for a late dinner and some drinks. They have an extensive menu, but I didn't feel like spending over 20 for a quick bite, so that knocks out a good chunk of the menu. A couple people told me that the burgers were pretty good, so I chose one of those. CIRCA BURGER - 16 This comes with a standard burger with a massive amount of fries. The burger itself was OK. I liked the aged cheddar (very distinct flavor in every bite), but the beef patty was overcooked (asked for medium-rare) and the bun at the bottom was super oily and soggy. The flavors were fine, nothing special. The vegetable toppings helped make the burger less dry. The fries were super crispy, but not very seasoned. Overall, it was an average burger and average fries. Nothing to rave about, but nothing to complain about. CIRCA has a nice and casual environment for a quick bite and a variety of drinks to choose from. read more

Liked that the serving dishes were very consciously chosen to enhance the appearance of the individual dishes. Tried Circa for happy hour and was very happy with the food, service, and ambiance. We got 3 dishes (an app, flatbread, and entree) between 2 people which was more than enough food. The tuna poke was good but a little too salty. Think it would've been perfect with a little less of the soy sauce-based sauce. The flatbread was delicious and fresh. We also got the steak frites which I forgot to take a picture of but the steak was cooked a perfect medium rare with a fragrant pesto sauce. Food and drink selection is what you'd expect. There are many places like this in the region. I had the summer market salad, which was full of fresh ingredients that were seasoned and dressed well. The corn and pickled red onion were delicious. The space itself would benefit from some sound dampening material. Due to the higher ceilings and so many hard surfaces it is extremely loud. Some folks are partial to the GAR (https://www.greatamericanrestaurants.com) establishments such as Artie's, Silverado, etc; and they're fine, but in terms of a fresh interpretation on contemporary American cuisine, as well as quality operations, I prefer the Metropolitan Hospitality Group, and especially CIRCA. I've dined at several CIRCA locations, and the Clarendon location stands out because of their separate dining spaces. Dining indoors gives off cozy California cool bistro vibes, with a fun casual bar scene. But dining outdoors, is where this location really excels. There are small tables which line the windows and immediate exterior of the restaurant, but there is a nicer patio which overlooks always busy Clarendon Blvd. My friend and I stopped recently for brunch, and as an added bonus watched as bicyclists sped by during the Armed Forces Cycling Classic. It was definitely a unique ambiance as we enjoyed coffee and a leisurely brunch as the sounds of gears and wheels whizzing by filled the air. My fried chicken sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries is everything you want during brunch. The generous chicken breast patty was nicely breaded and perfectly deep fried to achieve the crunchy exterior without being greasy. Shredded lettuce, dill pickles, dill pickle aioli, and a brioche bun completed the sandwich construction. Sweet potato fries had that always desired sweet/salty flavor profile, which makes their appearance on menus increasingly common. Service is consistently top-notch at CIRCA locations, and the Clarendon location was no different. Cups of pipping hot coffee were always refilled in a timely manner, along with requested cream and sugar. And we never felt rushed, even as the patio remained busy with activity. Salmon was alright - they're menu and staff need to have a complete overhaul in my opinion, they'res multiple locations in the DMV and I'd recommend going into Circa with lower expectations so you can have a better end result. We made a last minute reservation for two on a Friday night through OpenTable and were immediately seated. We started with the Shotgun Shrimp which was flavorful and not too spicy. Our service was a little on the slower side but nothing horrendous. I ordered the French onion grilled cheese which was one of the specials and it was super tasty. I got this with a side Caesar which also was great and not too fishy. My father got the turkey burger with sweet potato fries which he enjoyed. I stole a couple of fries and they were definitely some of the better sweet potato fries I've had. Those nachos are some of the best appetizers I've had and I wish there was about 8 more orders of them. They have amazing wasabi sauce and a sweet finish to them. I came here today for a welcome to the company lunch. I heard great things about this place and it was just a block away so I couldn't turn it down. We ordered two appetizers: calamari and Brussels sprouts. The whole table minus one person ordered sesame crusted tuna salads; the one other person got a turkey burger. SERVICE All in all, the service was great and was on top of our table. Checking in if the food was okay and refilling our beverages. AMBIANCE I can only speak for outdoor seating, but it's super nice that during lunch time, the outdoor seating shaded from surrounding buildings. FOOD Brussels Sprouts have never been on my list of favorite foods, but this dish WOWED me. There was a hint of bleu cheese and applewood smoked bacon and topped with balsamic. I may attempt to make this at home. The calamari wasn't your typical calamari. It had olives and artichoke hearts which was a nice twist. I liked it, but if olives aren't your thing (they're quite the divisive topping!) I would pass on this order. The sesame crusted tuna salads were definitely what I was looking for: something healthy yet filling. It was on the saltier side, so if salt is an issue for you, I would ask for the dressing to be on the side and ask for less. If you're in Clarendon looking for an American spot to eat lunch with different twists in your typical dishes, I would recommend this spot!
