I ordered the lamb tortellini to share, calamari, and a charcuterie board that had mozzarella cheese and prosciutto. I don't even like olives, but the olives were tasty! I came for an anniversary, so the staff was so lovely and gave us a little sweet treat and a card! I ended it with the chantilly cake, which was also so tasty. Overall, I recommend it. The staff is amazing from start to finish, the interior of the restaurant is beautiful and everything we ate was great! I have a beef with fine dining! My beef with fine dining is that whenever I go to fine dine spot my expectations are as high as the price of food and I don't care about the ambiance. I don't care what sort of chair I am sitting on, I don't care about what wood was used to make the table. I also don't care about how expensive is the silverware. I JUST WANT THE FOOD TO BE AS GOOD AS THE PRICE! Does Sfoglina fulfills that promise? Yes! Grilled octopus is one of my favorite things to eat. You can tell a restaurant has a good chef if they don't overcook the octopus. This octopus was not overcooked. It was delicious and I enjoyed each and every bit of it. I ordered the Caesar salad as well which was drenched in dressing and also was really refreshing. I also ordered dessert which was okay at best. Overall, I really enjoyed the meal and the service was friendly and attentive. They also validate parking in the attached garage which is nice. April 2026: Sfoglina is a great Italian restaurant. They have a number of locations. I go to their Rosslyn location. They make their pasta by hand daily in their pasta room. Both their food and service has always been very good. Plus they have nice gluten free options. They have gluten free pasta so many of their pasta dishes can be made gluten free by using the gluten free pasta. Their simply grilled food is also gluten free. And they always have at least one gluten free dessert. I highly recommend this restaurant. Sfoglina is located on the lobby level of a tall building. Their bar area has seats in the atrium portion of the building, as well as seats inside the restaurant. I like the atrium portion because it is not as loud and noisy as the main restaurant. And if you are looking for an event space with a real WOW factor, check out Sfoglina's rooftop. The rooftop of this building has a view of the river and DC monuments. It's one of the best views I have ever seen. It's amazing. AND I like it that there is a portion that is inside as well as a portion that is outside. So even if it rains you can still have your event on the rooftop. And if it's a really hot and humid day, your guests can stay in the air conditioned interior. I attach a few photos so you can see for yourself. They will remodel the rooftop so it will look a bit different in a few months but you still get the idea. The rooftop is only available for private events. The restaurant is well worth the visit! read more

My friends and I went to Sfoglina for a Friendsgiving, Italian style. The decor and tiny details match the ambiance of authentic Italian cuisine. We all had wine or martinis, from an extensive list of options. We had the garlic bread, which was to die for (not pictured because we ate it so fast). Our waiter also brought out complimentary roasted artichokes which had great flavor. The Caesar salad portions were very big and the split them in two for us. The dressing on the salad was light yet creamy with a perfect amount or Parmesan on top. It does come with an egg on top which I haven't seen before. Everyone loved their main courses. We had a great location inside of the restaurant where all 10 of us could sit together. All of the drinks were great. I had an old-fashioned, others had various drinks and wine. They kindly halved the dishes we shared. I can't say if that's the culprit, but the portions were unimpressive - not only in size - also in flavor. The pasta was very mediocre with subtle spice. The salad had a semi soft yolk and large croutons which was a highlight. The caprese salad was underwhelming. The winner, and what I would recommend, is the garlic bread. It was crispy outside, soft inside, flavorful, and hot. We also had some martinis - gin and espresso - and a glass of wine. The drinks were very ok. The service here was kind, reasonably attentive, and delivery of plates was prompt. We came here on a Saturday night and it was busy but not packed. Our waiter was good and gave some great recommendations. Food was excellent, but we feel a that it was a little overpriced for the portion sizes. For example the burrata was $16 I think, with nothing to put it on, so they recommend getting the tomatoes ($12) and bread ($8) on the side so you're already at $36 for a small cheese appetizer. The burrata and bread were both delicious though! The short rib agnalotti was the best, so delicious and the sauce was incredible. We also got the ragu pappardelle which was delicious but not as good. The tiramisu was one of the best I've had because the coffee flavors were very strong. Usually it's much milder but we really enjoyed how coffee heavy it was. The cannoli cake was also delicious but not as good. This is the great spot for after work happy hour. Unfortunately, they only offer the happy hour food and drinks at the bar, but their bar is pretty big wraparound both inside the restaurant and outside so you shouldn't have to much trouble finding a seat. They have a couple of small portions sized items a happy menu, including meatballs, you can just get one meatball, which was a perfect appetizer. We also got their Barada as an appetizer, which was a nice way to start off the meal. We got the full portion pasta though because we wanted a full meal, instead of the happy hour half portion. I got the cacio pepe, which was really good and even though it wasn't a large portion, it was very filling and was with fun shaped pastas. We also got the seafood linguine, which was good and have plenty of clams. I was also celebrating my birthday. They brought out a chocolate cake which was delicious and we ordered the apricot dessert which I would 100% order again, it was tart and delicious. Overall the evening was pleasant. Our reservation was honored in a very timely manner. The service was excellent and the ambiance lended itself well to the cuisine. The food was average. Im italian so im more critical than most. My only real complaint is they dont and wont think outside the box. For example..... my favorite pre-dinner cocktail is a Bloody Mary which they couldnt make because they didnt have tomato juice. Seriously? Go in the back and scoop some sauce out of the pot. They couldnt make my second favorite drink because they didnt have Root Beer or Dr Pepper. That one I let slide because you cant please everyone. Then they asked if we wanted bread. Of course we do.... Its an italian reataurant! Well that surprisingly came to the table several times at a modest $$. There were a few other minor details that I wasn't very pleased about but i don't want to be too critical here. I wont say I had a bad experience but I'm going to stick with my tried and trues. I will say I did enjoy how this drink at the Van Ness location which wasn't stirred and instead had a milky foam at the top. Nonetheless, it was delicious. For my entree, I went with the Fettuccini Alfredo with mushrooms. It was a great blend of cheeses and hearty mushrooms in each bite which I enjoyed. However, the sauce was more buttery than creamy which made the dish a bit oily. I loved the garlicky flavors from the sauce and ended up almost finishing my entire plate of pasta - very rare for me in one sitting! The service was wonderful! Our server ensured we were satisfied with each menu item and made us feel right at home. Great date night place. Might even be OK with the kids earlier on, but don't bring them later! Excellent wine list and cocktails were delicious. They have specials on Monday and Tuesdays. The calamari was not fried, but roasted in the tomato sauce, very delicious and different. The Buffalo mozzarella was delicious and light. We tried and nobody was dissatisfied. I ordered the spicy squid ink with shrimp. I found the dish somewhat bland with the pasta was delicious and so I did not raise any issues. Shrimp was overcooked but again possible. We didn't have a reservation, so we did a walk in visit on a Wednesday night. It was pretty filled up so we sat on the high tables. The ambiance was great, and the cocktails were pretty good too. As for the food, the gnocchi was alright. I really liked the sauce, but I felt that the pasta texture was a bit too soft for my liking. The Burrata was good, but also it's extremely hard to go wrong on a Burrata dish. The garlic bread was decent. The braised beef agnolotti, however, was TOO salty. I am usually good with salty food, but the beef filling in this pasta was probably THE saltiest thing I've ever had in my life. I ordered a standard glass of rose, and shared a bunch of appetizers with my friends (including sautéed mushrooms, garlic bread, winter burratta caprese and an arugula salad. Hands down the mushrooms were my absolute favorite. For pastas we had the braised beef short ribs anagnolotti, bucatini Ala carbonara, radiatore arrabiata and garganelli lamb ragu. Would recommend the radiatore areaviata and the bucatini if you like long pasta noodles. For dessert we had complimentary gelato, the pistachio cake, Piemontese and gianduja, pana cotta. They were all good but my favorite was the piemontese for the sole purpose of the hazelnut. Service was quick, and they were very direct with what they had and didn't have In stock. Ahhhhh... wanted to give a solid positive review, but unfortunately it's gonna have to take a different approach. I'll start with the good: The service was friendly and decently quick and the decor was also very pretty and it has a relatively good location. However, I was a bit grossed out by the couches that served as seats because when you're dealing with fabric, it's it's hard to clean and there's a lot of traffic so the fabric just takes in a lot of odors and dirt and germs naturally so I'm a little apprehensive about the cleanliness of some of the seating that was available. The next thing I would like to harp on... is really what people go for to a restaurant and that is the quality of the food. I had pretty high hopes since you can see them handmaking the pasta and usually that indicates that there will be a certain level of freshness involved. That is not the case. All of the pasta sat very heavy afterwards, was very oily and none of the flavors really popped out or spoke to me or anyone at my table. It is really underwhelming for the price that you pay. If the pasta was under $10 maybe it would be a fair shot, but unfortunately between the price that you are paying and the quality of the ingredients and the freshness, gets a very low rating. Many of us felt very lousy and slow, and it felt like a rock in our stomachs for the rest of the day. So unfortunately, high hopes turned into disappointment.
