UPDATE: THIS CONTRACTOR'S LICENSE IS NOW SUSPENDED DUE TO REFUSAL TO PAY A COURT ORDERED JUDGEMENT. My initial review stated that I was forced to file a lawsuit against Brian Staller / Circuit Genius (legally known as: Performance Telecomm) for breach of contract. The matter is now permanently settled by the court. After the vendor filed an appeal, the Los Angeles Superior Court ruled in my favor and found Circuit Genius / Performance Telecomm liable for breach of contract. Owner Brian Staller calls this a "frivolous lawsuit" in his response to my initial review, but the facts prove otherwise. In his response to my first post, Brian called the lawsuit "bananas-level false" and "frivolous." The fact that I won a judgment against this company not once, but twice--once at trial and again on appeal--means that two judges ruled in my favor, finding Circuit Genius / Performance Telecomm in breach of contract. The court's decision validated the vendor's refusal to honor two key contractual agreements: 1. The Refund Scam: The vendor refused to process an agreed-upon refund for a Yamaha receiver (which the contract stated had "No restock fee if not wanted"). Instead, he attempted to coerce me into a "settlement" that required me to sign a document agreeing to no online reviews, legal proceedings, chargeback attempts or warranty support for work done. 2. Deceptive Practices: After agreeing in writing to return to my home and install a network rack at "no extra charge," he later refused to do so unless I paid a new 2-hour service minimum. He then withheld equipment that I had already paid for and refused to refund the cost of that equipment. **This Contractor is now a Regulatory Liability** More than six months after the final judgment, Brian Staller / Circuit Genius / Performance Telecomm has refused to pay the court-ordered debt. His failure to comply with the judgment has resulted in severe disciplinary action: 1. License Suspension: The Contractors State License Board (CSLB), has suspended his license for failure to comply with an outstanding civil judgment. (See CSLB Record for Performance Telecomm; License 117708). 2. Business Lien: I have filed a lien against this business to attempt to enforce the judgement owed (See State of California Notice of Judgement Lien; File No: U250127585224). This business employs deceptive practices and does not honor contractual agreements. Brian is desperate to get 5-star reviews and refuses to accept anything less even if it means bullying and using intimidation tactics with his customers. A business that ignores its legal obligations, has a lien against it, and has its state license suspended should be a major red flag to anyone reading this. I paid that initial site inspection price because we are now a household of three working-from-home professionals with need for constant and reliable internet and wifi for work and leisure and our Google Home mesh system was failing us in that regard and we needed a quick solution. Brian from Circuit Genius came as scheduled and we spent a good couple hours going over our current set up, discussing our broadband, devices, setup needs, and the value of wiring the whole house with CAT6 outlets. Brian explained that the costliest part of the plan we devised for the house together would be the hours of labor required to wire all the areas of the house and detached garage. He showed me an alternative quote that showed what it would cost to install our new system if the wiring already exists, and it was so so sooo much lower! Brian also described his tools of the trade and tips for running wire, crimping ends, connecting wall outlets, and accessing the crawlspace to connect rooms and where to drill to bring lines into the house, and testing lines, etc. SO informative! That visit and conversation was just the catalyst I needed to take on the task myself! For about $600 worth of wiring, crimping and testing tools and a whole lot of CAT6 wiring, bobs and ends, and a solid day of elbow grease and sweat, I ended up saving us close to a solid $5,000 in labor. Circuit Genius will soon be coming back to finish what I started by upgrading us to a cloud managed power-over-Ethernet(PoE) wifi mesh system, and I can hardly wait! I'm the meantime, however, thanks to Brian's first visit and our informative conversations, I have already vastly improved our current wifi mesh system and can make it work for the time being. I moved into a new house here in Beverly Grove about 6 months ago, and I noticed that the wifi was pretty slow upon moving in but I "dealt" with it for the first 6 months. We have a 4K square foot house and about 4 people here full time with A LOT of devices all pulling at the same network, and come to find out my speeds were only about 50 MBPS which is terrible. After researching and calling several home theater installation companies in the L.A. area, I decided to go with Circuit Genius because the owner, Brian, was straight forward with me and communicated well. I own my own 5.1 surround sound system, projector and wall mounts, but I needed a trustworthy company to run audio wire through my crawl space and up the walls for the Left and Right surround speakers. It's not always possible to do that sort of thing without opening up the drywall, but they were able to do it with a small hole near the baseboards that our painters can easily patch. Worth mentioning: I also had the guys install 2 Cat6 ethernet cables to my office bedroom. After about a week I realized that one of the cables was not receiving full speeds. I tested the cable with a network cable tester, and confirmed that something was wrong. At no charge, they sent out one of their technicians the next week and fixed the issue -- a faulty modular plug. Now everything is working great and they offered to reimburse me for the cost of the network cable tester. Overall, I think Brian and his crew have passion for the work they do. You can tell they want to do the job well. I'd say their prices are a little bit higher than the competition, but as long as you tell them exactly what you want done, they will do it right. read more

They did a great job setting up a home theatre and very serious home sound system with about 10 different Sonos zones. My favorite thing about them is that they can do very high end work, but they use systems and components that i can understand and control without having to phone them up whenever i want to modify the system or whenever something breaks. We had Brian come out to install new internet systems, install a new video doorbell, and also to help us get our new in-ceiling, Sonos speakers connected and working with our tvs. Brian was professional and seemed extremely knowledgable about options. We initially had an issue with the tv / sonos after the work was completed. At first, neither Brian or us, could figure out what was causing these issues, which naturally led to some frustrations on our end. But, it ended up being caused by the age of our tv and also its compatibility with the sonos speakers, not because of any work Brian had done. Despite that, throughout it all, Brian was very patient and diligent in looking into the problem, helping us understand the cause of the issues, and also troubleshooting the solutions. He came back out shortly after and tried to implement a work around that ended up fixing everything! It's now been over a year since everything was installed and everything has been perfect since then. No issues whatsoever. He's more interested in (over) billing and over promising (time, price, service). I had two Sony TVs installed and the mother boards gave out. Not blaming that on Brian, but the buck does have to stop somewhere, especially when I asked for him to come back to check out my system that he initially installed. (He was going to charge me AGAIN, even after my original estimate was more than doubled!) He wasn't very helpful when I had to get the second TV replaced, but he did help with the first mother board replacement. I moved to Los Angeles about 7 months ago into a pre-wired home that had nothing set up. Brian and his team came to perform an assessment, listened carefully to what I wanted to achieve and walked me through everything that his team could do for me. He purchased all of the equipment on my behalf and even brought his own electrician to install conduit wiring outside of my house in order to place the cameras exactly where I requested them. Brian came back a second time in order to make sure that I fully understood how to properly use all of my new devices.
