On my recent visit to SoCal to check in on the aging parental units, my dad mentioned he was craving Mexican food. Being a SoCal native now living on the East Coast, who am I to say no to Mexican food?! Dad had been to Cisco's before, but this was my first visit. TL;DR: Good stuff! Longer version... Parking was easy, and we walked right in with no wait. Granted, it was closer to 1:30 than noon, so we had definitely missed the main lunch rush. We sat down and chips and salsa arrived pretty quickly. My dad asked our server if the salsa was mild or spicy. "Salsa suave, mi amigo." So Pops confidently went in for a bite... and was immediately taken aback. Turns out it had a pretty decent kick to it. I tried it, laughed a little, and confirmed that yes, it was definitely on the spicy side. Personally, I liked it. Dad? Not so much. Our server apologized and quickly brought over some mild salsa for him. Crisis averted. For the main event, Dad went with his standard chile relleno. It looked good, he seemed happy, and there were zero leftovers. I'll call that a win. I went with a combo plate, choosing a carnitas tamale and chicken enchilada. Both were solid, and the rice and beans were good too. Adding a little of that supposedly "suave" spicy salsa to everything worked out perfectly for me. Overall, good food, great service, and a nice lunch with Dad. I'd definitely come back next time I'm in Thousand Oaks... although Pops may be asking a few more questions about the salsa before diving in. read more

The décor is colorful and full of personality, and the strolling mariachis add great atmosphere--as long as they stay in the background and not at my table. There's indoor and outdoor seating, and the whole environment really celebrates the beauty of Mexican culture. The menu is huge: Cantina Menu, kid's menu, lunch and dinner menus, Taco Tuesday, plus tons of appetizers, drinks, and à la carte items. They keep the chips and salsa coming, and two of my favorite dishes are the Cabo Taco Sampler and the Enchiladas Del Mar. Service is usually pretty good, though the restaurant can get crowded. The staff hustles, and they work hard to keep things moving. My only real issue is consistency--the food can be tasty, but it's sometimes hit or miss. It's not a bargain restaurant, but it's upbeat, fun, and the staff is great. A solid 3 out of 5. read more

I love it when we stumble onto a great new restaurant without much effort - and that would be Cisco's! We were greeted by the friendly host, seated quickly and had our food ordered quickly. I had the shrimp taco plate - the tacos were stuffed with plump shrimp and flavorful. The rice was perfectly cooked. We will definetly be back for the Sunday brunch. read more

I have been going here for more then 20 years and something is definitely off there. Ate there last night and we had a horrible meal. My taquitos were not even recognizable by the manager or server. Even the table side guacamole was made by someone that seems to not be trained as it was terrible too. The chips that were offered were out of a bag - confirmed by our server. If they are no longer caring about the quality of their food - I wish I would have known before spending almost $100. Be careful if you have food allergies - I do and know what to order there - but last night I was served taquitos that were made with wheat instead of corn - as usual so sick today. read more

Food is consistently good. Our server was awesome. The Guac was a bit bland but it's because they couldn't use jalapeño peppers.

Regrettably the food was not very good this time around. We had our server remake the Fresh Guacamole 3 times, not sure if the avocados were not ripe enough or the person making it was new. The rest of the food did not have the usual freshness to it, it is hard to pinpoint what was different from previous visits. Nevertheless, I will say that after our server found out that we were there celebrating a birthday he made sure we ended our dinner with a celebratory birthday song. DUDE came here for Sunday brunch. $30. All you can eat and this bottomless mimosa. If that wasn't good enough, then look at the staff. They are so amazing so sweet so nice and accommodating. The ambiance is great with a fun Mexican fiesta vibe and a full bar. Outdoor dining is also a nice option. Even though it's located in a strip mall, the space is large enough that it doesn't feel like it. Service was on point. I ordered a cocktail that was made incorrectly, but the waiter quickly fixed it without any hassle. As for the food, it was average. Nothing stood out as spectacular, but everything was good. We had the fajitas, some tacos, and enchiladas. The fajitas were heavy on grilled veggies and light on protein, which was a little disappointing. That said, I'd definitely come back with a group for happy hour and appetizers. The lively, party vibe makes it a great spot to hang out and enjoy drinks with friends. read more

Sunday's are my daughter and my get together day fur breakfast to catch up on events it's of the week. This Sunday we chose Cisco's! For Brunch, plenty of food, included mimosa's. I of course had to try a spoonful of everything, chips, Refried Beans, Rice. Chili Verde, Cheese Enchilada and fresh shrimp. For dessert I helped myself to a cup of fresh fruit. Dine inside or insulated patio. They had a fan blowing that kept it nice and cool. Food is delicious, Hostess & Server friendly. Family oriented, dress casual, relaxing. Cisco's is 100% our go-to Mexican restaurant. We used to go to Julio's in Westlake (I believe it was the same owner) and also Cisco's when it was located on Westlake Blvd. Anyway, locals will know that those two restaurants closed years ago and we now have Cisco's on Avenida de Los Arboles. We absolutely love that Cisco's does fresh, made-to-order table side guacamole - a must for our family! I'm not aware of any other restaurant doing this. One of our absolute fave dishes is the Pescado Tomatillo. Super fresh, excellent fish dish. Also the Carne Tampiqueno. They always cook the steak exactly as I want it, and the cheese enchilada is delish. They will do substitutions, salsa/sauce on the side, whatever you want. Never a problem. I know this may seem silly but we always prefer to sit in a booth rather than a table. Just more comfy for us. And Cisco's has plenty. A lot of the other Mexican restaurants just have tables or bar stools. We've always had great, friendly service and the wait staff remember us. We highly recommend! read more

Always liked this place and the food is generally good. The Sunday brunch is the best deal in town. My only gripe is the behavior from the drunks they regularly over serve in the bar. It's always a great time with my kids to hear someone screaming F words I can hear way into the dining room. You'd think they wouldn't want that behavior but it's been like this forever. Very good Mexican restaurant in Thousand Oaks. Staff were very nice and good quality food. They have a few vegetarian options here as well and can make some items vegetarian if needed. Enjoyed the Sunday Brunch at Cisco's. Very authentic Mexican food. They have a large variety of different Mexican food dishes to choose from including carnitas, enchiladas and Chile verde. The menudo and the chile rellenos were very good. Recommend the huevos rancheros. The service was very friendly and made good conversation with the staff. Food is delicious and service is a hit and miss. Last night had an enjoyable evening evening and then when the check came, I saw a "SNEAKY CHARGE" where they are charging now is a 20% gratuity before your subtotal. Then there is of course the blank spot for the tip and then your total. I generally give a 20 or 25% tip and I am wondering how long they have been doing this "SNEAKY ADD ON". My husband and I dined here tonight. We saw sooooooo many rats on the patio. We alerted an employee and he joked that the rats were part of the 'wild life'. This is seriously disgusting. I told another employee and he wasn't bothered by it at all. The employees are totally unbothered by the prevalence of rats! I've been coming here for years and I'm done. Last Friday a girlfriend and I had dinner at Cisco's and I left my wallet there. I called the next day and was told they didn't have it. I went to the restaurant to look around the area we ate and the parking lot. They still denied having my wallet. Since the restaurant didn't have it I assumed it was stolen and cancelled my checks and credit cards. late that afternoon I got a call that they had found my wallet . An employee had put it in an unsecured area not in the lost and found safe area so their protocol was not followed and it resulted in causing me great stress and cancellation of all my financial products. When I called the night manager to inform him that there was zero cash in my wallet and my debit card was in a strange part of the wallet he was unconcerned and was very rude to me. He basically said, " so what do you want me to do about it, it's your word against hers". I am 73 years old and I have never been treated with such a lack of respect by Cisco's night manager. I will never step foot in that place again. read more

We ordered takeout here a few weeks ago, and the order could not have been more wrong. Missing the ceviche platter completely. Fish and shrimp tacos instead of carne asada. Quesadilla was not plain, and that was disappointing for my daughter. It was definitely a bummer to get all the way home, not have dinner, and have to go there and back to get the missing items. Gotta give credit to the hostess, though, who was very sweet and impossible to be upset with. It's hard to get my hubby to go here because most of the items don't feel like authentic Mexican fare. Lots of fried stuff and melted cheese. When I dined here, it was a busy Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving, it was packed. It did take quite a bit for dinner to hit the table, but the wait staff were very attentive which was rather impressive. I have the trio of fish tacos and my favorite would have to be between the grilled fish or beer battered taco. The sauce was rather strong and the tortilla for the shrimp taco was falling apart on me, but you can't go wrong with getting the fried ice cream for dessert. Overall, I would come back here the next time I'm in town. read more
